Please never flash BIOS using Windows unless there is no other way if you have to do it in safe mode.
Don't be lazy create a DOS Bootdisk to flash the BIOS Image a little trouble saves more trouble.

    My happy story.
Notebook HP Pavilion dv5-1179er - bricked, after trying to update BIOS via WinXP.
I will not describe the two days spent in a panic. I'll tell you just about solving the problem.
    1) Download from HP website a older version of BIOS F14 here: page, direct ftp link
    2) Unzip sp42557.exe to folder and see two FD's: 3602F14.fd and 3603F14.fd

Very Important: I remember, that InsydeFlash.exe displaying ID as 3603. And first 2 days I trying to flash 3603F14.fd renamed as 3603.BIN. Flashing process ends, (as described in 3th post) successfully. But system NOT BOOT: Cooler on, LEDs on, but display is off.
In desperation, I try to rename 3602F14.fd to 3603.BIN and flash it. Aaand... system boot successfully.

Therefore, the correct course of action is:
    3) Rename 3602F14.fd to 3603.BIN
    4) Format (under WinXP SP3 My PC -> Right Click on Flash Drive -> Format...) my 2Gb USB Flash Drive to FAT32.
    5) Copy only 3603.BIN to Flash Drive, and Safely unplug flash drive via windows system tray icon.
    6) Turn off the notebook. Remove the battery. Disconnect the AC cord.
    7) Insert USB Flash drive to USB-port located on right side of notebook, closest to the display.
    8) Hold down Win + B keys
    9) Connect the AC cord
    10) Turn on the notebook with the power button keeping hold down Win + B.
    11) Keep hold down Win + B up the first "beep", you should watch the some activity on the USB Flash Drive (flashing LED).
    12) Release all keys. Wait, and listen to a lot of beeps. The process of flashing can be detected on the high noise of the fan. The process of flashing is accompanied by 32 beeps. After the 32nd beep, notebook is still work about 2 seconds on and shutdowned without your help.
Total process time from turn on to automatic shutdown: about 5 minutes.
    13) Don't unplug USB Flash drive. Turn on the notebook with the power button.
Now I see standard screen with HP logo and "Press ESC to..." text. system boot successfully.
NOTE: Despite the fact that 3602F14.fd file was flashed, even now, BIOS shows Platform ID as: 3603. I don't know causes of this phenomenon, but the main thing is that a solution is found.

    Maaaaaan,

I have the same problem for about 1 month. (I have a 1178er) Now I'm at the work, but as soon as I get home, I'll try it. Oh man... I'm so excited. I think I'm going home right now... :D
Oh... BTW. 3603 is our laptops motherboard nr. I managed to find out that it has a QUINTEL 3603 motherboard. Of course not from HP assitents, because they said that he has no right to say it. Big Bulls...t. Their answear always was to send in the laptop and they will repair it for about 150Euro.

    Thanks DOLG,

I can't wait to see my beaty working

I've tried to rename the 30CC.fd ,30CC.BIN file but notebook looks like it wants a different file name

If anyone knows what file the notebook is looking, please help.

WPH - is not Insyde BIOS. It is the Phoenix bios, and to recovery it needed another sequence of actions.

Actions to recovery Phoenix BIOS. ONLY Phoenix.
    1) Download the Crysis disc
    2) You need a USB-flash drive. All the information on it erased. The size of preferably not more than 4GB, less is better.
    3) Extract the archive to any folder
    4) Download the archive with the BIOS for your notebook model from the HP site
    5) Extract from the archive with BIOS a binary .WPH file, It takes about 1 MB
    6) Copy it to the folder with the unpacked archive (at step 3). Inside that folder there should be no other folders. Only files.
    7) Rename the BIOS file to BIOS.wph
    8) Insert the USB-flash drive in the USB-port
    9) In the folder with unpacked archive (at step 3) run the file WINCRIS.EXE
    10) Dont touch any settings and just press Start. When formatting and writing process is done, close WINCRIS, shutdown your notebook.
    11) Remove the notebook battery and disconnect the AC cord. Connect USB flash drive to your NB, hold down Fn+Esc (or Win+B, try other keys), connect the AC cord and holding down Fn+Esc turn on your NB. Release all keys after 10-15 seconds after power on. Recovery process goes with a black screen, it can be detected by the readout indicator on a USB-flash drive. Recovery process lasts from 3 to 5 minutes. After the finishing recovery process, notebook restarts (or shutdown) automatically.

