ohh well, thats good to know for next time, 0.0
mm.. maybe i will try to update, but ill go back to vista 32 first, just to be sure nothing weird happens
-
As dannyres said you should be okay updating and sometimes it might be better to recover with an earlier BIOS version that is known to be working. Best of all though is probably making a backup of your current working BIOS to use for recovery.
-
pHREDRICK ! I wish F3rha4n would see this, your solution works!!! thank you thank you thank you -
sorry to keep botherin u all, hehe
not so related question, but maybe its good to prevent this problem in the first place
since the insyde util is a windows app.. is it better to flash normally, under safe mode or should it not make a difference? -
I guess using a multi-tasking OS for flashing might have some small risk of something messing things up while flashing but as long as the flashing software is okay there shouldn't be too many problem flashes. Having said that though, I personally prefer to use DOS for flashing.
-
thanks
well, i tried and it went ok this time.. phew! ;D
just curious.. is it possible to flash hp notebooks on dos?
i used to do that with my old video cards. yeah, much safer -
I bricked my hdx18t upgrading the chipset in win7. live in aus and bought the thing in the states. this post helped me de-brick it but i also figured out how you go about naming the file.
360FF23.fd is the file name for the bios. i tried many combinations but had no luck.
i looked at the platform.ini file that is included with the file off the hp site.
heres the start of that file
;The file is Insydeflash utility configuration file
[Version]
Version=00
;Insydeflash utility will display the value at top
[FDFile]
FileName= 360FF23.fd
BackupName=backup.fd
;FileName -> Utility always load this file.
;BackupName -> Utility will backup current BIOS to the file.
[UpdateBlock]
PatchFv=0
FileName=intel.fv
FileOffset=0
FlashSize=0
PhysicalAddress=FFF00000
FvID=945PL-A
IDErrorAction=1
;If user set PatchFv to 1, utility will go update mode.
;If user only need to update some blocks in file, please enter file offset and size
;in here. If flash size is 0, utility will update all binary in file.
;If flag in Platform_Check section is 1, utility will compare FvID with current
;platform ID. When ID comparison failed, user choose result by IDErrorAction.
;1 mean show error message box, 2 mean close utility and reboot/shutdown.
[Platform_Check]
flag=2
PlatformName=361B
PlatformName2=3610
PlatformName3=
PlatformName4=
PlatformName5=
PlatformName6=
PlatformName7=
PlatformName8=
PlatformName9=
;This flag is the switch of comparing bios project ID with ROM file project ID.
;When flag is 1, utility will check project ID.If ID doesn't match, utility will
;close the application. When flag is 0, utility won't check project id.
;When flag is 2, utility will check 9 platform IDs. If one is match, it will go flash.
;PlatformName -> If ROM file do not contain correct ID, user can define ID in this file.
the parts you should look for are
[Platform_Check]
flag=2
PlatformName=361B
PlatformName2=3610
i put in 361B and 3610 .BIN and .ROM
rather than beeping as described and then doing nothing it beeped for longer, shutdown and when powered back on was fine.
Thanks for all the ppl who posted. saved me a lot of money! -
And thank you raj85 for posting back. An excellent suggestion to check the platform.ini file, I have added it to Post 3 together with the HDX18T method you have provided.

What have you tried so far?
Have you tried D5AS.BIN -
hello there... my machine is dead... i need help .. any body there... fakakiss here
-
What happens when you try the D5AS.BIN, does the notebook attempt to read the file? Is your notebook still under warranty?
-
does anyone know how to recover a sony vaio vgn-z46 bios? it uses insyde bios. i tried everything suggested in this thread, but still no go.
is there a different boot key combination? -
Haven't heard of any Sony recoveries and it's quite possible they use a different key activation, this site http://feature-enable.blogspot.com/2009/07/enable-vt-on-insydeh2o-based-sony-vaio.html suggests win+esc or fn+esc. If it's correct you should hopefully see the notebook trying to access the usb drive even if you don't have the right file name.
For file names maybe try Sony.BIN or play around with the file extension. Try finding out the board number of the notebook, for instance IIRC mine is JAL50 so I might try JAL50.BIN or JAL50HW.BIN, again it might be worth playing with the file extension and changing it to .ROM for instance. Hopefully you can place all the different filenames on the usb drive when trying instead of one at a time to speed things up.
Maybe you will be the first to use the Insyde BIOS recovery on a Sony. -
HI there All,
First of all THANKS A LOT FOR THE THREAD> Three Cheers for blogging again.
