I'm wondering if that is what is causing the video card switch (I have a 6000, manual switching) to fail in some circumstances... Seems like:
1. Sometimes my graphics card fails to switch from the Intel to the ATi or the reverse (Couldn't get Duke Nukem to play smooth like normal, when the setting panel SAID it was using the ATi, which it was NOT), and
2. The Intel won't play back video properly, either FLV or AVI... Lots of macroblocking. Maybe it's NOT really switching? When I switch back it was fine.
Anyone with the 6000 might see if staying with the default factory drivers solves their auto-switching issues...

I repasted with AC5 and now when I run 3dMark Vantage the cores are 8-10C cooler
but now I have a small problem...
My fan is running at full blast all the time. I reseated the fan cable, looked for options in the BIOS, even tried to change Coolsense. Nothing has changed it. Any ideas? -
Since you are using AC5, it takes awhile to cure. Just make sure you give it some time to cool down once in a while for like a week.
You would see some better results than initially ran after awhile.
I'm assuming you didn't accidentally short something. -
Yeah I know about the 200 hour cure time, but any ideas about the fan problem?
PS the temps are lower, so it's not kicking in due to the temp. -
Well, I could think of another way but I don't think you like it.
I'm pretty sure someone could come by and respond with something much better than what I'm thinking. -
does the 2GB 6770M from the dv-6100 perform much differently from the 1GB 6770M on the dv-6000?
-
-
PS: I can't find the HP page with all the replacement parts. Anyone know where it is? -
I can't get DiRT 3 to play in fullscreen. Either via Alt + Tab or editing Config File...
It tries to switch (screen goes black) but then you hear an error sound (the ding!) and it comes back to windowed. If I force start in Full Screen via editing the config file you can see it start in full but right away switch to windowed...
I've updated the Drivers, etc. And this only happens on the 6770m and not Intel HD Graphics. But obviously I want to play on the 6770m... -

-
So now that the stinking dynamic switchable graphics saga is in full gear....
Which games or emulators so far that have an OpenGL option don't run properly?
Any interim solutions that have worked? Or does the Intel IGP do things fine? -
Adobo Photoshop, Minecraft, and FSX are all opengl and the ati graphics cannot be used. -
The ATI card cannot be chosen in the game Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
-
So....
OpenGL based, not working at all on 6100 version:
Dolphin Wii emulator
Amnesia: Dark Descent
OpenGL option highly preferred, still working on IGP:
Adobe Photoshop
Minecraft
FSX
Let's keep adding. Maybe a generated list will be something a bunch of us can submit to HP/AMD to persuade fixing the 6100 version of the HP dv6/dv7. Please correct the above or start a new thread if you wish with 2 sections: OpenGL only and not working versus OpenGL on IGP with unacceptable FPS. -
Doesn't Dolphin Wii emulator have a directx plug in to use? Shouldn't that make it work? Anyone try the PS2X emulator?
And not to be off topic, but has anyone here been able to run Civilization 5 in DX11 mode? DX9 works fine for me, but when I launch it with DX11, it gets extremely slow and even the mouse cursor stutters when trying to click on menu items. -
I also tried the PCSX2 emulator for PS2 emulation and i got bad fps. I pretty sure its because it was using the intel graphics.
DeSmuMe on the other hand works perfectly for DS emulation. -
Wait, Wait. Are you telling me there's something permanant wrong with these computers that forces them to not play half the games on the market!? Is this a hardware issue or are they actually going to fix it? I JUST got a new one of these today after my last one not working at all and I look at THIS after not being able to play MINECRAFT because of OpenGL... I'm starting to want to waste my money on a Mac just because I've already gotten two broken ones of these stupid things... They are going to fix this, right.....?
-
-
I say that it is something that a software patch can and will fix. If not, HP better provide reparations.
-
I think that HP is not hearing us yet. They are content to just stick their head in the sand and tell us that the 6770 will kick in and it is so seamless that you wont even know it has happened. I tried to tell them Friday when I was on the phone with tech sup all day long while they were monking with the drivers on my computer. They just did not respond to the comment that this computer will not play openGL games. It was like they did not hear me say that. They just kind of ignored it. I was just trying to get some indication that the 6770 card was working at all since HWiNFO64 did not ever show that the card ever kicked in. I finally did see it kick on running Heaven and the strange thing was that both the Intel and ATI graphics were running at the same time. Anyone else see this happening?Tried to run the 3D Mark free but it would not allow the viewing of HWiNFO64 while it eas on and turned it off when it began. Anywho since I was no gamer I could not say to tech support that I could not play certain games since I dont know what games it will not play. Is it that it will not play the open gl games or that it will play them only using the Intel graphics and they dont have high functionality? Tech support told me that the only way to make sure it was running was to run an HD movie through the HDMI port on an external monitor and that would kick on the ATI card but there was no way to actually see that the ATI card was working. I find that hard to believe since this freewarw program HWiNFO64 shows you what is working and not working. Im sure they have ways to tell otherwise how would you design a switchable graphics system? What do they tell you guys when you call them and tell them that this or that game will not play?
-
Do not know what you guys are complaining about. I'm getting all the satisfaction I expected from a mid-range consumer laptop.
-
Didn't think so... -
-
-
Want your voice heard? Refund the laptop and get something else. Eventually lack of sales will trigger management to respond. -
There are a fair number of reviews on both the dv6 and the dv7 right on the HP site that are not very flattering which do expose this problem for ALL to see. If that does not catch the eye of those who want to keep their job at HP and influence them to put out a fix for this then I dont know what will. That is a real nice dump right in thier own front yard. It WILL NOT help their sales or thier image if they do not address this. I dont know about you guys but I look at reviews of everything before I buy it. I decided to keep my notebook as yesterday was the passing of the 21st day of ownership of this notebook. I feel confident that a fix is forthcomming. But who knows when. In the interum Im sure that HP's sales of these products will fall off and they will wake up if they have not already. After all who of you would like to have a big sign in your front yard saying "IDIOT LIVES HERE!".

ya so did anyone benchmark Mass effect 2 on the 6770m ?

Anyone try crysis 2 with the Dx11 texture pack?
-
-
-
So what is your FPS with the new DX11 patch for crysis 2? -
I just got my laptop last Friday, so I'm new to it and its issues a bit.
I've heard about this switchable graphics mess, and it certainly has scared me. What I want to know is if the Oblivion/Bioshock bundle and SC2 will work with the Radeon... And is there a list of games that are not supported by the switchable graphics.
Lastly, should I phone customer support, even though I haven't ran into this problem yet? It seems as if they are not listening, and I'd really like to put my arguments 2 cents in and directly hear from them...
Sorry that I'm new to this, but thanks for the help -
Direct X Games Work 100% On The Dv6t.
That Means 99% Of Modern Games Except Minecraft.
Only People Who Should Be Worried Are Those Who Use Intensive 3d Modeling Graphics Programs. -
-
-
-
That long list is wrong. Many games have OpenGL modes as well as DirectX modes, on Windows it uses DirectX so there is nothing to worry about.
Only MODERN games with exclusive OpenGL is Minecraft, Quake Live, and I cant' think of anything else.
This is hardly a state of the art computer, it's a budget gaming laptop. -
Well I dont know what else one would want to make it a state of the art computer. It has the latese Intel Sandy Bridge CPU and quite a nice Dedicated Graphics Card. Also a very nice HD display and SATA III Drive interface as well as USB3.0 ports. Not to mention dual HDD Bays. What is it missing that would make it state of the art?
-
-
Nice computer, but certainly not the best.
If someone wanted to use intensive modelling programs, they would get a computer with CUDA support. -
Is it an AMD issue? My last computer had an AMD processor and that was the worst decision I could have made at the time. -
Minecraft works, it just won't use your 6770m. The HD 3000 will play it OK but not at the highest settings.
Test it out and see whether you're satisfied first. -
I turned all the settings to the lowest and I do notice an improvement. At least it's pretty much playable now! Thank you jiggawhat.
Fingers are still crossed that somehow eventually it will work on the 6770. -
i did 3d vantage and it saids my score is low compared to similar systems.. any advices?
3DMark Score 6250
Graphics Score 5297
CPU Score 13584
Jane Nash 15 FPS
New Calico 15 FPS
AI Test 1861 operations/s
Physics Test 18 operations/s -
Is there a GPU stronger than 6770m upgrade coming on the DV6/7 soon?
The 6770m is pretty mighty on 768p gaming, considering the overall price of the DV6.
Just wondering if I should wait a little longer for even a beefier GPU on the DV6. -
