It should stay at 100% for longer if you leave it charging at 100% for another hour or 2 before disconnecting. If you hit 100% and then disconnect it immediately will drop faster.

    --My Battery Issue Status--

Alright so as I have been posting I have an issue with my battery life.

Despite a clean install, .05F BIOS, and power saving settings my battery life is between one to two hours.

My guess is that the problem lays either in the battery or the motherboard.

HP is sending out a new battery that should be here in a few days, so hopefully that will be the fix (Although I am doubtful because the battery shows in perfect health using the HP diagnostics tool). If not then I will have to RMA the laptop completely.

    Wish me luck...

It's been plugged in at 100% for several hours while I was gaming.

Just curious, what number did you call HP for the battery issue. I was thinking of calling them about mine. Do you have to send back your current one for the new one?

They will send you out a new one, but you will have to go through a special department... and you will be assigned a case manager (takes about 1-2 days)...

I just called the main HP number.

I have downloaded the battery check, but it says battery not detected. What should I do?

I haven't flashed the BIOS yet because I'm scared to.

I am getting 2 hours on the HP recommended mode. WiFi on, Bluetooth off, no flash in pure web browsing.

Most chargers don't trickle charge at full to the best of my knowledge. They let the battery run down a few percentage points and then top it off again.

No, IGP quad cores (sandybridge) coming out at the end of this year/start of next year will have a new socket.

it's somewhere one the first page of the owner's lounge:

you need something like winrar or 7zip and then you right click on the exe and open it in winrar and extract it to SWSetup.

    Just curious...

How long does it take to go from 0% to 100%.

I am also familiar with the idea that the first 80% charge faster than the last 20% stretch.

Everyone who is having some trouble getting good battery life:

Open up task manager and arrange by CPU cycles (click the cpu column). Now check to see if a process called wmiprvse.exe comes up. If you're like me, it would be eating up almost 23% of the CPU at a time. I'm almost positive it is related to HP wireless assistant which is just garbage. I uninstalled and now that's all gone. Seriously all that HP bloatware is terrible. If you want to disable bluetooth you'll need to disable it in the Device Manager

Another thing I did was turn off windows Search Indexer which eats up idle cpu time indexing your files for faster searches. I wish I could enable that only on battery...

If your computer is just sitting there and you don't have any web browsers open or anything, your computer should be idling around 0%... I would do some research on any process that makes it jump above 5%.

Now my CPU is idling at ~0% and I've gotten a half hour boost according to BatteryBar [edit: make that an hour]

Yes... and if you search that page for "HP" you'll see mentions of HP starting the service. It's not a legitimate instance of the service.

I also disabled the HPWMISVC service in services.msc (notice the "WMI"). It is something that HP wireless assistant used and it's unnecessary to have and could have also been the culprit for that process.

Are you using the EQ? another words is it anything but flat? I got 2:50 mins on battery when just playing from pandora (and screen on) Both pandora and the beats audio thread was taking lots of cpu.

I was playing from the speakers, but still

This might be a stupid and dumb question and not sure if it belong here, but do you think HP or a 3rd party will make a battery that lasts longer for the Envy?
    Same size, just packs more?

    check it out:
so i was someone who did a clean install of windows with the hopes of stretching the battery life a bit longer but actually found my battery discharge rate (per Battery Bar) go up, to around 12-14mW. i also had HWmonitor measuring my CPU temps around 95F, which caused my fans to do the cycling on/off thing. my guess is the bios is set to keep temperatures below 95, so the fans would get it down to 95, a few sec later it got above that so the fans would turn on, and the process would repeat.

so, last night i figured ehhh what the hell and installed google chrome (i was using firefox before). that's the ONLY thing i changed and my temps now hover around 91-93F, my fans don't cycle anymore, and my battery discharge rate has dropped to 10k or below most times (maybe because the fan's not constantly cycling on/off?).

it's completely unscientific and proves nothing, but seeing as how the only difference is i'm using chrome now instead of firefox, i think it's worth a try for people to do who're hoping to extend battery life/take some load off of your cpu and maybe help with the fans turning on/off while surfing the internet.

hope others have the same luck as me. later.