If the notebook does not respond to USB flash drive, try using the USB floppy drive. Also try to connect the USB flash drive (or USB FDD) to different USB ports.

    Sorry for offtopic.

    Hey guys
    I just recovered my DV3 2155MX!!! It's aliiiiive again ;P
(Damn! I am looking like a baby child. LOL)

    Well, I needed to create some folders and stuff to bring back my old bios after updated from Insyde BIOS F0.6 to F1.3A. A friend of mine helped a lot and found the link in HP forums with the folders I created;
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...Id=101&prodSeriesId=3688712&prodTypeId=321957

So... the old BIOS I just found in a chinese forum and used Google Translate Tools to read that
    http://bbs.bios.net.cn/viewthread.php?tid=75544

    AH! Almost forgot!
I put the old BIOS eather in \current, \previous and \(root) folders using the names 306D.FD [.BIN too] and 306E.FD [.BIN too].
Unfortunately the EXACT process can't be writed here, but I'll try to tell what I did to solve the issue.

    1) Remove battery and AC power cable;
    2) Holded *power button* for 20secs / it's the hard reset from HP forums;
    3) Plugged the pendrive with all files and those folders;
    4) Pressed and holded *WINKEY+B*
    5) Still holding *WINKEY+B* I plugged the AC power cable;
    6) Powered on the laptop;
    7) When laptop beeped I released the keys and waited...
    8) Firts boot I holded *F10* before power on the laptop again;
    9) Still no battery and... BOOTED OLD BIOS!

    Thank you all guys!
    0.0, macakox, iq-myst, dannyres, errodrigues, raj85... and specialy to my friend Marcos 'Mark' Saraiva and 落花剑影 (Falling-Ying) from BIOS.net.cn (;

I have the same problem on the DV8T. Just flashed last night to F.15E from F.12. The application exited mid erase/write. I rebooted and black screen. I have tried all sorts of combinations of "Win + B", "Fn + Esc" along with using a thumb drive with files 7001.bin and 7001F15.bin at the root and in "Hewlett-Packard/BIOS/current" and "Hewlett-Packard/BIOS/previous" and still nothing. My battery's removed, I remove power, hold power button for 30 seconds to hard reset, plug in the usb drive, hold the keys above, then plug in power and power on. I have even tried holding all 4 arrow keys while powering on and nothing.

I'm starting to think that the DV8T has a different set of keys to trigger bios recovery.

Has anyone else had these issues?

    Marc

PS: oh and HP tech support wants me to mail it back for 2 weeks. Sigh. Why cant they just tell me the bios recovery sequence?

I too have had the same issue with the Bios Flash from V12 to V15.E, with the Black Screen of Death.

I called HP Customer Support and spent 30-minutes trying to get them to tell me the Bios Recovery Mode trigger, and they intentionally have changed it and will not give out the information! That is extremely disappointing, as my only option is to send it in for repair, 10+ days - are they crazy???

Anyone know what the new Bios Recovery Mode trigger is for the dv8t? There is always one, so we just need to find out what it is. Does anyone know? Anyone here work at HP?? :) I'm ready to go with the Bios file on the USB drive when ready!

Thanks! Now it's becoming a personal challenge to solve this before the weekend is over. Please feel free to PM me if you don't want to post it on the forum. Thanks to everyone, I know we'll get it solved.

    FN+ESC?
    I used WINKEY+B.

Well, have you tried to use F10 to boot the rescue bios feature mode? (with that old bios file into \hewlett-packard\bios\previous and \)

Another point you could check is that file name searched from platform.ini.

FN+ESC is just another way to trigger bios recovery for some HP laptops. In fact I have found 3 ways looking through various documents.
    FN+ESC
    WINKEY + B
    All 4 Arrow Keys
Since HP has bought so many companies, its no wonder there are so many ways.

As for F10, That is an option that the BIOS has to start the system recovery process. Since my BIOS is erased I didnt even have that option as the system powers on to a powered off screen. Regardless, i tried holding it down while powering on the system, and it didnt work either.

    Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Hey guys, I could use some help. this might be a lnog post but i want to give you all the nifo at once.

I ahve a DV6-2064. I bought it in November in Canada but I'm in the carribean for the next 4 months.

I was using my computer as normal when it froze on me and wouldn't post on reboot. Instead the screen remains blank and the capslock & numlock lights flash twice every 5 seconds.

