Received my laptop today. Sending it back tomorrow. I'm not happy with the screen. It's a SEC and it's very dimm; specially after seeing the QDS screen.
This time I'll try to make sure they send me a QDS screen. I've read somewhere in here you can do that.
    I'll let you guys know.

FYI, my package was also released at the same time in Indianapolis last nite and they have already attempted a delivery at my door in Maryland by 9:49am. Of course, no one was at the door. I wonder if I will be able to pick it up at their facility by the end of today.

Once I get in, I will rip it apart and reassemble it with a different hard drive and leave the one they ship as a backup. I will also attempt to abuse the machine, like perform a 5-foot drop and do a coffee spill test at the keyboard. What else do you guys want me to test???

Just kidding man, hope you guys will get yours soon!

    It is a beauty.

FYI, I chose the matte screen..and it is made by QDS. Very bright, and non-reflective. Me likes :)

Got mine today -- despite the ridiculous 5 day hold up in customs, they were still within the 5-7 day shipping that I was promised.

HP dv2000t - C2D T5600, 512 Mb (for 5 mins, until I put the 1GB sticks sitting in my drawer into it) , 80 Gb, nVidia GeForce Go 7200, 14.1", LightScribe, WebCam

Yeh! It finally arrived. No dead pixels and I guess I got the QDC because this sucker is bright. It's small and light and suits my proclivity towards all things black. My only complaint is that I didn't receive my remote...what software mods are you all going to install?

Go to Device Manager -> Monitors -> Plug and Play Monitors -> Right click Properties 0 -> Details tab -> Select Device Instance Id from the drop down list. Look to see what the three letters are after DISPLAY\. Mine is a CMO that i got today and it's pretty bright. I don't know how it compares in quality to the QDC.

I was perfectly happy with my BrightView screen and almost didn't look to see who made it because what did I care -- it looks good. I checked just so I could tell all you guys and it's a CMO.

Received my unit around 9:30am today. I got a brightview CMO screen that seems much better than the SEC screen I saw in a store.

    My specs:
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7200
    Nvidia Geforce Go 7200
    2 GB RAM
    120 GB Hard Drive
    8x DVD+/- R/RW/RAM DL
    Intel A/B/G Wireless + Bluetooth
    Webcam
    Windows XP MCE 2005 w/remote

    You all know the rest.

First I created the obligatory restore DVDs, then removed all the HP bloatware, and finally ran a Windows update. 58 updates found!!! That is rediculous. Has HP not bothered adding any system updates since SP2 came out? As quickly as possible I moved on to the real fun... shrink the one large partition, create 2 new extended partitions, and install Vista RC1.

If you have a chance to try it, Vista RC1 (32-bit version) works great on the machine. (64-bit would likely work as well, but I wasn't sure which drivers would be included, and trying to install unapproved drivers in Vista x64 is an exercise in futility.) Aero Glass works great, but you'll need to get the latest modified Nvidia Vista drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com first. Most other drivers install fine right off the Vista CD. The card reader drivers, updated drivers for the webcam, quickplay, etc. can all be installed from their location in C:\SwSetup.

Also, the beta 2 technical refresh of Office 2007 was made available this morning. I installed that on both partitions. I highly recommend it, especially if you are installing Vista.

Anyway, back to playing. Glad most people got their systems and are (reasonably) happy.

It seems like the latest batch of lcds is made by CMO. I wonder how the CMO displays hold up to QDC? But I'm glad it's not SEC. I checked out a dv2000t at circuit city and the display was really bright, I figured it was a QDC, then I went over to check out the V3000t and it was really dim even at max brightness, so I guessed that was an SEC. My laptop will be arriving on the 20th and I hope to get a CMO or QDC.

w00t! My dv2000t wasn't scheduled for delivery until Monday, but it's on a truck being delivered right now!! This is why I like FedEx so much better than UPS. they will deliver early if they get the package in time, whereas UPS will hold the package til the specified delivery date, even if they have it ready to deliver.

Now if I only I can get a good screen on mine...

Obviously, the larger screen and more powerful grpahics adaptor in the dv6000 series would be nice, but to have a fairly powerful Vista machine in a nice small package definitely has its benefits. I'm working on a full review of my setup, including pics and Vista info. Hopefully it'll be done this weekend.

Well, I'm sending my laptop back today. For a moment I thought that maybe I should just keep it and forget about the whole 'screen issue' but the more I read about it the more decided I'm to return it. Obviously there is a big quality difference between the SEC screens and the rest. And I know that first hand because the first laptop I had was QDS and that sucker was bright.
I'm a reordering another one on monday and hopefully I'll get something other than the SEC screen. In any case, I'll just keep whatever I get because I'm getting tired of this whole thing.

I figured as much. Well, at least a lot of these newer C2D machines are showing up with the CMO screens, which seem to be fairly comparable to the QDS or AUO units.

jadedraverla, exactly which version of the nVidia driver from laptopvideo2go did you install? Did you refresh your scores on the Performance page and what did it score? I tried with 96.33 and with the 84.64 XP driver that the machines ship with, and I get bluescreens. So I'm stuck with the Standard VGA Adapter driver for now, which is no fun.

