well I do have 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x720, 1280x768, 1280x960, 1280x1024, 1680x1050 and few others but 1280x800 is for some reason missing
edit: problem solved by Powerstrip in which I added "custom" resolution - 1280x800.

I don't mean to be a complete idiot here.. But I've noticed HP has now released a F.11 BIOS update. I purchased the laptop in September, had tons of the same VPU errors (no BSODs though), sent in the laptop for repair and received it back in October with the HD wiped and Windows reinstalled (HP's 'magical' solution).
I'm on XP Pro.
Which BIOS type do I download?. So tired and frustrated from these constant VPU errors that I'm just fed up and out of it.
"HPQFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS (68MVD) - Microsoft Windows/Vista-Based" ??
What's the difference between this and the other two listed on HP's driver/download page?. Just different ways to install.. or?.
Also.. considering I haven't done any BIOS updates at all.. is this all that needs to be done to solve the problem?. Give me some hope. -
You're over complicating the situation. All you do is download and run it while making sure you don't turn off your laptop.
Here's HP's installation instructions:
1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory
on your hard drive.
2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the
on-screen instructions.
Here's a download link:

Sorry, I have a tendency to do that.
Everything went smooth and I appreciate the help.
However, I do notice my fan running a little louder then before even when I'm not doing heavy tasks. Since I heard the BIOS update fixed the underclocking issue of the graphic card, is this to be expected?.
It's not terrible, but it's something I noticed right off the bat. -
If your GPU is clocked higher it will generate more heat. Therefore the fan will need to run faster to compansate for this to cool it down more. Check your CPU and GPU tems. Do you know how were they before the upgrade?
-
No idea unfortunately, I'm only judging by sound. I had little to no problems before the upgrade -- it would only become louder when first loading Adobe Photoshop etc.
Now it's fairly loud even while idle.
.. When I went to undock my laptop the other day, I was horrified to find a thin sheet of dust directly under the system that wasn't noticeable from the desk. This house is notorious for having dust problems, so I might consider cleaning it (happened to stumble upon the link in your sig earlier).
I'm not sure how dramatically that would or could change the situation, though. -
clean it , even just blow dust out of the vents , i know my temps dropped 5-10 degrees after cleaning and the fan ran at a slower speed
-
Yep. This http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=237806
should helpYou will be surprised what you find there... Can I kindly ask for a picture if you do it
-
Definitely gotta clean this baby regularly. The fan running all the time is a dust magnet

I want to share some benchmark-results, after i finally managed to overclock the 8510p.
OS: Vista businness
gpu driver: cata 8.5
bios version; f.0F
specs: t7500 / 2GB ram/7200rpm HD
results 3DMark2006 v1.1.0:
stock: 3336
550/650 gave 3585
575/675 gave 3742
600/700 gave 3895
625/725 gave 3989
635/780 gave 4083
and finally 641/780 gave 4111
higher engine speed resulted in bsod (wich was to be expected)
Now i'm going to do the same with the 5600 firegl modded (by shoko, thx for that) driver on xp 32bit. i'll post results later. -
Hi,
I've got problem with overclockingI think it might be the same problem like Honza007 but I'm not sure.
I'm running on Vista x64 SP1, and I've installed "Ready Driver Plus", which solves the unsigned drivers issue in x64, the newest 8.6 Catalyst modded with mobility modder (with CCC) and my BIOS version is F.0F.
I've tried:
1. AtiTool 0.27b4 -> after press "set clocks", clocks change to the default values, there is an error in log file:
E Could not read PP table size
E Could not set read driver clock table.
2. Ati Tray Tools 1.3.6.1042 -> it doesn't show properly the clocks value (it shows 13MHz core clock (yes 13MHz!))
3. RivaTuner 2.09 -> there is no option to overclock (I don't know why)
4. AMDGPUClockTool -> when I try to set new clocks (even only 1MHz), screen freezes immediately and starts whitenning from right down corner - Of course I have to reboot laptop by pressing On/Off button.
