Does anyone know how much battery life you get out of the 12 cell or the high capacity 6 cell? Also, is the GeForce Go 7200 worth the extra cost, and how much does it effect battery life and heat?

I just ordered a dv2000t from HP's website a few days ago, and I'm wondering whether I made the right choice in getting the T7200 CPU...I'm looking forward to the performance, but battery life is very important to me. So I'm wondering, does the T7200 hurt battery life compared to one of the lower-clocked Core 2 Duos?
-
-
So I did end up buying a dv2000t with vista home premium. The computer doesn't seem to come with a hard copy of the OS though, so how would I go about doing a clean install of the OS? cause the recovery cds they provide you with are still loaded with bloatware right?
-
It's all on a recovery partition which can be accessed from the start menu. You can burn it all off on to disks though.
-
the recovery partition is JUST the os? no other bloatware?

Hey all,
I purchased my dv2000t cto in august '06. I installed vista ultimate in feb '07. I have the xp restore disks that came with the laptop (i burned them). Is there a way to get vista restore disks from HP if you can prove you own vista?
I know there will be some driver issues (sound card), but I'd like all the hp total care software installed like new and just fix the sound driver. When i've downloaded the vista total care stuff, it never includes everything. For example, While i have the hp vista customized help window, I can't find the hp dashboard anywhere...
Any Ideas? -
And there's the rub. Depending on how the restore DVDs work (ie. standard Vista install or speciallized HP image system), the product key from your retail version of Vista may not be accepted by HP's restore DVDs, since they expect a specialized HP OEM license. There also could be issues with the HP BIOS-based activation system on their versions of Vista.
Despite these potential problems, a few users here have recently ordered DVD sets to see if they would work in the way you are describing. I would imagine within the next few weeks we'll know whether or not this method works. -

I'm seriously considering buying a dv2000t and am looking at getting the configuration described below through HP's website with the $200 off coupon. I just wanted to get all of you current dv2000t owners' opinion on the configuration and whether certain upgrades are worth it for the price, etc.
My concerns are particularly with which processor speed (Core 2 Duo 1.6GB or 1.83GB), battery (6 cell or high capacity 6 cell), RAM (people have been telling me you need 2GB to run Vista well), and the wireless card (there's one that's more expensive than the one I chose. Is the other one much better?).

The price comes out to $1073.99 - $200 coupon = $873.99, not including tax and recycling fee. -
you can get the T5600 with all the same specs you listed + bluetooth - (webcam) for $1084.99 before the coupon.
Check your configuration again, something is coming out too expensive. -
What do you do with the bluetooth? -
I would get the T5600 for the same price, it has 64-bit support and VT. It's a real Core 2 Duo without any cut corners. The T5200 and T2200 are lower end CPUs that are missing some features that are not essential.
Bluetooth is useful to connect to phones and mice. I have a Logitech V270 bluetooth mouse that I use all the time. -

Hi guys.
I'm Gerol. Today my dv2000t arrived and this is my first laptop.
Today I have encountered many problems such as:
1. After the welcome screen theres a blackout thats very visible with some white lines. (is it a Vista problem or the hardware's?)
2. Some of my CDs are encountering errors when viewing. as in the explorer is malfunctioning and terminating.
3. Is the 2 mouse buttons are not balanced (the right one is higher than the left)
Please answer my questions. I'm very sorry because I'm just a starter in laptops and I really need your help. -
Hi there, new poster to the forum here (so please be gentle)!
I ordered my dv2000t on 4/17 it is supposed to ship 4/25.
Reading through some previous posts it looks like some of you have had problems with using iTunes on your dv2000t notebooks.
My question is, is this problem still happening? (and I know some of you have stated iTunes sucks period, that aside pleaseI am probably going to use iTunes nevertheless) There was some talk about this "skipping" problem going away once the new version was put into use, so I am hoping some of you have found this to be true. I plan on using iTunes a lot, so I am hoping for some new insight? (btw, this is my very first notebook purchased--I am trying to quit using my work IBM Thinkpad for my personal use!)
Thank you for your help--this forum has been really informative so far, and I look forward to reading in the future once mine gets here!
specs on order:
* Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
* Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T5600(1.83GHz/2MB L2Cache)
* 14.1" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
* 128MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7200
* HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
* $50 off upgrade from 1GB (2 Dimm) to 2GB (2 Dimm)!
* FREE Upgrade from 80GB 5400RPM to 120GB 5400RPM !!
* FREE Upgrade: 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
* Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
* No TV Tuner w/remote control
* 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
* Microsoft(R) Works 8.0
And sadly, I missed the $200 instant savings coupon (despite many phone calls to HP) however, with the EPP account set up by one of the reps and a $10 off coupon, I am pretty happy with my purchase price.
thanks again! -
kellyd13 -- welcome to the boards! Nice system config, by the way. You shold enjoy the system.
I use iTunes all the time on my dv2000t. You shouldn't have any problems... just be sure to use the latest version. It fixes the vast majority of issues with Vista. -
When do you guys think a $200 off coupon will show again?
-
my dv2301 can`t type question mark
if I get to question mark symbol I got this symbol --> É
is it keyboard layout problem? I hope it is not hardware problem?

