Man, nothing's gonna help that, if the entire thing clicks/moves/wobbles.

eh. it's a hinge on the top, it clicks at the bottom.

it only registers the button click in the marked area/a tad bit above that area.

sadly the button area doesn't have a big enough dead zone.

That's bs. That explains why the dv6 I was clicking at OfficeDepot was all clunky and glitchy. Unavoidable I guess. I'm not really familiar with macbooks or mbp's. What kinda pad do they have?

They feel the same, they click at the bottom, but not at the top. So I guess they have a hing on the top just like the Envy series.

I think the main difference between the two is that the macbook one has drivers that work right

You hit the needle on the head there :D

Allthough Reil's app makes the trackpad function much better. The scrolling with his app is the most fluiend I've ever seen it on a Windows machine.

Its the dirvers that work right in combination with a glass trackpad which glides better than the Envy.

If somehow you could make it so you didnt have to have your finger on the "buttons" to click the envy and also made it so that instead of multi finger tapping you multi finger pressed it would be just like the macbook

I think I prefer tapping over clicking now anyway. More energy efficient, therefore contributing less to the overall destruction of the universe.

I would prefer the ability to do both which probably isnt possible by third party software. Hopefully when Synaptics releases their new clickpads they update the drivers to turn our into the new style.

So would you guys recommend me to return or exchange my ENVY with a noisy clicking trackpad or just keep it since doesnt seem like its gonna physically break. Reason I'm asking is besides this annoyance, everything else is good.

Im living with my "clank" on the bottom left. I dont usually notice it, only when other people are tapping hard or if I do a hard 3 finger press. Under normal circumstances it doesn't make any noise.

You can have both tapping and clickable buttons, with a combination of envyTouchPad and Synaptics settings. Works pretty well. No whole-trackpad-click, but you can tap anywhere, or click on the buttons as you choose. Is that what you meant?

I vote keep, switch to tapping rather than buttons for most things, and try not to bash it :)

Ops sorry I did forget to mention the noisy clicking happens when I TAP on the trackpad. It does not happen when I click on the trackpad like how it is tradtionally. However when I tap on the trackpad and work that way, the clicking is most prominent....

Actually if i use my trackpad by clicking on it like how we do it traditionally, there's no excessive noise, its when I tap it lightly that it makes all the clicking and rattle noise. Still vote to keep?

I type. it triggers the touchpad.

it didn't trigger as much when I didn't use your software (the heavy touch stuff worked for the most part).

'course it could just be how easy it is to trigger "yo you have two fingers on here, pop up right click or two finger scroll around"

which may be an issue no matter what software I use (yours, reils, twofingerscroll).

I don't really wanna use the touchpad locker.

it just jumped around here while I was typing "touchpad locker." What usually happens is either I trigger right click and then go back/forwards (or just trigger shift + mousewheel, which is a hardcoded back/forward) or I select a looot of text, from where the mouse cursor is to the prompt and then it highlights it all, and then deletes it and replaces it with the other half of the word I was typing.

It's annoying. But well. it's either no two finger scroll or uh use touchpad locker (or just turn the touchpad off a lot/when I don't use it.)

annoying thing is that this stuff triggers even when I'm just typing with the laptop in my lap (at a time when you want the touchpad on).

I still dun wanna use touchpad locker since it also locks out the mouse itself as well, which is annoying.

    Download here

I've integrated a function to automatically disable the touchpad during typing. The pad is not disabled if only modifier keys (shift, control, alt) are used. The duration is user-configurable. It can be turned off entirely in the options. It only affects the functions controlled by the software (so it won't affect left-clicking if that's still handled by the driver, and it won't affect USB mice). The mouse can still be moved around. Hardware buttons will still work if enabled.

    Hope this helps.

that sounds like it's exactly what I want.

I just hope it disables stuff long enough that it doesn't accidentally trigger shift + mousewheel (alternatively, I'd love it if the shift + mousewheel shortcut for firefox and internet explorer could be turned off, but...yeah...no luck there)

'cause my biggest issue is when I make it go back...and then I lose everything in a post or on some form or whatever (usually I remember to shut the touchpad off

...though now for whatever reason the double/triple tap to turn the mouse back on isn't working anymore (it seemingly wasn't working earlier before I updated to the new one. noticed it a moment ago)

it'll turn it off, but not back on.