Maybe problems are caused by PowerPlay -> there is a bug after modding drivers - CCC doesn't show the PP options so I can't check whether it is turned on or off.
Do You have any ideas? What can I do?
Thanks for reply.
(sorry for my English) -
Clear the drivers with DriverCleaner, try some other drivers and report back. This 13Mhz is the thins that worries me most. You might have a bad card. How is the performance in 3D demanding applications/games??
-
Thanks for reply.
I think it's not a card problem: I've just run 3dMark2006 and got 3609 points (1209,1554,1939), in addition yesterday I playeed Call of Duty 4 and it ran ok. Is there any drivercleaner software that you recommend to use and freeware? -
i guess your problem is the powerplay. as you assumed already, you need to disable it for overclocking.
btw, just google drivercleaner( it´s the name of the software), and you will find the software rightaway. -
GPU-Z shows 499.0 MHz Core Clock and 594MHz Memory clock - so I think card is ok.
DH Driver Cleaner Professional 1.5 is ok? -
You dont need pro version. Just find DH Driver Cleaner that is free. I think they charge for Pro version now.
-
Right, here are a few issues...
ATI tray tools - does not work (doesnt show correct clock speed)
ATI Tools - does not work (doesnt even load)
I am now use AMD clock utility which seems to work.I will be back with some OC'ing results later! I better read up in this thread.
3289@1280x1024 - default clocks. <- 1st time.
EDIT: ok, AMD clock thingy doesnt work either, so...err ok nothing really works...I've got F11 bios by the way...
-
U turned the PowerPlay off, didn't you??
-
yup! of course!
EDIT: it seems like it might be the drivers...found this in ATI tool's log ''Could not read driver's clock table: 2'' What drivers are you guys using? -
my own driver ! i used to work with normal catylysts modded with mobility modder, but since half a year i´m running modified firegl drivers. evrything is working purrfect since then.
but since the firegl drivers are under developement for quite a while it´s components ( d3d) are usually a bit older than normal catalysts.
this mod is only working under winxp and xp 64 for now. if you are interested i´ll send you a pm. -
Are you gaming fine with them?
I am running XP-pro 32 bit they should work. But I am just looking for something that i can play around with (OC'ing) for now.
-
new notebook and already OC'ing??
-
gaming is ok with the driver, but you may wanna test the driver yourself.
ocing with amd gpu clocktool is working very well also ( make sure to disable powerplay)
send you a pm.
//edit
forgot to mention this, but during ocing i think i have found the voltage limit for ocing. with my specs i can go up to 640mhz / 750-800mhz for core/memory. as soon as i go any higher with the core clocks( ven with stock clocks for memory) the system locks up. another user with a penryn posted here a while ago and he could push the core clock around 20 mhz higher. this is probably due to the penryn processor. since that one saves a little more juice than my t7700 it´s very likely that i reached the voltage limit.
afaik the hd 2600 is just a downclocked hd2600xt, it should be able to go up to the 2600 xt´s stockclocks easily. but since there seems to be this voltage barrier we cannot push it to the xt´s clocks. that might also be a reason why this card is so incredibly cool compared to nvidia´s products.
and so it´s even very likely that ocing will not break / burn these cards.
just a guess. -
Somebody else was saying that they had problems o/c with new Catalyst. I installed the 8.6 but didn't test them with o/c as I had no need for it.
-
Yeah I just wanna push it alittle.
And schoko, your drivers are having the same problem as teh stock ones
So i reinstalled the original ones and I will work from there, thanks anyway.
So now I need to find a way to OC with the latest drivers from HP. grrr -
is AMD GPU clock still not working for you? strange :/
-
Well it tells me that its OC'd but GPUz still shows the same clock speed?
EDIT!!!
It is working, its just that GPUZ isn't reading the new clocks, I OC'd (from stock) to 594 core/675 mem and get a 20 fps boost in the CS:S stress test ran with highest settings (no AA/AF) @WUXGA...Very impressed.