Anyone already test Windows XP x64 on DV2000T?
share it please
thx -
Go to Control Panel --> Regional and Language Options. Make sure current format shows English (United States). Click on the Keyboards and Languages tab, then click "change keyboards". Make sure it shows "English (United States) - US" as the default input language. If it's not, click on "Add..." and then select "English (United States) --> "Keyboard" --> "US (Default)." Click OK and you should now have two languages installed. You can go ahead and uninstall whatever the incorrect keyboard language was, leaving only the new default language.
That should take care of it. If not, post again.
It shouldn't be TOO tough, though.
What you'll need:
1. An Nvidia video driver for XP x64 ( www.laptopvideo2go.com can help there) -- only if you have the GeForce Go 7200 option
2. Any drivers posted to the XP x64 section of HP's download page for your machine -- be certain to get the Microsoft UAA driver from there!
3. Any other drivers you need you "should" be able to get from the Vista x64 section. Most all of those drivers (except graphics) are also compatible with XP x64. The only driver that I would wonder about is the webcam driver, as the Vista driver for that is really oddly designed, and may have installation problems.
Then, back everything up that you need, and reboot into the BIOS. You'll need to turn off "Native SATA support" as you would a regular XP 32-bit installation, unless you are "slipstreaming" the drivers using Nlite or something.
Boot to the XP x64 CD and you should be able to install without issue. Then just install the drivers you downloaded earlier -- making sure to install the Microsoft UAA driver BEFORE trying to install the audio driver -- and you should have a functioning x64 system.
If any driver gives you problems, it's likely caused by HP's "setup" program. You can avoide using that altogether by using WinRAR to extract the sp#####.exe files to their own directory, and installing them from there.
If you go for it, let us know how it goes. I am very partial to XP x64 -- it's rock solid stable, based on the Server 2003 codebase, and just got a new service pack a couple of weeks ago. -
JadedRaver--Great news about iTunes, thanks for your help! I am really looking forward to getting the system. However, I don't want to be TOO anxious because looking through some other posts in other threads, it looks as if a couple of dv2000t may have suffered from "poor assembly."
Does anyone think that may have had anything to do with the HUGE number or recent orders due to that blasted coupon? And the quick turn around expected of these orders? And the impatience of people like me who refresh every other second to see if the status of their order has been changed? I think at this point I will just stop obsessing over the time it takes and hope for a happy and healthy build and deliveryOr TRY to be patient at least.
Also, quick question about getting rid of the "bloatware" everyone speaks of. Can I just uninstall the stuff or do you need to do a reinstall of vista or....? Sorry I have no idea! I am sure this has been covered somewhere, so if you want to just point me to a thread that would be great.
Thanks again everyone! -
General Liederkranz Notebook Enthusiast
kellyd13, I was in exactly the same situation checking order status every few minutes.
If it makes you feel any better, mine has no build problems.
For advice on a clean install, check out this thread. I found the link in post #9 especially useful. -
After using vista a few month, i think i'm going to downgrade to windows XP, and still reviewing which one XP to use, 32 bit or 64 bit for my Core 2 Duo (DV2000T),which one better? i am going to use it for modeling
But so far i couldn't find much information review about XP 64 bit (seems that i have to test it by installing it..)
Could some one (jaded??) upload (to driver section) driver for DV2000T (for windows XP 32 and XP 64), HP website with their ftp download doesn't work
thanks -
I just got mine! I'm really happy with it so far. Have been spending the past couple hours installing all the programs I want.
I'm wondering which bloatware programs I can delete without screwing up anything. Anyone have experience?

