Can somebody confirm that after upgrading CPU in this type of notebook, the Virtualization Technology enable/disable option in BIOS does or does not appers ?
For me it didn't apper after a successful T7250 upgrade, but I wonder what if I clear the CMOS by the RTC battery. Could that be a solution?

Is there only space for a single hard drive? The laptop is pretty compact.

i have a C768TU, it works fine till i try anything demanding graphics or processor 10 min usually and it shuts down. i took the back off and found the problem
    [IMG]
is this a known issue?, laptop is 13 months old, i was thinking of removing the heatsink, overbending and using a small blowtorch to see if it will curl back (metal memory) or should i just bend back to flat and re-install ?
this has only been an issue in the last two months

    cheers,
    tristan

I managed to drop my Presario c700 series twice within a week of purchase..luckily I only cracked the palm rests..I found a replacement palm top online and being that I am going to be taking this notebook apart anyways, I figured I would make some upgrades..Can anyone confirm what the max CPU is that can go in the C762N presario?

so i tried replacing the cpu in the c700 last night, it would not fit. the pins on cpu T2310 thats inside the c700 look like this [IMG]

and the pins on the t2300 that i have look like this. see the bottom right corner.

So since i couldn't replace the cpu i clean the thermal paste and put some AS5 on it, now the lappy idles at 42c, lowest I've see is 39c.

Right, T2300 is a Core Duo. Despite it having a higher fsb and more cache, rest assured that the T2310 you have in there now is way better.

Hi guys just wondering what motherboard the c700 use's? and has any1 upgraded a cpu higher than the stated compatible on the service manual?
the reason I'm asking is I have the a900 series but doesn't seem any1 tried a cpu upgrade on this model but the hardware between the 2 look very similar, Also any1 use the Intel® Chipset Identification Utility on there support page. When I use it it says I have the gm965 chipset but when I use cpuz ver1.52.2 tells me I have gl960? which 1 would be the most accurate... I can't see intel identifying there own chips incorrectly can they?

I have read through 1 to 11 of this thread... not sure where in the post lists the motherboard ver? not chipset as i know the c700 has the gm965, the reason I ask about the service manual is that with my stock cpu t2390 is not even listed on the compatibility list? also every1 here seems to use the 3rd party app cpuz and i haven't read any1 using the intel chipset id util to identify there chipset. But I have searched all over for info on A900 with no success, so I figured alot of manufacturers use the same components for there builds, mixing and matching on various models depending on low or highend builds. I know the c700 use the f.34 which is a award bios, so if I can match the model of motherboard then the a900 and c700 would share the same base component and chipset which gives me more of a higher chance of a t7700 or t9300 (penryn upgrade)

Just an update T8300 works fine istalled today and everythings all good. Thought i'd update as even though this is a c700 thread and mines a compaq a961tu a900 series there is absolutely no info for the a900 with any1 upgrading there cpu..... I figured that it would not be my hardware that would be restricting me but the bios that the manufacturer restricts. Luckly I stumbled accross this thread and noticed that my a900 had somthing in common with the c700 other than the hardware but the bios ver f.34 and every1 with the c700 had so much success with the upgrading to c2d and penryn cpu's. I had to take a chance as my old cpu t2390 core duo was getting to be abit of a hinderince on certain things I do on my lappy and toasty at times running 48c-50c on idle and 80c+ load with a generic notebook cooler!!!!!
now everythings more perky and idles at 29c and 40c+ load without notebook cooler, thats with everest stability test and temp reading not sure how accurate that is.
Thanks for all info don't think I would have tried upgrading if it wasn't for this forum.
    cheers

I upgraded my laptop c714nr with a T8300(fsb800) cpu, running great for 2 months already. cpu and laptop temperature is cooler than before.
one small cpu speedstep issue to note: my OS is win xp, using power profile "portable/laptop", the cpu is stock at 1.2ghz speed according to cpuz program. switch to "home/office" power profile, this cpu's speedstep work properly, cpu speed will vary according to workload automatically.

here i need some help. anyone one have found out what BIOS chip do this laptop's motherboard use? and where is it on motherboard?

just confirming that my laptop, a C700, well more specifically, the C751nr can be upgraded to a T8300, model SLAYQ.
Now it runs much cooler and much faster than the 1.6 ghz that it used to have.
I also upgraded the bios on it and i got the VRAM to go up to 384 MB from the 256 it used to have. ( i think ).
I had to install win xp to update the bios.