I read the steps and downloaded the most recent bios file which is 3635F04.fd. I looked in the platform.ini file and saw that it had several diff sets of numbers ranging from 3635 - 3539 & 363A. I made multiple file names using all 6 names and used 3 file extensions including .bin, .fd and .rom. That's about 18 diff file names,

I followed the instruction on page 1 and my cmoputer started beeping and whirring. 1 minute into the beeping the screen came alive with a message that my bios was being flashed.

I was pretty excited and happy. But upon rebooting, the laptop still wouldn't post and I still had a black screen and the flashing caplock & numlock key.

I went back tot he HP support website and fdownloaded an older version of the bios. I have placed the 18 variations of this bios on the flash drive but need to wait until I get home to try it out.

Any idea's as to why my system still won't post even though the flash was succesful?

maybe my bios chip is dead?

    thanks for the help.

WIN+B with the USB key in either port on the left-hand side.

It will scan the USB key and then flash the drive led amber and then nothing.

Ive tried it with the 7001f15 BIOS file renamed as 7001.bin, 7001.rom and bios.rom. And with the USB key formatted as FAT-16 and FAT-32, still no joy.

With the new Insyde BIOS the name of the firmware you want to emergency flash it important.
The emergency bootblock will flash only if the filename is correct.
You can get a clue of what is the file name by the default firmware name the of the OEM EFI.
    XXX x64.fd

That would not work for me...

My problem is that after the bios update, I get a message saying that the ecu fan is faulty even thow I can hear it working, and the lap shuts down.

About a month ago I got it to start scaning from the usb drive(without seeing the fan error screen) using a 3 key combo. I had to press the power until the hdd led comes on and then let go of the all the keys. My problem is that I forgot the combo. The Win+B does not work for me (DV8T-1000)

Okay guys if anyone can shed any light on whats going on id be greatly appreciative.
I have a Dv5 1046tx which HP health check advised me to upgrade the bios on to get rid of a volume control issue.
Of course i downloaded the insyde tool and proceeded to install version f.21, which appeared to go okay until it got to the end of the install at which time the laptop just kept getting the error message that it wasnt responding.
After this it did however restart of its own accord, and from then on it does power up on the second push of the power button, but shuts off for a few seconds then turns on continuously all with no screen or audible beeping. The scroll and caps lock buttons flash continuously during this time and when it is running continuously.
The inside flash version of f.21 was sp45138, on opening this with Winrar i have 2 files titled (3602f21.fd) and (3603f21.fd) respectively which i have tried unsuccessfully to get my lappy to read from my imation 2gb usb drive.
Have tried Fat 16 with many variations of these files (relabelling 3603f21.fd as 3603.bin or 3602.bin or 3603 as 3602 with no success. Ive tried holding win+b on boot as i plug in the usb drive, power and start button and ive tried fn+esc, but neither of these appear to access the usb stick. Is there generally no sound or beeps on startup until the usb stick is accessed? It does appear that the mute button is on so i am unclear of whether this is the cause.
Any advice or instruction would be welcomed as i go through this process with fat 32. The replacement for this motherboard comes from india and i was quoted today that the cost is $823.97+10% tax for a new board, or for a refurbished board it is about $700.
Hp do not give out or admit to having a recovery proceedure, so if anyone has any tricks , youd make me a very happy fella.
    Cheers Ron

I want tell my happy end story!

My notebook: HP Pavilion dv3 2110er.
I will try remove PCIEX white list for using new wireless card, edit bios by ezh20 and reflash with modified version. After that notebook not start and caps lock ( with num lock) blink 4 times.

On my other laptop i found this topic, read wery carefully all post, try everything. Nothing not help.
When i put file 306D.BIN ( 306D my motherboard id ) on USB flash drive, remove any power source then press WIN-B and plug AC and turn on laptop - only power button glow white. Led on USB flash drive not blink and fan not working. Nothing. I will try other names, other flash drives, nothing helped. :(

I decided to remove wifi card and when open case i saw small battery which save CMOS settings. I remove this battery and retry rescue bios.

    - Unplug all power source
    - insert usb flash drive with bios file name 306D.BIN (flash drive will formated in FAT16 by standart windows utilities )
    - plug in AC power
    - press WIN-B
    - press power button
    AND RESCUE START!
laptop beep one time, after 20 second they start beep every 2 second and after 1 min he turned off.

Then i press power button and ALL WORK FINE!

So if you can rescue bios by WIN-B try remove CMOS battery and try without it - It helped me!

p.s> Sorry for my bad English ;) And big thanks for this topic !!!

