    Having the blank screen, two flashing lights issue with my HP dv6-2164ca.

    from the dv5 series, sp42557.exe F.14 A
    I've tried 3603F14.FD copied as 3602.BIN, 3602.ROM, 3602.FD
    I've tried 3602F14.FD copied as 3603.BIN, 3602.ROM, 3602.FD

    from the dv6 series (2164ca), sp47531.exe F.13
    I've tried 3635F14.FD copied as 3635.BIN, 3635.ROM, 3635.FD
    I've tried 3635F14.FD copied as 3602.BIN, 3602.ROM, 3602.FD
    I've tried 3635F14.FD copied as 3603.BIN, 3602.ROM, 3602.FD

    I get as far as getting it to read the USB (lights up), beeps several times (about 2-10 times (depending on which files I tried), once every second), then the computer shuts off. When it starts back up, it does the same blank screen, two flashing lights.

    Am I using the wrong file? Which file should I be using?

    I have the files directly in the base of the FAT32 Flashdrive. Should they be in some folder?

    (also mentioning, AMD processor, using Insyde Bios)

    UPDATE: after visiting http://forums.mydigitallife.info/th...thod-Use-andy-s-tool-to-obtain-possible-names

    Having the blank screen, two flashing lights issue with my HP dv6-2164ca.

    PlatformName=3635
    PlatformName2=3636
    PlatformName3=3637
    PlatformName4=3638
    PlatformName5=3639
    PlatformName6=363A
    PlatformName7=
    PlatformName8=
    PlatformName9=

    from the dv6 series (2164ca), sp47531.exe F.13

    made copies of all 5-9 and A: 363*.BIN, 363*.FD, 363*.ROM, 363*HW.BIN, 363*HW.FD, 363*HW.ROM (36 files total)

    put them in the root folder of a FAT32 4GB USB Flash

    Did all the steps mentioned, and all was going well. The laptop beeped every second for about 10 seconds, then slowed to 1 beep about every 5 seconds for about 45 sec. Then it never turned off (like it should), it just went back to the initial error, doing 2 flashes.

    Under my battery says Rev: 3637 - 210, so I tried just the 3637 variations, but it only beeped a couple times and turned off.

    Anyone had success with dv6? Or see anything I'm doing wrong? Or do I just keep trying the same thing?

    PLease i have followed all the posts made in this thread in a bid to solve same problem with my HP pavilion DV4 2140us Entertainment Noteook. I checked the platform.ini file of the bios driver and this is what i obtained.

    [Platform_Check]
    flag=2
    PlatformName=3642
    PlatformName2=3643
    PlatformName3=3644
    PlatformName4=
    PlatformName5=
    PlatformName6=
    PlatformName7=
    PlatformName8=
    PlatformName9=

    So i am confused on which name to rename the bios file but then i have tried all the names like 3642, 3643, and 3644.bin and when i power the pc holding down the Win+B key it doesn't seem to read from the thumbdrive...though i am using a 1gb drive. what am i doing wrong plz......

    Wow this forum has helped so much thanks in Advance.

    I have a HP Pavillion DV6 -2010sa, with a corrupt BIOS, LEDSs blinking twice.

    I get my thumb drive to work, everything looks fine ....my laptop beeps every 12 seconds the light on my thumb drive flashing showing that its working... then after about a minute..the thumb drive stops flashing & there is no beeps. The laptop doesn't restart like its supposed too, it just shows the blinking LED`s as usual, i have tried different BIO`s versions but to no avail...

    If anyone has any ideas how to make this work it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    I wanted to express my gratitude to those that have established and further documented their successes... I have jumped to end to provide my success story.

    I attempted to winflash my friends BIOS, who has ask me to wipe/reinstall the OS. She had intended on gifting her old laptop to a friend battling cancer.

    So when I tried to flash the bios it just appeared to hang... not really sure what happened, but it appeared to be flashing for several hours.... After assuming something went wrong, I did what we are told to never do ... and pulled the plug ... sure enough, it was a brick from that point forward. After delivering the bad news and offering to replace it, I finally google something on the topic and ended up here!

    System
    HP DV4-1125nr

    After a few attempts at using F.12 and newer, I eventually decided to use f.04. It didn't work on my oldest thumbdrive of 1GB formatting under FAT, I tried same thumb with f.12 after also tried f.30...