im only on page 3 of this loooong thread but i was wondering if anyone else was having trouble with the ram cover on the underside of their dv? i upgraded the ram but the door isnt sitting flush....
any tips/pics? -
No problems with the RAM door here. Have you checked that the RAM is correctly seated in the slot?
-
I know, I know -- it's been posted 1,000 times before but how do you check which screen you have?
I just got my dv2000t this morning (seriously fast shipping btw-it was supposed to take 3-7 days, it basically took 2.5)
ANYWAY, I can't find the posts where it tells you how to check and I am way curious. THanks for your help and again sorry! -
no one else has experienced this problem? wiierd.... -
Quick question, is there any way to get HP to ship you a custom order that has Home Premium but only 512MB of RAM? I'd rather order 2GB off of Newegg to save money.
-
Before I open yet another thread asking about video drivers I thought I'd try here. With laptopvideo2go essentially offline what nvidia drivers are you all using? I am using the last update off of Windows Update (7.15.10.9815) and these drivers crash on a regular basis. I get the blue screen of death (even when my dv2100t is just sitting idle), no desktop at boot half the time (rebooting doesn't help), not returning from screen saver and leaving my screen completely black with the fans running at full speed.
Seriously, this is the absolutely worst experience I've ever had with video drivers that are supposed to be release quality! -
yes...even if you are going to upgrade they'll probably make you order the 2x512 sticks... -
Hi people!
I`m proud owner of pavilion dv2000, I bought it yesterday
So, I have some questions.
First one, when I press Restart Button on screen, notebook doesn`t restart... I really don`t know what is that..
Second one, button on/off on keybord...Is it safe to turn it off that way..
Third...I have Li-ion battery, and people in shop told me that I sholud charge it only when is empty at all! But, When I connect my notebook on AC power, battery charging itself.
I`m not experienced with noteboks, and because of that I have this stupid questions.
Thank you anyways.

