Hi all!
I just register and post this message to thank you all. I'm from France and buy a 8510p just a week ago.
Your messages helped me a lot.
If it can help some people, I will ad informations about my conf:
HP 8510p
2 go RAM
120 Go HD 5400t/min
HD 2600 256mo
Intel T7100 1,8ghz
Windows Vista Business => I removed it to install Win XP 32bits
He costed me 649€uros in Paris.
My computer is not noisy anymore thanks to Eddie Tse ACPI tech.
After I failed overcloking or underclocking my Radeon 2600 with:
- Ati tool
- Ati tray tool
- Riva tuner
I looked again here and see it will work with AMD GPU tool.
I can't use Notebook Hardware Monitor too, so I installed Right Mark GPU in order to undervolt the processor and use profiles management.
So, really thank you for helping me so much and sorry for my english.

I have some questions for 8510's specialists like you :
Are you sure the temperatures displayed by AMD GPU are the real ones? 32°C seems too fresh for this kind of GPU. Is it a sensor problem?
Why some tweak software does'nt work? and What about NHC, did it works for somebody here on 8510p?
-
About the temperature, unless it's hot outside, my 8510p GPU stays around 26-28 when doing basic tasks. When gaming, it goes to around 38. So far, the max I've recorded, after playing Devil May Cry 4 for a few hours, was low 40s. I think it was 41 C.
There have been successful overclocks. Many people have done it. However, I haven't so just wait for them to post up. -
Yeah you do get a very nice boost in FPS when you OC. Mine runs perfectly stable @ 620/720 No crashes at all. I get a 20FPS boost in CSS from stock clocks...
-
How did you OC your laptop? I forgot what to do. I think it had something to do with ATItools...
Oh and does this shorter the life span of your computer? -
From the temp readings...its should be ok. I used AMD clock tool, oddly enough it works better with a fresh boot. For example, if I have had my notebook on for 1hr surfing NBR, then decides to OC to play Mass Effect or something, it will completely crash...
where as if I OC from a fresh boot then it runs fine, it doesnt like being downclocked again after gaming either, so, fresh boot either end of gaming.
8510p boots pretty fast anyway.