People who use CQ45 can do the following as it worked for me : a.) Download F.11c. b.) extract f.11c with winrar or any zipping software. c.) copy the 30F7F12D.FD file and paste in onto a USB drive. d.) rename it as .bin. e.) Disconnect the AC adapter of your laptop, Remove the battery, insert the USB thumb drive, Hold down the keyboard windows key + 'B', Connect the AC adapter, Turn on the notebook with the power button, When the power comes on, the touch pad LED is amber instead of white*,
Let go of the keys on the keyboard, After a few seconds the USB thumdrive is accessed by the notebook, The notebook appears to scan the files on the notebook and while doing it might beep or not. The more files on the thumbdrive, the more beeps
there are or not, It seems to be looking for something, but not finding it the notebook apears to recycle and try again.
Once it is done, the laptop will shutdown.
Now do it again with this file : 30F7F12U.FD and rename it as .bin and do the rest as before................................
Now the laptop will shutdown.
IMPORTANT : WHEN AFTER SHUTDOWN, YOU START THE PC AGAIN, REMEMBER TO KEEP THE USB PLUGGED ONTO IT, DON'T UNPLUG IT.
AND YOU'LL SEE EVERYTHING IS NORMAL AND PC IS BOOTING.
TRY TO TAKE A USB PENDRIVE OF GB OR HIGHER AND KEEP IT FAT32, IT IS BETTER TO KEEP FAT32 I THINK.
LEMME KNOW IF IT WORKS FOR ANYONE. -
Not sure why you used a BIOS with discrete graphics ROM first and then switched to a BIOS with integrated but glad it worked for you.
On a separate note though, although I don't spend a lot off time on the notebook forum I do seem to be spending more time than I should and so therefore if someone wants to take over the BIOS recovery thread, perhaps start a new one since it encompasses more than just the CQ45, please feel free to do so using whatever you need from this thread. Thanks. -
Ok, i confirm that it work on dv6-1104tu
I used a 2gb usb key, formatted in fat32.
I had the F25A bios version, and by your method I returned back to the first version of my model, F24A.
am I crazy ???
No, I will try to do some bios mod, so just in case I brick my laptop. I wanted to be sure before...
P.S. The name of my bios file was 3628.bin
Thanks -
Hey hey...
just wanted to say thanks and report that I successfully flashed my Compaq Presario CQ70-120EG using this method. Filename was 3616.BIN
No beeping or led activity until the very end.
(The beeping in fact is VERY loud. Hope my neighbors forgive me for trying this at 2:00am)
Btw, if you still have access to your BIOS, there is an entry in the main menu called "System Board ID". The board ID + .BIN seems to be the filename needed.
Might be useful if you just want to make sure you can recover via USB before trying something dodgy.
regards,
zytrel. -
Hey there, i hope i can get help here. I just bricked my new acer 8471 with the insyde h20 bios - and didnt get it to work. The keyboard combinations do not seem to work - or does it load "silently" from a usb-stick maybe, so i don´t notice?
-
Hi
Can anyone give me some hope that I'm on the right lines?
Trying to restore bios on an HP Pavilion tx2500 (actual model number tx2635ea) which comes on but with blank screen and caps lock and num lock blinking twice continually, which indicates corrupt bios according to HP website.
Holding down windows key + B at startup I get a couple of beeps and the thumbdrive light blinks/flickers a few times with 1 and then 2 beeps (shortly after the thumbdrive light stops flickering) but the bios doesn't appear to get loaded.
Does this mean that its likely I've just got the filename wrong?
The fd file I have is 30F1F0F.fd and the platform file shows
[Platform_Check]
flag=2
PlatformName=30F1
so I've tried renaming to 30F1.BIN and 30F1.ROM but no joy.
Any suggestions anyone?
Thanks. -
Laptop now working after finding 1GB memory module was cause of problem.
-
This procedure worked for me on my HDX18T with some slight modification. After several runs at it using this procedure but failing I noticed that the laptop went through the same set of beeps whether I held the Win+B key or not. Also I left the power plugged in the entire time. It was the F31.A Insyde BIOS running from Windows that originally hosed the computer so the first time I tried this method with F12.A which would have been one step up from the original BIOS. After I had no luck with that I copied the .fd file from the F31.A flash, changing the name from 3610F31.fd to 3610.bin, plugged in the USB key and started the computer holding no keys down. That worked. In less than 3 minutes the computer shut down and I was able to boot to Windows.

I dont get the idea of removing the battery?
Is it so important? Or should I keep the battery on the machine just in case something happens to the adapter voltage etc??? -
ok my laptop came back on, works fine now. I think there is a real problem with the latest driver F21.
WOrked for me with one of the earliest drivers 0.7 -
hi to all: i've a dv5-1020el bricked. i've downloaded latest version of the bios from hp's site. i've extracted the exe file (sp42557.exe) and i've found two fd files: 3602F14.fd and 3603F14.fd. i don't know which is the right file to recovery the bios and how can i rename it. could you help me?
thank you and sorry for my very bad english! -
Basically you need to try both.. different ones work for different people. If you do the wrong one you can try the other one it wont do any harm. You just rename the file to 360x.BIN and pop it on a usb drive then boot holding winkey+B.
