Heck no. Ive seen the pics on here, that's good enough for me. No need to void my warranty, in case I do break something. I undervolted, but it didnt get me too far. I did clock using f.27 slipped at 700/1500/505, and the score is posted below. Keep in mind, compared to your rig.. I've got a t7500. U have the Penryn chip, mine's the santa rosa. But, I think Ive safely pushed my limits. No reason to ruin a good laptop. And just in case anyone else here is considering the clocks John and I have mentioned.. Dont try this at home kids. It's not the last time I'll OC, I assure you. Im actually looking at picking up the Gateway 6860-FX. Looks like a good deal, just need a new CPU. Anyhow, let me know if ya think of any tips/tricks to jack my 3dmark scores up for bragging rights!
Scores @ Default 1280x1024

Good luck to all OC'ing, have fun!
-
you might as well.. dondadah is on his way to a gateway as well. then you can upgrade the cpu at any time. and put it back to send in for warranty repair. takes about 5 minutes. literally.
and then you will see how the 3dmark06 is really suppose to run...lol -
Well john, I decided not to go with the Gateway. Instead, I got the new Toshiba Qosmio x305-Q701 model. It's an exclusive thru bestbuy, however it's not advertised there yet, and not many ppl know bout it. Here's the link with rig stats http://www.i4u.com/article18998.html - I'll be posting my 3dmark here shortly..just waiting for it to download. I figfured for the cost, this machine was well worth it. It's got the new P7350 Intel Montevina(Centrino2) chip, 9700m GTS, 200GM 720rpm HDD, and a true 1066 mHz FSB with 4 Gigs of DDR3 RAM. I'll throw another drive in to go RAID and swap CPUs when the cost drops just a bit for the new ones. Otherwise, sweet deal! Keep an eye out for the 3dmark scores! I'm excited to finally get to see the thing run properly
-
not worth it for a 9700m gts
9700M GTS
48shaders
530MHz core clock
1,325MHz shader clock
256-bit Memory interface
800MHz memory clock
8800m gts is still better
so see if you can find it with a gtx card if you can else your going backward.....
not to bad at all...might have to pull one of them pretty soon, but one with sli this time. -
X9100, so if anyone runs across a retailer with one in stock please let me know.
-
Well, the 3dmark Orb site won't allow me to post my results for whatever reason.. I suppose it's cause the hardware isn't all publicly released? Who knows.. anyhow, I've attached a couple of screen shots. These results are out of the box, minus bloatware from Toshiba. Not too bad, but you'll see the CPU really drags, but what'd ya expect for a 2.0 dual core?

2: wait for the quad to come out. should be out very soon.
your stock score of 7300 looks nice, but to many lower chips with higher stock scores and higher sm 2.0 & 3.0 scores. so im gonna have to go with everyone else on that...8800m gts is still a better performer. (personal opinion based)
waiting on the right one to come out, but not with a 48 shader gpu. has to be 96 or higher -
Well.. good to know Toshiba has delayed the newer Qosmio x305-q702 which has the 9800m GTX. Im bout to return this model to BestBuy, and wait for the more beefy model to be released publicly. Dont get me wrong, I like the laptop.. I'd just enjoy it more if I had MORE hard drive, a 9800m GTX, and RAID with more space. This is the panzee's model for those on a really tight budget.
Really though, for the money it's worth it. Scored 8395 3dmark06 BTW. I'm still upset there's no support for the video card, processor, or ANYTHING, except for driver downloads on toshiba. If you were spending $2200(upgraded x305-q702), what would you recommend John? I think the upgraded model is WELL worth the extra $600. Anyhow, I'm not complaining.. I'm just letting ya know the real deal. Oh, and I bet my 3dmark would smoke yours if I had a decent processor on this thing..not a p7350 p.o.s

Hi, I own a hp dv9831ca, and it has 8400M GS video card.
I had read this whole thing through, and trying to mod the BIOS; however, I can not build BIOS because it keeps showing there are 3 errors as someone had experiance in the first few page.
Can anyone of you who had succeeded moding BIOS help me build a new one?
thank you!!! -
Hi guys,I've read the all thread, and "haven't seen" anything about undervolting the 8600m Gs.
I have a dv9575ep with a t7300 2.0GHz undervolted @0.937v,think it's pretty good,I'd like to do some undervolting in the card,is there a way of testing without flashing bios? -