    YAHOO!!!!!!! :)

Hey guys, great forum! I was looking for prices on a mobo replacement for a tx2510us I got from a client for repairs. I stumbled with this thread and I was happy!
Thing is, I saw the post from Onzey about a tx2635ea. I have the same problem, the LED code indicates BIOS corruption. I downloaded the BIOS and followed your instructions. When I press Win+U I get two beeps and that's it. No indication of thumbdrive activity. I kept it going for almost an hour without no more beeps or reboots. I tried all 3 different USB ports. I formatted FAT32 and FAT16. I tried many different names for the files. I used 3 different thumbdrives and even tried with a 80Gb HDD formatted with fat32format connected via USB adapter. In none of the cases I got any sign of drive scanning or beeps except for the first ones. Tried also with fn+esc.
If I leave win+B pressed I get a repeat of the first two beeps almost immediately. I also managed to get an older bios version (f.0c) and got through the process with it.
Anyone has any ideas? maybe some silent reader got these laptops through the update process and knows what I might be doing wrong.
Thank you anyway for the sweet info! If this one doesn't work and I have to replace the mobo, maybe the next one will work ;)
    Cheers from Argentina!

A dv5-1040eb was bricked during biosupdate in windows 7.
I extracted the biosfiles from the setupfile with 7zip, it contained 2 biosfiles:
    • 3603F21.fd
    • 3602F21.fd
I formatted a 256MB USB stick in FAT.
I've renamed the 2 files to 3603 and 3602 with extensions .BIN, .ROM and .FD (mind the caps).

I've put the following renamed biosfiles on the usb stick:

    • 3603F21.FD
    • 3603.FD
    • 3603.ROM
    • 3603.BIN
    • 3602F21.FD
    • 3602.FD
    • 3602.ROM
    • 3602.BIN

I've put the usbstick in the usbport on the left side of the laptop. I did the following actions:

    1. Remove battery
    2. Open the the laptop and remove the RTC (CMOS) battery for 10minutes (Check your service guide)
    3. Reïnstall the RTC battery (leave the big battery out of the laptop)
    4. Plugin AC adapter
    5. Press winkey+ b and hold them
    6. Press the Power Button
    7. When the laptop beeps, release winkey+b
    8. The laptops keeps beeping
    9. After a few beeps it repeats one beep periodically (5sec interval)
    10. Remove the usb stick
    11. Wait -> the laptop wil turn itself off
    12. Restart the laptop, the bios is now restored.

    This revived the bricked laptop

A big thx to everybody in this thread

    Please follow on http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=479375
HP Pavillion DV8 (dv8-1090ev) USB Flash Drive BIOS Recovery
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
    6GB RAM

OK here goes nothing! Its a work in progress and i need some feedback.

Yesterday I see a BIOS update on HP Systems Messages on my beloved DV8.
I was not thinking at the time so just followed instructions closed all programs etc and clicked start to flash the BIOS and upgrade to F.21. Few minutes pass and my desktop is frozen with a error message "Out of memory blabla.. close few programs and retry"... but i never get my mouse and keyboard control to kill anything... So rebooted and now i see a black screen with message from BIOS stating that Cooling Fan is not running with error 902.

The fan is running fine... so now i try to flash the BIOS.

I Downloaded F.21 and F.17 BIOS images the only ones available...
If anyone has another version please message me

Extract them and find "7001F17.exe" and "Crisis_BIOS" folder containing "7001.bin" and for version 21 i get same structure.

I happen to have HP's USB Digital Drive so I am using that.

First Attempt with 7001.bin from F.17 version of BIOS copied from Crisis_BIOS folder to USB root

    1. Removed Laptop Battery
    2. Removed Laptop Power
    3. Did Hard Reset (Press n Hold Power Button for 5 to 30 seconds)
    4. Plug in USB drive in Left Port; Hold Win+B keys and Plug in the Power
    5. While holding Win+B key I pressed the Power Button
    6. After couple of seconds the USB is accessed and i can see activity
    7. 10 to 15 Loud Beeps I keep holding the Win+B key
    8. And laptop shutsdown
    9. I remove power and usb
    10. Plug in the power and press power
    11. Laptop turns on and shuts down
    12. I press power button again and it turns on to show me same message again Cooling Fan (902)

I repeat same steps with F.21 version and get same results only with different error code. Cooling Fan (908)

After reading a lot of forums i findout i should work with a xxx.FD file! So i check the 7001F17.exe and 7001F21.exe and find 7001F17.FD and 7001F21.FD files in their respective exez. Well the 7001.bin from Crisis_BIOS was exactly 2MB and the 7001F*.FD are exactly 2.5MB.

