There is a service called, Power Manager, running in Services. (it's right under Power) Both seem to do the same function (manage power).
I didn't notice this but Power Manager can't be found in any other computers.
Is it part of HP bloat? perhaps something I should get rid of?

Yes, you're better off spending the money on a new TV. You can probably find a half-way decent 19" to 22" LCD TV for $200.

Well, uninstall the two USB root hubs then reboot and see what happens. Sometimes when you use certain USB devices, it causes some kind of fault and you lose connectivity. This happened to me once with an iPod and a DV5. Uninstalling the root hubs got that sorted out.

The hard way is to restore your computer back to factory original. It will put back the SWsetup folder.

I'm in a similar situation and spoke with HP about it today.

They informed me that a return or exchange will null the cashback. However, my CS agent mentioned that they could process an exchange after the cashback has been awarded. This resolution is possible because some agents are able to extend the return/exchange window to 80 days instead of the normal 21.

I was surprised by it too, but he said that it requires approval from management to offer the extension. That approval was applied for and granted while I was on the phone.

I don't think I'm a special case. I just made it very clear that I needed the Bing Cashback to the initial returns rep, who then transferred me to his supervisor to resolve the matter.

huh yeah I was reading mine wrong.

I have the same as you except I have TWO USB composite devices.

almost sounds like something wasn't hooked up right to the motherboard or something (unless the usb is a part of the motherboard..then the motherboard in general is broken).

either way...probably gonna have to RMA

    Glad for you.

I told them distinctly that I unless I get my issue with my SSD worked out I was going to return my laptop. I told her I have 40 more days before I receive my Bing Cashback. She said she could only extend my return to 30 days, which would put me 10 days shy of my Bing Cashback. She said that she couldn't do anything to help me. Grrrr.

My space key broke! It randomly happened and now, 90% of times, it doesn't work! Would I be able to RMA my Envy for a new one with the same specs as I ordered? I bought it when 1600x900 display was still offered as the stock option.

Yes, my CSR said they will talk to their supervisor to administer a $100 instant coupon to make up for the price raise on the Radiance Screen. It kind of pissed me off though because she was acting like she did me a big favor and stuff.

So I have 3 days left until 21 days replacement policy ends. My spacebar is defective and the only "help" HP offered was to return my laptop for a new one. I'm leaving for college soon and I don't have enough time for an exchange. Plus, I really like my Envy so far. What should I do?

Well, given your constraints, you might have to bite the bullet and keep it with plans of buying and installing a keyboard yourself. Use the service manual to installation directions and part number for the keyboard. (link on page 1 of owner's thread.)

No worries, replacing the keyboard won't void your warranty... unless you mess up. But it's too easy to mess up.

Sending it back is risky given the bugaboo rate of this notebook. So I get your dilemma.

When I open my Envy when it comes back from hibernation, the screen stays black. I have to close it and then open it once it has gone to sleep, then the screen works. Any thoughts on how to remedy this

I called to arrange my return today & HP said the exchange would not void my Bing Cashback because the return was due to a defective product. She said I would need to send Bing the original order #, new order # & explain that it was exchanged due to defect. She said she didn't have the ability to send me this statement via email, but it would be noted in the case file for future reference. I can assure you I will call back & make sure a supervisor sends me the statement in writing before my new 21 day grace period ends. But I would much prefer the extension until the cashback is in hand...

How do you open the battery door on this thing? My latch moves about an 1/8 of an inch & doesn't seem to do anything. I know it's been discussed, but could someone explain or point me in the right direction?

That happened with my first envy. Hate to say it, but It's most likely defective. I pushed the latch so hard because it would not move, only a tiny bit, that I actually broke it off.

With my new envy, the latch opens with ease and I could definitely tell that my last one had something wrong with the latch.

    I have a question now.
I am having trouble switching between ATI and Intel Graphics.
I open the menu, and select the GPU I wish to use, unfortunately. Nothing happens.
Tried this with 10 programs open, and tried it with 0 programs open. Even Re-booting cant fix this.
It also doesn't switch when changing power sources. (Although a re-boot fixes this problem)

It really ticks me off, because I cant switch the GPUs on demand, I have to reboot, disconnect from power, and select cancel to use ATI Graphics on battery, and then if I ever need to switch over, I have to re-boot the machine! Can anyone help?

Did you update your drivers at all? I have found updating drivers has killed several things on my PC. But using my guide in my sig, I was able to get everything working fine again.

I did actually update to 10.7, I just reinstalled the video drivers from sw_setup tho. Maybe your guide says different. Checking it out now! Will edit in an hour or so.
Also, has anyone noticed the keys in the "p" region, and the "w" region, and the left side of the space-bar dont register as well as the others?

{Edit} Well, It fixed my problem, however I am still stuck at 10.3, not the 10.7a graphics drivers. I dont really understand how this is possible, seeing I used the auto-installer/extracting .exe for the 10.7 drivers. Although I Have to ask, do I have to do this every time I update my video drivers?... Seems like a pain since drivers come out every couple of months.
Thankyou so much for that guide tho. I usually just fix things by tinkering with them, which ends up breaking other things........ +1 rep for you!

Make sure you downloaded the 10.7a drivers from my guide and not used 10.7 drivers if you downloaded them previously, it can fail driver install and break other things. Do the full cleaning of drivers again if you go to install 10.7a. Plus use "custom" install, although select everything, except deselect hydravision if you want to, not required.

But before you do a wipe and clean install of drivers again, if you used the 10.7a drivers link from my guide, then just run the 10.7a installer again. It should update your drivers and most likely without blanking your screen (it may flicker though). Otherwise if you used 10.7 (not 10.7a) you will have to do a clean install of drivers according to my guide again.

You shouldn't have to do this every time drivers are released, however, the problem is that we don't know if newer drivers support or break stuff on the Envy 14 or not. So best let some guinea pig figure it out first. I probably will, and will be sure to update my guide accordingly.

I just recently received my new HP Envy 14 this past Monday. I was very happy with it and didn't seem to find any problems with it. However, there seems to be something wrong with the screen.

this only happens maybe once a day and stays like that for few minutes. When I move my mouse, it would sometimes go from the first picture to the second. I'm not sure what's wrong with it and I would like to know how to fix it. Also, how serious is this problem? Should I return my Envy and get a new one?

Perhaps the video cable is loose. (Well, not really since it happens intermittently without moving the screen.)

    Consider RMA'ing the unit.

I thought I read online that 10.7 doesn't support switchable graphics? I'm on driver 8.713.0.0, and everything is working perfectly for me. Doesn't matter when I switch, powered or battery, it works every time!

    Edit: Should I update?

No ATI driver d/l from ATI supports switchable graphics. Only the custom one you are using that came with the Envy. So what peeps are doing is installing any updated driver on top of the factory installed one. That keeps the switchable graphics intact.
