Well the screen that came in was another SLB6 model but it was an original LG screen and it's matte. Long story short--it's awesome and exactly what I wanted. It could stand to be brighter but just having matte finish and wide viewing angles makes me happy :D

    Silly question of the day...

Anyone know if the 740M will support a 4k monitor, like the Seiki 39", at 3840x2160 via the HDMI out? The 740m spec web page says it can but not sure if that's for laptops that have DisplayPOrt out only. Anyone heard or try to hook up the Envy 15t to a 4k monitor yet?

It's not as bright as the original (just a little less) but, as you confirm, it's a very good screen and moreover it's matte ;)

I'd like to get the B5 as a replacement for the stock panel, but is it really compatible?

    Really I don't know.
Some sellers say that the C1 is compatible, someone else not.
    For sure B6 is compatible.
The B6 is the substitute of B2 which has red looking as orange, so I think that also B2 is compatible.
If you could have the datasheets you can compare B5 or C1 with B6 or B2 in order to get an answer.

    Thank you for your response.
What specs are important for compatibility?

    Edit: How about:
    B5 - Datasheet
    and
    B2 - Datasheet

Sadly those are the only datasheets I found with Google. Do you know why it is so hard to get access to them?

Edit: B2 datasheet is shown in a flash-plugin, it isn't a direct download.

The LVDS signals on the connector are the same.
The B5 backlight consumption is slightly higher than B2 (the luminosity is higher): I think that it can work.
If you will get the B5 let we know if it works.

Higher power consumption shouldn't be a problem except the impact on battery life. I'm going to order the panel now and I will post the results as soon as I get it.

Seems to be exactly the same, but I can only find glossy versions of the Microscreen panel. The one I ordered is matte, which I really prefer over glossy.

I color calibrated the B6 with an old i1 Display 2 and it looks incredible. It provided some minor improvements over the Windows calibration but enough to make it really pop.

Good news, I just finished installing the B5 panel and it's working perfectly. Picture quality is just amazing and viewing angles are great. The new panel itself seems to be just a tiny bit larger, which made it a bit difficult to install.
HP really should've put this panel into the Envy j-series.
Now the only thing I need to solve is the keyboard flex on the left side. I read this thread and someone recommended filling out the space in the aluminum shielding below the keyboard. What thickness of cardboard/any other material is ideal to do so?

    Great!

So we can say that these IPS screens work correctly:
    - LP156WF4-SLB5
    - LP156WF4-SLB6
    - LP156WF4-SLB2 (is like B6 but with some colors shifting)

    Is yours B5 new?
Can you send a photo of the screw holes on the panel (mine had a clear mark of some screws in them)?

I forgot to take a photo of it, but mine was new. There was only a bit of glue residue on the panel because of the protection film in front of it, but I couldn't find any indicators for it not being new.

The next time I will buy the panel from an international seller. Mine was not new and I've paid it almost twice. If you are in Italy, send me a message and I'll tell you where don't buy.

That's a real shame, especially because you got a used one. But on the positive side, you still got an awesome panel. One question: Have you done anything to fix the keyboard flex, or doesn't your Envy have it?

Mine has the keyboard flex bad...but i'm not going to attempt to fix it. The screen is now great but with the keyboard seeming to be not sensitive enough(missing keystrokes), keyboard flex, and weird beats audio volume fluctuation issues, i've had enough with this laptop. Already found a buyer for it and i'm moving on to a used Elitebook 8570w :)

I see the SL c1 is significantly more money, but says IPS. I hear IPS is much better than the average screens.

Is it really significant? Its about 2x the price of the one you suggest.

My screen arrived today and my Envy should be here by Thursday. I can't tell if I got a genuine screen or not.. I looked up all the numbers online and nothing comes up. Maybe I'm doing it wrong? Can someone help that bought the B6 screen? IMG_20140715_133839.jpg IMG_20140715_133846.jpg

These are the 3 stickers. Well 4 if you count the void sticker.

It seems that the seller has put some stickers on the original ones.
Probably your screen is a compatible one, produced by another manufacturer.
If when you will powerup the LCD remains black and not white it's a IPS for sure (TN are normally white, IPS are normally black, as you can see on the specifications on Global Panel Exchange Center - Panelook.com).

Would I be able to replace the 1366x768 screen with the IPS 1080p? Also, this would completely void the warranty right? There's no way to get the warranty back after switching out the screen correct?

I don't like the sound of the seller putting their own stickers.. Makes it seem as if they might have sold me something I didn't order. Hm.. I will test it once my laptop gets here and post back.

The Warranty void sticker is exactly placed over the original part (model) number.
That panel may be produced by LG or by another manufacturer with the same characteristics.

Just thought I would let you guys know that if you replace the screen with the IPS 1080p the warranty is NOT voided. The only part that won't be covered is the screen. I specifically opened a chat session and directly asked the question on whether the warranty would still be valid, and she confirmed it would be.

    Relevant part of conversation:
07/15/2014 11:23:15AM Evan: "Ok. Awesome. If I were to replace the screen by myself would the warranty be voided?"
07/15/2014 11:24:12AM Agent (Ella L.): "No, it will not, Evan."
07/15/2014 11:24:43AM Evan: "Even if I purchase the screen from another retailer"
    07/15/2014 11:24:48AM Evan: "?"
07/15/2014 11:25:07AM Agent (Ella L.): "It will not affect the warranty of the laptop."
07/15/2014 11:25:40AM Evan: "What if I were to replace it with an IPS screen or something not usually allowed in the configuration?"
07/15/2014 11:26:15AM Agent (Ella L.): "We are still referring to the warranty, right?"
    07/15/2014 11:26:39AM Evan: "Yes"
07/15/2014 11:27:18AM Agent (Ella L.): "Still, it will not, Evan. But please bear in mind that if that parts being hooked needs fixed, those will not be covered by the laptop's warranty."
07/15/2014 11:27:32AM Evan: "Yeah I completely understand that"
    07/15/2014 11:27:42AM Evan: "http://www.amazon.com/LG-LP156WF4-SL-B6-REPLACEMENT/dp/B00COOEO9S"
07/15/2014 11:28:26AM Evan: "This is the screen I'm thinking of ordering and replacing, and just to confirm, the warranty itself will not be voided however, the screen will no longer be covered. Correct?"
07/15/2014 11:28:55AM Agent (Ella L.): "Yes, Evan. However, this screen must have a warranty of its own."
07/15/2014 11:29:33AM Evan: "If I needed the screen to be repaired you mean?"
    07/15/2014 11:29:42AM Agent (Ella L.): "Yes."
07/15/2014 11:30:14AM Agent (Ella L.): "But this is an LG Philips screen, if I am not mistaken."
07/15/2014 11:31:11AM Evan: "Perfect. That's all I needed to know. Yes I know, but I have confirmed that this screen works with the computer.

    Edit:
Curiously enough she also mentioned the graphics card could be upgraded. Can anyone confirm or disprove this?

So under the warranty sticker (covered with white out, i took the white out off with sharp object) it turns out I spent 90$ for something else.. I paid for a b6 but got otherwise. Not sure if I should return for a refund or just see if it works as well as a b6? Here is image.

    http://i59.tinypic.com/1t0jua.jpg

    The numbers are: N156HGE -LB1 Rev. B4

Did a search .. Its a TN screen! I was ripped off! Here is the data sheet I found: N156HGE-LB1 Datasheet download - Panelook.com

Ya I messaged them. It was a person on eBay. They had good ratings so I thought they wouldn't try tricking me. eBay has good buyer protection so getting either the right item or my money back won't be an issue.

Edit: Bought one on Amazon. Not going to wait for them to reply on eBay. Putting wrong item because it is and getting money back and sending it back.

Ugh! Apperantly they only sell "compatible" b6 screens and not exacts as well...

Does anyone know where I can get an EXACT b6 panel and NOT a COMPATIBLE? Anyone? :(

I am so desperate for an official screen I even just emailed LG themselves.
