So I'll keep you guys updated as I have the DV6t-6100.
So let's see how it goes.

    Thank You.

Wow, I was gone for a few days and 6 pages of posts :)

Just wanted to report back that I set up my Linksys E3200 Dual Band router this morning and results are very good.

On my old (G-only) router, both the stock WiFi card and this new one maxed out at 1MB/sec upload and download. When I set up the new router, I initially had the same SSID for the 2.4 GHz and the 5GHz bands, thinking Windows would automatically choose the faster one, which it didn't. At that point, on the 2.4GHz band I was getting 144 Mbps "link speed", and 8-8.5MB/sec upload and download. Then I changed the SSIDs so I could choose the 5GHz band myself, and I immediately got a link speed of 300 Mbps. Curiously, my upload speed increased to 13.5MB/sec, while my download speed stayed about the same at 8MB/sec (actually decreased to 7MB/sec on one of the test runs).
All speeds were measured with LAN Speed Tester reading and writing 20 x 1MB files to my Ubuntu server which is connected directly to the router at 1Gbps.

I haven't done much tweaking with it yet so I may be able to get further performance increases. Also, this is running the stock firmware on the router; at some point I'll probably install DD-WRT.

For those asking about Bluetooth: when I had to transfer some files from my phone over the weekend, the Bluetooth worked perfectly.

My "link speed" is consistently 300 Mbps as well with very good range. This card exceeded my expectations.

    Thanks again...

I know this is off topic, but since a lot of us have been looking for replacement parts to make our existing HP notebooks better, has anybody found a good 9 cell battery other than from HP?

    Thanks in advance...

I bought the HP 9 cell for my DV6 in my sig. I also have an Ebay 9 cell. The HP is much better. YMMV. I would strongly recommend the Seagate Momentus XT in my sig. Not SSD but a significant upgrade to my Toshiba 750 GB HD.

    Thanks Husky55,

I kinda had a feeling that would be the case with the batteries, that's why I was asking for recommendations. I don't want to spend $120 for a battery from HP if I can find a good one somewhere else. I should have bought one from HP when they had it 50% off when I bought my notebook and had a 33% off coupon. I just didn't think I would use it. :(

I'll keep an eye out for the Seagate Momentus XT.

You have a dv7 so the HP 9 cell will last significantly longer than the 6 cell, it's protruding at the bottom so in some way it's better for ventilation.

The Ebay 9 cell was the same size and shape but for whatever reason is not any better than the HP 6 cell I have. When I bought my dv6, I bought both the 6 and 9 cell batteries so there was a substantial savings.

The price of HD is very high at the moment, I would wait for the Seagate 750 Momentus XT price to come down, hopefully soon. I need a few 3 TB HDs for my server.

I have been looking for a dual band wifi adapter for my dv6 since I bought it. Really hope that the Ralink works for me as I bought the used one. I have had dual band routers for a while.

Not sure if these are in your price range:

They have a Original HP Battery for $80 including shipping:
    NEW! Genuine HP 9-cell 100Wh DV6 DV7 Extended-Life Battery (MU09) Original G6 G7 | eBay

Amazon seller has it for $67 fulfilled by Amazon:
Amazon.com: HP Long Life Notebook Battery (HP MU09): Electronics
Or Amazon has it for $106.

It worked that way for me. I bought my HP dv7tqe-6c00 without bluetooth and now after installing the Ralink 3592BC8, I have bluetooth.

Just make sure your BIOS has the Ralink 3592BC8 in the BIOS "white list".

    Hi guys,

a dumb question maybe, but how and where do I check, if the card is on the white list for my dv6-6b55eg with F.12 Bios (not modded)?

    Thanks...

You could ask iyshannon (original thread starter) really nice and point him to the EXACT BIOS you are asking about and he might be able to tell you. Make sure you are looking at the same Intel F.12 BIOS everyone here is referencing.