I'll post a more in depth reply after my final exams this weekend, but I'll just chime in right now and say there are a few of us who think the GPU sensor is wrong or mislabeled.
Using a temp monitoring program called Speedfan, I can see all the temp sensors on the 8510p. One of this is Temp2 (or T2Z, either way)--this sensor stays around the 50s when not doing much but jumps into the 60s 70s and 80s when gaming.
Now maybe my heatsinks were poorly applied...I haven't had time to investigate that yet, but I still think the temps other people are getting are unrealistically low
ANYWAY I remember Destiny saying he'd posted his laser thermometer temps but never saw them ...did I miss the thread? :\ -
Cool that speedfan works to read 8510p T°C.
-
At least it's a noticeable difference.
-
I'm not sure how accurate Speed Fan is on my 8510p. Most of the temperatures are in the ballpark of HWMonitor (usually higher). However, there's one temperature Temp4, which has stayed at a constant 59 C despite my computer being a fresh boot. In other words, it was turned off the entire time I was asleep, I turn it on and Temp 4 already reads 59 C. This does not correspond even remotely to any temperature in HWMonitor. The closest temperature on HW is a ways off at 50C.
If Temp2 is the GPU, then I'm reading slightly higher temperatures at 29 C as opposed to 24 C in HW. I'll see how much Temp2 jumps while gaming later on tonight when I play (for the purposes of helping everyone of course) DMC4 for an hour.
Ackeron: Have you cleaned the dust out of your laptop? I remember you mentioning you were going to do so a while back.
Edit: Okay, my computer was idling for a little while as I review something I wrote. For whatever reason, Temp2 shot up to 43 C from 29 C. Yeah.... I don't think I'm going to trust Speed Fan for temperatures unless someone shows me how MS Word is a GPU intensive process. For now, I'm once again uninstalling it. -
Thelemys: Try ATI Tool 27b4. It handles the HD2600 correctly.
Jin07:
1. My max temp was 45 with AMDGPUClockTool at 600/700.
2. I prefer ATI Tool for OCing.
For both of you: I bought a HP 8510p in February and made a quick test that I have posted: here
BTW, I had to replace my HP 8510p, and i am in the middle of the OC/UV tests with several progz (Optimizing, tweaking it for days, weeks). Till now, I can say that for me the best combo was:
1. ATI Catalyst Driver only + ATT (No CCC) --> Tweaking and setting up the drivers. (advantage that I do not need to install NetFrame2 and CCC either).
2. ATI Tool --> For OCing (@500/600: 3DMarkt6 is 3388, @604/700 is 4050) --> +20%
3. Fraps --> For FPS check
4. RightMark CPU (doest require Netframe2, see above like NHC) + Orthos (Optimized Prime for C2D CPUs) / TAT (Stress the CPU better) ---> UVing (I am here now, checking out what is lowest voltages). If somebody can give me a hand here, what setting were him/her the best, I would really appreciate it.
5. HWMonitor (AMDGPUClockTool for doublechecking) ---> Checking Temps for HDD, CPU, GDP, ACPI (I use Everest, SpeedFan as well but the first two seems better)
Oh, maybe somebody havent read that read, "Overclocking ATI and undervolting Core 2 Duo" here. It says that its name shows in details. I recommend it.
After I have finished everything I am planning to write a detailed guide for HP 8510p, starting from scratch (Creating Gamer WinXP , tweaking, optimatization, OC, UV, setting, backing up).
So I think - if you want guys - we can put out "know-how" together and create an ultimate guide for other HP8510p users as well... What do you think? -
Thank you very much! It works
-
ooo sounds good to me. I am going to try that version of ATI tools you recommended later.
-
I just bought the gatewat 6874h. It has the hd 2600 512mb gddr3 gfx card. 2 ghz intel duo.
3dmark05 stock=7549
3dmark06 stock=3563
overclocking core max 558.
overclocking mem max 700 -750 not sure but mem makes no diff
I can play crysis in 1280x 800 with a config(with hdr on 20-25 fps)(hdr off 30-40 fps) with hdr it looks high plus some very high , without it looks medium but with high shader graphics on the objects and textures(extra detail)..pretty sweet config really..still cont beileve i can play at 30 fps and have it look so good at that rez...no complaints about crysis anymore.
css stress test 1074x768 or whatever it is i get 150 fps without aa and tilinear is on, not aniso..all max i get 123..good results anyways
bioshock all max 1280x800 about 18-35 fps 23 avg
sanandreas is fukin stupid. drops below 30 insome areas and really has no avg..i still hate how this game performs considering the washed out textures, lack of bump mapping, and static shadows, and low polygons...amazingly crappy port..
grid all max 1280x800 no aa.. 20-30 fps
so basically it will play anygame max minus shadows or minus 1 or 2 settings..new games that is..
mass effect 20 avg all max
cod4 max 20 to 30 fps
that seems to be the norm when using max with the new games..20-30fps
anyways if anyone owns this card and wants my config...ask(crysis) -
ryane0840: thanks for sharing... the mac OC-ed core looks a bit low... Everybody that I know managed to pump core to 600, mem to 700...
BTW, I noticed the memory thing as well. more than 700 doesnt puss a lot, but bellow it begins to be the bottleneck...
what is you none and OC 3dmark06 scores at all default settings? -
-
We have got some temperature readings from out Gateway friends with their HD2600 with 512mb GDDR3.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3787090&postcount=141
Obviously our cooling systems are different. But thats just an rough idea of the possible real temp. Still about a mile and a half cooler than the 8600GT... -
That temperature was when the laptop GPU was OCed. I think the temperatures read by HWMonitor are correct. Although the GPU runs cooler, could it possibly also have a lower tolerance for heat?
-
Well my GPU is never ever that high even OC with out a notebook cooler.
-
Remember that we have a different laptop and hence, a different cooling system. My temps are staying around 31 when idle with the summer heat. I don't have an AC, just some fans. My temperature max after playing DMC4 for a couple hours is low 40s, usually ~43.
In general, I believe most 8510p users report equivalent temperatures. I forgot what everyone posted. If you go through the thread, you'll see what everyone has temperature-wise. -
Yes this is the 8510p thread. Oh yeah jin my highest was 41 with no cooler and OC after playing mass effect for 2 hours at ambient temp (27C+ easy). I was worried...O_O
-
The 8510p is just too cool
Ackeron: You clean your laptop yet? -
Hey,
I went camping actually, hehThis summer has been crazy busy...Since my temps seem so strangely high I'm actually considering just re-applying (better) thermal paste at the same time I de-dust the system. I mean, it's already going to be halfway open right?
But yeah I just think something must be wrong with my cooling system for my GPU to hit 85c regularly. I'm not worried about the temp being that high in itself, just that everyone else's is so low.
Also, does anyone know the shelf life for AS5? I've had some in my fridge since December '04, used it a few times but not in the last two years or so. -
85C?!?! geez, I reached a new low of 15C today...what a joke. I would apply AS5 to mine but i used most of my lint free cloths on my mate's G1S...-.-'' I've had my AS5 for like 2 years, worked fine for my friend's G1S, at least I think it did anyway...

Hi,
I have written couple weeks ago about problem with oc my hp8510p. Unfortunatelly I didn't solve this problem. I'm using Vista x64 sp1 business, modded Catalyst 8.6 and Ready driver plus (BIOS is F0.F). I discovered that during the installation any of overclocking software (RivaTuner, AMDGPUClockTool, AtiTool, AtiTrayTools) I get an error that driver that is trying to be installed is not signed and Vista blocked his installation. But why?! I have disabled checking driver sign (by ReadyDriverPlus) and modded Catalyst is working. Do You have any idea what to do? -
First, update to the latest BIOs which is F13.A.
-
Done, but didn't help
-
I think you might needd the 8.8 Catalyst drivers from ATI. You have to use Mobility Modder to get it to work, but it's easy installing the ATI drivers.
-
I don't think that this is connected with old Ati Driver, because I had had the same issue before I installed Catalyst 8.6 (I had 8.4)
-
Any other ideas?
Btw I noticed something strange: after installing new BIOS F13.A I have higher GPU Memory Clock: 400MHz when PowerPlay is enabled (before BIOS update I had 250MHz), when PP is disabled Memory Clock is OK: 600Mhz.
