Remove battery and CMOS battery. Replug everything back in and test. If it doesn't startup then you have a bad flash requiring either HP to replace the systemboard as a warranty repair, or removing the flash bios chip and having it reprogrammed if it's no longer under warranty.

hoping it to work else Ill need to turn my system to hp support. :( no longer under warranty :(

It would be cheaper to just buy a replacement s/h board off ebay than go via HP OR use the circuitboard layout at the bottom of this page to identify the bios chip. There's $40 USB flashers available off ebay. Just need to unsolder the flash chip, reprogram then resolder back on.

Finally I was able to disassemble my dv4-1020us.

Text written on top of BIOS chip is:
    LFE8423
    DELTA0822W

I have no idea what these numbers are...

This is 16-pin chip. I tried finding compatible USB flashers on ebay as u suggested, but couldn't find it. Can you pls provide some ebay postings on such flasher that I can use???

    Hi All,
I am really thankful for the help you people have extended on this page.
Mine is Hp DV5-1095eo. I tried to update the Bios and in the end everything went dead on my laptop.
I followed all the steps given by 0.0, the by raj85 and the help which dannyres has provided. Everything went fine but was not able to get back the display. The last point which worked was the renaming the Original Bios 3602 to 3603. The version which worked in my case is F.0C, and for me and all of my friends it was unbelievable.
I am really thankful to all who contributed to this thread.
One more thing is that I copied the four files of this bios on my flash.

    1. Download the Bios version F.0C from

Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion dv5-1095eo Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
    2. Extract this file to a new folder.
    3. Rename the file 3602f0C.fd to 3603.fd
    4. Make 3 more copies of newly 3603.fd, and renamed them3603.bin, 3603.rom and the last was only 3603
    5. Copy all the four files on flash. The size of the flash should be as small as possible. Not more than 2 GB in my case.
    6. Remove the Battery, Power Plug and press start button for 30 seconds.
then bout your fingers on Windows and "B" and then press power button.
    7. Plug in the power cable. (If nothing happens then don't worry, you can just remove your finger from the power button and press that again because it takes some time to blink the lights on the laptop).
    8. After the fist beep, remove the fingers from windows+B, and listen the number of beeps, there were a lot . May be due to the number of files on the flash.
    9. After a long wait of 1 minute, it shuts down it self.
    10. Then restart the laptop. in a minute you will get the initial bios screen,
    asking for the settings.
    11. You can reset the the booting sequence if you like to. Otherwise no problem.
    12. What I did was that " I accepted the CMOS settings and restarted the laptop, and kept my pressing F11., for recovery and the my system was fully recovered.
That's it. It seems quite easy if you follow all the points by 0.0, raj85 and dannyres
But the difficult point to search for the Bios version and renaming it.
Again thanks to every one. Thanks Thanks.

I am having similar problems ...
I have a HP G72-a00 series notebook (HP G72-a55SF with Insyde BIOS, 17 inch display, 4GB mem and 500GB HDD, ATI Radeon 5470) and power was lost while upgrading the BIOS. I have tried almost all of the methods mentioned here.
In the beginning using the standard Win+B procedure would result in a unique continuous flashing of the CAPS LOCK key. But the flash drive does never seem to be read by the computer.
Later I tried clearing the CMOS and the CAPS LOCK flashing is totally gone. When starting the notebook, I am left with just a black screen with:
Fan Active, Wireless LED light on, Power LED light on.
Otherwise the laptop seems dead which ever way.

    Hi dudes!

I registred to me to the forum for two big reasons.

-First, because I can repair my HP DV5 with this post. Thank you very much!

-And the other reason because I have the same problem with a Compaq CQ10 120la.

For repair my DV5, I downloaded BIOS (sp45138.exe) and I extracted the .fd files with winrar. Later I put those files in a USB stick with many names (3602.fd, 3603.fd, 3602.rom, 3603.rom, 3602.bin, 3603.bin). Finally I pressed WinKey+B at startup.

In Compaq CQ10 I can´t extract o find .fd files :( Can you help me?

Appologize for my English. Thank you again.

I just rescued a DV7-1025nr using the thumbdrive method and I have some observations that might help the next guy with this model.

Because the latest bios update caused the problem I downloaded the previous one though that was not necessary it turns out.

The packed file had three bios files in it 30F3F25.FD, 30F4F250.FD & 30F4F251.FD.

Before you try anything know that The DV7 wants the second one 30F4F250.FD renamed to 30F3.BIN. Here's how I found out.