I have an SEC, just as I suspected. The best view is the "head on view" but overall it's probably okay for me. I mean, I probably wouldn't have known there WAS a big difference between screens had I not read up on it here. SO, had I NOT known, would it have been such a big deal to me? Everything else seems to be working just fine so I think I should probably go "ignorance is bliss!" on the monitor issue.
I realize it gets tedious for other forum members to read answers to the same questions over and over (especially this one) is there anyway for the admin to make it a big sticky post at the beginning of this section or do you think it won't matter?
Just an idea for this particular question. Thanks for your help Tweety!! -
Hello, all proud dv2000 owners!
I bought mine a month ago and so far I'm very happy with the unit, not to mention a nice feeling of being subject to the jealous looks from people in the library. The screen is a litlle small, as expected, but OMG!!! it's FANTASTIC - bright and very sharp. At starters I was looking for matte since I hate reflections, but after I tasted glossy I realised how stupid I was. It's far superior to matte, and an occasional reflection is a very small price for the amazing picture you get. I do some web browsing and text editing, PP presentations, listen to the music and watch a movie once in a while. And I play games. Suprisingly enough, pitiful Geforce 7200 can run even the latest games...some of them at least, and of course on the lowest settings. Except resoluton - I play Half Life 2 and BF2 on 1280x800 and they run relatively smoothly. So here's the question: Is adding more memory (getting another 1GB, so 2 in total) can improve my gaming experience significantly? For example, FEAR looks horrible on 800x600, while on 1280x800 it's not very playable. I know that in most cases video performance is limited by the GPU, and there's not much I can do about that. And another question - is switching to Vista Basic mode from AeroGlass mode is supposed to help? Or anything else I can turn off? Wireless perhaps?
My system:
Intel Core 2 Duo T5300 1.73 Mhz
1Gb RAM
120 GB HD
Geforce 7200
no buetooth - bastards! I just didn't pay attention it's not there, actually I need it
6 cell battery. Unquestionably sucks.
Vista Home Premium -
^^i hope you know that by getting a 1gb stick and adding that to your system, you will only have 1.5gb of ram because HP gives you 2x512 sticks instead of 1gb stick.
also, the enhanced 6cell used with the dv2000t models are much more appealing than the standard 6cell or the 12 cell. search for my thread: "reccommend: enhance 6cell battery for dv2000t series" or something similiar.
im loving the 2000t ! -
Congratulations Evgentz on your DV2000!
Every time I open up and use my DV2000 I am amazed at how beautful the glossy screen looks. I am very particular and notice the slightest defects in things and this screen looks absolutely stellar!
As "junknstuff" has said, maybe you will have better luck with the "enhanced" 6 cell (which I am looking to get). I agree that the standard 6 cell pretty much sucks as far as run time is concerned. -
Speaking of the pretty, shiny screen on the dv2000t--how do you suggest cleaning it?
Thanks! -
I've been using shaggymac products to clean the screen on my dv2000t and they work great.
You need a swiper - polishing cloth and the optimist prime LCD cleaning spray. Both available on shaggymac.com -
Hey guys!
I guess I am joining the new dv2000t owners club
I just bought mine a few days ago and it hasn't been shipped yet but I have one concern. Reading a couple of threads here and reading other reviews on the internet. It seems the battery life issue is pretty mixed...Some say it is nice, others can barely hit 2 hours. Well here are what my configuration looks like:
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T5600(1.83GHz/2MB L2Cache)
- 14.1" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
- 128MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7200
- HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
- 40% off upgrade from 1GB (2 Dimm) to 2GB (2 Dimm)!
- 120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
- FREE Upgrade: 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
- Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
- No TV Tuner w/remote control
- High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- Microsoft(R) Works 8.0
I am just wondering...for any users who have configurations similar to mine, what is the battery life like for the high capacity cell? When I use my laptop, I am ok with lowest or near lowest screen brightness. Mostly I just use wireless, internet and music. Thanks for the input! -

Well after a year and a half of owning a ZV6233US and managing to drop it twice and brake parts of the case, have the hard drive fail in the last week of the warrenty (and using an expired credit card number just so they would send me a replacement...) and managing to damage the screen so there was light grey patches behind it I decided it was time to sell it and buy a smaller and lighter machine (as I do travel internationally a lot).
I decided on the HP2224EA mainly because it was one of the better speced 14.1" Laptops out there (T2250, 1.73Ghz Core Duo, wanted an AMD but there was nothing out there, 2GB RAM, 120GB HD, DL DVD Lightscribe Rewriter, Card Reader, enough USB ports (just about...), Geforce Go 7200 (slow but its still many times faster then the Intel 950 in most laptops) and a reasonable battery life (managed 4.5 hours + on super power savings....) and the PSU is a reasonable size (the ZV6000 had a massive power supply) and it has a lovely sized and actioned keyboard and a better trackpad with decent travel buttons (although I still mainly use a mouse).
It's a nice little machine although I hate the following facts
HP use that stupid 3 pin connector on their PSUs so I have to buy another lead to use it internationally (convertors are a pain to lug around, especially when the lead is a UK one with the large plug at the end).
Vista Recovery Disc, why oh why did HP go from having a disc where you could reinstall the system as you liked it to a you can have factory defaults with all the bloatware and if you don't like it you can go out and buy the retail version (which was basically what I was told by their charming customer support people). No there is no windows anytime dvd in the box and I don't want to pay for something that should have been in the box.
The fact that the media buttons on the laptop are no longer user definable so if you don't want the bloat that is Quickplay then the buttons make beepy noises and not much else.
The HP Remote Control for pretty much the same reason, well I suppose I can use it to mute and change volume...