..gonna blame (for now) the envy and reboot it or something

also, it seems to work (cursor moves but that sounds like it's supposed to do that. buttons aren't being done and..well..2/3 finger scroll still turns on which is half my issue if that triggers while holding shift but oh well. at least it doesn't seem to be triggeri..aww man it just triggered a single click while typing. and then a double click.

there's a delay in there too...

huh. and it's pretty long as well. (at least longer than what I was using effectively with touchpad locker). weird.

edit: nvm. I see what it is.

it isn't disabling the 1+1 tap drag or the double finger tap right click. It is disabling the single tap for plenty long enough.

but well, the thing that's giving me grief is the 1+1 (hey let's drag over everything and then let you delete it) and 2 finger right click.

firefox supports modifying the scroll action with modifier in about:config.

    link

    search for mousewheel.withshiftkey

just make it match the mousewheel with no modifiers.

alright. now if only ie supported that too since ie is where I do most of the bpo form stuff and well, if you hit back there...heheh. well you're screwed and gotta start over (I'll just go and well turn the touchpad off for those like usual)

    alright it works right now.

the "launch on startup" check box keeps unchecking itself but well...I just threw a shortcut in the startup folder so no biggie

thanks for this feature. now the touchpad works perfectly for me and I dun have to remember to turn off the locker thing if I play a game or something/am using the mouse.

I too have a loose trackpad. I've gotten more used to it, so I don't really care.

I'm now convinced the Envy 14 quality control is awful. My metal case isn't seamless; the end near the lid hinges is bent up, as well as a bulge in the front where there is a gap.

It's a great laptop, but seriously, they need to run better QC on these things.

anyone else have problems with getting friendlyofires program to activate edgemotion when doing 1 + 1 dragging? Its hard to drag and select large areas since edgemotion seems to only activates when I start from the very top or bottom of the touchpad and accelerate my finger very quickly.

    Hello!

I'm having an issue with Synaptics ClickPad 7.4. For some reason, I can't enable the 2 finger scrolling, it just doesn't tick the box when I click it. The 3 finger way touching to start applications is not working either, after enabled.

Why do I get the following error when I try to run your software: "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore the error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. Access to the registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run' is denied."?

I can get the program to run now if I set it to run as administrator. However, the problems I'm having with it now are:
    1. Every time I start my computer I get a message from User Account Control asking me if I want a program from an unknown publisher making changes to my computer. I'm not going to disable User Account Control just to get rid of this one message.
    2. I can't see any way to access the program's options once it's started running; I set it to run on startup. When I try to execute the program file it says there are other copies of the program running. When I go to task manager and stop the running copy then try to run the program again I still don't get the options screen.
    3. I can't get the 1+1 tap/drag, whatever it's called, to highlight text to be selected. When I tap to end the selection it usually deselects the text I have selected.

It looked like the program showed some promise at first, but I think I'll go back to using Reil's app + touchpad locker. I had fewer problems with that combination.

There's an icon in the status bar?

As for tap to drag, you need to tap once; tap too many times and yeah, it'll most likely register end drag + click. The best way to know whether it's stopped dragging is to move your cursor a little and see if the highlighted text changes.

And UAC, I'm afraid, is one hell of a problem child. I personally disable it as soon as possible. I can't make any promise on it because apparently it gets triggered from just reading a registry key.

There was no icon in my status bar.

The tap to drag seemed a little finicky. I was trying just one tap, but it didn't always seen to register; maybe I was either tapping too softly or too heavily or too quickly or too slowly or something. That's why I was trying to access the options again, so I could play with the settings.

Also, it doesn't seem as if the registry key, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, has an entry added for this app. Under System Configuration>Startup, I do see an entry for ClickpadE14. If I uncheck the selective startup box, stop the clickpade14.exe process, then try to run the executable again, it runs but doesn't give me the options screen.

The options screen only shows on the first launch, after which you should click on the icon in the status bar to open it again or close the program.

You'd have to give me more details if you really can't see the icon.

Also, the app looks for a key, but you must ask it to run at startup for it to make one (it's also in the options dialog).

Yeah IVe had some problems with dragging as well, but i like how it disables the touchpad on key presses. Touchpad locker worked well but it seems to consistently crash after a certain amount of time for me. The program will still be running, but wont actually lock the touchpad, and complains about some sort of invalid hook error or something.

It sure does. I'm over here fighting every urge to throw the computer out the window over it. Oh, the beauty of simplicity.

For some reason, my attempts to run TwoFingerScroll never open a program. I just run it, and nothing happens at all. No message. No error. Nothing. All I have to do is download and attempt to run it, right?

Is there anyway to use envypad and be able to keep my thumb on the bottom of the trackpad (where the left button is) and still move the cursor freely without scrolling?

I'm using the original synaptis drivers that came with the envy, no 3rd party software.

Is there a way to click the touchpad from above the right and left buttons (like around the center of the touchpad) and have it left click? Basically I want it to left click by pushing down anywhere on the touchpad.

I searched the options on the synaptics page but I didn't see anything like it.

Really?... That seems like it would be pretty easy to do if someone wrote the right software. Just set it up to click whenever the pad is pressed, instead of pad pressed + finger on mouse button area.

well. there's no sensor under the whole pad. probably anyway.

so you can't do it that way. it's only under those two button areas.
