If it's not one thing its another... if I didn't really love this laptop's hardware it would be going back in a heartbeat.
I finally got Windows 7 fully loaded and all drivers loaded on the SSD (took me hours to hunt them down). Updated it completely and it runs lightning fast...right until I put back the HDD back into the bay. It refuses to boot from the SSD no matter how I arrange the bootmgr. I can boot using the Windows 7 USB stick into the SSD but when I try to change the bootmgr back to the SSD (using EasyBCD) It refuses to boot into W7.
If there is a setting in the BIOS that needs to be changed I must be blind cause the BIOS only has a total of like 5 things that you can actually change.
Right now, I am running fine with just the SSD but at 256GB that is not going to cut it in the long run.
Any clues as to what I can change?

Anyone had their touch screen randomly switching off while they are using it?
Have to put it to sleep or reboot the machine for it to come back, any drivers for the touch panel?
Damm, just happened while I was typing this -
This happened once before to me I restarted when it happened, and it has not happened again -
Anyone have a problem with steam games / DOTA2 ?
I'm using the 740m but it lags like crazy on the DOTA 2 menu . I don't know what's wrong .
Did PCmark and it seems my dGPU is working but yeah . -
The 2230 is suffering major driver problems and I am not sure if the Ac card will suffer the same(its the 7260 if I am right, or?)
Thanks for confirming that the install of a mSATA is painless in the Envy 15 -

I have updated to the latest BIOS but that made on difference, so BIOS updates will not fix this issue (if anyone else has the problem). I have updated display drivers this also didn't make any difference although it is for the GPU and not the touch membrane. I don't expect there is any driver for the touchscreen at all, it should just work.
Must point out, when buying the machine, touchscreen did not work at all with the display model on the shop floor, and I visited the shop about a month later, still do not go.
I think that there might a bunch of faulty touchscreens out there, and if yours is not already then it may break later. My screen had zero problems till recently, could be a software issue but who knows without factory restoring it. -
I'm not sure whether it's just windows 8 or whether there might be buggy RAM or something, but I'm getting semi-regular driver crashes and freezes.
It's not enough that I could take it back to the store and show them, but it's regular enough to be damn annoying.
I'm tempted to run the memtest thing but I'm not sure if it will work on WIndows 8. -
does anyone know how to undervot envy15?
-
-
I used a kensington laptop lock and it dented the metal inward and the laptop lock doesn't work anymore because it doesn't sit flush with the device. How can I fix this inward dent? It pryed the plastic and aluminum open a bit
-
why? is it hard to undervolt
-
i jas undervolted like 100mV, i think thats as far as it goes. not a big change in idle temp but i think it will reduce some temp in full load

Got my Touchsmart 15 in today and like it so far.
I still would like to move the OS over to a mSSD if possible, but it seems like that might be a daunting task and may not even be possible from what I've read so far.
Another question, I have 16gb of RAM which is why I didn't get the mSSD option b/c it would not allow for that config. I just decided I would buy my own. If I instead just use the mSSD as an acceleration cache rather than the main drive would there be any benefit to getting a mSSD larger than 32gb??? -
Windows 8 install on the mSATA was a breeze following this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...a-ssd-hdd-fresh-install-msata-boot-drive.html
Windows 8 from a clean install is so much faster than the HP restore version. Even the minimized HP restore was not as smooth as a totally fresh install and installing all the drivers from the HP support page.
I now have a 256GB mSATA and a 7200RPM 1TB Hitachi HDD (I swapped out the stock 5400RPM drive).hendrix likes this. -

How about the installation of the mSATA? Was it difficult?
I see people talking about almost a total disassembly... -
On the 15t (I have the Quad CTO) it was so simple. Remove battery, one screw, remove lid.. that's it. There is nothing blocking it and nothing to remove/move. Make sure you get a mSATA drive with a screw (Plexor) or have one handy...you will need it.

Anyone find that the hinge on the laptop just doesn't quite go as far back as you'd like? While the screen on my 15t touch is not fantastic, it doesn't look that bad as long as you have the angle right. But if I'm using it on my lap and have my legs up at all (or crossed), thus angling the keyboard up towards me and increasing my downward angle on the screen, I can't get the screen back quite far enough to get the best image quality. It's not bad, but I start to see just a bit of vertical viewing angle issues. Using the compass app on my phone, I'm getting roughly 20 degrees back from vertical. I'm guessing there's no way to adjust that, but it could use just a few more degrees of motion.

Anyone happen to know which graphics card will be available in the leap motion Envy 17 scheduled for launch mid-October?
-
The HP Envy 17t-J000 Leap Motion will come with the following graphics. This is from the HP Envy service manual. I called and this will be available when it comes out on the 17th. Also most leap motion parts start will 73 instead of 72. These are the system boards that will come with it.
Best of all, anyone who is a Linux fan will be glad to hear it will sell with Linux as an option.

