    I've found it in Germany:

HP 65 W Slim Adapter (AX727AA) Spezifikationen - HP Privatanwender Produkte

Envy 14 is under "Kompatibile Produkte" ;) I just hope the German and US versions have the same 65W adapters. I know Germans have different keyboard and Broadcom WiFi chip instead of Intel one. Hopefull it doesn't affect the adapter compatibility.

    (It shouldn't as this site:
HP Envy 14: Style and Power Starting at $999 (video) | Notebooks.com
takes a closer look on US Envy, and standard 65W adapter is noted.)

Hope to find it in Poland!

I haven't updated the ATI driver yet.
    1. Do I need an update to ver. 10.7?
    2. How long does it take for the black screen to go away and finish installing?
    3. Would this fix screen brightness control (fn + f2/f3) after resuming from sleep without AC adapter?
    4. Would this fix screen blinking for a second after right-clicking on background desktop after resuming from sleep?

    1. no you don't if you don't want to.

    2. the black screen doesn't go away you just wait til you think it's done installing then you reboot.

    3. No clue probably not, that's more of a bios thing.

    4. No clue.

Do you guys think my fan is going to turn off if I clean install Win7?
My laptop is almost perfect if I can at least turn off the blast fan..
Fan always full speed even though my CPU temp is 21c.. Weird..
Of course I disabled fan always on mode from bios setting..

Any thoughts on the above? In particular, I don't know the difference between dual core and quad core for the purposes of the graphics card. I selected the dual core card--was that a good choice?

Also, it looks like BCB expires today. If I buy today, will I still be elligible for BCB?

    Thanks,

It wouldn't allow you to select the quad-core version of the GPU with a dual-core processor. I don't know why HP even has them as options, you'd think it would be automatic.

There's no difference other than with a dual-core processor you have the option of switchable graphics.

I can't comment on the BCB, but I'd assume since it's the last day you're eligible.

Personally, I did not get any warranty with it (other than the 1-year that comes with it).

I think most of us skipped out on the warranty, as we expect it to last if we take care of it.

Yeah, I never purchase a warranty for anything. Just take care of your stuff and it should be fine. Although if you're clumsy, you should get it.

Does anyone know how many CDs I need to backup everything and do a clean install? I also need to make a windows 7 disc.

Got home and only had time to open up the box. Upon pulling the sock off the first thing is saw on the rear cover were gobs of glue and or scratches! The rear has similar markings as well. There's a smaller gap below the pad than my previous notebook and some scuffs on the left edge like before. The bottom of the unit has smudges like it was wiped with a wet dirty rag. They better not be reselling returns as new!

I'm currently not able to call CS but I will be shortly!

I called them and talked with a supervisor and it's the same old, send us your unit for another, I'm sorry, blah blah blah. I asked about being transferred to a QC department but there wasn't one. I asked to take the survey they advertise and was put on hold and then they dropped the call while on hold. I've never been passed to through the survey. Maybe I'll call just to take the survey.

Wow... That's some seriously bad luck! So far the second batch of Envy 14s has been pretty good.

If everything goes well, I'll get mine tomorrow... I really hope I have no problems, as I'm going to need it for when I get back to university.

You just have to hook the monitors then right click on the desktop, display resolution, then you can set an individual resolution for each screen you have. Select the extend desktop options, etc... Just click the the desktop numbers above the settings to choose which screen you want to setup.

you might be able to burn 'em through the recovery option when you hit f11 (or f9 or whatever it is) when you boot.

    otherwise you can order them.

Same problem... BIOS option Fan Always On option doesn't do anything for me. Does the option actually work for others? And temp is really high for me...
I have contacted HP support many times and here are the problems that were not fixed by the methods provided by HP.
    1. screen brightness control (fn + f2/f3) not working after resuming from sleep/hibernation *( the AC adapter disconnected)
*HP support suggested I update BIOS to the latest version(did not fix), also to reinstall ACPI Fixed Feature Button using Device Manager, under System devices (did not fix either).
    2. screen blinks for a second (turns black and comes back on) when right-click on the desktop background after resuming from sleep/hibernation. I don't know what the issue is. I've contacted HP support but didn't get a reply.
    3. In the BIOS setup, turning off "Fan Always On" option does nothing. Fan starts running from the push of power button.
lol. all HP told me was to return my unit because it's defective.

I don't have fan issues, but I do have the right click flashes black for a second after awakening from sleep issue. I'm thinking it's because of the 10.7 installation. Hmm....

Just got my Envy today. Currently...

