Hi, is there any v5000z owner would like to make review, and take some high res photos?
Well, just a thought because I've not seen any review on this lappy yet =) It seems to be nice anyway....
Please, please, please, someone make the review =)
Cheers
-
-
That laptop is way to new to already have a review - wait a month or two, and you'll have your review
-
Well, you're right but some notebook review members already have the brand new v5000z. Please, give me (and all of us) some feedbacks =)...
LOL....
I wonder whether this new baby support dual channel or not?...
the old R4000z didn't, so I hope this one does...
Will wait =)
:hp: hp yes - but thumb down for their video card =( =( -
Currently, all Turions are socket 754, which means they're not dual channel.
Now that Intel released their Core Duo, AMD will also surely release dual core version of Turion... only a matter of time. -
I just got one....
I need some time to play with it. My first impression is that the case could be stronger and made from better materials.
The happy times of wel designed Compaq are gone. Not it is HP Compaq and seems like the first one is trying to get rid of the second. -

Probably early in the 2nd quarter, since that's when the new socket changeover will begin. Dual core, dual channel DDR2 memory. If HP will build me a nice Turion x2 with GeForce 7600 GPU I'll probably buy one.
-
Hi Anycz,
Well, I'm glad that you buy that baby. By the way, after some times playing it. Would you like to do some reviews and take lots of pics (high-res is preferable, *grin)?... Gosh, I really, really, really wish somebody hear this....
Yes, I agree that Brian's suggestion for dual core Turion is much better, but who knows. I hope they drop the price, that would be super duper looper cool...... LOL
The only thing suck is they still are SO stubborn to provide high-res wide screen 15.4 screen like 1440 or 1680.
Anyway, wish to hear some responds

I'm also thinking about getting a v5000z. I was wondering if the machine runs hot? Would I be able to suf the web for a couple hours with the machine on my lap? Also, how is the screen and how long can it run on a fully charged battery? Thanks. -
I just built one of these today and had it shipped for under 1000 heres the specs on it ill have to post on how it runs

It does not get hot aqt least as for me. The screen is fine, good for movies. I still did not soleve the problem with the memory. How it can supporst DDR2????? I am almost sure wright now that it does not. It looks just like a marketing trick. Anyway I have been told by hpshopping that it works with DDR2 PC 4200!!!! I ordered it with regular ddr1 and I am not really sure if I should put a DDR2 insidde. Do not bother yourself to cal technical support. They have problems to distinguish regular ram and ram installed for the graphics. Forget about asking for specification of the ram (such details are much too far tech support). One lady replied me in the email that it works as ddr2 if You fill uot both stics!!! It was exactly:
" From the information available to me, it appears that it is 333 MHz DDR SDRAM (PC2700). I have been informed that if you choose a '2 * xyz' memory configuration (like 2 * 256MB, or 2 * 512MB), the notebook will be enabled with the performance of DDR2 memory. If you choose a single module of memory, it will not."
Is'n it funny?
By the way on the compaq site they sell V5000Z with single ddr2 stick !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have mentioned that a guy from hpshopping told me taht it somehaw menage to work with PC 4200..
Then I have been told by an online "technician " that it supports only PC 2700 and that " ddr2 for laptops has 240 pins and that is why it cannot work with mine"
Finally i chat with a technician from crucial and he told me that like for him ( they do not have it in the database yet) it does not support the ddr2 but just ddr1.
As You can see, do not bother yourself by contacting with HP service. they are not sure even what they sell. I had a good opinion about compaq but it started to change..
BTW anybody with really expert knowlegde about memory can put some light on it???? Please. Even if it supports somehow ddr2 I have Turion ML37 Lancaster.... How it can menage to work???? -
Arrgggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I am angry with HP insensitivity. Yes, they always do that. Crappy GPU, broken dual channel memory and defanged lappy.
...... he he a little humour from me, guys
But, still please.... anybody, somebody please make the V5000Z reviews. I am dying to hear it
Peace man,
The Monkey Has Sung
:budget:
PS: V5000z is a DDR1 333MHZ only. blurrrrrbbbbbb. I know, I hate it too. DDR2 is cheaper, it's impossible to support DDR2 with current architecture. -
I agree with Monkeysings, i called HP regarding the memory spec. They said it supports DDr2 but when i asked them, what type of memory is it they said its a pc2700. Is it just me, as far as i know, DDr2 doesn't have a pc2700 model.
It might comes out in the future *ahem*.
P.S - v5000z is now offering 100 instant rebates. I ordered my laptop on the 3rd of Jan. But it won't be built till the 12th. So I called in and ask them about it. They gave me bak 100 dollars. -
I heard the battery life on the dv4000 runs about 30 mins longer with an integrated graphics card compared to one with an x700. I was wondering if this is also the same with the v5000z between the 32MB Xpress 200M and the 128MB version. Also, anyone know if the ram listed below will work with the v5000z?

