Hi, I was happy to see this thread! Anyone know if hp fixed the mangled arrow keys on this envy? Thanks!
-
As you guys receive your envy's please let us know if you have any issues with the screen, I hope it's been corrected.
-
its gonna be the same screens (the problem is on the envy 15 btw) but they said there have been firmware updates... we will see lol
-
This maybe excessive, but is there a CD/DVD hard drive caddy for this new Envy 17"? I looked at the Newmodel site, but no such luck in finding one for this model (too new, right) or the previous model.
BTW, I placed an order as well yesterday. I've been bouncing around Alienware's 17/18" and Clevo's lastest 17". I did want 32GB RAM option though but the 33% discount won me over and I didn't really need a high end video card. -
u can always upgrade ram later
doesnt ivy bridge allow 64 gb?
-
Anyone want to compare the hp envy 17 radiance display to the 95% gamut screen sold on the Sager NP9130/NP9150?
I know this screen is great, but I just can't decide between this Envy 17 and a Sager NP9130
-
is fatwallet.com 5% cash back legit? my order is in the process of canceling because i found out about fatwallet.
-
Oh I see, I was under the impression that the problem applied to the Envy 17's as well. I guess I have nothing to worry about then, except gaining some pre-arrival patience haha
-
What's the difference between "order dropped to the factory" and "order in production"? Does order dropped to the factory come before order in production? If so long does it stay in the phase. I don't even remember seeing the DV7 I ordered going through this stage of the process. I'm trying not to get impatient but I'm just so excited to finally get a new laptop so i can stop using my wife's sandybridge DV6. The screen on this DV6 just doesn't compare to a beautiful radiance envy display.
-
I hope the fixed the issue with missing key strokes.
-
It usually takes about a day to go from "order dropped to factory" to "order in production".
I imagine it as someone giving the specs to the factory vs someone actually assembling the laptop on the production line. -
For all of you worrying about being able to boot from one of the USB 3.0 ports, that shouldn't be an issue. 3.0 couldn't be used until an OS was running because it wasn't supported natively.
Ivy bridge natively supports 3.0 and so should be able to recognize the ports and connected devices upon powering on the notebook. -
Does anyone know where to order envy 17t-32xx in EU???
Thanks! -
Wow... Lenovo just put out a product that is VERY VERY enticing...
Even though it's only a 15.6", but it's for $1160!! Awesome deal considering its components.

It sure sounds nice... now if it just wasn't soo damn ugly!
-
exactly what i was thinking, its thick big and not a very handsome fellow
-
Just slap one of these on there (or on any laptop except Alienware) and voila! You have an awesome looking lappy!
-
I was looking at the y580 among other competitors before getting the Envy as well.
For looks and size alone, I'd still get the Envy 17. Plus the 7850m should perform about the same as the 660M.
The Envy 17 also has dual HDD bays. 1 year vs 2 year warranty. No question the Envy has better build quality. And lets not forget multi monitor support. The y580 has a single HDMI port.
So ultimately, the only thing enticing is the price and that's only a $100 difference. -
Just curious to to all Envy 17 owners/future owners. What are you guys going to use this thing mostly for? gaming? i saw someone posting about CAD work etc..surfing, facebook
I got the Envy 17" (well originally the dV7t) for my photography stuff and later on to do some video work. So the bigger screen, great specs, price and some portability are the things i looked for. I didn't want a MBP as i find it too expensive for what it gives plus i'm a windows guy. Also, the MBP look of the Envy is a nice addition as well! -
I am getting the system for gaming and schoolwork. I canceled my AW m17x-r4 order for this cheaper and more portable alternative. If I find that the GPU is not suitable for my gaming needs, then I will return and reorder the m17x.
-
Im going to use mine for every day browsing. My work (sports markets, stock markets, forex) and also if i have time, then im going to play a bit of D3, BF3.
Notebook will replace my current PC and will have 3x 1920x1200 screens connected to it.
Decision was made over the Clevo P150, since Envy will have better look and 2x DP and HDMI for 3 external screens.
I still have to find EU dealer tho... -
Can anyone recommend a good sleeve for this laptop? Something that will fit it well without being too small or too big?
Post here with links to any protective sleeves, or laptop cases/bags that you are considering for your new Envy 17 laptops.
I'm currently looking at this one. Seems to be a good size for the Envy 17.

Thoughts? -
I don't think i need a sleeve. Any suggestions for bags? I found this one 17" toploader for $12. It's from Lenovo though. Don't really mind the brand name on it, i just need something i can put the Envy 17 and the battery and transport safely if i need to.