Looking right now for a way to change the touchpad to another model because i hate the one it has, will update if success is achieved.

So I know this is childs play to you guys, but the screen in my 717NR decided to take a crap on me and the bottom half of the screen freezes when I open it up. The picture is fine, no burnt pixels, cracks, etc....it just locks up like the bottom 1/3. I've got the damn thing torn apart, but I don't see a single matching part number w/ the TONS of screens listed on ebay.

Can anyone w/ some experience help me out here. I've already gotten screwed once by buying a used screen that the idiot put into literally a paper envelope and shipped it that way, so needless to say, the screen was destroyed in shipping. I've looked for my exact screen replacement on ebay using "717nr" in the keywords, but it even says in the listing that it's compatible w/ other units, so I don't wanna pay $20 more simply because the guy typed 717NR when I could get away w/ using an $80 replacement. Please help me out so I can make sure to order the correct replacement screen.

I'm looking at purchasing a P7450 processor. From my reasearch, it should fit, as it is a Socket P processor. Was wondering if the FSB would match up and if anyone else had tried this swap.

BTW, I have a C714NR. 2GB RAM, Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) with the original T2310 processor. There's a good deal on a used P7450 on Craigslist near me and was concerned about the 1066FSB being an issue (having read that the system can support up to 800FSB. Sadly, the chipset, according to both CPU-Z and Everest is the GL960 and I do have F.33 BIOS loaded. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Well, bought the P7450 for $40. Put it in, and it won't even post. So, it is not compatible. Put the T2310 back in, and here I am writing this.

    Greetings all,
After a couple of hours of reading, it looks like my A909US laptop is similar to the C700 series of laptops and uses the same F.34 Bios.

    My unit has a 17inch 1440x900 display running a T2330, 3GB RAM, 320GB HD, X3100 and uses the famous GL960 chipset.

Now... I am itching to upgrade the CPU to get a little extra pep out of the unit.

Screen is ordered. Since I've got my laptop split into two, where are you guys ordering these T8300's and is it a simple plug and play item? We've got two of these C717NR's and they always feel like they're on fire.

    This is what I have:
Compaq Presario C768CA(Sticker on Bottom) but Sticker on top right says C700

    According to CPU-Z
    Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2370 (Merom) Socket P (478) @ 1.73Ghz
    Chipset GL960
    Bios: F.34

Just like the previous poster, I'm wondering where people are buying their Processors? I look on Ebay and I saw anywhere from $150-$180

I live in Canada and haven't found any local source where I can get it from.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm hoping someone will help me.

So I got the new screen halfway installed since I wanna make sure it works before I completely put it back together. The screen is just a pure white. It will brighten and darken as XP boots up, but won't give me an actual image. If I run the laptop as a dual screen, meaning the laptop screen and using my Acer normal screen, the Acer shows just fine, but when I move the mouse of anything over to the laptops screen, nothing appears :( I'm at a los as to what I should do now...all you guys swapping ECU's, etc must be able to help me w/ my simple problem, please.

    My C700(p/n GY394AV) currently has a
    " Intel Pentium Dual-Core processor T2370 - 1.73GHz (Merom, 533MHz front side bus, 1024MB Level-2 cache per core, 65 nm process technology)

Would it be possible and even worth it to replace it with a
Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5500 - 1.83GHz (Merom, 667MHz front side bus, 2MB total Level-2 cache, 65 nm process technology)?

Thanks a lot for any help. I love this place.