-
I thought there was something wrong
Dont trus GPU-Z
Everest is better -
qanybody try bios f-13 yet ?
-
There is a new BIOs? *goes to check* Oh I see, from teh fixes list, it doesn't seem much use except for the ethernet?
-
-
Any difference from the F11 BIOs?
-
None that I've noticed. The only BIOS that made major changes was the one that started this thread.
-
yay! 4161 3dmarks @ 1280x1024 core/mem 650/760 clocks.
-
nice score
guess you have some fun with your new machine...
since you can push the coreclocks beyond 640 mhz, might i ask what config you have ?
do you have one of the new penryn processors ? looks like you can go for another 10-20 mhz, before the laptop does not deliver enough juice for the card... -
How safe is OCing this card? I'm tempted since the temperatures are pretty low even under load and it'd be nice to get a boost for DMC4. 35 C is low for a GPU under load right? However, this laptop must last me at least 4 more years, so I wouldn't want unnecessary strain.
-
My max temp whiilst running 3dmarks was 33C (thats with OC). I have also undervolted the CPU, and am usign a cooling pad...
Everything is nice and cool here.
My specs are...
T8300 (so yeah, peryn)
3Gb ram
250GB 5400rpm
WUXGA screen... -
I'm thinking of purchasing this computer this week since I cannot find a better computer for the price. My only concern is the GPU, how is the HD 2600 holding up these days? I've been reading through this thread, and I've noticed people are putting a lot of work into OCing these cards to get the most out of them.
But how do they hold up in general? Are you guys able to play new games acceptably? I don't want to get a fancy gaming specific laptop because I'll be lugging it around everywhere, so I thought this computer with its HD 2600 would be a good compromise. I'll still be able to play new games, but just at lower settings. Am I correct in thinking this? -
The Witcher after o/c is playing on all maxed out in native resolution - 1680x1050, of course without AA but anizo at 4x me thinks.
Without o/c It was all maxed out a step in a resolution down I think.
PES08 all maxed out on max resolution. I didnt play any other games yet
People are overclocking it as it has a lot of potential to unlock with it as it is running very cool and has DDR3 mems. -
Stock clocks play DMC4 great with very little slowdown. I haven't tried out Bloody Palace though which may have some slowdown. My 8510p was also able to play Crysis on medium at 1280x800 with no real problems.
-
also did Destiny ever use an infrared sensor to scan the system temps? I still say all those temp monitors showing 30-40C for the GPU are wrong -
I was joking Ackeron. Everything is fine since the update. Though I must admit, I never like doing BIOS updates because if something happens, you have a new paperweight.
-
Yeah I wanna know some real GPu temps too...
33C max is just too low to me true.
-
My max temperature after 3 hours of DMC4 was 35-6 C. I got the same temperature readings after I played the Crysis demo for a few hours. Actually, my highest recorded GPU temp was somewhere in the 40 C range. However, that was when my laptop vent was clogged with dust, so that doesn't count.
-
I need to get with the times, I am still play old games...hahah
-
I still have these noted somewhere but havent got much time to post it. I maniny check the forum at work now
Anyway, I noticed that it is the North Bridge that is quite hot and makes the machine to go up on the temp... Im waiting for some thermal pads to change one that is on it, but hopefully I will be able to post the results from the ir gun today.
PS. your temps are wronghonestly...
-
ooo Looking forward to some results!
-
In that 8710w fan thread they verified that TZ2 was in fact the GPU so I dunno if I'm ever going to believe anything else
-
Running at 630/740 and its BSODs on me after a short amount of time (10~30mins), when playing CSS and Mass effect. :-/
-
Since the GPU apparently runs rather cool (didn't know around 40 C was cool), have you guys seen a noticeable improvement in gaming when you overclock? I'm tempted to overclock for DMC4 to see what will happen.
