It also disables any power saving features you might have.

So my 1.6GHz i7 will always run at 1.6GHz. It won't downclock to 400MHz when I change the power plan to my custom profile, nor will it turbo boost to 2.8GHz when I'm stressing a single core.

Just tried this on an Envy 15 1150nr. It's with a F2.B A Bios. I tried Powering on with F10 and then A but i still could not access the advanced menu.

Works on Envy 14 1050CA. Hit F10 on boot until the message says "F10 pressed...blah blah blah" then spam "A". You'll hear a few beeps.

Been trying this for a while on my Envy 14 SB with F.06 BIOS. Does not seem to work. Can anyone else confirm?

    Confirmation.
Doesn't work on Envy 14 SB. You need to mod the bios. I had semibricked my Envy doing that.

    Hi guys,

I just bought an envy 14 (i5) a few month ago and had those heat and fan issues, too. CPU temps were around 55°C all the time and of course the fan ran all day long ;D
I tried to find the source of the problem and found that my i5 ran on 2,6ghz all the time, which its not supposed to be, at least if we believe in intels merchandise ;)
Reading this thread, I tried out some settings in the advanced bios.. I dont remember anyone mentioned it here so i will: did anyone tried to set the advanced c-states off?
For me it works, the cpu stops staying at 2,6ghz and goes down to about 1,2ghz when barely used (and with energy saving setting on). Temps went down from 50+°C to 35°C and battery lasts much longer, too. If neccesary it goes up to 3,2 Ghz, of course.

Now one following problem. The louder one of the two(?) fans really shuts completely off after a short time, which makes the envy enjoyable silent. But the kick-in setting seems to be set at around 36-36°C so the fan starts going on and off all the time...

Well, hope this is helpful for some of you anyway ;)
    **************************************************

edit: My fault... obviously it was the Hyperthreading turned off instead of enhanced c-states.
like it was mentioned here the envy wont wake up from standby now.

Its kind of sad for a "premium" notebook.

either: no dynamic cpu clock, which causes loud fans, heat and poor battery.
or: dynamic cpu clock BUT: no HT, no Standby

At least we got the choice, huh? ;D

Sorry to bump this, but has anyone tried this on BIOS version F.26? Can't seem to have any luck after updating.

After using the Series 7 for a while, I feel that the ENVY14 is only premium on its look ie exterior. The hardware side does not seem to be fine-tuned well. Loud fans are loud.

    Hi, guys.
I just figure out the fan noise issue for my envy 14- nr1110,
There are two fans, I found the bigger one was the trouble maker.(under the keyboard center)
So, I disconnect the power cable to this fan, finally, my envy get quite.

With only one fan on, everything is working fine, the CPU temperature around 50 C when i surfing internet and watching some movie.

But I'm not sure it's safe or not to do this. I'm worry about high intensity situation for CPU.

Do you guys have any clue to reduce the speed of the bigger fan(reduce the fan noise).
If we can find a way the reduce this bigger fan's speed, problem will be solved.

I know some fan speed controller, but just for desktop,

    Maybe a resistor would work?

yeh, a resistor should work, but still have some concerns, sounds not a permanent solution.
1.have to cut off the cable to connect a resistor,
2.the resistor probably have some heat issue,

Is it possible to reduce the default (minimun) fan speed?
Have any tiny speed controller to adjust the fan speed?

I had a long chat with a level 2 support guy at HP about this. The fan seems to kick in at ~35c and turn off at 34c, which seems odd, if not idiotic.
The tech guy tried to fix that using some advanced settings on the support assistant, but found that the Envy did not have any fan sensor, nor a way to controll them via software. He sound more perplex than I am, since I thought I was buying something at the level of a Probook.

BTW: fan cycling on other models was fixed on a bios update. I asked the tech guy to try elevate the problem to anyone on the bios group, just in case.

Nope, doesn't work for me anymore. It's a shame ... the least HP could have done was include this change in their changelog.

f26 does not work for me

f23 works without issue (when laptop is completely off, hold down f10+a. Whilst holding these two keys down, press the power button. Release f10+a when you see the message that f10 has been pressed).

any tips on how to stop the fan power cycling via the bios menu? I got pretty good results by reapplying thermal paste and want to see if i can improve on that.

On the bios f.26 HP removed the ability to access the Advanced. If you look a the bios file size for the f26 its around 4.5mb, while f23, f13 is around 6-6.5mb. I actually doungraded my bios to f23 from f26.

Just curious if anyone has ever found a modded bios for our laptop, I spent an hour searching online and found zilch.

As far as I understand, Envy BIOSs are RSA signed. That means: if the checksum of the bios changes, the system did not post at all and you can end with a brick. People at MyDigitalLife stopped getting requests for modding signed bios because of this, but I'm pretty sure I saw a couple of modded Envy bios at bios-mods.com, but without any confirmed success at that time.

is getting into the BIOS on my Envy 4T-1200 so damn hard???? I followed the instructions here precisely and for the life of me CANNOT GET INTO ADVANCED!!! I have F.23 installed with an option of downgrading to F.21... I am having latency issues since day 1 (only like a month now) and going from Win 8 to Win 7 didn't help. So I want to get into the advanced settings and turn off RAID and just try a regular HD with AHCI and see what happens...

So I will take ANY suggestions short of a sledge hammer!!
