Oh, you meant the 30 day price guarantee. My bad.

I'm not sure if they have a page on that (Googled, but nothing found on my end; doesn't mean it doesn't exist), but call 'em up and ask that since it's within 30 days, you'd like to get a rebate on the stuff that's on sale or free for CTO notebooks right now.

I haven't dealt with HP on this type of thing before, but since they have a 30 day price back guarantee (or so people have said), I'm sure mentioning it will work. Just have all your info ready when you call, like s/n, order number, etc.

    Price protection policy
The HP Home & Home Office Store reserves the right to change prices at any time. Should we lower the price of the product you purchased, you may call 1-888-999-4747 within 30 days of receiving your order to request a credit for the difference between the price you paid and the current HP Home & Home Office Store selling price. This policy excludes mail-in rebates.

On the HP shopping website, click on order status and then on your order number. You will see this paragraph at the bottom.

Oh, and I also configured another computer identical to the one I received and added it to my cart so that the rep could see it. I also had to point out that both computers had instant savings because they originally tried to say the price was the same. I didn't get a refund of sales tax, but I wasn't going to complain too much... I was happy with any refund!

does anyone know what the upgrade cost of the 80GB HDD and 1 GB of RAM were before they went on sale? I'm looking for the "+$xx" above the base 40Gb drive and 512 MB of RAM respectively. This could be useful when ensuring that you get your full rebate.

Just configure another computer identical to yours and ask for the difference. I don't recall what the upgrade costs were, and I'm not sure it really matters that much to HP as they are looking at the bottom line cost.

I went through a situation like this before. They will configure a system just like the one you bought and refund you the difference.

Hurry up before it's too late. :)

    Non-SEC laptop Update:
For the people who is following my saga of trying to buy a laptop with a good LCD (No SEC): I returned my laptop (with the SEC LCD) on friday (9/15) and got my money back yesterday (monday 09/18). I've placed my new order yesterday as well and now I'm just waiting for the laptop to arrive. Hopefully this time I won't get a SEC screen. I called numerous times to HP sales trying to place my order through them but they all told me that they couldn't guarantee me which LCD i would get so I placed my order online.

For those of you who have your dv2000t, can you tell me what you think of the overall build quality of the notebook? I looked at it in Bestbuy today but it was difficult to judge whether or not it would be able to withstand being shoved in my backpack and carted to school everyday. The screen looked a little flimsy and warped the colours when you pressed on the back of the lid.

I have an IBM thinkpad a22m that could probably survive a fall down the stairs. I use it a ton and it still works like a charm.

What do you think of the dv2000t? Would it survive a student's everyday abuse for 4+ years?

Even though the base price of the dv2000t has dropped i'm not so sure it's cheaper then when i ordered a couple of weeks ago. I just configured one again and it looks to be more because now you have to pay $50 for the DVD burner and $25 for the Brightview screen. It would cost me $151 more to order one now because i used a $200 coupon then which gave me another $100 off. That doesn't count the student discount i got as well as the $50 credit for it being delayed ither.

Hi, I got mine rexently and was wonder why every one hates the SEC screen. It was a little bit dim at fist but after messing around with brightness and gamma and stuff i think it looks great.

Acornah...I think the dv2000 would be just fine for student abuse, if u don't mind seeing fingerprints on the lid. I can't stand the smudges my fingers make...I constantly wipe it, and then smile when I see how beautiful it looks when it's clean :)

Hey folks, I've just received a 10% off coupon code from HP for a purchase over $50. I think this applies a discount after the $100 instant saving and $50 rebate so you'll save +/-$100. This is a one time code so if you're not buying a dv2000, be generous and leave it to someone who is.
    code: 632972618 expires 10/31/06
    Enjoy

It's not just brightness, it's the "grainy" or "sparkle" look that bothers most people.

I wanted to get Media Center and a 40gb hard drive with my dv2000 so that I could put in an aftermarket HD when the laptop arrived. When I tried to purchase the laptop online it says that you must have a 80gb hard drive for media center. I called in to HP to see if they would override the internet control and when I talked to a rep she asked her manager if she could just give me a free upgrade to an 80gb hard drive in order to keep my business. I ended up getting a free upgrade to the 80 gb hd so if you are looking to do the same, I would suggest calling HP to place your order. Theres a good chance they will upgrade you for free.

Hi everyone! I am brand new on this forum so please exuse any annoying questions i might ask.

I order my DV2000 on the 18th and it's supposed to ship on the 26th (SO long!)

anyway reading this forum made me worry about the screen. How do I check which one my laptop has once i get it?

another thing that kind of upset me. I asked my dad to pay for the laptop through his credit card but now i realized i could've used the student discount. Do you think theirs anyway i can get a refund without reordering?

    Thanks

Just call them up and tell them that your APP discount did not apply. That happened to me and they promised to issue the credit once the computer shipped; sure enough, as soon as the order status screen showed order shipped, the credit was applied also.

The problem with that is that i made the account on the HP website on my dad's name thinking it would be easier since the credit card is on his name also. How does my educational discount get into that picture? Can he say that he bought the computer for his son and get the discount? I already made a seperate account in my name that let's me have the discount.

I would call and talk to them about it. Chances are they will just refund you the difference rather than have you cancel/reorder.