I tried duplicating and renaming all files to .bin and got six beeps and a click from the speaker which apparently meant that the file was not found, the flash drive flashed during each beep then the process started again
after the click and ran endlessly.

I turned off the laptop and renamed the frst file to 30F3.BIN and it began flashing it with the Windows+B powerup. Bios flashing on the DV7 is a beep after each portion of the file is written and there are 12 before the light on the flashdrive stops, then two more beeps and the system shuts down. But this is the wrong bios that I believe caused the problem in the first place. System came up with a black screen and all lights on.

So I did the counterintuitive thing knowing that only 30F3.BIN is recognized and written I renamed a file starting with 30F4 to 30F3.BIN and the first one worked!

Again The DV7 wants the file 30F4F250.FD renamed to 30F3.BIN.

The laptop lives! I wonder if the cause of all this was that the HP flash as downloaded is simply burning the wrong bios.

So glad I found this thread. Things were going great. I was on the last days of vacation and chose to fix a friends DV7 laptop that had a bad DC socket which required taking the entire laptop apart to fix. Did that with an online guide for disassembly and then as a finishing touch needed only to update the bios. Did that with the HP updater and it was a black screen from then on.

I called HP and they had me do the unplugged 20 second power switch hold-down and power up tapping F10 with no luck and nothing else. I was then told it needed a new motherboard with a cost of $300-$400, I got a ticket # and started searching the internet.

Now to contact HP again and ask them if it would have been a better story if they had been able to tell me how to rescue my own PC perhaps charging me a few bucks for the call? It was a year out of warrantee afterall. Instead they seem helpless telling me a new motherboard was needed, what a waste of resources.

Thanks to all responsible for this thread!

Howdy guys , this quite the useful thread.

Ive tried this method (win+b) to recover the bios for HP DV4-1220US and Compaq CQ40-320LA , both i believe share the same bios (found here Compaq Presario CQ40-300 Notebook PC series- WinFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS (with AMD Processor) ? Microsoft Windows Vista Based - Centro de Soporte HP para Empresas )

But using win+b altought it brings a certain state to the laptop (touch pad led turns red , instead of regular white) produces zero activity on thumb drives placed in any usb port and/or external usb floppy drives.

    Any suggestions?

I just did this fix for a friend of mine. HP Pavilion dv5.
Took a lot of tries but I finally made it work again.

The only working BIOS I tried was 3603F0C.FD

Renamed and put all (same) files on a 4Gb sandisk titanium
    3602F0C.FD
    3603F0C.FD
    3602.FD
    3603.FD
    3602.bin
    3603.bin
    3602.rom
    3603.rom
    3602
    3603

I do not know which file made it work but this is my way ;)

Thank you very much for sharing this BIOS-fix info!!

I read with interest Insyde Bios recovery threads.
I have an Acer Aspire 8930G which is giving start-up problems.
On bootup gets as far as "press F2 to access Insyde H2O bios" which doesnt
work.Same happens on bootup with powersupply or battery. No difference on removing, replacing the Hard Drive.Have checked, interchanged the RAM all
    to no effect.
Fan runs,no funny noises or smells,CineDash control panel is lit and semi-active.BlueTooth LED is lit and the RHS switch adjacent does not switch off
    or on....on all the time.
Does anyone have any experience with this machine?
Not been overclocked or modified in any way other than to add a second
SATA Hard drive (done several months ago so dont suspect this)
It is a great (and expensive) bit of kit.
Please advise.CD/DVD runs briefly, doesnt boot. Access LED on ThumbDrive USB flashes
Does anyone have service Info to open the case?
I was thinking along the lines of checking the internal connections etc
    and also the Bios battery.
I am new to the protocol on Forums and hope I have not trespassed into
incorrect areas. Please transfer to appropriate area if necessary

    Hello all!

I have an HP TX2500, and of course it does not start. Black screen, two continuous blinks indicating BIOS failure. I've tried all the tricks described I found, but no way. I downloaded different TX2500 BIOS, put them on a formatted FDD, with or without OS, change names, Windowskey+b or fn+b or..... no way. I've read lots of forums and found a lot of info which I've tried but I cannot start my laptop. Any help?

    Thank you!!

