Wow, it's such a great feeling seeing your bios screen suddenly reappear after so much beeping.

Thanks alot for that bios recovery guide.

Just a couple of things to add to the instructions:
    - For me, the wincris.exe file made the usb disk bootable did not copy the files, so the files in the CRISDISK zip file must be copied to the disk after the wincris.exe is run for that disk
    - The windows + B keys MUST be held down from before the power is switched on to after the light on the usb flash drive has finally stopped, otherwise the program will seem to stop running
    - After the light has stopped flashing on the usb drive, just leave the computer to flash the bios and turn off itself

Anyway, thanks again - I'll be very careful when overclocking back to my old settings

    Glad it work for you..

You need only 3 files to the usb boot disk and the wincris.exe
make them, instruction is the help file - replace the bios file before
    runing the wincris.exe
I didn't had to copy any files for me to work...

Hey johnksss did you alter the : standard 2D and low-power 3D as well?
    or just performance 3D?

There is no need to alter anything but performance 3d, as that is the setting that gets used when gaming.

If you do alter the other ones, you might make your gpu idle hotter than before, for no real gain.

I'm pretty sure aero wouldnt be affected by it. You can test this by seeing if you get a higher WEI score in vista, but otherwise it wont do much for 2d games which already run perfectly in today's systems.

Feel free to do whatever you want though. The key thing to OC is 3d performance.

Thanks johnksss, I defaulted to all normal just to see what I could gain
really with the overclocking, later on I will flash again.
I also boot WinXP and Tiger with this laptop..
I have another PC that I build for gaming ..

Maybe it explained it all in the help files - I couldn't open them as Vista just gave it's useful "The Windows Help (WinHlp32.exe) program is no longer included in Windows".
    Anyway, it's all good now.

your desktop is 2d and everything you do in vista is 2d, till you get to gaming. the aero is 3d when you start flipping screens around. and besides...but this is just a guess...now i could be wrong....lol

Cool photo, Is the GPU to the left and the CPU center bottom?
look like the CPU can be upgraded.
    Is this a dv9700t?

The CPU is center, it says T9300 on it.

John, thanks for the pic, now I know what to expect when I swap out my two CPU's. I would guess the GPU is to the left.

yup, yup. I was supposed to post pics but i got lazy.

I ended up applying artic silver 5 to both the gpu and cpu. Im seeing a good difference so far especially under full load, but im waiting for the thermal paste to fully kick in. Also cleaning the fans has improved my temps, and using the 2nd bay drive to run my OS means that the 1st bay drive runs a lot cooler. The faulty design of hp laptops is that you can get a sweaty hand from the heat coming from the 1st hardrive, so shifting the OS over has improved the temps a lot. They usually stay below 48, with the max temps of reaching 51c. The gfx has gone as low as 44c on idle and never above 52, unless gaming. Cool stuff.

Sager is nice but they have drawbacks not to mention the cost.
I would think HP should be able to make it like Sager much cheaper.

    Update 6 april
I have now changed my clockes to 600\1200\450, after looking around this seems to be the most stable without the risk of turning my laptop into a brick.

OK, thanks to all this is a great post.

    I have a HP Pavilion DV9790eo Laptop

I have carried out the mod on the F.45 BIOS for my laptop and it works great. I did not put in the F.23 part as I didn t want to risk messing with my other Nvidia settings.

The clock timings have upped to with no problems is 675/450/1350. under normal operation temp 65c doesn t go that much higher when running COD 4 at 1360x768 with all graphic settings high except dead body count.

I have noticed people worried about tempreture, but people have to remember the newer Nvidia mobile cards operate at a much higher tempreture safely than the old days when 80 c would crash your laptop and I noticed that the cut off for HP is way above 100c.

Thanks all, keep up the good work :)

Here's some pictures of changing the processor of a dv9560 (the process would be the same for any dv9500, dv9600 or dv9700 notebook) (I originally took them for my BTEC IT Coursework).
I followed the instructions in the HP service manual from their website ( http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01295898.pdf), which were mostly correct but missed out some things such as having to unplug and remove the wireless card in order to remove the display.

    Hope those are useful

Upgrading the processor from a 1.8GHz t7100 to a 2.4GHz t7700 improves performance quite reasonably - I got my t7700 off eBay for a good price compared to what they usually retail for (although it is an 'Engineering Sample', whatever difference that makes)

I pick up my new DV9700t on wed. I will try coolbits first thing and let you know how it turns out. After having completely redo the dell with no help from customer support mind you (where are you calling from???? :D) I am ready to tackle the HP. After that I am on to dual boot it with win xp mce.

    nah, that's nvidia telling stories.
that would be their 256m card using shared memory and not the 512m dedicated card. seems they neglected to tell folks which it was really pertaining to.

and the best you can get a 512 to run stable at is like 675/460/1350 and if it starts to artifact..then drop off 5 mhz off core/memory using rivatuner and it's all good.

this seems the most stable without the risk of turning my laptop into a brick, I run COD 4 no problem with this :)

I've never played COD4, but I do play Timeshift, FEAR, Crysis and Stalker.
All set to high or a custom setting near high, my avg FPS not seems to be
    lowest 16, middle 47 and highest 98=53

My temps run 158 Fahrenheit, is that bad? I did set the default threshold lower
in the BIOS so the warning comes on sooner.

I might get COD4 to see how it is.
