Might be, because right now it's showing the Intel temp to be 0 degree C.

Also, how do you guys manage with the left side of the trackpad becoming pretty hot while gaming (where we rest our left hand i.e WASD hand). Or is it just me?

I actually ended up returning the laptop because of this... I tried getting a laptop cooler...but my left hand still kept sweating. But it seems it wasn't an issue for most people. Maybe there was somethign wrong with my laptop or I have delicate hands

If the temp is 0, it means it is using the Intel chip (in HWMonitor).

You can also use OpenHardwareMonitor which works pretty well.

I personally did not find the left palmrest heating up problem that much of a problem. But mostly because i came from a dell that had the same problem.

I find it gets too hot playing SC2 in that area. I can deal with it but it is too hot. Because SC2 requires I get comfortable to play, I generally connect an external keyboard anyway so I dont touch that area.

It seems that HP and Dell both put all the hottest parts of the laptop under the left palm rest while the right palm right stays cool.... since all gamers keep their left hand on the laptop...it would be ideal if they could just move all the components that heat up to the right side

Has anyone had any experience with Arkham Asylum insisting that a 360 Controller is attached? Driving me...batty :D

I can't find an option to change it. The game keeps defaulting to a 360 controller for the input, even though I have no controller connected and no way to connect one. I didn't have this problem before.

The only area that gets even slightly warm on my DV7TQE during prolonged gaming is the top left corner by the exhaust vent. The air coming out of the exhaust is obviously pretty hot, but even the W,A,S,D keys (where my left hand is typically parked) doesn't get any noticeable heat, and I get no detectable rise in temp on my left palm rest or the touchpad. Did they go with a different physical layout on the DV6 that is causing the issue?

HELP. I have the dv6tse-6100, I can't play any DirectX games (High Performance Mode) without instant or delayed BSoD!

edit: I think the BSoD was "KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR"... I actually forgot to write it down *facepalm*

    Furthermore, my BSoD says:
and then it just hangs there until I manual power off. I've.. never seen a BSoD on a machine that fails to write a log to the hard drive.

Left 4 Dead 2 - Valve logo, intro movie, game crashes before title menu shows up. Delayed BSoD.
    Counter-Strike Source - created a cs_italy to test graphics, system BSoD'd 3 seconds after I started moving.

Anyone else had these problems? Or is HP daring me to get a refund already? (I have other beefs with this laptop outside gaming)

(also I know Intel gaming works because I set Recettear to power saving and it didn't crash)

the stock AMD drivers - 8.830.6.1000.

When I tried running the updated driver for 8.830.6.2000, it also BSoD'd with the same error... (this was from simply extracting the stuff out of the sp*.exe file, I didn't even start installing) I'll try again shortly.

    edit: no BSoD yet

edit 2: L4D2 still crashes after opening cutscene, on the title image, but before title menu loads, even on 8.830.6.2000.

Okay... Borderlands works fine. Full frames at 1080p with low settings. CPUID Hardware Monitor shows temperatures for the "Intel HD Graphics" when running DirectX games (otherwise it's at 0C) so I know Borderlands was running on the Radeon.

After setting launch options "-windowed" for L4D2, I know L4D2 was also running on the Radeon, but it crashes to desktop before the title menu comes up. I set L4D2 to power saving mode and it was running on the Intel ,and it crashed at the same place.

Can't reproduce those BSoD's now though..

Run the hard drive diagnostics in Bios. I had a similar issue, my drive was bad. Replaced and no more BSoDs. Probably trying to access a bad area of the drive, I thought it was Google Chrome, but was probably where the cache for Chrome was stored (damaged area).

Question: Anyone know how to get the advanced graphics card options for the ATi? My desktop 6870 has a ton of options, but only a couple for the DV7t-60XX...

Did you try going to CCC, and on the top right there should be a "Settings" button or something along those lines. Then switch from simple to advanced view?

Great - my drive passes SMART check and then fails less than 10 seconds after starting the Short DST Test in diagnostics. Does HP cross-ship hard drives? I read a horror story on the Envy 14 I think where HP refused and wanted the entire laptop.

    Actually, here's another problem:

My laptop came with 4 partitions, but the 99mb partition for HP_TOOLS was not formatted or named, I had to do so myself. (I did FAT32).