Hi guys, im new to this forum. I also have the same problem but I've got an AMD processor instead of an Intel. (model:dv6-2020sa) I did the steps like renaming the file and my laptop reads the file in the usb BUT after all the beeps and the LED in memory stick is not flashing anymore the computer doesnt shut down itself. I've already waiting for an hour and the laptop still won't shut downon its own (as you guys said it should shut down on its own after flashing) . Does this mean that the flashing wasnt successful?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi all,

Please help me, i bricked my HP DV9507tx and it wasnt my fault.

couple of months back my nvidia chipset got screwed and as it was out of warranty, i gave it for servicing and they changed motherboard and today i got my laptop, i was upgrading all drivers and found HP BIOS drivers were kind of outdated, so i selected the right BIOS F.5A from Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion dv9507tx Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

(Earlier it was F.58), after Phonix setup ran and it rebooted, screen is blank....i tried every step in this forum, but unable to recover, can someone please help me....

When i do Win key + B it keeps beeping, i counted its more than 40times and doesnt stop, i renamed file .WPH to BIN into all sort of names and extensions, its of no use...beep still goes..... can someone help me find the right file or right procedure to bring back the lost BIOS....pls help.

    Thanks

    hi,

i have problem with bios, after update (through offical channel) , and then restart
laptop just died, when is on - is just black screen

    HP elitebook 8540p
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52001-52500/sp52283.exe

i have tried all possible methods

    USB stick with
    Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\68CVD.BIN
    Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\68CVD.SIG
    SMC.BIN

    or with all caps lock
or with 68CVD.BIN and 68CVD.SIG in root folder

Laptop after i press windows key+B is restart (and one beep) after about 15-20 sec, then turn on again restart (but this time mostly dont read anything from usb, that step last about 5-10 seconds)
and after is turn on for third time, then is just running (one time several hours)

    after this step
i have tried to pull cable, shutdown, and then start, nothing

Resolved, after several days and countless number of methods and flashing

simple solution is that i downloaded first published bios from 2010 for this model: Link

    Steps are simple

    1. You need USB stick (FAT32, not bootable)

    2. Download from HP your bios update (extract them with win rar or 7z)
(then extract file from ROM package, rename Rom.bin and efibios.sig according to your number of bios - you can find them in ver.txt)

    3. Put files like this on USB
    Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\68CVD.BIN
    Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\68CVD.SIG
    SMC.BIN

3 Start Laptop and press Windows key + B (about 3-5sec)
When you see that something read data from USB release keys
(it's all about feeling when you need let off this keys, so probably you need to try several times)

4 After 1-2 minute laptop will restart and you get error (press enter)
    5. From this step further is all easy (your OS is booting :D)

I don't know why last two version of bios have not worked in this step, but first release have :D

(and latest version of bios just won't install, i have tried several methods, one time i have boot screen with success upgrade,
but after restart laptop is stuck for one hour, and then i just repeat restore which is described before)

Hello, desperately need help... I must have read this forum 100 times
My pc is a DV5 2155dx and is bricked.

All the lights come on when I press the Win+B and the USB light flashes and is read. That is not the problem.

The problem is finding the right bios for my laptop. When I read the forum, went to the hp site and download all bios for this laptop.

Problem is, after extraction I find file 01433.fd to my dismay. Afterall, I was expecting something like 3603***.fd so that I can rename it to 3603.bin and see the magic.

Like I said, I only end up with 01433.fd. What's worse is that even the other earlier versions of this laptop for bios contain that same folder 01433.fd

What do I do? Am stuck? Where do I get the right bios? What do I rename them too? Please helpzz

Thankyou in advance DV5 2155dx. Emergency

hey, can anyone help me with this laptop i have, its a compaq cq61-305sa

it has 2 bios releases 1 in 2009 and another in 2010 which i have tried both updates, neither work.

the problem i have is when i do the procedure, it beeps consecutively every 2 seconds for around 40 seconds, then stops, it doesnt restart, nothing happens, i have tried 3 different pen drives 8gb, 4gb and 256mb, the 256mb has a read indicator on it which tells me it reads up to the point of its last beep, then stops. i have left it running for 10minutes to see if it would reboot afterwards but it hasnt

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all, I have HP G60-443CL with dead bios... I manage to run recovery like this with some older version of bios provided from HP site for this notebook. After flash loud beeping laptop restarted automatically and after restart it was still dead.
After this I get newer version of bios from HP site but couldn't do anything because this time after 5 sec when AC power is plugged and turn on he just do restart and than power up with black screen. And worst thing is that key combination "win" + "B" doesn't do anything this time (fell like this), It looks like USB is not "pinged" at all and DVD drive light is flashing on beginning (i even tried to burn this bios files to CD but no luck)...

    Hello.

