@ 2.0 - I just spoke to HP about the disappointing battery life. I was told that the HP battery test for their claim of 7 and 14hrs is done while in HP Quickweb settings with the bluetooth and wireless off. Who would ever do that??

After about 5 cycles of charging I got 11,423 mw discharge rate out of 56,995 (3.7% wear of 59,200).

    4:57 battery life

    i5-450
    160gb ssd
    4gb x 1 memory
    50% brightness
    wi-fi on
    bluetooth off
    some bloatware removed
    HP recommended settings
I have about 10 tabs of chrome open and nothing else

With the slice in it gives me 116,591 mw but the battery lifetime stays the same so I think batterybar is messed up. Im guessing that its over 10 hours though since the mw is almost doubled.

I don't think it's the expected BIOS update. The battery life BIOS fix is supposed to be out within 2 weeks, according to HP support. Can't wait, with only 2:15 minutes of battery life here.

Ok, I download batterybar and it shows that I'm only getting 2 hours and 30 minutes for battery life.

This is at the lowest brightness, wifi on. The only thing I have upgraded is the i5 450, and i'm on power saving mode.

Does anyone know a way to optimize the settings?

I had the same problem as you with only 2:15 of battery life... From my experience with my previous Envy 14's I get about 4 hours of battery life. So I knew there was a problem with the battery. What I did is that I called Hp Tech support about having a poor battery life. What they would ask you to do is open Hp support assistant and use the battery check (which is useless because the software is crap). It said my battery was OK.... but I complained to them about my previous battery life experiences with my Envy 14's, so they put me on hold for a few minutes and came back to tell me that they will send a replacement battery within a few days. Once upon receiving the battery, you will have to ship back the defective battery (shipping label included). Now I am getting about 4 hours of battery life as compared to the 2 hours from before.

Also to note my 2 hours of battery life was on these settings:
    -Hp Power Saver
    -Intel Graphics
    -Light web surfing
    -Word processing
    -60% brightness
-Minimal Installation - 56 processes at boot up.

I have ordered my Envy 14 just a few seconds ago, I hope that it will be fine :)

I have talked to the salesman and asked him if there will be a replacement for the internal battery, as expected he denied and told me that there wont be one ...

So my question to all of you who have owned another envy, were you able to get bigger and better batteries at the www?

Is that a point you can rely on, I mean even if there are new batteries are they worth their money or just trash?

Lets hope that this bios is improving our battery life ....

Well, its always better if u remove the battery if ur computer is plugged in ...

Just remove it if possible, because every time u plug it in it will be charged, and every charge lowers ur battery capacity!

Why does HP release such a low density 58 whr or 59 (w/e it is) battery when there are 95 whr batteries out there?
Lenovo has some and dell has them too!

I wouldn't mind paying 100 more for a great battery ....how about you guys?

*PS my battery has declined from 4 hours on light web browsing to now like 3 hours...quite dissapointing.

*PPS ANyone getting battery wear on the slice or main battery yet?

HP just sent me a brand new battery, b/c I've been complaining a lot about the battery life (I was getting approx 3 hrs idle, lowest settings, no bluetooth/wireless and approx 7 w/slice). New battery shows no wear at all, BUT still only about 3 hrs (battery bar was showing 3:02) Envy 14, i5 520, 500gb hdd, 4gb ddr3, infinity radiance. How are people out there getting 5+ hours? Any help?

Could s.o with a working unit controls if the intel hd graphic chip is set to low energy (while using battery?)

I have just tested it at my tm2 and it was set to balanced, could someone test if there are any improvements if u set the the entry under "energy" to maximum battery ... "

just one entry below "energie plans" there is another "energy function" there u can tweak settings down to maximum battery live ...

I would appreciate it very much if any of u can test it, it may could be helpful ...

Forget about waiting for a BIOS update. Tell them that a bios update wont do anything since other users with the same bios version as you are getting better battery life. Also did u remove hp's bloatware? I would prefer to do a minimal installation as i get 56 processes at boot up and I can have the computer idle at 0% cpu usage.

Well, I'll look into it. I'm on vacation for 2 weeks though, so hopefully the update'll be out then, and when it doesn't work, I'll complain and get a new battery.

I haven't done a fresh install or removed some stock HP programs, as I'm terribly lazy about that kind of stuff.

Obviously the only way right now to increase batter life is to lower the discharge rate?

So is it concluded that the fresh install helps battery life?
There have been talks of those who did a fresh install but yet had discharge rates of 30,000 mWH with nothing running.

Has anyone else got the problem of the battery discharging over night when on hibernate? I have it plugged in all day and hibernate it at night (and unplug it) and then in the morning the charge is down to about 90%. Anyone else got this and know a fix? Have I got a bad battery? It says it has 3% wear oh and I'm getting 4:10 with a clean install. Anyone have any tips on how to improve it? Brightness is about 60%, wifi on, power saving battery option and GPU with 54 processes running on average.

Apparently my wear level is at -1% :\

    I'm getting about 3:10
    • integrated graphics
    • 50% brightness
    • 74 processes
    • Wifi On
    • Bluetooth off
    • HDD -> 7200rpm
    • Light web surfing

I'm extremely jealous of the 5 hour people :( !

Is there a way to reset the batterybar free statistics?

also, to reset batterybar, you need to uninstall batterybar, and delete all Batterybar files and registries.

Hp wants me to send in my Envy 14 for testing. They are sending me a box and said it would take aaround 7-10 days for analysis.
    i5 520
    1x4gb ddr3
    500gb hdd
approx 3+ hrs with standard battery (also with the replacement battery they sent to me)
    approx 6+ hrs with slice
    wifi off
    bluetooth off
    power saver
    lowest brightness
    integrated intel graphics
turn off hdd after 1 minute
    idle (no activity)
    removed some processes.

    This sucks.

For some reason, BatteryBar is estimating that it's taking longer to recharge my battery than it is to discharge it. I was getting around two hours to fully recharge it, but now it looks to be on pace for over four hours?

    I don't get what's going on.

I'm getting pretty crappy battery life as well. I did fairly well at one point - on track for 8+ hours with the slice (batterybar quoting 11k-15.5k draw, usually around 12.5k), but the last few days have been pretty poor - lifetime around 6 hours with the slice and light computing. At first, I thought it was due to some file transfers and a system backup that I did, but when the computer has been idle, batterybar has continued to report similar power draw as when it was transferring files (mostly from one partition on an AC-powered external hard drive), namely in the ballpark of 18k-22k mWh.

So now I'm faced with BatteryBar fairly accurately quoting me 6:20 with the slice, and if that's all I can get, I'm going to have to buy a second adapter for work (a bit of an F-you after shilling out $200 for the slice). I'm sticking to HP Recommended and Power Saver most of the time (both modified to no lid close action but otherwise stock), typically sticking around an average of maybe 7-10% CPU usage, Intel GPU, etc. I do typically have about 80 processes running, though, including a few for Chrome, a couple chat clients, a couple desktop gadgets, drivers for a couple on-again-off-again peripherals, and the like. I am on a minimal recovery with everything HP-branded removed, with the exception of HP Quicklaunch for the Function-keys.

So the question is: what are people doing to extend their battery life? I know from my first long-term off-AC experience that my Envy can reach respectable levels, but I'm not quite sure what I need to do to achieve that consistently.

just give it a second, batterybar said 2.30 hrs at my system as well, then it climbed up to approximately 4 hrs ...

    Another question:

Did anyone tried new intel hd drivers? any improvements on battery life?