I ordered QDS for my DV6000t that will ship on 20th, God willing. I told the rep that if it's anything other than QDS I will return it, she said no problem. She added a note to my order of my request. I guess time will tell.

You get bluescreens with the 96.33 Vista driver under Vista? Are you running 32-bit or 64-bit Vista? That seems odd. The only thing I can suggest is that you make sure you have the right driver (32 or 64 bit) and try redownloading the updated inf file that correctly identifies the Go 7200 adaptor. One terrrible so-called feature of Vista is that it often doesn't actually overwrite files when you tell it to, so if you are attempting to do this from within Vista I would delete the inf file first and then downloading the modified one to the directory. Hope that helps.

For the record, I installed Vista RC1 build 5600 32-bit, and used the Nvidia 96.33 driver (for RC1) 32-bit version with the modified inf available from laptoplogic2go. Everything installed smoothly on my machine.

The performance page shows some fairly dismal results even after updating the driver. Though the processor and memory scored are very high, the graphics score is only 2.3 and the gaming graphics score is only 2.6. Still it works great with Aero Glass turned on, and I've been running several games within Vista and they all seem to be fine.

It's called a bait and switch show one quality of monitor at a store and send another one.

Don't let them get away with this.... Call HP Support and tell them you are returning the laptop because of the SEC lcd screen.

That's like test driving a car with expensive tires and the ride is nice and smooth. When you get the car delivered they put in cheaper rougher tires.... They cant do that...

    jadedraverla,

Are you able to get QP running along side with Vista? Right now, I can't even playback video without QP freezing on me. Also, I tried to install HPQPDP, but it gave me an error. I left about 1.1 Gb of partition, and it still doesn't seem to go through. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Oh! One more thing. You have to install the drivers from the Audio folder to get the built-in microphone working. However, I feel that the microphone volume is lower in Vista than in Xp. Does anyone with Vista RC1 installed experience the same situation?

Ultimately, Vista runs very well on DV2000t (minus QP)

LOL, NewHPUser, yeah I figured that's what you meant. Speaking of battery, DV2000t with C2D maxed out a little over 2 hours (Wireless on, and medium brightness).

I think that Vista Aero really sucks away some battery life at much faster rate. Thankfully, if you choose the right power profile, Vista will disable Aero in battery mode automatically, and re-enable whenever AC power takes over.

I'm assuming you are referring to the Quickplay boot partition, not the quickplay Windows program. Personally, I don't really care to use either, but the Windows program seems to install and run fine in Vista for me. The partition, however, does not. I believe that HP has the Quickplay partition setup in a way that it only works under VERY limited circumstances (must be the second partition, etc, and likely won't work with Vista's boot loader). I would assume once Vista is released HP will be releasing an updated version of Quickplay to work with Vista.

Yeah, Vista battery life, as of RC1, pretty well sucks. I also got a little over two hours, but that was with wireless on, surfing, downloading, and constantly copying files to the hard drive from DVDs. That was with the system set on balanced settings. As you said, there is also a max battery setting, that disables the desktop composition engine (and Aero Glass along with it) but it looks so bad I hate to use it. Hopefully HP will address this with more refined power settings once Vista is released.

I'm gonna go pick it up tomorrow after school! I ordered C2D 1.83, XP pro, 80G HD, 8x DVD+/- R/RW (dbl layer), 2GB RAM, brightview, nvidia 7200, Imprint+mic+webcam, intel wireless a/b/g + bluetooth, 6 cell battery. I paid $1331.43 for it. My first laptop and I think I did well (I was shooting for something under 15.4" and $1500 before tax). I've been lurking on this forum to get info before purchasing, I appreciate everybodys input.

For the QP Windows program, it doesn't run smoothly on Vista RC1 either. I mean it would run, but can't playback any DVDs..worse, when I try to close it, it stops responding...so pretty much, every time I run it, I get nothing but troubles under Vista.

So in my case, QP doesn't work as a Windows program..and it doesn't work as a boot partition either. Very crappy program indeed.

I wasn't initially too concerned about what screen I ended up with but now I am beyond pleased that I got the QDS. I am noticing colors, even on this forum screen, that I wasn't able to see on my old Toshiba. Some colors almost look TOO vibrant, LOL! I am liking my DV2000T alot! Now I just have to move all my "important" files over... although I sometimes wonder if I would miss anything from my old computer.

Fellow dv2000t/core 2 duo owners: HP has some promotions this week for free RAM upgrade, hard drive upgrade that make the pricing better than when we purchased; I just called HP and got $85 credited back as they have a 30 day low price guarantee! So essentially I got my extra 6 cell battery free!

I'll call them tonight! Does anyone happen to have a link to this low price guarantee of HP's?

EDIT: Also, does anyone remember what the upgrade price for 1GB of RAM and the 80GB HDD was when everyone ordered initially?