I got this from Walmart like 4 years ago for my G60. The envy 17 will definitely fit, but my G60 was like over 1.5" thick... HP RU350AA Notebook Backpack - Walmart.com
-----------------------------------------------------
In other news..
My order is being verified
Here's what i got for my 3D:
Genuine Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
3rd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3820QM Processor (2.7 GHz, 8MB L3 Cache)
Radeon(TM) HD 7850M Graphics 1GB GDDR5 Memory [HDMI, DP]
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
750G 7200 rpm Hybrid Hard Drive
Everyone's the same with the rest of the stuff... -
I ordered the Envy 17 and I see it comes with a Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, which I won't want on that laptop (which will be a linux machine, really). Does anyone know if it's OK to install that software on a different machine?
-
the software comes installed on it
not sure how you can transfer it -
It's not for everyone, but I bought this bag a few years ago and love it! It's the Oakley AP Pack 3.0, it's like a pseudo-military style backpack which fits the Envy 17 perfectly (ain't cheap, though at $160):

I just bought the new envy. I stayed with the hybrid drive but was planning on installing Newegg.com - Corsair Force Series GT CSSD-F120GBGT-BK 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Since Microsoft released the windows 8 preview you can download, would I be able to install that onto the SSD and still have access to everything on the hybrid, music, files etc.? -
Yes, but the preview will begin automatically shutting down in January '13. So don't plan on using it long term.
-
Yea I saw that, but they are planning on releasing the full version shortly after from all the rumors. I am planning on doing the $14.99 upgrade anyways.
Thanks for the response. -
so our new Envy's shipping on the 14th qualifies for the Windows 8 upgrade?
-
You can't upgrade a consumer preview to the gold version. You'll have to clean install it. You can upgrade the windows 7 part though.
-
What day did you buy it?
-
Has anyone ordered the new envy with the triple drives? That sounds like a good option, especially if the 128gb msata is the one from samsung that is sata 3. That 2 plus TBs of storage would make the envy a true desktop replacement. Does anyone know how the envy performs (speed, heat, wei) with that configuration?
-
For the $460 price that HP charges for the tripe drive option, you could get 2x 256gb SSD's and a 64gb msata and have enough left over for an external enclosure for the 1tb drive.
They simply charge way too much for HDD upgrades. -
Sorry if I'm slow (haven't read the thread for a few days) but a lot of the options when customizing is now gone for example theres only 1 wifi option, theres 3 memory options all 1600mhz and only the 7850M.
Don't know if everyone knew or this/was meant to be like this?
Also, why do none of the i7s have turbo boost? Is there no need for it anymore or something? e.g. I'm thinking of getting this one and there's no mention of it?
3rd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM Processor (2.3 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache)
1 more thing lol; What's the difference between mSSD and SSD e.g. the mSSD 80gb + 750gb hybrid vs the SSD 160gb + 750gb hybrid aside from the obvious size differences. Wondering whether to splash out on SSD or just roll with the Hybrid malarky -
It just needed cleaning up which HP did on Monday. It was duplicate entries. If you refer to Intel's spec sheet, they all still have turbo boost.
-
Ordered on June 5th
-
You're good.
Windows Upgrade Offer - Program Information -
Yeah, I noticed that first thing you said. It just means that you can't have a cheaper laptop, but if you added those upgrades before, there is no price difference from the updated site, they just did it like that so the cheapest laptop you can now get is more expensive than the cheapest laptop you can get from before.
I am pretty sure they just forgot to add turbo boost on the description. Since those processor codes are described as having turbo boost on intels site. You would have a lot of people angry if they removed turbo boost. -
So looks like we overpaid $10 for wifi
On the bright side, the configuration with upgraded CPU & HD is more expensive now, so technically saved me about $50
-
Yeah I went all out with the i7-3820qm... Better be worth it. Lol, CPU and is pretty much the only thing I upgraded... Went to the hybrid drive, but that's it
Sent from my SGH-i917 Windows Phone using Board Express -
Why did you go with that CPU though? For what use?
If it's only gaming, you've completely wasted your money. -
Yea I was on chat via internet and another time on the phone with a rep and they both double checked and said it has turbo boost. I believe over the phone she said the 3610 has turbo boost to 3.3.
-
The games I play are CPU dependent more than gpu. Also vm (I work in IT), emulators, and renderings.
This guy doesn't waste money.... Ever. Saver not a spender, it hurt a lot shelling out this cash
Sent from my SGH-i917 Windows Phone using Board Express -
Yeah, but that only gives you about 600gb in the computer instead of 2.1 Tb. Also $460 minus 33% is about $310. I do agree that you pay more when buying from hp, but that because it is considered original equipment and covered through their warranty. However I am curious if anyone has used an envy in the 3 drive configuration. How good is the msata performance, does that configuration show up as 3 drives or as two, raid 0? Can someone provide some insight. Thanks. -
Has anyone been able to combine education pricing with the 33% off coupon. I swear my hp rep that I talked to is retarded...
-
They won't do it.
-
Lol, I got the i7-3820qm, and all I got this laptop for was the browse the internet and watch videos. Did I waste my money, absolutely not, because buying this computer configured the way I want makes me happy. And spending money on my happiness is not a waste to me.
Also, it looks like getting a singly 750gb hybrid drive adds a week to the whole process, just an fyi to those thinking of ordering.
