Like others mentioned, the minimum spec of the 17t-3200 has been increased. The 6gb of RAM option is gone and now 8gb is the minimum, and the minimum wifi (2x2) option is no longer available.
I already have an order placed with ship date of 6/13. If I contact HP, do you think they would upgrade my RAM or wifi for free, if I just ask for it? Any advice?
-
Doesn't hurt to try, but it seems like they increased the price to reflect those changes. -
As someone else has already said the new minimum pricing seems to reflect the prices of those upgrades. I don't think that they'll upgrade you free of charge and they seem pretty stiff about changing orders after the transaction has be processed or sent to the factory floor, mostly has to be an error on their part I believe. But it definitely can't hurt to try, give it a shot and share your findings!
Also to the guys that went with the 3820's, not a waste of money at all. They give you the option of customization so that you can build a pc to suit your needs. Even if you don't do much with your PC applications will become more robust over time and that extra speed will help you when they get there, you're future proofing which is smart as heck. If you can afford it why not? -
This is usually the rationalization applied when spending big bucks on a top-end CPU. Like you're being "extra prepared" by buying a CPU that will shave off nanoseconds from common tasks and so that you're ready in a year or two when Office and Chrome somehow require ten times the CPU they do today.
With a handful of exceptions it hasn't ever been the case. Maybe if you do a lot of encoding or other CPU-intensive things. Not to say it isn't worth it to you - clearly if you spent the money it is worth it to you, but the marginal return on your additional investment is very difficult to quantify in real terms and that's why most people on NBR will not recommend ever buying a top-end i7. -
Love the feeling of knowing I just order a new envy 17
like a child waiting for Xmas day lol excuse my excitement
-
Woke up this morning, and I was about to contact HP live chat to see if I could get a free RAM or wifi upgrade. But lo and behold, I have an email in my inbox saying my laptop is "ready to ship" and it has a FedEx tracking number.
Never mind about the upgrades, just gimme my new toy! My scheduled ship date was supposed to be June 13th. Anyone else have their Envy 17 done early?
Excited! -
Ok, lets not all have a CPU pissing match here. Your money is your money to spend. If you're sitting on cash and want a Lamborghini you get a Lamborghini. Don't tell people how to spend their money, they worked for it not you. End of story.

I totally hate you. Like totally. JK! Just really jealous!

Too bad I ordered 5-7 day shipping. But I will be out of town anyways when it comes most likely. -
I wonder why exactly the 750G Hybrid HDD adds a week to ship time? I have one and home and it didn't take long to ship off to me.

My Envy 17 is being shipped today! Got the tracking number. So hopefully it'll be here Tuesday or Wednesday with second day shipping. It's like Christmas is coming early.
-
Same here, mine just shipped. Estimate delivery date is: Jun 14
-
The timestamp on my order confirmation email was:
Mon, Jun 4, 2012 at 1:57 PM
Got the shipping notification:
Sat, Jun 9, 2012 at 5:47 AM
I did not get the 2-day shipping though, so I probably won't be the first to get mine. The preliminary estimate from FedEx (when I go to a provided email notification link) says it will be delivered on June 14, but it's too soon to tell if that's an accurate delivery date or not.