I'm assuming when you say your laptop is bricked it still actually turns on (i.e. the lights go on) but nothing happens? If the lights don't go on your skrewed.
-
I just wanted to thank the people in this thread for figuring this out. It's bad when you brick your own computer, but I just Bricked MY FRIENDS computer..lol
I followed the directions here using the original BIOS from HP and a USB drive and it worked.
I want to know why a new BIOS version from HP website is bricking all these computers, they really should remove it from their site until its fixed.
Thanks again!!
PS. This was a HP - DV4-1117nr -
mine is presario r3000 and the bios file i got doesnt have .fd but .wph.
How to rewrite the file name? i have tried bios.wph, 08A0.bin, 08A0.wph, but no luck!
Any help will be appreciated. -
This might help you -> http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4305289&postcount=378 -
thanks a lot.. I have been trying that one today, but still no luck!!
-
Hi all! I want to tell you my experience and how I solved my problem. I have a HP COMPAQ PRESARIO C700 (C797EL) and I tried to recover the BIOS following 0.0's guide using various name over the one macakox suggested. I used original_name.fd, macakox_name.bin, first_four_digit.bin, first_four_digit.fd, last_four_digit.bin and last_four_digit.fd together, copied them on a usb stick, pressed win+b key, plugged in power and power on my NB bu still no luky. Since I didn't heard any beep and didn't seen any led on usb stick I decided to format as fat32 a old p-ata hard disk using an external HD-box, copied all that files on it and tried again with success.
Many thanks to all of you, boys! -
Hey guys, I have a HP dm3t-1000 notebook and I'm trying to flash the BIOS using a USBstick as this thread describes. I've tried both fat16 and fat32, and I've tried holding FN+esc and Win+B and neither seem to get the machine to try the usb stick. Any suggestions?
-
Does the dm3 have an Insyde BIOS?
-
I'm having the same problem. A black screen and blinking num lock and caps lock LED's. After an hour of turning on and off of my notebook, it booted normally. It can even restart normally. This was yesterday, but today when i tried to turn on my notebook, it's brick again with the LED's blinking again but this time even if I try to turn it on and off for a couple of times, it won't boot normally.
I tried the BIOS file that i downloaded for this link:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&dlc=en&cc=us&os=2093&product=3873043&lang=en
I renamed 30FBF36.FD to 30FB.BIN and 30F7.BIN and followed the steps. There were no beeping sounds and I waited for more than 5 minutes but still nothing happens.
My notebook is a Compaq Presario CQ40-310AU.
Any help will be very much appreciated. -
hello there, i need you help on my corrupt bios....
My machine's details are as ffs:
Model: G60-235DX
s/n: 2CE913618T
p/n: NB042UA#ABA
Have tried bios boot block can't seem to figure out the correct bios id.... -
I have a DV5-1178er, tried all possible combinations from the original bios to the Latest, but still nothing. The only one change when I use the WIN+B combination is that the caps lock, and the num lock leds are not on. I think it's a response, but still not reading the USB. Just a few blinkings just like when I start the laptop normally. I tried 3602.FD .BIN .ROM 3603.FD .BIN .ROM even QT6.extensions which is the model name described in PLATFORM.INI.
No results. PLS help... I'm dying seeing that it works for a lot of people, but not for me.
BTW: I tried with 1GB flash pen and 8GB in Fat and Fat32 and nothing.
Any ideeas...
PLS -
Try taking the file 3602 file and making a copy of it and renaming it 3602.BIN and 3603.BIN for the other copy (but identical files). Make sure you boot with the WinKey+B combination held down. It took me about 5 tried to finally get it.. just a timing issue. There is no reason why it shouldn't work for you as long as the lights are going on.
-
A problem you both may be having is that if you have windows set to hide file extensions then you wont actually be renaming the file properly.. you'll just be renaming it to 36xx.BIN.FD which will NOT work. -
o i have adifferent problem here , my problem is i cant upgrade my CQ60 bios though windows , it is stuck with the bios version F32
so i came i saw the thread and tried what was written here " hopefully that will fix it , but all what i can see is it beeps and beeps slow slow then faster faster beeps and then it turns off which means its worked well , when i turn it on and then go to the bios to check the verison ITS not upgrading its still stuck on F32 version not F52 i tired the earlier versions the same thing no luck , stuck with F32
my laptop is CQ60-211dx
any clues? -
But you're right! In windows it couldn't change the extension, but I've made it in TotalCommander. It certanly changed the extension.
I'll just keep on trying -
Hey all. Just wanted to pass on some info. My laptop is a HP DV7-1270us revison 30F4. There's a new update on the website that will brick you laptop, it did mine. Thank the fine folks here, I finally got it unbricked.