No, this guy removes the whitelist: [Unlocked, sp54724] HP Dv6-6135dx [amd]

The strange thing is that there are drivers for this card for my model of laptop. I tried an Intel 6230 with same issue. Guess I'm stuck with the crap Broadcom.

The card (Ralink 3592BC8) we have been discussing here is for the Intel based notebooks using the Intel based BIOS F.12

If I read your signature correctly, you have an AMD based notebook. That might be why the card is not listed in your BIOS.

Typically, if the BIOS is not RSA signed (can't be modded right now) like the HP Intel F.12, the guys at bios-mods.com (Camilo) will remove the white list while a couple of guys at mydigitallife.com (ipmark is one) will add cards to the BIOS.

I was under the impression the HP F.12 Intel BIOS was RSA signed and the white list could not be removed. The reason I say this is because I tried quite a few variations of the modded BIOS by Camilo @ bios-mods.com without any luck and someone at mydigitallife.com told me the BIOS could not be modified because it was RSA signed (check of some type).

As for the drivers being available, I haven't checked for myself for your computer so I can't say for sure.

Well that's the Intel not the AMD. So far the Camilo BIOS have been great. Overclock GPU by default and unlock lots of other nice features like adding fixed GPU option, turn off CnQ so no CPU throttling, etc.

Interesting, my card has the same SPS#630813-001. See below. When I put your HP Part Number ( 629887-001) into HP Part Surfer it does not find the part number in the HP parts database.

I did take a look at the card you have for sale and it does appear to have the same SPS#630813-001 that mine has so I'm not sure what is going on with the card you have.

Installed card, disabled generic BT, installed sp55805.exe
all appears good... but I haven't tried EVERYTHING

I received my used $14 Ralink 3592BC8 card off Ebay. I didn't spend too much time looking at it (other than to verify that it was a 3592BC8) so I can't really say in detail what it looks like.

I installed the full driver from the Ralink site:
    IS_AP_STA_RT2860_D-3.2.7.0_VA-3.2.7.0_W7-3.2.7.0_RU-4.1.4.0_AU-4.1.2.0_112311_1.5.16.0WP_Free

The card works in my HP dv7t-6c00 w/ BIOS F.12, and Bluetooth works perfectly. I have not speed tested anything yet as I left home and am traveling for a few weeks.

Thanks all involved for this solution.

I was having a bit of a strange issue connecting to a 2Wire (att) dsl modem/(G)router. I would always stay connected to the router, but occasionally, at the point of trying to access a new (link) page, the DSL connection would fail(?!) and need to re-establish itself. Using the above driver/utility, I was able to (configure) run in pure 2.4GHz mode ... which seems to solve the issue...

posted too soon... still an issue ...

[ Is there a way to disable the (rather recent) javascript 'social access' bar at the bottom of the screen... or at least have it default minimized??? ]

Notebook is dv7t-6C00 purchased this past January with the Intel WiFI 1030 including Bluetooth. I never used the bluetooth and don't really have any current need of it. Not sure if I should have done something to disable it prior to swapping cards (someone above referenced doing that) so it might account for some of the odd things I've seen.

My $14 WiFi card arrived an hour ago. Install was easy enough. And I guess it is safe to say it is working. But it has not been without some drama and unresolved questions/issues.

1st boot: Everything appeared normal through the BIOS stuff. Well at least that went smoothly. When it attempted to launch the WiFi connection it stopped with a BSOD. Basically it said it stopped because the BIOS detected something amiss and it was shutting down to protect the hardware.

2nd boot: Booted into SAFE MODE. Went okay - so I installed the Ralink driver refered to in the 1st post of this thread. Install went fine - almost too quickly for comfort, but it seemed okay so I restarted.

3rd boot: This time I let it boot normally. It booted okay and then stated it could not find a network connection. I opened the WiFI icon on the taskbar and chose the WIFI connection here at work. It balked at the login initially, but then went ahead and joined the domain and was up and running.

Seems to be working okay. The company WiFi does not have 5GHz so I didn't know exactly what to expect. But on my old Intel card I consistently got 72MHz connections. Now I am getting 130-144MHz consistently. Seems good.