I have CQ43-200TU Which I bricked with whitelist firmware. Now it blinks caps lock on startup 2 times repeatedly. As I've read from HP website, this is bios error. Downloaded latest bios, it has 3 files inside, 03672.fd, 03674.fd, 03676.fd. According to Phoenix bios tool, they should be placed into Hewlett-packard\bios\current folder, extension changed to .bin I did so, placed them on flash drive, removed battery, ac adapter, pressed WIN+B, while holding it, press "power" and wait. According to flash drive led, I can see it's being accessed, but only for short time, and it does not depends, if I press WIN+B or not, it always tries to access the flash drive. I tried both all arrow keys and ctrl+esc combination - no luck with them too. What can I do?

Hi, I have HP 6730b NB and I have the same problem as you.
Can you help me? Where can I get SMC.BIN file?

As you told I should put files like this on USB

    Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\68PDD.BIN
    Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\68PDD.SIG
    SMC.BIN

I tried it without this file, it started to read data from USB, but nothing happens.

    Thanks

Hi all, I've been reading and it's great to know that a lot of members have been able to revive their laptops, something I would like to accomplish, hopefully, with your help.

I have a Presario CQ40-525LA running with Windows 7, the video was messed up and when I tried to update the drivers, I sptupidly installed the application HP offers, so that automaically can install updates for you. After an update, the laptop started to have problems with the VGA, sometimes it would go blank and others it would halt the machine completely or just reboot as if you had just reset it. Now when I turn the notebook on I get a blank screen but the machine boots perfectly, I can hear the Windows start up sound and the log off but I can't see sh** in the disply or the VGA, out (btw since I installed Win7 VGA oui it wouldn't work).

I've been trying to do the Win Key+B at startup except the lap has a new 500GB HD (someone partitioned the old one), so I have no system backup and I read in the HP web site that if you don't have the HP TOOLS partition the emergency flash won't work.

I've done exactly what it's been said in the thread: placed the file ver. F.55 in a usb renamed it went and got the oldest ver. F.33 A (unpacking, renaming various options, etc., and the computer goes straight to Windows, I removed the HD and nothing to indicate the flashing, no blinking led or beeping noise, usb flashes a little but then stops.

If some one can shed some light into how to flash the bios back to it's original state it would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards
    Lazermx

    Hello guys,
I have an Hp pavilion dv5 1250ev. I downloaded the bios update exe, unziped it and i found those 2 files "30F2F38.FD" and "3622F38.FD". I also looked at the platform file and i found those possible names "30F2, 3600, Croft 1.0, 3622" i put them all in a usb with extensions .bin, .fd, .rom, i've also tried several names and i came up with 65 diferrent files. But when i put the usb an i press win+b, my laptop does 2 beep sounds and nothing more... I also tried using a CD. I still think i havent found yet the correct filename...
    Please help me!!!!!!!!

Same thing here with dv5-1005el, I've tried a number of filenames and bios releases but no luck so far. When i power up the laptop the usb drive's led remains steady on and the two keyboard lights go on and off with a slow frequency (an handful of seconds on and another handful off) after a couple of long beeps, it looks like it can't read the thumb drive at all.
    I used 256MB and 1GB drives formatted in both fat16 and fat32.
Apo225 if you're still reading have you any chance of trying with an usb floppy disk reader?

Edit: it goes exactly the same way trying with win+B without pendrive plugged

    Hi all
My native language is Spanish and I do not speak or write English, so what you read is a translation, excused if the grammar is bad.
It happened the same problem of the failure of the bios. Following the advice of users who gave ideas and especially of 0.0 in the post of "09-29-2008, 03:30 AM" which explains how to rename files and with the support of the day raj85 07 - 07-2009, 11:44 AM on which platform parses the "ini" and shows how to call the update files, for example, in my case the computer is a 1022LA DV5 in which the last update is the F.38, and the file "ini" shows the following

    [Platform_Check]
    flag = 2
    1 PlatformName = 30F2
    2 PlatformName2 = 3600
    Croft PlatformName3 = 1.0
    PlatformName4 = 3622

The procedure is followed, and since the files are uncompressed, two files with extension. 30F2F38.FD FD and 3622F38.FD this case, what is done is to rename (the first. Fd) to 30F2. BIN, as shown in the first line of (1) and the second PlatformName 3600.ROM. as shown in the second line of (2) PlatformName.

Insert the memory and continue with the method described in this post.

Thank you all for your ideas :D

Does anyone know if it is possible to do this on a Compaq CQ61 or if there is a way to recover the bios. I tried downloading 3 different bios and copying the .fd file to usb and renaming it to bin and rom. I get the beeps to say its reading the usb key and then i get 1 beep every 10 secs for about 50 secs and then the laptop says powered on with the caps and num lock still blinking. Cheers for any help.