    I had also previously used a 4GB drive formatted with FAT32 and used f.12, and everything seemed to work, it appeared to flash the bios and shutdown. When I rebooted though, nothing, it would just run, no display.

    I stumbled on the older and smaller 1GB drive later, but wasn't have any success. So grabbed the 4GB drive re-formatted it with FAT32, and tried the f.04 on it... I extracted all the files from the SP40621, and made a copy of the file 30F7F04.FD and renamed it 30F7.BIN.

    I installed the drive in the laptop (battery removed) and depressed the Windows Key + B before attaching the AC adapter. While holding down the Windows Key + B, I pressed the power button.

    Once it turned on, I released the Windows Key + B key. I went the same sequence as outline in the beginning of this thread, flashing the BIOS, indicated by the beeps every 1-2 seconds for a period of about 30+ seconds. Once it completed this time and shutdown and rebooted own it's own, and guess what happened .... I can at least hold my head high now when I return my friends laptop to them fully restored. Thank you again to all those involved in this thread--a true life saver!

    I'm trying to fix a laptop for a friend, and I think it might be bricked but maybe someone has an answer.

    I have the two blinking lights of doom so I followed the instructions on the first page for this model of laptop (HP G61 408CA) and renamed the .FD file as suggested.

    If I don't plug in the USB and do the windows+B thing, the laptop turns on (fans run and hard drive spins up) but still have the flashing numlock and capslock key in the two blink pattern (BIOS failure).

    If I do plug in a USB formatted in FAT32 and hold windows+B as it turns on, it beeps ~once per second for around 30 seconds then beeps four or five more times. After that it doesn't restart, the screen remains black and the two blink pattern remains.

    If I format the USB in FAT then it beeps four times at ~1Hz, then a couple more times later and the screen remains black with the two blink pattern.

    Is there any other way of flashing the BIOS, like from another computer or something like that? I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that I won't be able to fix it, but if there is another trick that someone has up their sleeve I'd be willing to try.

    I have similar problem with my hp dv6 6001tx.

    -There is no sound each time I reboot and it not auto shutdown.
    - I test with all possible name :F1B version, after unpack I got 01658.BIN, open file .ini I got

    [Platform_Check]
    Flag=3
    PlatformName1=1656
    PlatformName2=1657
    PlatformName3=1658
    PlatformName4=1659
    PlatformName5=165A
    PlatformName6=3581
    PlatformName7=3582
    PlatformName8=3583
    try all name: 01658, 1656, 1657, 1658, 1659, 165A, 3581, 3582, 3583, HP... with .BIN and FD extension => nothing happen

    finally, I open the back cover (slide left <=> right to open battery or ram, hardisk) and remove bios battery. Then hard reset (press power button 30s), put thumb driver in, ... press and hold <window> + and turn the power on. It works !!!

    hope this can save your day . good luck ^^

    Hi SUBJN,

    I have hp dm4 1024tx. I'd tried to udpate BIOS, which failed, thus corrupting it. Insyde is the worst software to update BIOS. I had downloaded the whole exe from hp website.

    I tried different ways mentioned in this thread. Nothing worked. Flash drive was detected. It was read but BIOS didn't come up. I'm saying this because led in flash drive used to glow.

    So, I tried your way(hard reset). Now flash drive is not recognized(LED in flash drive is not glowing), when trying the next step after hard reset.

    What do you think? Can anything be done?

    I used 64 bit version of the bios update software.

    Hi All,

    Thanks for all the information you guys have placed here.
    However non of the 23 pages seems to help me solve this thing...

    Here it is:
    A DV6-2110EA pavilion.
    Came with a broken fan, was working but made a hell of a noise.
    Fan ordered, replaced and within 3 weeks same noise..
    Took it apart to return the fan to the supplier, and placed back the old fan for the time being.
    After putting the laptop back together i booted and was welcomed by a black screen and blinking caps/numlock keys. The sequence is 2 blinks pause 2 blinks. (at some rare boots it just keeps blinking them)
    And yes, i took anti static precautions..

    Tried all the things that i found here in the forum, but it does not seem to want to read the usb stick.
    I used a 128mb stick, formatted at FAT and placed a lot of possible combinations with the file names.
    However the laptop does not even want to start reading the usb.
    Tried all the usb ports but same effect.

