No idea what they'll put in next...I doubt they'll put anything in that's too powerful though. This laptop is too thin to dissipate large amount of heat for the GPU efficiently.

What are the performance differences between the different CPU options for the DV6t?
-
Here are my scores with catalyst 11.6. Are you sure you have turbo boost enabled? Are you using performance for cool sense?
3DMark Score6682 3DMarks
Graphics Score5571
CPU Score16637
Jane Nash16 FPS
New Calico15 FPS
AI Test2303 operations/s
Physics Test22 operations/s -
Yeah it kinda looks like his laptop may not have been plugged in or something is throttling back the CPU. You can see from his results that the biggest difference was in the AI test and Physics test, which both require the CPU to be going at full speed (@ 2.5/6 ghz on turbo boost)

Do you guys recommend updating to 11.6 drivers from stock? I'm weary of doing the update because when I updated to 11.5b drivers from stock, it caused DX11 to fail for me.
-
I'm sticking with stock, I'm hearing about performance degradation with 11.6. Am I wrong?
- Qlippoth -
My scores are even worse! What am I doing wrong? Should I contact HP about getting a replacement?
3DMark Score 6082 3DMarks
Graphics Score 4990
CPU Score 17687
Jane Nash 14 FPS
New Calico 14 FPS

I have a dv6t-6100, 8gb ram, 6770m 2gb. I'm currently using the most recent HP released drivers 8.830.6.2000 -
mine is plugged in, and updated to 11.6 idk why my CPU is soo low!!!!! I think i should get a replacement..

Hi I'm Italian. How run Empire Total War at native resolution (1366 * 768) on Ultra with Directx 11 ?
thank you for the reply -
Sorry for the delay. With dx11 patch plus new textures I am getting in the 40's on high (and hit 78 while staring at a brick wall) and 15 on ultra with a max of 21ish.
-
Just outta curiosity, checked my performance in Mass Effect 2...
Model: DV6Tq
Processor: i7-2630QM
GPU: 1GB Radeon HD 6770M
RAM: 6GB
Settings: Fullscreen, Everything turned on, which I guess in equivalent to High?
Resolution: 1920 x 1080
Max FPS: 47
Min FPS: 41 -
Nice. I bought ME2 off of D2D during the sale, just waiting for my DV6 to get here. So ready for the 1080p goodness!
Btw how's the screen? Are the black levels/contrast good? -
sweet. is ur card overclocked?
-
the screen is amazing. just amazing. best laptop screen i've had yet. things look very sharp, blacks look quite nice, as does contrast. really ejoying playing on it so far.
-
How well does it run Crysis 1 and 2 on FHD? At high settings or above.
-
Nope, no overclock.
-
I tried to run it on ultra (1366x768) but it would lag a little bit (only naval battles are playable on ultra). Then I tried everything on high and I get 35-60 fps
-
the 1080 screen is all kinds of awesome. Best screen I've seen on a mass market lappy.
-
11.6 has been flawless for me both in games and gives me the best benchmarks:
3DMark Score
6860 3DMarks
Jane Nash
17 FPS
New Calico
15 FPS
AI Test
2391 operations/s
Physics Test
23 operations/s
Crysis 2 will play in FHD at high settings with average mid-40 to low-50's FPS. -
Finally i can give my updates...got my machine...cant agree more with Dave...love the screen