Thanks a lot! -

The power consumption difference between the 32MB and 128MB 200M should be minimal. Definitely buy the 128MB version. They shouldn't even offer the weaker version.
Ignore the very wrong info on the HP page about DDR2 memory. You need 200-pin DDR SODIMMs. I recommend this or this depending on whether you want to spend the extra money for PC3200 or not. HP uses PC2700. You'll need to remove the existing PC2700 memory to take advantage of PC3200 speed. -

this would work too? -

Hi Mr. Vasil,
Would you be so kind, please, to let us know about your brand new V5000z performance, experiences and take some pictures?...
I think We all would really appreciate that. We haven't seen any review yet, buddy?...
Cheer... -
I wish I could but I do not have one.If it was available when I bought zv6000 I might have taken it. I own L2000.
-
I guess I am mistaken. I read in one of your thread you purchased the brand new lappy V5000z...
Well sorry, peace man. =) -
Thanks for the information - My V5000 arrived yesterday, I am just setting it up - I contacted HP and they said they would give me extra money back.
I agree with the other posters that the covers look flimsy -the only thing I really dislike is the hinge, it is not tight and it is not a full hinge like the HP or the gateways have....my old presario had slightly better build quality but had the same hinge issue.
In a couple of days I will know enough to post more information -- I am waiting for my 2 GB RAM.
The only test I did is run super PI to 2M and I got 1 min 46 - my config is Turion 64 ML-40/40gb/256 RAM. Hopefully the extra RAM will make a difference. -
-
Yes, I would love that too Mr.
Please do give us some input (pictures, and hinge design too). That would be alsome.
Thanks a bunch =)

Super PI: 1m 35s
Hopefully I can take some pictures later this week (too busy now) and then post them.... -
Yes please sir, that really means a lot for me (at least) he he...
I wonder about the screen 1280*800 is it satisfying for you? typing, spreadsheet, bla bla bla...
Any dead pixel (yet). I hate dead pixel, I wish they can guarantee that there is no dead pixel. Otherwise, we will be picketing in front of them..

Office Depot has the v5005US for $699 after rebate. It seems like it may be a good deal. Granted, it only has a Sempron, but for the price, it may be worth buying.
I wish there was a review on it. -
I just found something cool. In the bios option, you can add another 128mb shared memory to the video card which makes it 256mb. Recommended if you have extra rams. It runs much smoother after i added it. Hope this helps.
-
I did the same thing with the ram on my zv6000...it helps.

To Onliluv and Vq_pwrd,
Hey guys, please tell us your new experience with V5000z because you guys the only people who have it now. I'd really love to see some pictures from you =)
Please, please, please respond...
thank you,

I just bought the v5005US two days ago. So far I really like it. I do think that I need to increase the ram from 512 to 1gb. I will also likely put in a 5400rpm harddrive. I haven't bothered with increasing the video RAM in the bios yet because of only having 512mb of RAM.
On the other hand, there's a part of me that wonders if I should have just gone with the Acer duo core with 2gb of ram and a 120gb harddrive as well as the 256mb ATI X1400 for $1500. Considering that the Compaq was only $750.00 after rebates, it seems more than enough for office documents, presentations, and surfing the web. I really have no intention of doing any gaming on it because I prefer my desktop for that. -
Hi Taylormade,
That's fantastic configuration. But I wont go for the Acer duo core for now - NO INTEL WANTED. =) I prefer AMD, cheaper and powerful. Don't regret it If I were you
pictures please...... Gosh anybody, somebody, please take some pictures.....

I just got a V5015US last Saturday for my wife and have been playing around with it. ***NICE***. My last personal Laptop was a Presario 1692 (450mhz) so this screams in comparison. I also have a Toshiba Satellite 4600 work lappy and again this blows it away. I am quite the gadget guy as I have a New PPC / Archos AV300 PVP / Nice Digi Camera Fuji S20 Pro and other thingamjigs. So far the 5015 interacts nice with them and my wireless network. I will take some photo's and post other findings tonight after work.
I'm new here, but enjoy forums of my other gadgets, so I look forward to hearing more from ya'll. -
After changing the amount of shared memory in BIOS, did you really see the increment of graphics memory in the ATI property (located in display property's advanced settings)?
-
Yes it says 256mb on there.
I just installed a 1gb OCz PC3200 ram but latency is 3 when its supposed to be 2.5
. So be careful guys.
-
I installed a 1gb pc3200 module (A-Data branded, bought from Neweggs) on my dv5020us (bought from OD), but the system refused to boot. I believe you selected "the 128MB ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/Hypermemory(TM)" when you customized your lappy. I have a question. Is this graphics card really dedicated (not shared)?
-
-
-
yes this video card is dedicated but you can add extra 128mb wif shared memory. Which gives it a total of 256mb. Be careful when you buy OCZ ram. 512mb DDR400 is Cas 2.5 but OCZ ddr400 1gb is cas 3. -
-
-
Is it possible to undervolt Sempron processors like the v5005US? Also, how does the speed of the sempron 3000+ compare to the ML-32?
-
Guys,
Do you mind if I suggest that we all submit suggestion to HP to upgrade their 15.4" resolution to 1680*1050 or higher.
What do u think guys =)
tx a lot -
-
-
I should have 2 OCZ 512MB sticks on my doorstep when I get home. They are the 2.5 CAS models.
-
Today I've bought a dv5036ea.
Turion ml32 and x200m.
I have some doubtsIs there someone that can help me?

I purchased a V5000 from HP’s website and it arrived a couple of days ago. As stated before by a couple people in this thread, the build quality is pretty disappointing. There is definitely some screen flex and the hinges are very loose. By moving the laptop back and forth, the screen will start tilting backwards. I also found the touchpad and buttons to be unusually small for a laptop of this size. Looks like it was just poor design since they left so much space between the screen and the keyboard. I was under the impression that this laptop would be similar to the V4000T but with an AMD processor, but it looks like the V4000T has a much better build quality and doesn’t have the annoyingly small touchpad and buttons.
I was also wondering if the other V5000 owners are experiencing a lot of keyboard flex in the lower right corner. Can I send back the laptop to HP for them to fix this problem? Thanks. -
Thanks Miner,
Pcwizard show me only that there is a x200m build in and not which one (32 or 128). The bios allows me to change the memory 32, 64, 128 mb. That's mean my video card is a x200m 128mb ( the best one)?
Thanks a lot
Any DV5000z or V5000z owner?
