Hey guys quick question, im running cs source at 1080p on my dv6tqe (almost full specs) and getting FPS in the 100s. But my temps get hot really fast, I basically have to take breaks every round or two ( which is a very short time ) because my laptop heats up to the mid 80s within a minute or two. I have a laptop cooler too, the zalman nc2000, and it still gets hot.

Do you guys get the same thing? And how do I deal with it?

Open the console in CSS (enable it in the options, then press the ~ button), and use the command

    fps_max 60

That will lock your framerate at 60fps (a 60Hz monitor doesn't display more than 60 frames anyways) and reduce the load on your GPU.

Mid-80s is fine for a laptop, though. They're designed to go near 100.

Thanks, also is the zalman a good cooler for gaming purposes? I read good reviews online so I got it, but it only seems to make a 3-4 degree difference (I dont know what to expect from a cooler)

that's what I assumed at first, but I made sure to set it to high performance and I can here the radeon card when the game is playing. Maybe it's just the servers. It is a mmo, guess it's just not optimized well enough.

Hey guys, have anyone played Fear 3? On 61xx with 1366x768 display, playing game on default dx11 mode, the screen appears as shifted to the left a little bit making the right side with a black border. Top & bottom are ok. Changing config manually to run game on dx9 mode corrects it but you lose in quality of course. I am asking if anyone has the game and found a fix.

*** Fixed *** With HP's new bios, changing to fixed mode from dynamic corrects the above problem for all affected games.

In an older game like CSS, 120+ fps is to be expected, even at high resolutions and AA. Make sure you don't have Vertical Sync (VSync) enabled.

Ahh, since the title says for 6xxx series just assumed 6100 was part of that too. That kind of sucks though. Wonder if they will ever make overclocking possible.

turn it off (in all games for the matter) and what fps do you get now?

Vsync is really only necessary if you notice screen tearing. Basically it caps your framerate at your screen's refresh rate, and waits for a monitor refresh to draw a new frame.

Like jiggawhat says, you can generally leave It off, especially if you're just benchmarking.

Should be able to, in theory. AMD's switchable graphics and Nvidia's Optimus are fundamentally the same type of technology. The LCD is wired directly to the IGP, and the GPU renders to the display through the IGP. You can o/c Optimus even though it is in this muxless configuration, so it should be possible to do the same with the 61xx's 6770M when drivers and tools can support it.

I remain hopeful. I don't think I would need to o/c it any time soon, but down the road when the GPU isn't as up to snuff for games of tomorrow it might give a needed boost.

Well, I've learned to never put faith in something that might happen when it comes to technology. Usually there's some avid and intelligent users that figure out something, but it could never happen too.

In any case I'm looking for something that can handle Battlefield 3 reasonably well (i.e. 1080p @ medium to low is fine). Granted official specs haven't been released, so its all speculation at the moment.

Well is it playable? How much antialiasing are you using?

What do you have to turn down to make it playable? i.e. try downgrading shaders on 1080p?

It doesn't sound too off from where it should be.

Crysis 2's graphics are actually toned down from 1. There's a patch coming out to convert it to DX11, though.

Turn AA off, and you'll likely see a pretty big bump. It isn't really necessary at 1080p, since jaggies are much less noticeable at higher res. If anything, run 2X. Also try running high versus ultra, and you should see a smaller bump as well.

I have yet to find a game I couldn't play at 1080p on the 6770m. It's not the fastest card out, but it seems to handle the currently available games quite well. I've encountered a few issues with DX version when it is selectable in game, but otherwise, the 11.6 drivers have been pretty darn good as well. My only problem is that I've bought more games on Steam as of recent than I have time to play them!

the temperature of my 6770M while playing bad company 2 all maxed out is between 78 and 80 degrees celsius. is that normal?

It is around 50 degrees when idle.

I'd say yes it is normal, if anything decent.

So how well does it play BFBC2? Do you have 1080p screen or 1366x768?

    Hi.

I dont even need to worry about BFBC2. I maxed out everything including AA and it's a very smooth gameplay. My native res is HD (768p).

Guys, i even played Crysis 2 on ULTRA with DX11 and High resolution textures enabled (the latest patches) and I can tell you this: The game was NOT stuttering at all, whether indoors or outdoors, with or without gunfights. I disabled motion blur because i dont like it. I dont have fraps; I am not sure of the average FPS but i can say it was playable all maxed out at 1366x768.!!
(probably FPS was mid twenties to mid 30s with drop downs down to 16 for brief moments (unnoticeable). Just a hunch)

The 6770M coupled with 8GB of RAM, the i7-2630 and not more than a 768p screen is truly an impressive performer.

How do I get it to work properly?

    Hm...reinstall drivers?

So I tried Crysis demo at 1920 x 1080 High settings no AA and it's fairly smooth (probably 25, maybe 30 fps ish?) but it looks kind of...ugly...

I'm going to try it at max settings including AA and hopefully it will look better

Please keep us updated as I am strongly considering purchasing this as my new rig (especually given the price) but gaming is big to me, so I wanna make sure this graphics problem doesn't lead to anything else. (The fact I can't use any editing programs doesn't bother me so much).

Ok I ran crysis demo on very high 1920 x 1080 with no AA and I got an average of around 10 fps in thick vegetation and 13-15 fps in more open spaces

it was a very uncomfortable experience but not choppy like I am used to , so it was somewhat playable

Are these results low? Someone said on very high with 8x AA he was able to get 15-25 fps

I think i managed 20fps....anyways ..i have given my dv6t back.............and have gone for the m14x.....got a great deal on it :) and always wanted to be a part of the alienware family....but due respect to the dv6t ...its a great machine....and the OpenGl issue is a bit overhyped IMHO................as most of us wouldnt even realise it....though for serious video editing and Graphical work...this machine is a strict no no :) but it handles games really really well :)

I thought alienware was synonymous with overpriced rip off for rich kids but what do I know :)

OpenGL is not overhyped. Practically every other graphics card on the planet supports and executes OpenGL but ours can't. If bringing that issue to the fore is "overhyping" it so be it.

    Enjoy your alien.

Usually you can find pretty good deals on the Alienware laptops time and again, but typically they are too expensive for what you get.

In the case of the M14x I think it's overpriced at the moment. $1300-$1400 for one with quad core and 1600x900 screen, no 1080p option and no blu-ray drive.

And the 555m on it is apparently the same in performance as the 6770m (DirectX of course)

I think if you're seriously into gaming the Asus with the 460m would probably be a better specd machine for your money.

Yo trooper I think you were playing crysis on High settings or a low non maximum resolution and you didn't realize it

Cause the 6770m is not supposed to get FPS that high on 1080p very high settings...the GTX 460m doesn't even get FPS that high.

    Just got my 6121tx.
Average 50-55fps with COD Black Ops, with everything on high, Antialiasing 2x and the anisotropic filtering bar in the middle.

    Is this fine or low?
Also, HWMonitor doesn't give the temperature of the 6770M, it shows the internal Intel graphic's temps. Any way I can get it to show the 6770's temps?

I think it's just mislabeling the 6770m as the intel graphics due to the new muxless system. If the 6770m is active (e.g. while playing a game), the temp displayed is the 6770m's temp, I think.