Does anyone know if the adobe license can be transferred to another computer? It's "included in price" so I'm paying for it but I bought the full version of adobe's production suite so I'd have no need for the 'elements' however I have a friend that would love to be able to utilize that 'elements' license. Shouldn't it just be a matter of finding out the serial number or something and then uninstalling it from my envy?
-
Also, are there any other video editors on this forum that would be able to tell me that the upgrade from the 2.3 GHz to the 2.6GHz processor is definitely worth the extra $115 (after coupon)? Obviously it depends on what I'm doing blah blah blah. I'm just looking for an opinion.
-
I do videos too, I think that it will just help a little by making things render faster, that's all.
-
Great comment. Thanks!
I'm looking forward to what you guys think when your laptops arrive. Mine is still in production. -
My tracking number is now active. Estimated delivery date is June 13 by 10:30am!
-
Did you get the 2day shipping?
-
Yes I did.
-
Nice mine shipped as well!
Didn't get the 2 day and it still is due the 13th. I have ordered 3 Envy's in the past and learned my lesson about Hp and their 2 day shipping. Don't bother is the short story the laptops come in 3 days no matter what kind of shipping you get. -
Ordered a shiny new Envy 17 to replace my aging Envy 15 w/5830... took the cheapest 6GB RAM option with the expectation that I wouldn't bother upgrading unless it turned out I need it for work and would buy aftermarket RAM cheaper.
But now I'm wondering-- 6GB is a weird configuration. Do Ivy Bridge motherboards no longer require matched DIMMs for performance? Am I crippling my memory bandwidth with mismatched DIMMs like this? -
oh I'm salty! I ordered back on sunday 6/3 when the they first became avail and that POS is still on production.
-
Yeah me too. Ordered 6/3 at 10:33AM and still in production. Gotta love it.
-
da hell same
why are the people from sunday still waiting =\
-
Those of you doing your own SSD upgrade, did you order the caddy plus + cable that was mentioned earlier or is anyone doing a different installation option (i.e., double sided sticky tape + cable)?
-
I'm hoping it comes with the extra cable like people with the previous gen reported. I have double sided tape and two 256gb SSD's ready to be installed.
-
I have the caddy and will test how it fits when my laptop arrives.
-
I also ordered Sunday and still in production.
I wonder if it's because I ordered 1333 ram and they ran out, since now they only offer 1600... -
yeah its prolly something to do with their memory mess up... ugh i want mine now
-
Sure this has been asked 10 times, but I can't find an answer. If I do a complete wipe when my envy arrives, does that void the warranty? Thanks guys
-
I ordered the 6gb 1333mhz ram and mine shipped today...
-
what else did u have? i had fhd, 8gb 1333, i7 3720 (btw this is for the envy 15)
hopefully its late cause they are taking extra care so no qc problems LOL -
It does not void warranty.
-
Are they being constructed in China like Apple does with their MBPs?
If they are, thank God they work on Sundays lolz -
yeah they are lol
-
Here's the specs for the one I ordered on 6/3 at 1:30pm:
On a side note, does anyone know why does the Envy 15 gets an 8 cell battery while the Envy 17 only gets a 6 cell? -
I got the exact same thing as you, except 8Gb 1600. I ordered Friday though
-
Looks like the 3820 is in short supply from the last 2 posts did you get the 3820?
-
Yes i did.... Better not be. Sales rep said that the ship date is the latest it would ship and noted it most likely would be finished before then. But then again... She was just a sales rep.
-
Yeah, FedEx shows mine shipping from Shanghai, China. -
Haha awesome
-
3720 here.... I assume it'll just ship monday. Hope to receive by friday
-
was thinkin about pulling the trigger on the ssd but I guess I'll wait and see what you guys report back. I'm not trying to spend another $30+ on a caddy unnecessarily...
-
my dad tried to order me the envy 3 times, kept denying his card! hopefully sending the money to my US card will do the trick, the coupon will expire soon dammit!!!!!
-
When I ordered mine in December I was frantically trying to get the order completed before the coupon expired. Turns out they pretty much have a 33% coupon out for the Envy's at all times. Don't worry about it. When the current one expires, they'll release another one.
-
Hopefully we'll be able to clock our 7850's to 7870 speeds.
-
"Order in production." LOVE the Chinese worth ethic on a Sunday... haha
How? -
I wouldn't say there is always a 33% coupon. They switch between a 33%, 30%, or I think $400 or $450. The percent off ones obvious give the greatest savings and there is minimal difference between the 33 and 30 but if you're going to pull the trigger, might as well get the most saving out of it. Otherwise it could be weeks or a month before one of the good coupons come around again.