Did anyone else receive their laptop without the HP_TOOLS partition setup?

(I'm running CHKDSK, 12% done and Windows replaced bad clusters in 2 separate files post-clean install. so far, files 231129 and 298630. Currently on 305166 and headed toward 461808 total...)

I actually had a second drive with OS installed in case of HD failure, but didn't write down the CODE given at the HD test failure report. Make sure you WRITE it down. I had to reinstall it then run it again. Same issue, failed the short test in less than 10 seconds.

What was nice, I used the Chat option and gave them the code the second chat. They shipped the drive next day air, and got it the next day. I received the box, swapped new drive for old into the box and shipped it back off with the shipping label provided by HP. VERY easy and pain free. Obviously they let me just ship the drive, since I agreed I could perform the repair myself. I also got a free set of recovery DVDs, since the backup data on the drive might be useless. Bonus!

They take a credit card in case you keep the faulty drive (not sure how this would work as they require a code from the test software), and put a hold for a dollar. When they receive the drive they take off the hold, and presumably if you keep faulty the drive they (over)charge you for the drive you kept.

    Hi

I was wondering if anyone knows whether Hp underclocked the 6770m graphics card in these models.I saw in another forum that an employee had admitted that Hp does this. Thanks,I'll probably buy a dv7tqe even with the switchable graphics problems as long as I can play directx games, but I'm curious if there was an underclocking done on the new 6100 series.

Don't think so, at least not for the 60xx series. Multiple programs have detected the stock frequencies.

    Thanks,

I think for the 6100 series its the same also. With the switchable graphics they probably decided it wasn't necessary to underclock.Got quite a few people mad on some of the envy models when they weren't told that their card was underclocked. I'd be pretty mad too paying the extra money for more performance only to realize that the Gpu was under clocked by 20%

I'll try this for ya later today (I'm on my desktop now)... just out of curiosity, what did you get on the in game benchmark (ex - 1080p, max settings, no physics, no forced AA or AF)?

As promised, I tested Batman Arkham Asylum, but didn't have any issues with or without an Xbox 360 controller.

Performance was another story though. While the game's in-game benchmark will give me 36 - 40 frames max settings (1080p, but NO forced AA and AF), I feel like I should be getting better frames...

AMD Radeon HD 6670 & HD 6570 Review - Page 10 - Batman Arkham Asylum

For the record, I tested this with and without Vsync, but only had a two frame difference.

I know the above link isn't a review for the 6770M and I don't have the same processor (I have the 2820Q which should turbo all four cores at 3.1 GHz), but the 6770M should be at least as good as the desktop 6570. I'm tempted to blame the stock drivers, but can't help but feel that perhaps HP underclocked my 6770M.

Do you guys have an idea as to how well my laptop (original 6770m with Manual Switching) should perform with Battlefield 3. Right now at 1366x768 I can max BFBC2, but obviously, the graphics in BF3 are superb. It's the one game I know of though that recommends a quad-core, so will that help a bit? Kind of like, mad excited.

System requirements haven't been released yet. However, since it's a Frostbite 2.0 engine, it should run comparably to Bad Company 2.

I actually did figure out the problem, there was an issue with my .NET install that was causing the launcher to not load the keyboard control settings into the game correctly.

I get about 40-45 FPS in the benchmarks with max settings.

I have a quick question, is the lack of openGL support a driver issue or a hardware issue? if it's a driver issue, what are the chances that a later release of catylist will correct it? I really can't spend much more than the $800 I payed for this one, and I would like to have specs as good as this.

Driver issue, although HP is working on a temporary workaround by offering an updated BIOS so you can choose dynamic graphics (switchable) or fixed (AMD GPU only) that will allow the 6770m to manage OpenGL. It isn't released yet, but seems it is imminent. See discussion starting here:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my impression was that "Fixed mode" was manual switchable graphics, according to this quote from here.

Looks like you're right! That is ideal IMHO. Manual is better than automatic IMHO. So this would mean we'd still require HP drivers then?

Updating the AMD drivers is possible? Every time I've tried, it starts locking up randomly until I fall back to the HP drivers. (I'm using a 60xx, incidentally)

Tested out Oblivion, ran absolutely great with everything maxed out in the game settings, even with the mods I have installed.
