You only need to update the ATI drivers, which is located in this thread.

The driver contains both ATI and Intel drivers, hence the reason why the ATI generic drivers won't work without modification.

You are more than welcome to test what happens if you used an updated intel driver and use the ati drivers here. Do tell the results, since I'm more of a stability type guy than a bleeding edge enthusiast.

Not entirely true for factory settings either, which is surprisingly outdated, unstable, and the HP Update is unreliable.

I was one of the lucky individuals who did not backup the swsetup folder prior to a fresh install, which contains the HP drivers and special software (i.e digital persona fingerprint reader software). So I just googled "digital persona software HP" and found it on hp website for download from another HP pavilion laptop. Follow the link if you were in my position and need this software and don't want to re-do everything :

Finally, an updated ATI graphics driver package with switchable graphics support is now available directly from HP! The new package is very similar to Catalyst 10.6 in AMD/ATI terms. The main fix in this update is with switchable graphics not working correctly after standby or hibernate.

In addition, a new TouchPad/ClickPad driver has been released. Prior uninstall of all previous driver versions is recommended for both.

    08/13/2010
    • Updated ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 / 5650 / 5850 driver to version 8.741.1.1000.
    • Updated Synaptics TouchPad driver to version 15.0.24.0.

Documented technical release notes for the Synaptics TouchPad driver are located within the driver package.

I really need to add something about DigitalPersona on the first post. I'll get to it shortly. :)

i need a definitive clarification for the Turbo Boost driver that's shown in the first post. you say not to install this if the machine doesn't have switchable graphics. isn't the turbo boost driver just for the turbo boost technology aspect of the cpu ?

i have it installed on my machine and haven't experienced any issues, laptop is mostly quiet and fan spool up appears normal. as far as i know, the 1010NR doesn't do switchable graphics.

one other thing i don't understand: i thought turbo boost technology didn't need software drivers to operate.

so, they admit it is not necessary, but recommend to install it. i will keep it on board as there may be some software i use that would need it.

my logic is constantly focusing on minimizing the workload of my OS, including installed drivers. keeps the size of the OS down, runs faster & more efficient. this driver may adversely affect power usage, that's why i inquired.

Turboboost is only necessary if you have older software that wasn't designed to utilize or support multiple cores. Most likely most people don't need or care.

By the way, the digital persona is an older version than the one came with in our generation swsetup.

My configuration focus on efficiency with minimum effort and stability. In other words, "If it ain't broken, don't fix it." :)

HP Digital persona renamed as HP SimplePass.
Well the one you posted is version 4. The one I have is version 5.

I just finished updating ATI driver. Boy, it took me to realize in 2 mins that my primary display output was hdmi after uninstalling. Even when there's nothing connecting to the hdmi port. Boy the black screen was freaky.

Still have the same faults which I beginning think its more of a hardware limitation.

Updated to latest ATI woot! Yep i got the blackscreen as well it didnt come back as they said like it didn't flickr so i hit the sleep button and woke it up and screen was back on. and colors were off and they recommended restarting and bam back on track.

Also just took a look at your Synaptics touchpad latest driver, i think its for the wrong version. It doesn't note any "fixes" as was shown in previous release notes, and mentions specifically the mini netbook and limits OS to the 32 bit Windows Home Premium. I don't think its meant to be installed on this version. If anyone has it let us know any new features or noticeable things..

Also i think the latest Turbo boost driver you have here is not official.., intel's release notes i found mention it as "beta driver" but download links from intel found on google are now 404 pages, and very odd Samsung is only one providing download. LOL i'll wait for a intel or hp link.

The drivers are based on hardware compatibility. So, updates for a particular hardware are not always from a single place or some OEM vendor.
I been updating from random vendors for years now, and haven't got a problem.
For example, my old Dell Inspiron 1525 has updated drivers from Toshiba, various Dell laptop lines and generations, all due to similar hardware in their products.

So I tried to update my ati switchable video drivers but it seems like they didn't install anything.. I guess because I have a hacked 10.7 installed. I was hoping this new driver would have updated intel drivers but I don't see a change in version. anyone else notice a version change?