Anyway Next i findout the platform.ini lists PlatformName1=7001

Next I findout my Motherboard Part number 573758-001 but i cant understand what is my motherboard model!

I also find 7F0994 along with the part numbers.

Now i decided to name my files as following:
    573758.bin
    573758.fd
    573758.rom
    573758F21.bin
    573758F21.fd
    573758F21.rom
    7001.bin
    7001.fd
    7001.rom
    7001F21.bin
    7001F21.fd
    7001F21.rom
    7F0994.bin
    7F0994.fd
    7F0994.rom
    7F0994F21.bin
    7F0994F21.fd
    7F0994F21.rom

    AND

    573758.bin
    573758.fd
    573758.rom
    573758F17.bin
    573758F17.fd
    573758F17.rom
    7001.bin
    7001.fd
    7001.rom
    7001F17.bin
    7001F17.fd
    7001F17.rom
    7F0994.bin
    7F0994.fd
    7F0994.rom
    7F0994F17.bin
    7F0994F17.fd
    7F0994F17.rom

Now I have the files ready... BUT

When i followed the above steps with Win+B key my DV8 kept showing me the cooling fan error instead of reading the USB. Maybe there is a check on how many times you can use the Win+B key the easy way :(

So after another 10 hours i accidentally findout the revival of Win+B key!

    Here it is:

    1. Removed Laptop Battery
    2. Removed Laptop Power
    3. Did Hard Reset (Press n Hold Power Button for 5 to 30 seconds)
    4. Plug in USB drive in Left Port; Hold Win+B keys and Plug in the Power
    5. While holding Win+B key I pressed the Power Button AND KEPT IT PRESSED
    6. Laptop turns on and shutsdown, keep holding the Win+B key
    7. Press the power button down again and KEEP it pressed
    8. The power cycle turns quicker, keep the Win+B key pressed
    9. Press the power button down again and KEEP it pressed
    10. Do this 3 to 4 times.... with Win+B key pressed at all times
    11. on 5th time Just press the power button to let it turn on...dont keep it pressed
    12. And viola! it read the USB again...
    13. But!!!! No Go!
    14. For some reason it is not taking xx.FD files at all no matter what i do

    Now after another 6 hours...

    I use the link http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01670688&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodSeriesId=3688712&prodTypeId=321957
    to follow its steps:

    1. I created the folders as

    "\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\current"
    "\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\previous"

    2. Copied the files in both folders as well as root of USB

    3. I downloaded Copy As
Since i wanted to try files with all UPPERCASE! It Helps! :) Saved me a lot of time renaming 71 files.

Re-tried all the files again ... same steps but it reads the usb and doesnt want the 2.5MB xx.FD files... however it always responds to F.17/F.21 Crisis_BIOS folder version 7001.bin... goes through the beeps... but same thing....

So far I am stuck here...... I have one more trick up my sleeve lets see what happens...

If anyone has any more tricks that I should try please post here... EXPERTS please help...

I have a dv5 1170 ei laptop running vista business. I started the bios update (Winflash) from the hp website to the current version of bios F.21 A. The process took long like 30 minutes and at a certain point vista brought a blue screen of death.

How nice when am flashing the bios!!!! Apparently vista detected a harmful procedure that required the stop error.

Anyway I googled this problem and got some discouraging remarks (not from this forum, thank God, like it is very difficult to restore bios, take it back to HP (my warranty is out), It cost me 100 bucks etc, etc,

Luckily I bumped onto this thread that was really helpful.

I formatted my flash disk using the HP format tool, fat32, 500mb flash drive worked for me.

I downloaded original bios version (mine was vers F.OC. I had to confirm this from a similar laptop mode bought at the same time as mine) from hp site.

I ran the winflash application and ended up with a file 3602F0C.FD, which I renamed to 3603.BIN, and another copy named 3603.ROM. (Here I simply cancelled the winflash app after it had extracted the files. I knew this screen very well and was careful not to flash another laptop online!!!!!!!!!!!1)

How did I come up with 3603?
This is because my system board id is 3603, and I had earlier tried to use 3602.BIN AND 3602.ROM with no success.

The rest of the details I found in this forum and simply followed what is written.

I was glad to see the screen alive, I had tried this process almost five times with different file names.

From my experience with my laptop, simply use the original bios. I tried the latest bios version and it did not work.) I also think the system board id is also important, if you know it.