    Anything i can still try or is it time to start to order a new motherboard ??

    Greets
    Steven
    ps no the damn thing is not even mine but i feel responsible for it..

    *EDIT*

    Just wanted to add to this fiasco that after getting my notebook back from HP I updated everything except the bios. While at work yesterday I decided to update the Bios. I Flashed using the utility I downloaded from HPs site. The result was exactly the same. Blank Screen, back light and wifi light on, but no blinking Caps lock key until I removed all of the SSDs in the system. It then tried to boot from the flash drive with the HP UEFI recovery environment and then the caps lock key blinking 2 times started.

    I tried a lot of stuff and nothing worked. Finally I found a thread on HP's site explaining how to use the UEFI from a flash drive. Here is what you do:

    Instructions

    1.) Use 7zip to extract the files from the HP spxxxxx.exe. This is the bios update you downloaded from the HP site with the new bios.

    2.) Look in this folder for a file called platform.ini. Inside this file you will find a listing, near the top part of the file, that says [FDFile]. There will be either a set of numbers or numbers and letters that end in either .FD or .bin, maybe something else. You should be able to find a file by this name in the extracted folder.

    3.) Next you will go to HPs support and downloads page and download the UEFI support environment for your laptop or pc (they may all be the same or not I am not sure). Run this and choose to install it to USB. There are instructions on the HP website. It will need to be formatted either FAT or FAT32.

    4.a) The drive will now be called HP_TOOLS there will be a folder structure in here and you need to put the .bin or .FD file you found in step 2 into three different folders. The folder structure will be \Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\ and then there will be 3 folders Current, New, Previous. Put the file from step 2 into each of these folders.
    4.b) Full Disclosure - I copied the contents of the of the extracted folder from step one, all of it, into each of those folders and to the root of the flash drive, it should work without all of this but why waste time?

    5.) DO NOT BOOT holding the Bios flash key combo because it will likely not work. Instead insert the flash drive into a USB port and boot the machine while pressing the ESC key. This will activate the UEFI recovery environment and in my case I got a working screen that came with the message, Flashing Boot Block and a percent done indicator. It then finished in a few seconds and rebooted, working normally.

    *EDIT*

    I wanted to share my experience for those of you having some issues getting your computer to read the bios from a USB. I recently bought an HP Envy 4 Ultrabook and after installing my 2 8gb ram sticks it was extremely slow. A quick Google search revealed that the bios was out of date and the ram issue had been fixed in an update.

    I downloaded the bios update from HP's site and ran the program. It finished without errors and rebooted. When it rebooted it came up with a blank screen and nothing. The HDD lights flashed, power lights worked, and the wifi and keyboard back light indicator were on. I found this thread and tried to get it take the update the HP bios recovery environment loaded on a flash drive. Nothing would make it take the update.

    I had completely formatted both the msata and the hdd. I read up on the Insyde Bios stuff and found that in the event of a corrupted bios the boards are programmed to look for the UEFI recovery environment on the first HDD. Since it wasn't there it couldn't find it. My next step was to open the PC and remove the mSATA drive and unplug the HDD. This time when I plugged in the flash drive and held down the win + B key combination the PC instantly accessed the USB and flashed the bios.

    As far as the file that I used goes, just like the above poster there was no FD file, the xxxxx.bin file is the bios file. I read that it needed to be 4 numbers so what I did was renamed it minus the first number and another minus the last number and put the original file on the usb that was made using the HP UEFI download from their site. After making the USB the only drive the board could find, it worked without an issue.

    I hope this helps someone else who has this same issue. I will also add to this story that all of this started on January 1 as my wife and I were traveling to China for 3 weeks to visit her side of the family. I was a computer engineering major before changing to Computer Science and have a decent understanding of how hardware works. I realized what was going on after reading about how the board is programmed. No HP tech support guy is going to get you here. As an example I explained to a tech support guy via chat, while I was in China, what was going on, that the machine didn't boot. His first trouble shooting step for me was to go to the start menu, right click on computer, click on manage, and...you get where this is going. I was like, "I just told you the computer doesn't boot and I am chatting with you on a different computer." Needless to say I was not confident that they could help me. Anyway, unfortunately for me, there was a lot of static electricity in my wife's parents home and I didn't have my anti-static mat or wristband with me. While unplugging the mSATA and the HDD I assume I gave the board a shock, frying the CPU.