need some help with getting phoenix bios editor
i want to mod the bios so i can test setting with newer drivers -
thanks for the tutorial
does this work for a benq joybook s41 as well? (geforce 8600gs)
btw i have another question and it would be great if anyone here can help me. I've read a lot of posts regarding 8600gs and users are able to oc core clock up to 650 or above. For me, however, when I tried to oc it to around 650, my computer restarts by itself. (it crashes the second i click APPLY in rivatuner). I'm really confused since other s41 users are able to oc to such level when mine is a piece of **** like that.
any help would be appreaciated. thanks. -
Hello,
maybe a little bit off-topic but i guess it could be interesting for some people out there.
Is it possible to change the oprom for the gpu itself to some different version (in my case its the rom for a 7600 go which causes a lot of problems especially with osx ... this problem seems to be related to the sony-vaio series itself and doesnt occur for other 7600 go -owners)?
My oprom3 shows up as 7600 go, Version: 05.73.22.12.48 - Date: 05/18/06
Oprom4 shows up as 7600 go Version: 05.73.22.47.04 - Date: 08/22/06
Any idea/suggestion is appreciated ... -
Hi lads,
anyone already tried the F.58 bios? -
Now I am trying to "get back" my pc...
i've read the whole topic and some links like this one: forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?admit=109447626+1228836799591+28353475&threadId=974719
SO what I did:
Downloaded the attachment of the link
opened the program
put the option copy files (to my pendrive)
took out battery
plugged the pendrive
held win+b
plugged the cord
it makes a beep, and nothing (I am still holding win+b) am I doing something wrong? -
what I think I did wrong was in nibitor after overwriting oprom2.rom I writed a new one and changed that in phoenix bios editor... -
Hey Skinnie,
sorry for my late reply
Good to hear you managed to recover your lap. How did you finally make it?
I am going to try the f.58 bios as soon as I get my lp from the hp service. Unfortunately bad blocks on the hard drive.. :/ -
I had to recover the lappy with an usb floppy with crisis bootdisk,I tried pendrives but no way.
I flashed safer clocks (650/450) because when I was testing the driver seems to corrupt and then any clock that I would try stopped the driver while running 3dmark...I think I can get 700/470 or more but I don't have much time, and don't need it too much..I just play gtr evolution and now Catia V5R19 lol -
Hey guys, can't believe I just went through all 37 pages lol....anyways...
I have an HP DV2500T with a 8400M GS with GDDR3 memory, default clocks are 400/600 with shader at 800.... My question is, there was some confusion for the 8400M if we edit the OPROM1 or OPROM2, can anyone confirm before I go screwing around in there? Thanks so much fellas -
hey guys...you can try the new nvidia driver which now allows you to software over clock your vga cards...give it a try and see if this will work for you
http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_drivers.html
these are whql from nvidia. -
Thanks for the quick reply, john.
Yup, I'm already on the 179.28's from nVidia, no go from either nTune or RivaTuner, they just revert back to the default clocks. 169.04 were the only ones I was able to overclock with.
I'm happy nvidia has finally released notebook drivers so we don't have to fool with desktop ones.. I just wished these new ones o/c'd...Some have said they were able to overclock on these, so I guess it just matters on the card/computer.
John, any idea on which oprom file I should edit? The original guide says oprom2, but then a user (forgot the name, started with a D) said it was oprom1 for 8400M GS...Any ideas? Thanks again bro. -
did you also download the ntune system tools 6.03 as well?
-
hey john, no I didn't, I'll try that, thanks man.
-
hopefully that's what it was...and no problem
-
nope, that didn't work either, so annoying.
I'm just gonna try the BIOS method I guess, hopefully nothing goes wrong, lol. -
well that's not cool...maybe they will include the earlier cards with in the next few weeks...
but if you follow the instructions then all should work well... -
lol, stuck at a empty black screen upon boot now, nice.
gotta wake up in the morning to go buy a usb floppy and do a crisis recovery
should have just left it alone, lol -
Man, SFNICE to see the BIOS screen yet again and turn my computer into something usable again.
Want to say many, many thanks to mhp32 (check the first post of the thread for directions)
I'd like to actually elaborate on his instructions, cause it took me a while cuz I kept trying different things.
****YOU'LL NEED A USB FLOPPY FOR THIS****
Step 1.) Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?3ccb9m0kv0m
Step 2.) Download the latest BIOS from the HP website for your computer.
Step 3.) Extract with WinRAR and rename your *.WPH to BIOS.WPH
Step 4.) Copy BIOS.WPH into the CRISDISK folder (from Step 1)
Step 5.) Plug in your USB Floppy and run CRISDISK.BAT and follow the instructions on the screen
Step 6.) Make sure battery is taken out of your dead laptop, and pull any peripherals and the AC cord.
Step 7.) Plug in the USB Floppy drive.
Step 8.) HOLD the Windows Key + B on your keyboard. While holding WIN+B, plug in your AC cord, and while still holding, WIN+B, hit the power button.
Step 9.) You'll see the floppy light come on, what's it comes on, LET GO of WIN+B.
Step 10.) You'll hear a loud set of beeps for the next minute or two while it reads the BIOS from your floppy. After two or three minutes, your laptop will shut off. Unplug the USB Floppy, pull out the AC cord, place in your battery, and finally plugin the AC cord, and Welcom back dead Laptop.
That's the LAST time I screw around with the BIOS like that, that's for SURE. Take care guys, hope this post was able to elaborate on mph's original one. PM me for questions, hopefully no one will need to do this. -