Anyone? I have a broken DV9000 I took apart and have "upgraded" some of my C700's components. The Intel Wireless-N Wifi card works great and has way better range even though the C700 only has 2 antenna's.

I Went from 2GB of ram to 3GB.

I even replaced the horrible optical drive which came with my C700 with the bluray drive out of the DV9000.

I need some driver info if available. I have a Compag Presario 715CA. The hard drive died, the computor didn't even recognize there was a hard drive installed. I installed a new hard drive but with a Win 2000 operating system. The problem is the S3 Twister-K. Graphic Driver that is needed for my Video does not work on Windows 2000 but only on WinXP. I have not been able to find a driver for my video that will work on win 2000. Does anyone know of one that will work? I may be strange but I like Win2000 more than XP.

The service manual is easily findable on Google...

I've got a CPU upgrade question. My C700 came with the T2310 Core Duo processor. I just tried dropping in a T8100 Core 2 Duo processor I had handy, which I figured should work because according to the specs, some C700's came with these. However, the laptop wouldn't turn on with this processor installed. I switched back to the T2310 and everything was fine. Did I miss something obvious - like needing to change jumpers or something?

    Any help greatly appreciated!

I'd love to know as well. Just picked up a T6600 cheap on fleabay. The last c700 bios came out 09/25/08 and the t6600 was released in Jan '09 so I'm hoping HP did their homework but if not I'll give it a go in the wife's cq50. I'll give an update and let you know how it went in a week or so or whenever it gets here.

Just installed the T6600 and it was recognized correctly and works flawlessly using F.34 bios. Temps and battery life are both dramatically improved as expected. This scored a 5.7 in the wei while the T7500 which I had had in here, only pulled a 5.5. Guess the T6600s sse 4.1 trump the t7500s extra 2mb L2.

Does anyone know of any issues with Vista Service pack 2 and the presario C 700 series?
Windows update does not offer me SP2. Help from microsoft offers several reasons, but none seem to apply to me (SP1 installed, no missing updates, no hidden updates, etc).
They have a list of hardware that prevents SP2 availability, and on that list is the HP touchsmart IQ700 models of computers. (incompatibility with USB hardware on the mother board). I don't know if this might apply to my Presario C700. Any suggestions?

I have a c751nr. The specs say 2gb ram max. I have been running 3gb for over a year. I have 3 operating systems; 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04 with Linux kernal 2.6.32-24-generic with all updates, Window Vista 64bit with sp2 and all updates, and Mac OSX 10.5.7 32bit. When I swapped out a 1gb chip for a 2gb bringing the total to 4 this is what happens. Ubuntu- fine 4gb detected and usable. OSX- fine 4gb detected and usable. Windows- failed, blue screen of death flashes for a split second and states something about some file being corrupt, a new hardware installation error (check that its installed properly), the computer is shutting down to prevent damage and about reinserting the original installation disk, selecting language, and then choosing to repair the installation. When I follow this process, it never gets to the point of asking which language, instead I get BSOD and it actually freezes on the screen. Hope this information can help somebody help us figure out how to get 4gb in windows working.

I have a C771US, and found I could get 3GB's working if I put the 1GB stick in the lower slot, and the 2GB stick in the top slot. If I put it on the other way I got a BSOD.

I don't know how it worked the first time, but my keyboard doesn't work now in osx. I just went to the thrift store an picked up a usb keyboard for 10$. Been using that. It has a 8ft cord, and the buttons for command and whatnot are labled correctly so I don't have to remember which key is what, when I am learning photoshop shortcuts.

For wiw try the ps2 keyboard kernal extension.

Can anyone confirm or deny that one 4GB in one slot and nothing in the other will work? Someone's link to overclockers forums said that it would work. Also I have flashed the bios to F.34 and I still dont have an option to allocate more than 256 MB to video memory, is there another step I am missing? I have installed the latest x3100 and am running 32 bit windows 7 in a c717nr. CPU-Z says GL960 mobo chipset and 965 express for video chipset..
