It's been a while since I tried to update my drivers, but I think I tried every driver up until 13.x? I can't remember exactly, but with 12.4 I remember I didn't like the way the switchable graphics worked, it kept turning my Windows to "Windows Basic theme" during every switch... not really performance hitting but it looked really messyhaha

Which is the most stable driver for windows 8.1 envy14 1x ? I intend to use mostly on intel graphics . Is leshcat fine for envy14 1x intel graphics?
-
How is anyone getting Win 8.1 installed? Upgrade process always dies on me.Are you using updated installation media? Win 8.1 install disc or usb? Patched Win 8 media?

I am using an 8.1 image burned on a usb

Any Envy 14 users with 5650 tried 14.8 yet?
-
If I knew where to find 14.8 drivers I'd try them... but as I mentioned above with the 13 series set of drivers, there were a lot of things that stopped working (using Windows 7 x64), so I don't hold out much hope of 14.x working much better
I've come to accept my 5650 is very out of date now
Do you know where the 14.8 drivers are available from? -
Hi there Demonhotrod!
14.8 is out on guru3d but sadly do NOT work with Envy 14, 5650, 8.1, Intel 2559/Intel 2993.
I have just had another confirmation from one of our users that it causes a bootloop on his machine (just like one of our other users reported).
This bootloop happens because fixed mode is a "legacy feature" now and AMD is switching most "fixed switching" laptops to "dynamic switching".
We have users that have tested the official AMD 14.8 package with their Manhattan series cards (most 5xxx) series. And for most people these drivers work!!!
There is however a small minority that experiences this boot loop which is partly due to how AMD implements dynamic on fixed switching devices.
If you do ever decide to give it a shot .. or would just like to have a chance of getting it fixed, you should fill out this AMD report to let them know that there are still some bugs left:

BTW:
Envy 14, 5650, Windows 8.1 and 14.4 works for all of our users on leshcatlabs!
The only thing that does not work are the AMD brightness keys but most users are not worried about this. Standby / Wakeup / Brightness control on Intel/ Switching all works.
Edit: Intel 2559 which is part of the UnifL package seems to be the most stable for the 5650 in Windows 8.1
Edit 2:
Dalby from leshcatlabs is looking into a theory if Windows 8 is the issue with 14.8.
Has anyone on Windows 7 tried 14.8? -
Hello! It's quite rare to still find someone around this thread
Shame to hear about 14.8 being broken! I remember trying to use the 12.x versions of drivers and the Brightness controls were all broken for me in them too... That is definitely a deal breaker for me as I use them all the time when switching from AC to Battery, at night etc. So that's a shame, but it's really great that there are a few people out there still using first gen Envy 14's -
14.8 and 9 and x is not broken on Windows 7!!
Sorry for the late reply but since this thread seemed kind of dead I didn't make much of it.
Matter of fact it is probably the best driver for this system since it eliminates wakeup / brightness control issues like you mentioned! :3 It places the laptop into dynamic switching mode.
However Windows 8 is problematic. Seems to be an issue that AMD acknowledged and is trying to fix. -
Hello with that drivers the dead rising works 3????????? Thank you
-
Oh my! Really?! The brightness issues have been the only thing stopping me from updating to different drivers! So if they have been fixed in 14.8 and 14.9 then I might give them a go!
Do you know where I can download them from?
EDIT: So after much searching yesterday I found the 14.8, 14.9 and 14.12 drivers on the AMD website. I installed them on my W7 Envy 14 and after initially have a problem where the driver didn't install at all and Windows had to recover, I can confirm that 14.8/.9 and .12 all seemed to work... Sort of.
I couldn't get the global switching to work at all, it was just stuck on the Intel card the entire time, I tested this in Minecraft and a variety of Steam games ranging from Skyrim to FTL (most of the games were unplayable) and I used AMD System Monitor which showed no activity from my 5650
I'm going to roll back to 12.4, the switching might not be as smooth and they might be about 2 years out of date but they were pretty stable and I don't think any more performance can be gotten out of this gimped 5650 anyway... It was fun experimenting though!Last edited: Dec 21, 2014 -
Upps I forgot to add:
You need to tabs fixer .. which will show the dynamic switching tabs.
Easiest thing:
Headover to Leshcatlabs.net and ping me "FunkyMike" for the 14.12 Omega test build. It has all of the things that the 5650 needs included.