hense the very first post on the start of this thread... lol
i went through the same thing as you. and so did quite a few others. but in my case..i keep a usb floppy laying around.
glad it all worked out. if i get access to my old hp dv9700, ill test it to see if the new video drivers work on it. it's a 8600m gs 512. -
hey john, I found out what it was. It's not that I did anything wrong, it's the problem with the DV2X00T bios's.
For ****s and giggles, I downloaded the BIOS you, Knivez, etc used for your 9700 notebooks, three different onces, F.23, F.51, and F.58. I loaded them all onto Phoenix BIOS Editor, and I got the same alerts as mine (Unsupported module etc) EXCEPT the DV2000 bios's bring up the error "Error in RLS Module 3!" at the very end, this is why I had no idea what Knivez was talking about with the whole "Main, System, Configuration" and changing Main to Main1 because that screen doesn't show up in my BIOS.
That's all it was, if I had the 9700, this thing would have went smooth. Pretty bummed that you can't do this BIOS hack on the DV2000/DV2500's. I'm gonna mess around a little more and see if I can find some older BIOSes for my system.
Thanks for all your help, john.
***REMINDER: If you have a DV2000T or DV2500T ---------- DO NOT TRY THIS HACK, YOUR BIOS WILL FAIL. **** -
hummm, if that's the only thing...then do this.
the reason for the main to main 1 is to force the bios to change so you can save it.
you can pick another section in there to just add a letter or number then remove it. then go and build the bios.
example:
oprom.rom
rename it to opromm.rom but do not save.
then rename it back oprom.rom
or any file. you can click on any setting you can click on that will change. then click it back. this is what allows you to rebuild the rom file correctly.
hope this makes sense. -
Yeah I know what you mean.
The problem I meant was, the 9500T bioses don't have any serious errors when loading them with Phoenix Bios Editor.
When I load the DV2500T bioses, I get an error at the end "Error loading RLS module 3!"
This prevents the popup that has "Main, Config" etc to not even OPEN at all, so when you go to Build the Bios, your building a faulty BIOS.
I checked a couple other DV2500T bioses, and they both have that same error, however, your BIOSes in the DV9500T have no errors at all. Hope that makes sense now. I guess I'm SOL on this bios hack. Whatever I'm just glad to have my computer up and running lol. -
Yup, did some googling and found this:
-
hp and that dammn whitelist...
probably better off just waiting about a week or two..nvidia is getting around to it's lower cards... (speculation of curse) -
illmatic8: If you haven't tried already, Darth Bane found Zotac overclocker worked for his dv5 while others wouldn't. Might be worth a try, only a small download. See below for details.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4294404&postcount=3 -
Hey 0.0, thanks for the suggestion. I just switched back to 169.04 for now to enjoy o/c'ing....I'm pretty sure that Zotac program won't work anyway since it's locked from the BIOS apparently...maybe I'll do a system restore check point and try it, thanks again.
-
Ummm... I don't really understand that if the BIOS is truly locked then why does using a different driver work
Hope it works for you, at least you don't have to mess with flashing to try -
K, I tried it 0.0, no luck =/
Sliders go back to default when I hit Apply....oh well, no worries. thanks anyways -
Thanks for trying and the feedback. Sorry that it didn't work for you -
Hey everyone! Hope there's still someone looking at this thread.
I have an HP dv6500 with an 8400M GS and made the bios mod with the F.30 bios. But I had to use the OPROM0 file which was the one nibitor accepted.
So I pushed my clocks 150 Mhz higher and it fully works. Hope this will help someone.
But I have a question : Is there anybody how succesfully oc'ed his processor in that Notebook Model ? Is it possible with another bios tweak ? I used Clockgen and other software but nothing worked for me (except nTune, but thats not really stable... )
Have a nice day and a good new year! -
The only tool that I know that allows some tweaks,is memset,i used it for my mems. -
Well, is there a way to get this thing undervolted without software ? That would be even better.. -
-
It's sad because I could lower the voltage from 1.15 to 0.95.. primestable but not stable in using...
I think I'll give it again a try tomorrow.. have a nice weekend! -
And my dv9575ep is always undervolted, and my 4Gb mems are @CL5-4-4-4..something lol -
-
Happy New Year All
I have HP DV9790 with 8600m gs 512mb. Good News!
You now don t have to mod your BIOS anymore, latest Drivers 185.20 with Nvidia tools 6.03 installed, so you can change clock setting in Nvidia control panel, you need the modded inf for install from laptop2go forum more info about 185.20 at 3dguru, i suggest you get the driver from 3dguru and the modded inf from laptop2go dopy the modded inf into install folder then run setup, the reason i say get driver from 3dguru is theres include the updated physix driver as well
185.20 Driver after driver install click the physix install as this is not installed with driver setup

Yes ill vouch for the 185.20 as an overclockable driver. Its a godsend.

Thanks to skinnie, I was able to find out about MemSet and was able to tweak my ram.
Here's the post in the original MemSet thread by Dirt if anyone wants to do it:

So, after doing the BIOS update I just got a black screen! I have an HP DV6663cl. I've tried the Crisis Recovery method from the first post and here is what happens:
1. make the diskette and follow the instructions
2. the notebook reads the diskette and the fan starts running strong
3. it keeps like that (I waited about 20 min.)
4. I disconnect the AC cable and reboot
5. the black screen is still there!
Tried already with f.59, 58, 57 and 51. Can someone give me a help here?
