Make sure you're using a USB floppy
-
I´ve followed exactly that post (thanks), but what happens is the following:
1. the floppy led is on and seems to read;
2. the floppy led turns off
3. the notebook fan starts very fast (strong noise)
4. it keeps like that forever... no shutdown or boot
5. I take out the AC plug
6. re-insert the battery and AC plug and turn the note on
7. still a black screen.
Any tips???? -
okay, the trick is, when you're holding WIN+B, and you hit the power button of your laptop, like TWO SECONDS after you hit the power button, you want to let go of WIN+B
The key is correct timing, once you see the floppy LED come on, LET GO of WIN+B
It only takes 2 or 3 minutes to do the flashing, so if it's taking 10 minutes, it didn't work....your computer will turn off too, that's when you know it's done. I've done this like 3 or 4 times, sometimes it beeps, sometimes it doesn't, it's pretty weird.
Try it again, and make sure you get the timing right at the beginning as that's the most important thing. -
-
Hmm, this is very strange....
Monkey, try using another USB port, use every USB port your computer has, I think that may be it....
Let me know, we're gonna get this thing working, I promise you! Make sure you re-read my directions again just to make sure you're doing every single thign right, but for now try another USB port on your laptop for your Floppy drive. -
I've tried everything in this forum (and also in others). No way... so I decided to have my laptop using the radical way... open it and reflash the BIOS using an EPROM writer! And guess what? That was the only thing that really worked! See the photos:
So, after that what I can tell you is: DON'T UPDATE THE BIOS UNLESS YOU REALLY NEED IT!!!
Anyway, thank you illmatic8 for all the effort in helping me! -
oh....my......god, way to go Monkey! Can't believe it took all that, holy smokes.
Well, I am definitely glad you got it fixed and I'm sure you're scarred for life when it comes to modding your BIOS.
I'd go as far as to NOT recommend ANYONE doing this BIOS Flash hack unless they've used the Crisis Recovery on their laptop and got it actually work before.
Congrats again Monkey! Must be nice to have your laptop back -
The Crisis Recovery does not need to be put on a USB Floppy. As proved tonight the software will do plugged in Flash drives. Booted from it no problem, did exactly as it was to be, about 50 seconds of beeping, shut down, boot up, perfect
.

If anybody is interested and haven't been mentioned before 181.22 Dox Optimized drivers are no more bios locked, you can overclock using just Riva Tuner and no flashing.
-
-
just to say that this method works with f59 bios too
-
hi maybe you guys xan help me though its not rekated to bios oc per se
but i figured since there are so manygood overclockers here id give it a try
i owna dv8740us with a 8600gs 512mb which i o/c'ed to 650/450 using doxs 182.05s and rivatuner
it was ok for a few days then i played nba 2k9 and the screen filled with green artifacts after an hour of play
i quit the game and got a driver stopped working error
i then reset my laptop and ran 3dmark05 which it wasnt able to complete. got nvdkmm error or somethin like that.

i reset and my lappy givesme a driver error on startup. reset and enter safemode to uninstall nvidia and riva but the screen artifacts. reset again and bsod
i know when i was gaming etcthe temps dint go higher than 88 and my o/cs were well within established limits
what did i do wrong??? -
Your motherboar presents a problem with gpu by default with a nvidia chips. if you have warranty call HP. For more information look here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=296979.
-
1: remove the over clock.
2: uninstall the driver
3 reboot the computer
4 let computer install standard vga driver
5 reboot again
6 then install the 179.48 driver from nvidia click here
and your over clocking software from here
7 reboot computer
8 run 3dmark stock first
9 then do a small over clock
let me know what happens... -
hi thanks for the tips
i actually brought my laptop to the hp service center and they replaced my system board. they said there was a problem with my vdeochip.
good thing i had two days still on my warranty!!!
i believe i may have set the o/c too high for my vidcards memory and thats what fried...
i read somewhere in the forum that the 512mb 8600 gs is susceptible to this memory overheat issue more than the one containing 256mb... -
nah, it didn't fry..they just didn't know how to correct it is all.. i went through all this with them before. the beginning of this thread shows how to flash the bios which hp was not about to do..lucky you!..

Hello All,
Since the frying nVidia GPU in HP machines is a general concern and HP is refusing to list all affected models in the extended service warranty (including my dv9740us), I urge you to mail Mark Hurd, the CEO of HP with your concerns, so that HP higher management realizes this issue...
http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/execteam/email/hurd/
If we mail like this en masse, hopefully we will get a suitable announcement that includes our models too.. -
the 8xxx nvidia vidcards have a known soldering problem in the hp laptops
ive written their managers about and some guys in these forums have too.
maybe we can force them to do a recall or replace our machines. longshot but worth a try, you never know.... -
yeah, because they flat out told us no about a year ago when i had my dv9740us model. so hopefully after a year they see the light.
allot of the time the chip gets to hot because of the surface it sits on and the fans are dirty and the heat sinks are full of lint. these things have to be cleaned like every month or so to ensure long prolonged life of the chip.
yes there is a issue with the chips, but can be dropped to a bare minimum with proper care...sitting it in your lap or on the bed or in the grass will definitely speed up the "burn your chip up" process..lol
here goes one of my runs while over clocked...
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=6870261
it's not so much that soldering like they say (speculation of course), because i took the whole laptop apart and looked when they came back with solder stuff.
it's more about that chip generates way to much heat for that 1 fan/heat sink setup it really needs it's own fan and heatsink. -
i do love my laptop though but im just getting frustrated with this issue and may get myself a sager just like you did -
these sagers weigh like 2 of them hp's....lol -
-
tis is true!!..lol
but there is the w90vp
and the ocz whitebook/alienware m17
the Qosmio X305 Q706 -
yeah too bad hp doenst have a gaming line (not the voodoo pc)
-
illmatic8 how do you work your 4GB OCZ 667mhz DDR2 RAM @ 4-4-2-10