100% sure that's all i changed between temps in the mid 90's and fan cycling to temps in the low 90's with no fan cycling.

however, i had previously made changes to the power plan i'm using, but that had been in effect for several days with no glory.

and just to be clear, i'm not implying this solves the fan cycling/battery eating problem. heck, it might not work for anyone out there other than me.

i just noted that it made the difference for me, so if there are others out there who want to give this a shot then hey, they should know about it and have at it.

I dont find battery bar that reliable. Have you actually emptied the battery whilst using chrome? How long did you get?

I am also using firefox and getting 1200mah. I will install chrome in a bit and test.

I installed BatteryBar and it is telling me my battery is draining at -17,208 mW
Doesn't that seem like a lot? I'd like it to be more like 10,000 mW. And is BatteryBar even reliable? It doesn't seem very accurate to me.

It seems to take ages to estimate a correct usage. Mine is fainally starting to look right after a few discharges. (I drained the batter and calculated my mw myself and it was very similar.

    Yours seems high!
What is your spec? And is it default OS or reinstall?
What are you running? (check your cpu usage)
    Are you definately on intel?

I am currently playing music through the speakers at 30% with the screen on low, WIFI on bluetooth off and I am getting 9500mw

    Same here.

I called HP about the issue, and they said there is a problem where the computer will say the battery is fully charged, when it is really not, thus not allowing it to fully charge the battery. They are working on a BIOS update that will be out this month. Hope that will fix our issues, but if it doesn't, I'm asking for a replacement battery or repairs.

    Just a head up:

HP has released a new BIOS update. F.06

    FIX:
Fixes an issue where the Battery icon incorrectly shows both the main battery and the battery slice in a charging state after unplugging and then re-plugging in the battery slice.

Perhaps it also improves the battery life.

    Envy 14 i5-520,500gb hd, 1x4gbddr3,infinity radiance:
Power saver with brightness down to second to last notch, bluetooth/wireless off, discrete graphics off, doing nothing - just idle.
BUT, just spoke to HP rep who said, "we are aware of the battery life issues on the Envy 14 and are working on a new bios to correct them."

^Your battery life is extremely low for just idling. I push close to 6 hours with wifi off and screen brightness that low.
Hopefully the bios update corrects it, I could go for 5+ hours actual use instead of the ~3 I'm getting.

Yeh it seems too high. I have intel i5-450m, 4GB RAM, 160GB SSD and rest stock. I reinstalled the OS so I got rid of all the HP Crapware. I have 44 Processes running right now with 1.2GB RAM and on average 1% CPU usage but there probably are times when it goes up for a while. Still, I'm going to test the battery out today and I'll time it myself. If I get less than 4 hours than I'm going to be extremely disappointed.
Oh and CPUID is telling me I have 4% battery wear and the designed capacity is 59200 but my full capacity is 56580. Is that a lot?

I just did the HP recovery because the system wouldn't let me in when I first got the laptop (said the account was locked -.-).
However oddly, the HP recovery didn't install any bloatware, it looked like a fresh install, I only had to do drivers, etc.

-21,000. HP recommended settings. 2:22 full lifetime. 10% CPU usage, and just light web browsing, listening to music, and using Word. I assume 59% memory usage isn't a problem?

    Hey guys,
I received my Envy a few days ago and am concerned with the battery life. Ive been streaming video in divx web player with brightness all the way down and wifi on, maximum power save profile. Discharge rate goes from 13,000 on start up to 20,000 and hovers in that area for a total battery life of under three hours. Does this seem right?
Google chrome, 69 processes running. Minimized image install, i5. 500gb hd. INTEL GPU. 6gb ram.
Thanks for the help. Great group and great info on my purchase thus far :)