    After the BIOS update the machine still wouldn't boot and the CAPS lock key was blinking twice, indicating a CPU failure. I took the machine to HP Gold support in China and they tried to order the board to replace it but apparently that model computer isn't available in China and they were unable to order a replacement.

    I am not sure if the last boot order in the BIOS would effect the boards ability to find the UEFI recovery environment or not. It is possible that if you have the order set with USB first that you would not have to unplug the HDD to get it to find the USB. Of course this assumes that you have not already bricked your bios and that you can set the boot order as a precaution before you flash it.

    Hope this helps someone, I read about a couple of other people that had the same issue as me and it appears that they just gave up and sent it in for repairs.

    THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU

    I managed to fix my non working HP Probook 6550b notebook after having it out of commission for about 1 month and many sleepless nights.

    I have 19 years of IT experience and have NEVER EVER had such a complex issue in my life, and believe me Ive had many as a Systems Engineer. #shame on you you #hp #HP. There is no clear directions anywhere in your site, and your site were there are many HP "volunteers" helping, there is no good resources. But I still thank these volunteers who try to help because their employer has no policy towards good customer service.

    Notebook: HP Probook 6550b

    Bios was corrupted because the original partitions were formatted to suit my necessities, cmon its absurd HP expects users to leave personal electronics oem. Because of this the newest BIOS update failes after reboot. This is because it assumes the partition HP_TOOLS is intact.

    Downloaded many BIOS files because my BIOS update executable contains 2 and it doesn't explain which on is needed. After many many tries I figured it was 68CDE.BIN and 68CDE.sig. I got these to work by creating the USB disk by: downloading "HP BIOS Update UEFI " from my notebooks drivers download page and selecting to install to USB. This creates the correct structure directory on the USB drive.

    I then downloaded the original BIOS "Version: F.05 (29 Nov 2010)" and ran it ON A WORKING COMPUTER in order to extract the files. Once extracted I used 7zip to decompress 68CDE.CAB. I then had folder called 68CDE and inside it I had efibios.sig, Rom.bin, Rom.sig, ver.sig and ver.txt.

    Open ver.txt and look at the system name which is after _Rom_ 68CDE at the begining of the text file. Now rename efibios.sig to 68CDE.sig and Rom.bin to 68CDE.bin. never change the extension. My biggest confusion on other threads was that the never mentioned which bin file or sig file to rename specifically.

    Once renamed I copied these two files to the USB drive under the following directory
    H:\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current
    Your drive letter is probably going to be different so please dont reply asking were your H drive is lol

    I then took out the hard drive on my non working laptop and opened the cd tray to avoid the system trying to boot from these and pluged in my USB drive.

    I removed the battery to by the way

    windows + b combination never worked for me as I tried it like million times, im slightly exagerating of course. I simply turned on my computer with the USB key plugged in.

    The computer restarted by itself for the first time and it did so about 4 or 5 times.

    After about 45 seconds I got the HP Logo and the option to press Esc key to setup. Once I got this screen the laptop kept on restarting so I pressed ESC and the BIOS restored by itself.

    I then updated the BIOS to the most current BIOS F.07 version but NOTthe newest F.22 because this BIOS will break it again.

    Good luck guys with your task.

    currently i'm trying to reocver my CQ41-224TX(HD4350 ATI VGA) using above methods, it doesn't work.. no beeps AT ALL, no one minute silent "done"..

    i see USB activity but then it stops on the same time with a "thep" sound from the speaker, i assure you all, this laptop is never serviced nor i've ever reset the CMOS Battery.. i just update the bios, and due to bad RAM, it makes bluescreens during the update, and now my CQ41 is bricked..

    file names i had tried, 1409 and 140A, with no extensions and with these extensions : .fd .bin .rom..

    for more details :
    during normal boot : the laptop turns on, with a low speed fan
    during Win + B boot : the laptop turns on, with the max speed fan

    i've tried with both :
    - formatted FAT32 system
    - formatted DOS-Bootable system
    both are doing the same thing.. no difference at all..

    is there anyone have a solution for CQ41-224TX?
    thanks