Thanks a lot. I never write posts but after the trauma of a dead laptop and the triumph of a useful forum, I was quite obliged,

Thanks you all who post on this forum, sorry if my post is unclear. it is the first!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need some suggestions, I have a hp tm2t-1000 cto notebook. I am trying to recover the bios with this F.07 BIOS package.

I have tried many different filenames, the bios image extracted from the hp site is named 3661F07.fd. The people that have successfully recovered the bios on this particular notebook used the filename 3661.bin with success. My problem is after holding down the windows+B keys with the usb drive inserted, it searches the drive for about 20 seconds and beeps once, then shuts down immediately. That happens when very little to one copies of the file are on the usb drive. When I try about 30+ filename combinations, after the 1 beep, it continues to search the drive for a varying time, the more files on the drive the longer it searches. But as soon as it is done looking, it shuts-down instantly. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I have no idea what to try next.

    Hi All,

    I have Pavilion tx2510us tablet.
Downloaded drivers and extracted them as discussed in prior posts BUT as with SELKNAM earlier, all I get is 2 beeps when I start the system with the Win + B procedure.

have tried most all of the procedures suggested on this thread...

    Any help much appreciated

There is a quick flicker on the USB drive when power comes on, but nothing else.

Obviously if it is not reading the USB drive, I am getting nowhere.

    Hi...

I have a HP ProBook 4710s and I'm stuck with broken BIOS. I'm trying to do what all of you are doing...
Downloaded BIOS from HP - LINK.
    I've found BIOS file in ROM.CAB > Rom.bin
Than I opened that Rom.bin file with Phoenix SLIC Mod and It showed to me this:
    "Recovery filenames are:
    HEWLETT-PACKARD\BIOS\CURRENT\68PZI.BIN
    HEWLETT-PACKARD\BIOS\CURRENT\68PZI.SUG"

I've tried making directories in USB drive and renamed Rom.bin to 68PZI.BIN, but no luck.

I don't know to what I need to rename Rom.bin to....

    PLEASE HELP... :(

    Thank you in advance...

Does anyone think this solution would work for a Toshiba Equium A60 with the same bios?
The machine dropped power during a bios upgrade - and yes the mains power supply was connected.
Afterwards, it will power on for a few seconds and does appear to do a seek on the CDROM drive - but then goes dead.
The PC is in pieces at the moment, as I was on the verge of dispatching the motherboard to have a new BIOS chip soldered on - wish I had found this thread first!
If there is a chance it would work, I will re-assemble, and give it a go.

    i3/i5 Compaq CQ41 and DV4 owner's note: this works!!

Confirmed working on a CQ41 using process below:

    1. rename the bios file to be 1409.bin and copy to a USB stick.
    2. Power off system, pull battery out, unplug AC lead.
    3. Hold WIN+B, insert AC lead, press power button.
    4. Touchpad LCD will go amber, nothing displayed on screen. USB will access intermittently after which there will be repeated beeps every 2 seconds during which I assume it's actually doing the flashing. When the beeps finish the system will poweroff. Power on and you're fully recovered :)

<strike>The important point which differs to the CQ45 instructions was to insert the AC lead while holding WIN+B. Prior to doing that the recovery wouldn't engage.</strike>

EDIT: My Bad. Instructions were correct.

Nando4, perhaps the wording on the front page is a little ambiguous.

    1. Disconnect the AC adapter
    2. Remove the battery
    3. Insert the USB thumb drive
    4. Hold down the keyboard windows key + 'B'
    5. Connect the AC adapter
    ...

Supposed to mean disconnecting and reconnecting the DC side of the AC adapter. Or maybe I have misunderstood what you are saying, seems the same method to me.

I did exactly same as it is mentioned on #3 and I was so happy my laptop was also responding in a same way.

I have HP Pavilion dv4-1020us Entertainment Notebook PC

I copied 30F7.bin into USB drive, inserted into any port, pressed Win+B, inserted AC cord and pressed Power button. I heard 2 beeps in few second interval. there was some activity on USB then laptop was rebooted after approx 1 min. This is how my laptop was expected to behave on successful bios repair. BUT...

Now The system started with no display and got shut down immediately (around 5 sec)
Started again and after few second the Num lock and Caps lock started blinking (1 blink per two seconds continuously as long as I kept my laptop on).

Now the system didn't detect USB drive anymore (with all these steps and key combinations like WIN+B)

any kind of help is much appreciated.