Follow the instrctions has posted earlier, win+B etc. but you'll need to get the origianal bios, F.21. Extract it, rename 30F4F210.FD to 30F3.BIN and flash. I was surprised it worked and happy about that.
Next, get back in to windows and used the new update, F.2C, extract it and rename 30F3F2C.FD to somehing else. I used 30F3F2C.FD.OLD. Run the flash s/w. I used the 64bit version cause I'm running Win 7 64bit Ult.
Make sure the ID's match, in my case the my ID's are 30F4.
For some reason it showed 30F4 and 30F3 the first time i flashed thus the brick.
I hope this helps whoever, nowhere on the net is this mentioned other than here and nobody here mentions the dv7 so here's more data for all the other HP's that have been bricked because of careless software....
Thanks all!!! -
my HP DV3T-2000 CTO got the same issue. I flashed wrong version (F.21 while old version is F.07). I downloaded wrong SoftPad file on HP website. I tried to do as instruction in these posts of topic. But when the led turn on. It has no activity seems that the USB stick is being read. Anyone can help me?
PS: I use Windows + B key combination to turn on BIOS Recovery mode.
Thank you. -
Hi guys!
I have a question..
Is this working for all Insyde bios ?
My acer 5810T had a bios failure after a bios update!
Pleaze help..i have it only one week and i'm so unhappy having it dead..
:'( -
Hi,
Just thought I'd thank you guys for providing such a good fix! I have a HP DV51009ea laptop which had a corrupted BIOS due to HP's ironic HP Health Care service.
I managed to fix mine by following the advice. I got the latest HP BIOS download (file name sp40066.exe) unpacked it and changed the names of the two .fd files in there from 3602F21.fd and 3603F21.fd to 3602.bin and 3603.bin as per the advice here. Notice I only changed the F21.fd part
I then followed the method on the first page and it worked! It took a little longer than stated (around 2mins) but it turned off and then I was able to use it again!
Thanks again, you've probably saved me the best part of £1000 as I was about to order a new MacBook Pro!
-
I can't believe that it worked for you!!! :cry:
I'm haveing the same problem with my DV5-1178er and I tried lots of methods, but I gave up because I saw that nobody replied with a dv5. I tought that it's not working on dv5, but now I'm confused. Could you explain me step by step please... I'm understanding the method, but what kind of USB pen drive did you use? how was it formatted? Did your laptop gave any kind of beep codes or something (maybe light blinking codes)? What was it doing when you turned it on before reparing it? It did something unusual when flashing from USB? During the whole process you saw USB pen drive activity? or just at the start? which USB port did you use?
I'm about to order a new motherboard on HP client service advice. But I'm sure that the mobo is ok. It's just the BIOS.
Could you help me please? -
Hello everybody,
I have a very similar situation only I'm not very sure about the term bricked. I had a very recent HP health update and it contained a BIOS update. After the updates were installed and I rebooted the system.. it turned on to be Extremely slow. (alt+ctrl+del gives me an error msg) I thought I got a Virus. After days and days of trying to figure out whats wrong with my notebook I landed on this website to find many have this problem in common.
I tried the thumb trick with the latest BIOS F.21 (unwise of me) which resulted in making my notebook's case worse and not work at all except for the LED lights; the screen is dead completely. My second try was to download F.16 and try again..which worked! Thanks to you. However, I'm back to square one again. Vista is up , screen is Okay, But everything is extremely slow. It was Flawless right before the Update. Now, I cant open two things at once..it looked like I had very little RAM. Which i also tried to check and found out that its 256mb while i have 4 gigs of ram in this system. What happened here!? Please help.
Notebook: Hp Pavilion dv5
Model # : dv5t-1100
p/n: KQ574AV
Board number according to system information is 3603
Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you very much in advance. -
Hi everyone I have this exact problem but on a toshiba laptop with Insyde bios.
I cant find any definitive answer on what buttons if any i should be pressing to enter CRM.
PO10210M.FD This is the bios file name i have tried many different names if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
Please help
Thanks -
I have the same problem with a brand new pavilion dv8. I tried to flash the bios in windows7 and the windows crashed. Now when I turn the laptop on I get a massage that the cooling fan (902) is not working and the laptop shuts down...
I am trying to reflash the bios using the recovery method (and i thank you for sharing the info) but it seems that I can not get the name of the bios file correctly. I do not know what my original bios name is but the file name is 7001F05.bin when I unpack the winflash app... I tried 7001.bin 7001.fd 7001f.bin, 7001f05.bin 6900-7020.bin and .fd. but with no luck. The plaform.ini file has this in it
[Platform_Check]
flag=2
PlatformName=7001
PlatformName2=
PlatformName3=
PlatformName4=
I am now kind of lost of what I should do....Any one have any suggestion?
Can someone help?
Funny part is that I didnt get to enjoy the laptop...1 hour after I got it (and waited 2 weeks for it to arrive)