I think you have the min and max fps mixed around
Score are...okay I guess. MW2 really isn't that demanding of a game so I was expecting a stable fps 70+ for this laptop -
I should probably update this thread huh
-working on it-
-
I'm calling BS on this... I finished the game and i got nowhere near 60-70 on High and Very High was even slower. What settings do I need to have to have the most optimal fps?
-
Perhaps he does not turn on anti aliasing? I have heard you don't need AA at high resolutions such as 1920 x 1080
-
LOL. you know what. even I myself am extremely confused. the results of crysis 2 that I posted earlier were on my brother's laptop. I cant seem to get anywhere near that kind of fps on my own laptop (we both have dv6t, just that I have 8 GB ram and 750 GB HDD while he has 6 GB ram and 500 GB HDD).
on my laptop, I can actually feel a significant lag when i pan left or right. but on my brother's laptop, it's all literally very smooth with no lag whatsoever.
I think i have already asked earlier in this thread why I couldn't hit that kind of fps like I could on my brother's laptop. -
Quick question regarding Steam and specifically Team Fortress 2. I have a dv6tqe-6000 and when I'm in a game with headphones on (game sounds going through headphones), and a friend initiates a voicechat with me, the laptop pipes the voice chat audio through my headphones but then changes the game sounds to the built-in HP speakers? I can see how this would be useful for some but any way to make both the voice chat audio and game sounds too all go through my headphones? This is the first laptop I've used that didn't do this. I've poked around some Windows/Steam sound settings to no avail. Thank you in advance.
-
cotton_mouth, did you overclock the 6770m, given that you have a dv6003tx which can be overclocked?
what models do you and your brother have? do you have the newer quad edition dv6t -
Those Crysis 2 numbers are pretty surprising. I'll probably snag it and give it a go once my machine comes in. I have it for the 360 but the 360 version looks pretty bad.
-
I've been having trouble reliably switching my graphics cards. Somtimes it takes a few restarts before the changes take. Say I'm playing MKVs on the ATi, I switch to the Intel and I get crazy macroblocking, artifacts al over the place. I switch back and it plays fine on the ATi.
Duke Nukem Forever, sometimes I'm still using the Intel even though I change the card a few time to make sure I'm using the ATi.
I have the DV7T-60XX series with manual switching.
I CAN use th eIntal, and I CAN use the ATi, but determining which is on is difficult. I tend to wait a few minutes and check the battery times while not plugged in to see if it's an hour or so, or several ours (Intel).
- Qlippoth -
Don't switch while it is running. There is a warning to close all application before switching.
Failure to do so, results in weird video behavior. <- Common issue with manual switchables on Intel Chipsets. -
OK after comparing scores, I'm getting really worried that my 3D Vantage score is only 6082 compared to other's with the dv6t-6100. It's already too late for me to return it, but do you guys think I should try getting a repair? If so, I don't even know what to say to them...because I doubt that would care what the benchmarks are
-
Don't switch while it is running? You mean make sure all apps are closed before switching? Or is there some method to switch while the machine is off?
- Qlippoth -
Well, that's what my second sentence implies.
-
Mine used to do this. I disabled one of the sound devices and it went away (The communications one). Hope this helps.
-
nope. didn't overclock my dv6003tx. my brother has dv6035tx. and what do u mean the newer quad edition dv6t? if by that u mean the 6100 series, then no i don't have those models. i basically grabbed the LAST dv6003tx that they had...cos i was pretty intent on getting the manual switchable graphics
-
Correction guys...with everything maxed out in COD Mw2 am getting 35-45 fps with anti allaying 4x...is this good 1080 p resolution ??...plz ignore my previous scores...that was a minutes test with fraps ...apologies for the wrong info earlier
-
Does the anti-aliasing make a noticeable difference in quality?
Either way, 40 FPS with all settings maxed out is pretty damn good for a $1k machine. -
Are you sure....considering ....it's MW2 ??? This game was launched 2 years back....and others have reported higher frame rates..so I was Wondering
-
Where have they gotten higher framerates? I'm not reading back through this whole thread.
In the OP, it says 55 FPS with 1366x768.
MW2 still has pretty good graphics by 2011 standards. The original Crysis came out in 2007 and it still looks pretty impressive. -
Is that 40 fps all maxed on 1920 x 1080?
-
Yeah 35-45 fps...approx......is that good??
Or maybe I was considering m14x...in exchange...if this isn't the standard -
You're honestly not going to get that much more performance out of the m14x. I'm not sure what you're expecting for framerates but 40 fps is fine.
-
LOL sorry...i have been out of pc gaming for 7 years now...mainly console...now gonan get back with this machine....so just wanted to confirm am getting the right machine.....anything beyong this isnt affordable for me also ...so i geuss its a great machine
-
Did you notice that the PC version of MW2 looks better than the console version? I'm honestly kind of disgusted by the way console games look now. Just finished the 360 version of Crysis 2 last night. Awesome game, but some of the visuals looked like hot garbage.
-
yeah.....it did seem amazing.........though i love my PS3 too
...so what are your thoughts on the dv6? did you like it??
on second...thoughts i might need to send back my dv6t ...thr is no international warranty on the dam thing....unlike dell....this is so dissapointing
-
It sounds right
You got any benchmarks for other games trooper? Max settings 1920 x 1080? -
I just got GTA IV...let me try it out and post it .
-
Mine comes in on Tuesday. I've got a lot of games ready to load up on it. Portal 2, Crysis, Dragon Age, Deus Ex 3 (when it comes out).

Well, for the most part, most console games are only 720p. Some are 1080p, but much like with PC hardware, it's a struggle to balance fidelity with performance. Some are actually neither and up-sampled from a lower resolution. I seem to recall some good kicking and screaming about Halo 3 only really being 540p, but I could be thinking of a different game.
Console hardware of this generation is getting a little long in the tooth. The Xbox 360 is already 6 years old if you count it's E3 debut year as the technology would have been fairly advanced at that time. It just can't handle the texture throughput compared to a PC, but PC gamers have always kind of known that. If you wanted great looking games, it always had to be on the PC first.
I've got both a 360 and PS3 at home, but they are mainly now relegated to playing console exclusives. Anything that's multiplatform where the superior version (either graphically or in play) is the PC is where I would get it for. Dragon Age: Origins is a prime example.
Well... except maybe Mass Effect 3. I kind of want to carry through my original Xbox 360 ME1 Sheppards all the way through the end.
-
Thanks mike, I thought I tried that but I'll give it another go next time I get a chance to play.
Also, in a game like TF2 (not that graphically intense by today's standards) I am playing it pretty much maxed-out graphical settings (4xAA 8xAF) at 1366x768 res so I get (from the built-in FPS check) like 70+ FPS. But quite often the game just stutters/freezes for about 1.5-2secs at a time. I check the temps on the laptop (it feels quite warm) and HWMonitor is telling me the CPU (Core i7-2630QM) and GPU (ATI 6770m) is both at around 70deg C. Is that too hot? Maybe I should get one of those USB fans to go underneath the laptop.