So my Envy 17 3200 laptop died on me.
HP reviewed it and deemed it a Hardware failure.
They sent me a Brand New replacement HP Envy 17-J029NR but I don't like it. I like my old model. I haven't opened it yet. It's still in the box.
I'm selling it right now on eBay and I'm only asking $1100.00. This laptop costs over $1250.00 buying through HP so you're getting a real good deal. I'll also consider any offers. I'm very trusted on eBay so you'll have peace of mind... Same username...

The screen's bendiness left indentations of the keys that aren't removable on the screen.

Has anyone tried the new F.23 BIOS for the 15t-j000 dated August 20? Since flashing, Windows doesn't shut down properly. It gets to the point where it's about to lose power, but the fan stays, the power light is on, and the keyboards lights are on too.
Eventually the CPU just gets hot and the fan reaches 100% RPM. Holding down the power button turns the laptop off just fine at this point.
Pretty frustrating. -

Did HP change the options, I'm not seeing any laptop with a 2/4GB 750M GPU anywhere, stock or customized?
Only seeing the 2GB 740M
HP USA and NZ.
I see the MOBOs in the service manual.
Glad to see the have right angle power connectors now. -

These options are all part of the Leap Motion series of the 2013 ENVY series.
The 2/4GB 750M GPU will be available when it is released. I asked a sales representative, and they confirmed to me that it will be an option on release date. -
15t-j000 owners thinking about moving to 8.1 beware! -
Does anyone know where I can buy extra battery for 15t-000j? Im looking for a bigger battery like 12 cell or greater. the bigger the better.
-
Are HP aware? -
Not sure, but I figured out how to get shut down to work again.
Control Panel --> Power Options
Click "Choose what closing the lid does" on the left-hand side
Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable"
Scroll down and uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended)"
Shut down is slower, but at least it works now. Startup appears to be unaffected (I'm using a Crucial M500 SSD). Standby via power button or lid closing still doesn't work...ugh. This setting is in Windows 8 and is checked by default, and it worked, but it doesn't in 8.1! UGGGGHHHHHHH!!!! -
Can someone say whether or not the shutdown/standby issues are fixed yet? And once they are, please let us know here. "Standby via power button or lid closing still doesn't work" <- This is not acceptable to me so I will be waiting to upgrade.
By the way I have the Envy 15 Touchsmart quad edition. Which versions were the 8.1 issues found on? -
BTW, according to HP, the Envy 15t has NOT been tested to work with 8.1 so I would not suggest updating to 8.1 till HP tests it and sees what gets broken and they supply fixes.

The ENVY 15t Select Edition now has the 4GB 750M as a configuration option on the HP US website.
These new models are 15t-j100 vs. the older 15t-j000. Neither quad-edition has the 750M option, but the selects can both be configured with the i7-4702QM.

I'd be more curious if they actually fixed the keyboard flex when they updated these laptops or not... (doubt it) It's not really an issue I guess for most
-
Does anyone know if the screen will be IPS and/or better than the ENVY 15t-j000 series on the new ENVY 15t-j100 series? To me, the crappy screen was a huge deal killer. :-( And, @ Mankix, if the keyboard flex was improved or better yet, resolved, that would be nice as well!

okay, so I got my envy touchsmart 15t yesterday and have been playing with it since. Here are some of my comments about it:
First of all, I really like the design, I was afraid that 1.18" for the back might be a little too big but it looks super thin and feels thin when you hold it in the hand even though it's kindda heavy. Moreover, it has a premium feel to it like it is worth more than what it is. I haven't run any tests yet but I've been using Handbrake heavily to convert tons of videos over night and the fans were working hard but it took the task like a boss. From 11pm to 4pm it was able to convert 70 full HD video and the CPU was usually about 70% (each file took about 6 mins compared to my old lap which might have taken an easy 30 mins to do). The screen is nice and responsive. I'm not an expert but I'm pleased with the color and saturation (it is fairly dark but it is still visible at 50% at most places). and yes, the rumor about keyboard flex is true and it's kindda bad but I can sand it (taking the fact that the design is attractive). With normal use, it's not hot at all. the fan might be running here and there but overall, it's pretty quiet. my index score is 5.9 for the graphics, i got 7.9 for processor, 8 for Ram, 6.6 for hard drive and 5.9 for gaming graphics. I will review the 15 j100 when I get it. Any questions, fire away.
EDit: I've been using it lightly for 2 hrs+ and I'm at around 60%. Also, mine only has 5400 rpm (not hybrid) but booting time is super fast (6 to 10s) which has been a plus for me.
