I am installing W7 RC soon (on beta right now no probs). So if I run into anything I will let you know

Anyway, I am on my 3rd keybaord. 1st one was defective right from the start, 2nd developed a squeaky spacebar after 6 months or so. :p My 3rd came last week (next day, loving the warranty :D), it's alot quieter than my 2nd one, abit more like my 1st one. tactile feedback is about the same. I really please with this one so far and of course pelased with HP warranty as per usual.

In other news, I am upgrade to a 500GB hitachi hdd (from 250GB stock toshiba) when I get the money, also thinking about going from 3->4GB of ram. :D

Shocko my specview numbers were terrible !! worse than xp 32 with 3gb and t=7500 . Don't understand that . X-9000 , 6GB RAM AND MY NETBOOK HAS BETTER NUMBERS . ,

The OpenGL Driver is rather bad at the 8510p with the HD 2600. Therefore i would like do softmod the card to a v5600.

the fingerprint sensor works with win7 login pretty good, but how i can use it in other programms like firefox too? os is win7 x64

and another question, i think my screen "grainy", it seems like there is a layer of dust over the normal screen, but my screen is clean ... on a white background you can see it best, looks not that nice ... is that normal because the matte screen or is mine a little bit faulty?

You will need the HP security suite. The one on the HP8510p downlaod page might now work with win7, I am not sure if you have uploaded the new one on to there. But myself and another HP business notebook owner have tried the HP Security Suite from the HP8530/8730 series and it works just find. :) Then you can use the suite for different applications.

As for the screen which resolution screen do you have?

It works fine, maybe slow at times during start up but thats about it.

As for the screen you can send the laptop back to HP and ask for a screen replacement if you don't mind the down time. If you don't already know, HP ITRC is one of the best ways to contact HP business support.

You can check you warranty info by using the product and serial number located on the bottom of the notebook to the right of the Windows serial code. All you need are those 2 set of numbers for the warranty. :)

All HP8xxx series shipped with 3 years international warranty. You are covered. :) (except for battery warranty, thats only 1 year) As far as I know no 8510p were shipped with WWAN parts. The physical slot is there but there is no part inside to take the card.

Maybe I am wrong about the general availability (never see any body on here with WWAN + 8510p). But if it's blocked, then no it isn't there. Just a standard slot for certain configs. They dont tend to make two different chassis based on small configuration differences as that is very costly.

Very simple to check if wwan is supported: take off keyboard and see if you have mini-pcie slot physically there. In my 8510w there's only silver solder points, the slot itself is missing.

There's 2 different motherboards listed as spares, difference is "WWAN Capable" or not... :(

No you don't. Various parts are self serviceable meaning HP will actually send you parts when they break instead of you sending the note book back to them. The keyboard is simple to remove, two screens on the bottom with a keyboard picture next to them, then 4 taps along the top of the keyboard, lift, watch out for the key board cables underneath.

    http://www.insidemylaptop.com/disassemble-hp-compaq-8510p-8510w-notebook-pc/

    Go down to step 4.

There are also manuals on the HP website on how to disassemble you notebook. :D

Hello guys, I have a 8510p, good laptop, i like it a much. The only problem that I have is that the HD2600 is getting a bit old and week for games. I overlocked the GPU already but the cpu is unchanged. I have 2 questions:

    1) How can I ovelock the CPU? (What is the best, eisiest way?) I undervolted it already, i need to ovelock it now...

    2) If 1) does not work, then what CPU is suggested to upgrade?

    3) Is there a way to upgrade the GPU (e.g. NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M), and it it so for what type?

    4) Can I put a SSD to the HP 8510p, keeping the existing HDD?

I do not want to buy just a complette new laptop for that. Maybe some extra tuninh is enough...

    Thanks in advance.

    That is 4 really :p

From what I know it is impossible really on these CPUs
You could change the CPU though to a better one...

Pass. I am not fully updated with what is currently available and what would fit this socket. Bear in mind the cooling system might not be efficient enough even if the CPU is going to fit ok.

Don't know if you can buy it first of all. The HD2600 is on a MX (not sure if this is the right 'name') connection so it is possible to actually unplug it but again, the cooling system might not be suitable (or even fit) another card.

I don't think there should be a problem with that :)
The SATA connection is only 1.5GB speed though (if that matter, I'm really bad with recent hardware nowadays).

    Hope it helps.

If I remember right, in the Service Manual there's different motherboards and cooling solutions listed for Quadcore CPU's. Probably the motherboard difference is more robust power solution for more demanding CPU.

Some users have said that they are running Quads in dualcore motherboards and everything just works. Could be worth trying, if you get a cheap Quad somewhere (they usually aren't).

Probably the best GPU available is FX570, the same one in 8510w, since it's the only hardware difference between p and w versions. Basically all other options are blocked out by BIOS whitelist :(

Thanks the fast replies! So GPUwise I can not really upgrade, only a better CPU (Quad, x-9000) is an option...

    I saw a used (1 year old) HP 8530W (Core2 Duo T 9550, Nvidia Quadro FX 770 M 512 MB) for quite a cheap price (600 EUR) w/ 2 year warranty.

    1) Does it make sence to change my HP 8510p or should I go and look for a brand new one?

    2) Does the 8530w fit to my 8510p docking station (not the advanced one)? It would be great.

    1. Sounds like a nice deal, I might fall for it myself if I had the chance :p

    2. Yes it does (and I'm pretty sure even the newest 8540/8440 would fit too).

Thanks the reply! As I have 2 standard docking station, the easiest would be to "simply" replace my 8510p to new HP laptop that is compatible to my docking stations.

    I have just bought a Samsung SyncMaster 305T (2.560 Pixel x 1.600 Pixel) monitor. I want to play TF2 with max settings smoothly at 2.560 x 1.600.

    1) Can this 8530w deliver it with its T9550, Nvidia Quadro FX 770M?
    2) AFAIK, the Samsung SyncMaster 305T needs dual-DVI link that the 8510p with its docking station DVI out can support. Is that the same with the 8530w?

If this laptops delivers that performance then this is the perfect solution to me.
    So any feedback appreciated.

Sorry if it is a stupid question but I have now 2 monitors (HP 2408p + Samsung 306T).

    1) Can I use both as two, independent external monitor?
    2) As 1) + HP 8510p monitor (2 external + 1 internal) at the same time)?

    Thanks in advance.

It is me again. sorry for that but I tried everything I can not find a solution to have my new Samsung SyncMaster 305T working at its native resolution (2.560 Pixel x 1.600 Pixel), using the provided DUAL-DVI link and my HP 8510p with the basic docking station.

XP detects the 305T and I can see 2560*1600 option in the 2nd monitor option in diplay prop. but when I click apply the 305T starts to flash the 4 colors after each other...

Is there somebody who has 5810p and an external 30" monitor w/ dual DVI?

I bought that monitor its resolution and only 1280*800 works.

    Thanks. any input helps...

It seems the newest 1.1a version of the basic/advanced docking stations work with dual DVI (version 1.1 will not work):

    Basic:
    Part # 449720-001 SPS-PORT REPLICATOR, BASIC 1.1a 444706-001
    391174-001 SPS-ADAPTER, PFC 120W, 3P 397822-001

    Advanced:
    Part # 449721-001 SPS-PORT REPLICATOR, ADVANCED 1.1a 444707-001
    397803-001 SPS-ADAPTER, PFC 135W, 3P 411811-001
