uploaded a new version to the prerelease folder.

this uses the ACM configuration in the synaptics settings (Filter Activation Time and Starting Zone Size). the config is only read once at startup, so if you change the values in the synaptics settings, restart envyTouchPad.

i had to back calculate the values to make the region match, so hopefully its correct.

Wow I am so glad I checked this thread as this new feature was all this trackpad was missing! Between this and reil's scroll fix I think this might now be one of the best trackpads I have used. Talk about going from worst to first.

Are you able to hold your thumb on the trackpad without activating two finger scroll using reil's + new driver?

Strange, dunno what my issue is.

Checked restrict pointing and tapping to zone, 0 seconds activation, area shown below.

It does a good job of not moving the cursor if just a finger is present over button area, but it will still activate two finger scroll with reil's program if a finger is resting and another finger moves somewhere. I have latest reil's program and restarted it multiple times.

I only use the synaptics driver and nothing else if that makes any difference.

    Hi Guys,

Just got a HP Envy 14 and am having a problem with the click pad and gaming....tried searching with no luck.

When playing a game, I find that when I hold a button down for movement, the clickpad does not respond. I have to let go of the button held and it is responsive again. Anyway to allow holding a button down and regular keypad movements work together?

I have synaptics clickpad version 7.4

    Thanks,
    Rex

I have an Envy 17 and I'm using Reil's TouchPad drivers, but I'm having some trouble. For some reason, every time I tap click, it double clicks REALLY fast. Most things don't recognize this as a double click because it's so fast, but things like dropdown menus don't work... They open and close almost immediately.

    Help? =/

    hi there -

as suggested, i've found that using only the synaptics driver (with its new settings) makes the touchpad work pretty well. but (at least with google chrome), the scrolling using the synaptics driver is pretty chunky and not nearly as smooth as using reil's application.

but if i use reil's application, i get strange behavior when my thumb is resting in the left click zone and i'm trying to move the cursor with my index finger -- it scrolls the screen rather than moving the cursor, even though i've set the acm filters in the synaptics settings to exclude the left and right click areas from the starting zone. from one of reil's earlier posts, i thought the latest prerelease version (which is what i'm using) used the acm settings from the new synaptics driver, so i'm not sure why that's happening.

    so...

    1. any thoughts on why reil's prerelease version doesn't seem to be using the synaptics starting zone stuff?

    2. if i want to use both reil's prerelease version and the synaptics driver, can someone please specify what things should be set in which (i.e., what should be on and off in each)?

    3. if reil's version just can't solve that issue, is there another tool that would just provide smoother scrolling with the synaptics driver?

    4. one other thing i'm noticing with reil's software: despite my earlier gripes about the thumb causing it to scroll instead of moving the cursor, it's actually a pretty handy alternative to two-finger scrolling. but even in that scenario, when i scroll down using my index finger (keeping my thumb on the left click spot), it scrolls smoothly, but when i lift my index finger and place it back towards the top of the trackpad (because i ran out of space), it jumps the page back to the very top. just fyi...

    thanks!
    cc

You have to desactivate the tap to click option in the Synaptics drivers before using Reil's app, otherwise clicks will be counted twice (one time by Synaptics and the other by Reil's app).

I used Reil's app and it def fixes the issues I had with two finger scrolling. However I still have the 2 main issue mentioned in the OP

    1) The button press area is part of the touch pad, so often It's giving mixed signals as i'm used to having my thumb on the click button while I use my index finger on the touch pad. It's driving me nuts how it freezes when both make contact

    2) I was trying to type in this forum and the palm touching the track pad would constantly make the system do wierd things.

Anyone know of any fixes for these?

friendlyfire's version of the touchpad stuff has a built in touchpad locker thing (it's not updated to take advantage of the new deadzone stuff though)

so...*shrugs* your only other option is to just setup the touchpad locker (have it shut off the mouse and touchpad inputs while typing for so and so ms)

    that's for question 2.

annoyingly (for me) touchpad locker affects the mouse and stuff so that's why I use friendlyfire's (it only shuts off tapping and other tapping things for xxxx ms, doesn't touch the mouse or moving the cursor on the touchpad.

for question 1: update your synaptics drivers, update reil's, make use of the new acm deadzoneish stuff. Like set the area larger and so long as you don't initiate con...oh right. initiating contact in the other area turns off the deadzone stuff.

nvm. that won't work for you.

hmmm wow, that's not very promising, for now I guess i'll need to just deactivate the trackpad when typing? owie

really point 1 seems to be my biggest issue though, It's really making it difficult to drag and drop.

Hey guys, I've been a lurker on this thread for a while, but never posted.

First of all, thanks to all the guys who spent a lot of time on the programs to make the envy14 touchpad much more amazing :D

I ended up settling on reil's program

I have an issue with it perhaps somebody could help me with. I use reil's program to scroll, and it's amazingly smooth in google chrome. However, when I scroll in windows it scrolls too fast. Basically, I move a centimeter on the touchpad, and it scrolls through like 20 rows of icons. Does anyone else have the same issues?

Got Touchpad locker suggested in the front page and that seems to have done the trick for #2 for the most part at least, though there have been some instances of my cursor jumping around still. It'll be interesting to see if I'll ever have instances where i'll need to use both keyboard and trackpad like playing games. Tough mostly i'd imagine i'd bust out the mouse for those.

Problem with my thumb over the click button still proves to be an issue. I wish there was some way to just deactivate the button area of the trackpad.

the problem with touchpad locker is that it will lock the mouse too.

you'll need to stop the program when playing games.

I use touchpad locker with success. I only disable clicks and scrolling while typing (Not movement) and set the time to 600ms. It doesnt affect my external mouse in any way.

i really don't understand why people are having trouble with the touchpad? I am using the synaptic driver and reil's application, with 2finger scrolling and both buttons on synaptic disabled, and single tap disabled on reil's application. it works perfectly for me, scrolling, left click (single tap), right click (2 finger tap), middle click (3 finger tap).

in fact i dont think it's any worse than the macbook pro's touchpad? except i had hoped that i can enable the buttons to be single finger + button = left click, 2 fingers + button = right click, rather than taps. but this is definitely loads better than any other touchpads i've used by far.

My hope is that with the new clickpad comes a better SDK or at least greatly improved drivers for our version which could give us some better functionality, though maybe not 11 finger recognition good.

Then again, if reil's app could manage to use the new driver's thumbcheck to not scroll when the thumb is on the left click then I would be pretty much fine with the clickpad aside from iffy detection of 3 finger taps. Its decent enough these days.

my 2 biggest issues at the moment:

    1) I'm used to putting a thumb over the click button, which is a total no go for this pad. I find it odd why they don't just give you the option to set the buttons as a "dead zone" I don't need my trackpad to be that big.

    2) two finger scrolling it is sometimes detecting pinch zoom or unzoom.

Zoglog, your views are totally alignment with my earlier perceptions. I have, however, become used to the trackpad after installing two amateur programs on this forum, disabling some settings (e.g., pinch zoom), and tweaking others. I also use my wireless mouse wherever it is possible, and I miss doing the same thing with my thumb.

I am not sure how to solve the first problem - i dont do that. but you can try to adjust the starting zone in the synaptic driver to exclude a bigger button area.

for the second problem, i know it's not a perfect fix - but you can just disable pinch to zoom in the synaptic driver, and use ctrl + 2 finger scroll to zoom in and out.

The main issue is that the driver out of the box is really jumpy and never really gets to be "good" no matter what tweaking you do. With two finger scroll and another application I have gotten my track pad to be "good", but no matter what I do - even with dead zones over the clicker and me no longer resting my thumb on the L click, I still cannot click and drag objects smoothly and consistently. The trackpad should just work right out of the box, if not there should be a driver update that works with configuration... that is worst case. This doesn't work with 3rd party apps and driver configuration. Click to drag makes me want to cry.

Oddly enough, I've noticed that the trackpad on my new E14 standard edition (replaced my Beats Edition to save some cash) has been much better. Even with just the latest drivers and no additional software, it's been largely usable and mostly issue-free. It's still not as good as the trackpad on a Mac, but it's good enough that my wife hasn't complained about it yet and even commented that it seems to be much better. Since she simply hated it on the Beats machine, I consider this a dramatic improvement.

yeah...meanwhile mine's getting problematic again (in part I think due to the newer drivers not playing nice with friendlyflier's program...though it could just be because I turned sensitivity down since I had to turn cursor speed down for my new mouse)

Since I got this damn laptop I've been living with the scrolling from the stock drivers, pining for the smoothness of a Macbook touchpad. I come here, see this, download it, and I am almost in tears.

    This is amazing.

I really really wish reil could implement friendlyfire's built in touchpad locker stuff.

'cause I the latest drivers kinda messed up some of friendlyfire's stuff. The natural deadzone at the bottom of the buttons disappeared and now I wanna swap over but the built in touchpad locker that only shuts off everything on the touchpad but scrolling and physical button clicking is the only thing stopping me.

(this stuff doesn't stop the mouse from doing anything).

oh well. I need to just downgrade the touchpad drivers probably.

I was pretty happy when I found this thread too.

easeInQuad seems pretty good, although I can't really tell the difference at 550

Yeah, if I did more typing I'd be the same as you. I really like the top left Touchpad Disable Zone, but have sacrificed it to keep reil's envy TouchPad features.

Im new to Reils fix but after implementing it i, too, was frustrated about the disable button not working. But after a long night last night of tinkering i accidently activated it... and im not sure how. All of Reils fix is working and plus the disabler.

Also, i mentioned i am new to Reils program because i just got my lappy last night, what are everyones setup? I dont understand a lot of the fields that i can edit (e.g max z thresh, deltas, easing, trigger distance)

Settings I've gone for in reil's envy TouchPad:
    Speed 130,
I haven't got acceleration on 'cos I couldn't see what it did really. Anyone?
Maximum Z threshold: 255 (maximum, means two-finger scrolling responds well/doesn't skip)
Delta ratio threshold: 0 (minimum, means two-finger scrolling works for horizontal and vertical scrolling at the same time, which I like)
    Easing algorithm: easeInQuad
Inertial Duration: 550 (nice scroll fade, looks sweet)
Tapping: Initially I disabled 1-finger tapping and kept the stock (Synaptics) Tapping settings switched on to keep the Envy's TouchPad Disable Zone working. [Edit: Turns out this registers a 1-finger click when you perform a 2-finger tap, so I've gone for all-out envy TouchPad settings for tapping.]

My Tapping numbers are 220, 50, 38 and 205. I don't think I've changed them. You can always try changing them and see if you notice a difference.
Actions, I've just got Left and Right enabled (Mouse Button X1/X2) 20%

    Thank you JoeWasEre!

Now, is there a way to the drop down menu in action: three finger scroll; left and right? I would love to see an option for alt+left and alt+right respectively. I like the way mac has that for back and forward.

I think if you go for Left and Right enabled (Mouse Button X1/X2) that works any browser backwards/forwards, the same as Alt+left/right. Needs a bit of practice tho'.

I think the percentage value is for how far across the touchpad you have to 3-finger scroll to get the action you've set, e.g. if it's 20% you only have to 3-finger scroll about 20mm rather than across the whole touchpad, so you can then 3-finger scroll 40mm-ish to jump two pages, something like that.

If you want more customization than that I think you'd have to make your own program/driver/app.

Sorry to be a pest but I am trying to figure out all the ways to fix the wayward acting trackpad on my recently bought Envy 14. It's driving me insane and I was glad to find this forum but the information available is too overwhelming. Could someone point to the links/posts that outline what needs to be done to fix this problem.....I tried to get the software uploaded by Reil but I get an error about a missing .dll file when I try to install it...

Any help will be hugely appreciated!

if you open the install.txt, it gives a link to install first...

    This works perfectly!

The only problem I've noticed is that the horizontal scroll doesn't work for all applications (e.g. photoshop). Is there some setting I can change to make it work? Or just depends on the program I'm using?

Yeah, it depends on the program. To scroll horizontally in Photoshop you can hold down Crtl while you scroll normally (up and down).

I just started using touchpad locker and it's a god send. No more random cursor movements when I type on the keyboard. Now that I have this, Reil, and the latest synaptec driver - I can finally use this thing. Unreal that we have to have all of this going to fix issues that shouldn't be there in the first place but oh well.

Thanks to everyone for making such awesome apps.
