    Hi everyone,

I am really close to ordering the v2000, but i have a couple questions for those who already own one. First, how "bad" is the video card? I plan on doing light gaming, nothing too intense. But how bad do 3d graphics look on it? Also, is it possible to upgrade/mod the video card later on if i decide to? Or is it "attached" to the motherboard and un-changeable? Is the dv1000 any better?

And regarding the appearance of it, is the top cover black or silver? On the pics on notebookreview.com, it looked dark-silverish. But someone in this forum said earlier that it was black? Which is it?

And lastly, have all of you experienced that problem with the dvd playback that was mentioned earlier in the forum?

Thanks so much for all the help!

I have ordered the V2000 but have not received it yet. My estimate shipping date is October 21st. I keep reading how HP ships other people's computer much much earlier than the est. shipping date, but my shipping date is nearing already & it's still not shipped yet [ :(]

Anyway, from all the info I have read, the V2000's top and bottom is black (too bad...I think it would look best if the entire thing was silver). And I believe you cannot upgrade the video card because it's attached to the motherboard.

Those questions I can answer you...the rest, you're have to wait for someone who has it.

I looked through the forums here today today and read that Compaq is coming out with a new 17" model, the X6000. It basically looks the same as the Compaq V2000 in appearance. I am wondering if I should contemplate returning my V2000 because I don't like the widescreen. I would prefer a more standard size screen, but the 17" sounds too big as well.

Do you think all the monitors are going to be widescreen within the next 2 years?

Hmmm. That's a tough question. TVs for instance are moving toward widescreen formats because of HDTV. A widescreen laptop with a high resolution and a TV card could benefit by being able to properly display the HDTV signal.

Widescreen is also usefull for many applications. For instance, simple programs like Word or email programs with multiple panes or tool boxes are a bit easier to work with (atleast in my estimation). DVDs are widescreen format so you get to see more of it on screen compared to a 4:3 (regular) display.

Hey Betty, in your case, you said this will be your only computer, so you might want to consider the 17 inch. This newer laptop will probably also have a dedicated graphics card, so your gaming experience can be more robust.

Seriously, if you aren't going to be moving this thing around, the 17inch laptop may be just the thing for you.

Do you have any idea or estimate of when the 17" inch might come out. The numberpad is also very useful for me because I can crunch numbers for work on my home computer as well. This weekend, I'm going to bring my V2000 to the computer store & computer with some other computers out there to see if I should consider getting the R3000.

Too bad the 17" isn't even announced yet & I don't wnat to wait til next year to buy a new computer!

I ordered a v2000 at 11/02/2004. HP sent it today, the estimated delivery date is 11/15/2004. It is now in Shanghai (based on the FedEx homepage).

    the configuration is:
    - Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2
    - Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor 710 (1.4 GHz)
    - 14.0" WXGA Widescreen (1280x768)
    - Intel(R) Extreme Graphics with productivity ports
    - 512MB DDR SDRAM (2x256MB)
    - FREE Upgrade from 40GB to 60GB 4200 RPM Hard Drive
    - DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
    - FREE Upgrade to Intel(R)Pro/Wireless 2200 802.11BG
    - Microsoft(R) Works/Money
    - 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

I will use it for office work, and for travel to conferences.

What is your advice for carrying case for this computer?

Ahh a case. Something I have been trying to figure out. I have had my dv1000 for well over a month now and it is allready TOTALY scrached up. So I really need something. The people at spire bags are super helpful and have a large variety of sizes. The problem is the 14" wide. Most wide stuff is for 15" wide powerbooks. I have found that the dv does not fit in such things.

If you find something let me know.

I just recevied my v2000. Immediately, I installed and tested COD and the game plays well on this machine. Not sure why everyone said this isn't a game machine. Well, at least I'm able to play good 3D game like COD and I'm very satisfy. Here is my configuration:

    - Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor 745 (1.8 GHz)
    - 14.0" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x768)
    - Intel(R) Extreme Graphics with productivity ports
    - 1.0GB DDR SDRAM (2x512MB)
    - 60 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
    - 4X DVD +/- RW/R & CD-RW Combo
    - Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200 802.11BG WLAN

    Hope this help.

I got my V2000 yesterday, and the right touchpad button is really loose. It still clicks fine, but there is a great deal of slack between it and the "actual" switch inside so its a bit shaky. The left button is fine though, with no slack at all. Anybody have this sort of problem with either buttons?

Also, I would like to know if the keyboard becomes a bit less stiff and clickety after being broken in for a bit, especially the space bar.

Anybody found a compact sleeve/case for their dv1000 or v2000? Looks like the spire vertical boot will work. The size S (for powerbook 15") seems to match the v2000 dimensions dead on. any other suggestions?

    Thanks!

I e-mailed the spire people and they said they are not sure and have not tested it. THe problem with the 2000/dv1K is that they are thick for their small size. They have free shipping so it cant hurt to try it out. PLEASE POST how it is.

The button SHOULD NOT be loose. Return it immediatly.