    1. Making rescue discs. I'm going scorched earth on the HDD and completely repartitioning it, eliminating the restore partition. Rescue discs need 4 DVD-Rs, 4.7gb each, a USB thumbdrive that will be repartitioned and erased in full with more than 16gb space, or a bloody TON of CD-Rs.
    2. Copying the SWSetup to network backup in case I need anything from there.

I'm going to be doing a from-scratch Windows 7 Ultimate x64 install. Can anyone let me know 1) which drivers and/or utilities are absolutely necessary or highly useful and 2) If there are newer versions of anything on the HP website.

For reference, my Envy is a Quad Core model. I plan to download the ATI 10.7 Catalysts from the ATI website. Any word if the Synaptics driver that comes with SWSetup is better than one direct from the website? I assume its a multitouch clickpad driver, right? Any other drivers I should get from somewhere else?

Linux install comes after Windows install :D

I believe Synaptics has an updated driver online. I got my laptop yesterday and didn't check which version my laptop came installed with. Also you may need the HP wireless assistant, otherwise the WLAN light is always blue even when you turn it off.

Thanks firesauce - anyone confirm this? I really hate to muddy up wireless stuff. Speaking of wireless, does anyone know what model Wireless card (WLAN and Bluetooth both, if possible) their Envy comes with? I heard that some got Broadcoms, some got Intel. For bonus points, does anyone know how many poles/antenna points the WiFi ones uses? For instance, if I bought an aftermarket 6250 WiMax/IntelWiFi card, or an Intel 6300, I hear they require 3 antenna connections - not sure thought.

Also, I was just trying to extend my display to my 1920x1080 monitor and for some reason it wasn't working properly. It was getting shrunk onto a small portion of my external monitor. I tried searching and I couldn't find exactly what was done, but I saw somewhere that somebody changed the GPU scaling. For noobs like me who couldn't find where that was:

Got that from another forum, hehe.

*Side note: If you had to change your GPU scaling, you might still see a black border around your extended desktop on your other monitor... Probably because the windows 7 background was 1600x900! Try dragging a window around into the black :p

    Here's a question: Right now, I'm running on a 15-inch laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo T9500 @ 2.60GHz and a Nvidia Geforce 8700GT.
Would an Envy with an i5-520M and the 5650 have better performance than my current laptop?

Thanks, I'm reading through the owners lounge post 1. I'm sure this has been answered before but it isn't somewhere easily available, nor in the manual I got from the owners lounge - how do you get to the BIOS? Hitting Esc or DEL at boot doesn't seem to do the trick! For the moment, it doesn't seem that the Envy is willing to boot from my DVD of Win7 Ultimate so I can begin the clean install process, so I figured I'd have to go to the BIOS to change the boot order, but I can't seem to find the hotkey necessary to actually enter the BIOS. Think it would be in the service manual for technicians instead? Doesn't seem to be in any user documents.

    Thanks

spamming esc should get you to "what do you wanna do"

one of those options is F10, the bios.

otherwise just spam f10 as it boots. you have like 2 seconds to pull it off

I get 40ish for Cores and 49-50 for GPU when plugged in.

on battery it drops down to 38 or so. 34/35 I had earlier was well that's the first I've seen my computer do that.

Is the Beats fn+b shortcut having problems for anyone else? Instead of toggling it on and off, it simply opens more and more. Also, is it strange that it takes up 25% of the CPU?

I'm looking for confirmation that a 16gb or greater sdhc will be compatible with the e14. I checked the 'manual' that came with the laptop, the hp website, and tried searching the forums here, but I've found nothing concrete.

After many weeks of debating, I just pulled the trigger on Envy 14 and am very excited about it. However, I've read posts that told me how the CPU and GPU on Envy 14 was limited and under performs compared to the same CPU and GPU on other laptops. Is there any way to fix this issue? I tried to search on this forum, but didn't really find anything. So any help would be appreciated.

    CPU isn't underclocked.

GPU isn't underclocked either, technically. Radeon 5650 ranges from 450-650 Mhz depending on what ati and/or HP wanna do with the card. Envy 14 is at 450Mhz

you can bump the envy's radeon up with an OCing tool (MSIAfterburner after you change a line in the MSI Afterburner.cfg file) but how stable it will be varies from envy to envy.

Line you have to change is EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 0 to = 1

There's another thing hp should add to the gen 2's: a fn numpad.

Can we purchase a better 5650 card and just put it in the envy 14?

How would you go about changing it? I installed the software and can't seem to find where I'm able to.
