You mean there is a $50 mail-in rebate! I missed that when I ordered this morning. This day just keeps getting better and better!!!
I have now printed the coupon and am waiting on my new dv4000! :hp:
-
-
Ordered a dv4000 a couple hours ago over the phone with these specs:
- Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2
- Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor 740 (1.73 GHz)
- FREE Upgrade to 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen!
- 128MB ATI MOBILITY(TM) RADEON(R) X700
- 256MB DDR2 SDRAM (1x256MB)
- 80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
- DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
- FREE Upgrade to 54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM!!
- 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
The price came to $1,139.28 with the Academic Pricing Program. I asked the guy about the memory, he said it's DDR2 533 PC4200. I ordered two sticks of 512 from newegg to replace the 256mb stick that is coming with the notebook. -
Looks like there may be some benefits to ordering over the phone (i.e. remote). Does anyone know of any other perks by going this route vs. the interweb?
-
Snagged mine today as well. Got 6% off for the acedemic discount and the $50.00 rebate...sweet. The salesman said the $50.00 rebate was a mistake and wasn't supposed to be available for the 4000 with the ATI card. Great deal, I think.

A similar Dell 6000 would cost at least $200 more...if you could get one with a X700 in it (and a free battery to boot, wonderful)!

What do yall think? Think I did OK? They had 2Gig of RAM but I thought that's a little to over the top...I dont think I'll regret that......I hope -
Also, I got the NC Headphones....anyone used the HP's NC Headphones?
-
Very nice machine. I'm a Scot, and fond of keeping as much of my money as possible, so if I were ordering up so much RAM I think I'd do so after market. I'm guessing you must do CAD or some number intensive applications to require the 770 and the gig of RAM?
-
-
I know this question has been asked, but I did not catch the answer.
Are both memory slots easily acessable :hp: in dv4000? -
According to my sales rep, yes it is easy to access both memory slots.... of course, that is coming from a sales rep, so you'd be better to hear it from someone who has the machine in hand. Man, I'm really looking forward to getting my new machine!
-
-
-
Well at least my 3yr warranty is on its way! 2nd day FedEx! Now if only my dv4000 would ship.
-
Hi, all.
Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I saw that according to PC Mag that despite it's awesome specs, this thing doesn't exactly blow the competition away performance-wise. I would think with a 2.1G Pentium, 1GB Ram, and 128MB video card, it would be head and tails above the competition -- what about u all? -
also, where do we find the $50 mail-in rebate?
-
-
Oh, to get to the link for the $50 M.I.R., just go to hpshopping.com, click on HP Pavilion notebooks, select the dv4000, then click on the "Recommended" tab and it should be on the upper right side of the configuration page. -
Memory slots are easy to access on MOST laptops, and I think the dv4000 wouldn't be any different. One should be just 4 screws away on the bottom. Thne other is underneath the keyboard which is a tad trickier. But besides that all you need is two screws, one + and one -
Nice lappy the dv4000 is ^^
PCMag = often biased (understatement!) -
WHAT are you talking about?! for around half the price, it delivers performance comparable to a Acer Ferrari 4000... I'd say that's pretty good enough! :hp:

Ordered!
HP Pavilion dv4000 customizable Notebook PC

- FREE Second 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery!!
- Microsoft(R) Works/Money
- hpshopping in-box envelope
Fired up and can't wait (always the toughest part).
Oh, I know some of us were wondering and for what it's worth, what HP means by "hpshopping in-box envelope" is nothing more than the paperwork and warranty information.
Now, how much longer do I have until it's here -
Can anyone comment on the battery life of this thing? I know it's all speculation at this point, but how much worse will the new graphics card and the higher end CPU's drain the battery?
Do you think a 6-cell can last 3+ hours surfing the web on wfii? -
well, you get a
- FREE Second 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery!!
anyway, so i think batt life should be more than adequate lol.
Plus the P-M 760 will definitely save a LOT of energy if you're just surfing and not doing anything intensive. This ain't no P4 we're talking about here=) -
Wow, amazingly cheap price. Free upgrade to like internal wireless, brighter screen, and free second battery.
I just configured a notebook with
Pentium M 1.6
256 RAM
40 gig 4200 rpm
X700
Windows Xp home
for 985.12 plus tax and shipping. ( with app program )
I'm going order 256 mb of ram and 40 gig 5400 rpm hard drive from newegg. So that would add up to to 89.80. So 1074.92 for a notebook with x700, 1.6, 512 mb ram, window xp home, and 40 gig 5400 rpm. :hp: (I'm only 15 so I don't have a lot to spend, but for 1k this notebook will be extremely quick.) -
Does anyone know if this notebook has easy access to hard drive?
-
I'll have mine in no more than 3 days (hopefully WAY sooner), at which point I'll be able to say for sure.
Josey -
3 days? are you sure about that? I ordered mine on the day it became available. Estimated ship date was the 13th i think. I assume it'll ship this week given that was probably an overestimate. But 3 days from now seems a bit too soon
-
-
Argh. The second battery offer is gone. This just sucks because I needed to wait til today to order. :\
-
Yeah, plus if I'm not mistaken, the price to upgrade to the X700 has now jumped as well...seems to me it used to be (when I ordered a couple days ago) at $99.
The must be getting flooded with orders. **** capitalism -
Yes, the X700 went up and the free battery is gone, but they're now offering the double layer DVD burner as a free upgrade (I still like the earlier deal better).
-
The free dvd upgrade compensated for the video card jump -- they are both $50 differences.
That leaves me with the same price as Friday except without the 2nd battery. -
I guess the $50 x700 increase was offset by the free DVD upgrade.
And you only get a $10 coupon now when signing up for an HPshopping.com account. -
I'm now focusing on whether or not HP will be able to deliver on-time. Should be interesting to watch this unfold....the pessimist in me is already thinking of all the excuses they could use to explain the delay.
Hopefully I'm just being a worrywart and all will work out fine, but from reading the comments on resellerratings.com, it looks like these sort of hold-ups happen more often than not. -
A rep was able to honor the free upgrade. Cool beans!
-
About 2 months ago I configured and ordered a v2000z. They were pretty hot in the market right then but the build went right on schedule (I later canceled the order, having second thoughts about the screen size and the timing on going to a 64 bit chip). I'm hopeful HP will be as good on the build time for the 4000, but I'm thinkin' this is a real popular machine and those of us who ordered on the first day of availability will be happy we did. Well, at least my remote control and warranty arrived today!
-
Anyone know which it is? If it's not standard, I see that it's $20 to order online afterward, so that's not a huge deal...just curious.
Josey -
The remote does not come standard. It costs $17.99 (or at least, that's what it cost me). I have it in my hot little hand... it's pretty cool, very small/thin. The part number is PT746AA#ABA
-
sounds to me like HP's sales reps are hardly the best in the business lol. they hardly seem to know ANYTHING about what they're selling, if the posts in this forum are anything to go by...
hope their tech support division is better lol. :hp: -
I'm holding my breath on the tech support/build quality questions.... I bought the machine with my eyes open, I'd already read the latest PC Magazine consumers poll, and the feedback on HP did not look great. But, the machine offers a lot for the money and at my old job we had great luck with HP desk tops and notebooks, so I'm hopin'...
-
I don't think there's much to worry about, togus. I've owned an HP desktop and a Compaq laptop, and both worked great.
The problem with the consumer polls is this: HP/Compaq sell a whole bunch of machines. They are largely in consumer-oriented stores like BestBuy/CircuitCity/etc where a large proportion of the buyers lack much knowledge about the computers they buy. When something goes wrong, they are upset at the manufacturer. With HP selling a lot of computers, inevitably, there will be a lot of complaints. Same story with Sony.
Dell/Apple who get ranked a lot higher simply don't face as many disgruntled customers because Apple's fanbase is quite forgiving of their products and Dell sells to a more computer saavy group.
All about lies, **** lies, and statistics. -
It's also worth pointing out that disgruntled and disastisfied consumers are FAR more likely to post commentary than are those who are happy with their purchase.
-
If anyone is interested, I've created dedicated dv4000 forums at http://www.dv4000talk.com -- once I get my laptop, I'll post detailed photos and info.
-
Just an observation while waiting for my new dv4000, I configured a dv4000 today at hpshopping.com and the est. build date is now Oct. 12th. I ordered mine last Thurs. and the build date was Oct 13th!
Go figure!?!?! -
Wait until tomorrow and it will have arrived yesterday.
