more so on IDT since they decide not to release generic driver.

do i have to install this manually or when I update the drivers it updates on its own?

Hey MacHater,
First off I would like to thank you even before I try the fix as the audio is driving me insane. I have been out of town for a few weeks and have not been able to keep up with the forums. This may have been asked before but I looked and didn't see it. If you have the time and it is not too much trouble could you please answer a few questions? Thanks either way.
1. Do you know if this file works on the 17" Envy?
2. Can this "exe" file/fix be rolled back anyway?
2.a. What does this "exe" file actually do/change? How many/what registry entries or other things such as disables ... ET?
If you know any or all I appreciate the response. I just hate to make unknown changes and changes that can't be undone.
Thanks again !!! -
Your first solution did nothing for me, and I don't feel like deleting beats audio completely. I'd just like to ask how I undo the registry workaround you provided, to avoid any problems with updates in the future. -
Hey MacHater or Anyone who knows,
1. Can this "exe" file/fix be rolled back/undone? I have no problems editing a registry or making any changes to anything.
2. Does anyone know what this "exe" file actually changes? How many/what registry entries or other things such as things it disables ... ET? As said in question 1, I'd prefer to edit the reg so I can re-edit if things go wrong or roll it back if there is a IDT/Sigmatel update in the future. The .exe is great for people who can't edit a registry though.
THANKS FOR THE HELP-- ANYONE???

I forget what the specific changes are, but I think you can open it in a a word editor and see the specific values it is changing and compare them to what they are now.
-
How to undo the fix:
Copy this into Notepad and save as UndoFix.reg:
Code:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREIDTApoLFXLineOutpluginsSRS] "idEffect"=dword:00000054 "idEffectType"=dword:00000032 "load"=dword:00000001 "order"=dword:000001f4 "ApoClsId"="{176F4E15-8F7C-4833-ADED-81FAE8CCD186}"
Reboot. -

just made this account to say thank you, so, thank you! This has been driving me mad since i got my computer, and hp support seems to have no idea how to handle this at all.
-
Thank You! Ran the file and fix worked! Man it was annoying. I have to say though, I'm a little disappointed with the general sound quality of the Beats Audio on the Dv6. Even playing with the Equalizer I just can't get it to sound as good as I would hope. Maybe there is some magic setup I'm missing that someone can recommend, but I doubt it...

I thought I would give my take on this whole situation. I got my HP (model# A5F76AV) just recently and from day one I noticed this volume problem. I found this thread in search of a fix. I followed MacHater's instructions for the new fix and I did notice that it worked. My idiot self decided to also update the audio driver that was listed on HP's website (Version: 6.10.6381.0). After this I undid the fix and tried to do it again, except this time I ran into problems. I noticed that I was able to disable the "Communication Headphones" device without it affecting Beats at all, but when I tried to do the registry fix (newer method) it disabled the Beats special effects (bass, treble, center, space). What it doesn't disable is the graphic equalizer. The special effects just show up grayed out. The volume sounds like it doesn't automatically adjust, and the sound quality is good (unlike when you toggle Beats and it gets tinny). Has anyone else done the same thing and got similar results? Can anyone offer me any tips?
Thank you! -
Yeah, Machater, two official "poo-poo's'" and a raspberry for using Sendspace. -
Hey, so THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR FIXING THIS. It was driving me INSANE. I had tried other fixes, but the others were either temporary or would only allow me to use one audio line, and I was going crazy. So this one does work, and I like it. HOWEVER, once I applied the registry changes, I rebooted and found that I couldn't use my fingerprint reader. If it helps, I'm on the Dv6t-7014nr (Quad Edition). I tried reinstalling the Validity fingerprint sensor driver, but no luck. Also, I looked in the device manager, and the fingerprint sensor was not showing up in there. In the hardware tab of control panel, when I click on "Biometric Devices" it says that no devices were found. I'm not sure how this registry fix affected that, but I'd like to get it working again. Any ideas? But again, thanks for the sound fix.
Edit: Ahhhhh, updating the BIOS fixed it. Everything is good now -

Did this for my HP Dvtqe-7000 and it's still having problems. It's actually quite jarring to hear the levels of music constantly going up and down and i'm not pleased at all.

The stock windows 8 drivers work ok
Of course, you don't get all of the Beats enhancements. -
I tried the new workaround fix and it did not work.... Still getting the Limiter problem killing my music.
I also tried going into the registry and tweeking with the the compressor and limiter properties in: IDT/Line Out/plugins section and still nothing.
How do we get a fix for this?
Thanks -
My audio suddenly stopped working. I'm not able to get any sound out of any jacks or my speakers. ANyone have any idea what to do?
-
Go to HP recovery manager --> reinstall drivers --> and reinstall the IDT High Definition Audio driver.
-
Anybody try out the new IDT drivers mentioned in the forum announcement?
Want to make sure its worht it before I undo these changes and install them.
Thanks! -
-
So if I install the new IDT drivers, am I still able to use the Beats equalizer/enhancements? I haven't been keeping up with this thread, but I know the past IDT installs forces you to lose the Beats enhancements.
-
Isn't one way to fix this issue just to disable Beats audio?
-
-

How can I undo the Old Workaround?

Where do I download the new audio driver from? On the HP website they only have one from april.
-
There is an announcement at the top of the forum....
Announcements - HP & Compaq -
I installed the new IDT driver, but still experience random increases and decreases in volume. Looks like I will have to try this non-oem fix.
-
To apply my fix, you must revert back to an older driver (e.g. 6.10.6395.0).
You will also notice that the "Beats Audio button" is no longer working after installing the new drivers posted in the announcements. This is true even after uninstalling the new drivers and reverting to older drivers.
Reversing the direction of the Volume Wheel also no longer works.
tl;dr version: DO NOT INSTALL IDT DRIVER VERSION 6.10.6418.0 (POSTED BY NBR MODS @ ANNOUNCEMENTS), THEY ARE BROKEN -
the beats button wasnt working for a bit for me but that was because i disabled it in startup. i reenabled it in msconfig and its working now.
my wheel is working (counter clockwise is increase, clockwise is decrese) maybe i got lucky -
I had the same sound leveling problem with my Envy 17t-3200, purchased early Sept. I ran the registry fix and the leveling problem was fixed...thank gawd. It did disable the beats audio effects for bass, treble, center and space. The graphic equalizer still works and can be adjusted. sound now sounds much better and no longer sounds distorted, compressed or randomly adjusting by itself.
One thing i did notice is that it seems the volume itself does not get as high or loud as it used to be before the registry fix. I swear when I had the level cranked all the way up it was louder prior to the fix...*shrugs* at least the sound is much better now. Only issue I have with this laptop is the frickin touchpad...wished it was more so centered with the spacebar because the palm of my right had keeps touching the touchpad when I type so it moves the cursor all over the place or selects things that I dont want to. it's a pain...at least I can turn the touchpad of though...but still annoying!Attached Files:

Thank you! your patch and advice on reverting driver software worked wonderfully! I felt like chucking this 1000$ laptop because the audio was infuriated me with its fluctuations.
Thank you once again!! -
New drivers 6417, 6418, 6423 still have volume fluctuation issue. Workaround also does not work on them.
Had to revert back to:
6.10.6395.0: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp57001-57500/sp57345.exe
And reapply workaround.