I just updated my synaptics touchpad driver from
15.0.17.4 TO 15.0.20.0 haven't noticed any different yet but I haven't used it much. apparently the newer driver version has a older driver date which is odd.. like this

    15.0.17.4 Windows 7/Vista x86/x64 and WinXP x86/64 DriverVer=05/27/2010, 15.0.17.4

    15.0.20.0 Windows 7/Vista x86/x64 and WinXP x86/64 DriverVer=05/06/2010, 15.0.20.0

I personally inspected the new Synaptics TouchPad driver, version 15.0.24.0. I extracted the package and it contained x64 support when I examined it. In addition, the INF file that lists all supported device IDs included the notebooks that are currently supported in the HP consumer line.

The new 15.0.24.0 driver is dated 06/03/2010. Maybe you should give these a go. ;)

Some updates to the first post, which I will need to explain below. Thanks Z3tor for your help. :)

    08/18/2010
    • Updated Broadcom Wireless LAN driver to version 5.100.249.2.
    • Updated IDT High Definition Audio Codec version 6.10.6289.0 driver links.
    • Updated Intel Turbo Boost Technology driver version 1.2.0.1002 driver links and installation information.

The Broadcom Wireless LAN driver originates from Acer, and contains mostly universal support for the Broadcom WLAN adapters currently available.

The IDT HD Audio driver's links were updated to reflect the most current package revision that HP has released thus far.

The Intel Turbo Boost Technology driver links have been updated to use the ones that HP now provides. Note that I had changed the installation information to be more accurate; I had taken a look at the provided technical release notes and realized that the supported configurations were much more than what I had mentioned. I was previously incorrect about the assumption that this could only be installed on notebooks with switchable graphics.

    • Added previous HP Wireless Assistant versions 4.0.4.2 and 4.0.6.0.

I'm just adding these previous releases of Wireless Assistant for reference, and to get rid of version 3.5 which may incompatible. :)

    questions:
unsure why i have 2 sets of 2 drivers installed here. looks like the same driver but different version (windows driver .... bluetooth, broadcom 802.11 ...). can i remove the older versions safely ?

what are the cisco drivers for ?

The older versions can be removed safely. However, if the devices no longer work after removal, simply uninstall all the versions and then re-install just the newest version of the driver package(s).

The Cisco drivers you see are associated with the Cisco Services Modules pertaining to wireless authentication and security. More information on this is found at Cisco LEAP [Cisco Services Modules] - Cisco Systems

when i play blu-rays with arcsoft total media theater 3, i start getting choppy playback after a while, to the point its unbearable. after closing the program, the whole system is sluggish, even after a restart. i found that uninstalling and reinstalling the ati drivers fixes this. possibly the audio drivers as well. don't know what the problem is, but is there something going on with video configuration in the driver maybe ? i notice that arcsoft changes the windows theme (reverts to non-transparent light blue).

Hmm, the cisco stuff shouldn't apply unless you installed their vpn clients.

some reason, your arcsoft is disabling aero. Which ATI drivers you used, from ATI or from here? Anyways, did you install ATI Avivo HD??

Avivo HD is the one that allows video decoding on the GPU, reduces strain on the cpu.

    Ati drivers sometimes mess up.

not using any vpn clients im aware of, unless some other software i have required those installed. other than these cisco drivers, every other bit of installed software is something i put there, so im clean enough.

i grabbed the latest ATI driver from HP's site (8/13).
can i still install Avivo separately ?

removed the old drivers and havent had any hickups so far.
def. reinstalling the ati drivers fixed the lagging. i also installed the avivo package from ati's site. going to go with a different blu-ray suite, i am looking to avoid installing mediasmart so im going with powerdvd 10 ultra.

    Nice, you got that resolved.

As the cisco stuff, kinda unusual to have it installed, since they only apply to their VPN and has pretty much little use under WPAx-E, which most likely default to use M$ solution.

i actually discovered that plugging the power cable back in makes playback smooth again. so it doesn't have anything to do with reinstalling video drivers. it is also happening with DVDs and not just blu-rays. i must have missed some software or somethings not right with my installation, because if this is a known issue, i haven't seen many report it or say something about it ...

this is happening regardless of power plan in windows 7.

however it spits back a permissions error. if you can figure this to work, i would use it too.

The reason why cause there is no such option

powercfg -devicedisablewake "ACPI Lid" is the same as on device properties -> ACPI Lid -> Uncheck "Allow device to turn off to save power"

    Hi,

I have been searching for an answer to my problem for about 2 hours, plus another hour on the phone with HP support, with no luck - I apologize if the answer has been discussed - I certainly can't find it if so. I purchased an HP Pavilion dv7t Quad Edition with the integrated HDTV Tuner in December of 09. It arrived in January of 10. It shipped with Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit. Through my school, I purchased an upgrade to Windows 7 professional 64 bit. The TV Tuner is not detected by Windows Media Center or HP Media Smart. The tuner shows up in my device manager as working properly and claims to have the most current driver. According to HP tech support, the tuner has no driver compatible with Windows 7 professional. I've searched the Aver Media site with no luck. Does anyone know how to get the tuner working with this OS?

    Thanks for your time! Jobywan

if it works in home premium, i would think that it'd work in pro ...
but maybe pro requires special driver signing which i am not sure of. check on ms's web site for tech specs on pro.

honestly, i never saw a need to go pro or ultimate, because i can get home premium to do whatever i need it to (except for changing the native language).

    ......

    again...
For "pro requires special driver signing"....only 64bit requires special driver signing. I forgot what its called..

Anyways, it should work regardless of which edition of w7 64 bit(I doubt the driver and hardware are designed for corporate use), maybe try using the drivers from hp first before trying the actual latest.

I've tried the drivers that shipped with the computer, the drivers on the HP site, another set of drivers from HP that the HP tech sent me, the drivers which are provided here via the forum and also had device manager look for the latest drivers for sake of completeness. The HP tech said that the tuner is incompatible with professional. He didn't mention 64 bit as being an issue - just specifically windows 7 pro. He said if I downgraded to home premium, it would work. He said I could try with their paid level 2 support, but he doubted they could help. I wrote Aver as well, but haven't heard back yet - hopefully will after the holiday.

theres this free registry tool called CCleaner. i've used it before and it gets rid of erroneous registry keys/entries. after you uninstall all your unwanted software/drivers, run ccleaner and clean up your registry. restart, try the drivers one more time.

honestly, unless you have a need for a feature Pro has that home premium doesn't, stick with home premium x64, because it isn't any inferior in core functionality/performance.

if you want to do a clean install and use the product key that came with your computer, follow the HP laptop-out-of-the box guide

I'm definately a CCleaner fan - been using it for years - very useful program. I don't really have a problem with erroneous registry keys at this point - have tried/cleaned them all multiple times and had no luck, which fits with what the tech said - no driver for windows pro. What I don't get is why. Why home premium 64 but not pro. I am positive I saw in the forum a spec sheet for a dv7 that someone purchased which had both Windows 7 pro listed and an internal tuner. Perhaps it's a later iteration with a different tuner.

I'm not really interested in doing a clean install just to get the tuner to work. I have a ton of software and files and tweaks that would be a time sink to re-create. I just wondered if anyone had a similar problem and found a solution or knew of a driver floating around for pro. Unfortunately the standard drivers only go back to Vista or I could try to install it in XP mode.

You can try install vista drivers, those could work on w7.

I am curious, can you post the exact model number?? dv7x-4xxxXX for example

Oh, I don't trust the hp tech support at all after my last fiasco.

    It's a:

HP Pavilion dv7t Quad Edition customizable Notebook PC (dv7t-3000)
    • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (shipped with - I used a legit upgrade disc purchased through my school to go to Professional)
    • Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
    HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner

    Device Manager says:

    HP ATSC/Analog TV Tuner
    AverMedia Technologies
    PCI bus 4
    Driver version is 1.3.64.76

    Hardware Ids:
    PCI\VEN_1131&DEV_7160&SUBSYS_10551461&REV_03
    PCI\VEN_1131&DEV_7160&SUBSYS_10551461
    PCI\VEN_1131&DEV_7160&CC_048000
    PCI\VEN_1131&DEV_7160&CC_0480

    Service:
    AVerBDA6x_x64

I can't seem to get back to the page the HP tech sent me to, though I had bookmarked it. I was not able to find a driver through the front end of HP.com - only a USB tuner driver. I also tried the driver at the beginning of this thread.