Then the fun began. I checked Device Manager to make sure everything was okay. Under Network Adapters I have the following device showing a caution icon (yellow exclaimation mark):

Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #3

Device Status: This device is not working properly because WIndows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31).

So - I disabled the device. This got rid of the cauction icon, but I'm not quite sure what this virtual WiFI thing is.

Next I Uninstalled this device. Still works okay. So I did a SCAN FOR NEW HARDWARE - big mistake. Another BSOD and as best as I can recall it is same as the earlier one. So I reboot again.

4th (or is it 5th?) boot: All goes fine again. And it restored the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #3" again. Still has the caution icon. Says same error under Device Status.

I can for now leave it Disabled and everthing seems fine. But I do notice that the tasktray icon for "My WiFi Utility" is grayed out. So perhaps this virtual WiFI has to do with that My WiFi utility? Not something I expect to ever need. Not sure how to rid myself of it though.

Summary. New card works with a few quirks remaining. If anyone has insight to share please let me know.

Oh - I did install the newer driver referenced a few post earlier. It also installed a Ralink WiFi utility. It has an 11/14/2011 driver date (version 3.2.7.0) And seems to work fine.

    Update-
I uninstalled two Intel drivers related to the old WiFi card. One for the WiFi card itself and a second one for the Intel Bluetooth. Obviously with the Ralink card swap these are no longer available so the software probably needed to be removed.

This resolved the problem with the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter now showing that it is working properly. Not sure what that means - but properly is good.

No further issues to report. So the swap seems to work and everything seems stable at the moment. Will report if anything related to this developes.

Any idea what became of my Bluetooth? I believe it was there before the WiFi card swap. But since putting in the Ralink card I've yet to see any evidence that bluetooth exists.

Not that it matters much to me. I haven't used it nor do I anticipate such a need. But it is curious that it vanished. I do have a Bluetooth service that is running. But no sign of the actual BLuetooth in Device Manager or elsewhere.

I installed this driver. I can run with either the Ralink (Generic) BT or the Broadcom 2070, but ONE must be disabled.

I can get HotSpot functionality using Connectify Lite, but can't seem to get Win7 Soft AP configured correctly... Devices connect, but I never get internet connectivity... must be missing some detail.

Ive got a dv6tqe which has been great, but now, now I'm thinkin' how about a dv7tqe. Looking at the good prices showing up as the new models are just around the corner I wonder what improvements to expect if any from the next gen. The only thing that is holding me back is the possible back lit keyboard and unforeseen windows 8 compatibilities. Is there something I'm missing? I've been thinking of taking the good deals now then returning the dv7 if I like the next gen better.

I ordered the $14 dollar card and installed the card. Then installed the hp drivers The card appeared to be new so far working fine. All is well So far so good.

Now I'm cloning a ssd drive and then I'll put that in and I should be all set If the ssd clones the harddrive as it should The laptop will be a done deal.

    Hi guys,

I am going to update the original post to make it clear that at this point this card only works on the Intel systems and the various BIOS versions it has been tested with. I know F.12 and F.1B and I had checked for someone with an F.02 but doesn't look like he posted back, does anyone have this installed with an F.02 BIOS? If I missed any others let me know, I will try to keep the first post up to date.

'cause it isn't that simple; different series dv7-6x00, where x= 0,1,b,c all sport different bios versions IDs. (btw F.1B might be assumed to be newer than F.12 ... in the hexidecimal domain).

    =======================================
So explain to me once again why "update to F12" would simply suffice

No, the InsydeFlasher won't flash a F.1B on any dv6-6[b/c]xx. Nor will it flash the F.02/F.12 on the dv6-6[0/1]xx series. So, you can't say F.1B "might" be newer than F.12 because they are not for the same hardware!

Also, hasn't the F.12 replaced all the F.02 for the dv6-6[b/c]00 series?
You know we have this nice list of all the latest bioses right here:
