How's the temps/stability on that puppy? I can't wait to play with mine

Fully stable. Played Hours of WoW plus I tested with ATI Tools. Temps are max of 75C which is well with limits, but my Ambients are around 85F. Also thanks to your post I plan to pop off the keyboard and check there paste and probally re-apply with some better paste if need be.

Now I wish Ive bought 8510w... I guess I will give my new lapp some 2-3 years of life and will get a new one then
300$ in my pocket, still can play Bioshock and probably Crisis and Assasins Creed easly so nothing to worry
-
).
The 8700GT is just an overclocked 8600 after all. Nvidia just decided to use 8600GS, GT and 8700GT rather than 8500GT & 8600GTS. But the 8700 still have the advantage of 512MB in games -

-
Can anyone who answer this? Can the Quatro 570M game well with stock drivers? What games have you tested and how is the preformance?
-
Quadro's game fine with stock drivers, though you'll probably have a ~10-20% performance hit over the latest Geforce drivers. As newer games come out, you may also experience compatibility issues.
-
Is there a Geforce driver avalible that will work with the Quatro 570M yet?
-
You just have to mod the Geforce drivers to work with the Quadro 570m I believe. Easy stuff...lots of sites have instructions.
-
Does anyone have info on what comes with the 8510p (what's in the box
)? Was there a carrying bag included or do I have to look for one myself?

I'm located in Canada and I was wondering if there were any other sources to purchase these products from? Is HP direct the only one who sells these?
-
http://www.shopblt.com/cgi-bin/s.cgi
They have both p and w models. Also, I am pretty sure this is where Ackeron got his laptop and he is in Canada as well. -
-
Ackeron, did you purchase in US or Canada? Any recommendations? -
In Canada you can buy the business class HPs from www.cendirect.com and www.computers4you.ca. Just use their search function on the site. Have dealt with Cendirect indirectly (hows that for a pun
) thru my company and they're pretty reliable.
-
Since there's no carrying bag included, is there any backpack you guys advice for the HP 8510p?
-
-
Mine has got Vista on 2 disks 32bit and 64 bit. And drivers disks.
BTW. Is there any benefit of installing 64bit Vista at the moment?? -
-
I did indeed buy it from shopblt, ship it to Washington state, and bring it back across the border. But brokerage fees shouldn't be more than $100 if you really want it shipped direct from shopblt to you. Conversely you can check out those other websites!

You need to purchase the CD's here in the USA at a cost of $5.00 You must choose 32bit or 64bit.
A Cut and paste from Hp.com follows below:
Recovery media
No Item Selected [Subtract $5.00] Genuine Windows XP Professional Recovery Media: Driver DVD Genuine Windows Vista Recovery Media: Driver DVD
OS Recovery CD
No Item Selected [Subtract $5.00] System Recovery DVD for Genuine Windows Vista Business 32-bit System Recovery DVD for Genuine Windows Vista Business 64-bit System Recovery DVD for Genuine Windows XP Professional -
Well the good news is, I'm typing this on my 8510p
The bad news is, my display won't show its native resolution. It doesn't even come up as an option in the display options.
Edit: Fixed it, now everything is running great! HD and RAM install were ridiculously easy. I thought the HD install would be tougher since I had to install windows, but there were no problems. All I had to do was put in the disk and that was it.
Ackeron: You were right, this computer is insanely fast compared to my old one. There's no lag whatsoever. I'll run 3Dmark06 and PCmark05 when I get a chance to see what effects the 3GB RAM (installed 4, but 32 bit OS) and 7k200 do to the scores. I'm guessing not much on the 3Dmark, but maybe increases to the PCmark. -
-
Oh yeah, I got everything working by installing the ATI drivers, though PCmark won't run for some reason. Whenever I try to run it the screen gets all funny, then freezes. Glad to hear you got your laptop Eli.
-
-
Jin, sounds like i have the same setup as you (3gb ram, and 7k200). I'm also having the same trouble with running 3d mark 6. I'm thinking the card is too new and drivers aren't updated enough? Anybody else able to run 3d mark?
-
Well I got 3315 or something way back when I did it before. That was at 1280x1024 running my usual programs, and of course underclocked
Been tweaking around this weekend, did a few game tests. More info soon!
Also ...that's so weird about the CDs. I'm looking at the Vista Business 32 and 64 bit DVDs right now, as well as the HP recovery DVD. -
I installed the latest catalyst drivers (modded with drivertool) and still couldn't start 3dmark 06 . It shows the logo and says it's checking my system configuration. And it stays that way untill i kill the proces. Any solutions?
-
Damn, even after updating drivers you couldn't get it working??? Thats annoying =/ . You have catalyst 7.8?
-
Have any of you had problems getting the speakers to work? Right now I can't get any sound from the speakers or headphone jack. I've installed the drivers and no, it is it simply muted.
-
What drivers are everyone using for the HD2600 with Vista?

For those of you with or considering the 8510p & 8710p and wanting an on site service warranty I suggest that the you consider HP's UF631E which provides 3 years on site next day repair and three years accidental protection, all for$135 retail. $105 resellers and $92 through certain group purchasing arrangements. There is a four year product but at a substantial premium.

Go to C:\windows\system32\futuremark\msc
There's a dll file in there (direcpll.dll). Rename it.
3dmark should start w/o any problems.
Hopefully that'll work for you too. -
Could someone please tell me whether the RAM is easily accessible on the 8510p?. I'm about to place an order tonight for a preconfigured that will come with 1GB -- I'm thinking about upgrading it to a 3GB.
Haven't owned a laptop nor upgraded one before, so I'm a little cautious - but willing. -
RAM slots are both under the computer. One screw away!
I got 3dmark06 to work by borrowing a friend's retail copy and disabling computer scanning or something. Tgr_Clw's method works also.
I don't have any problems with my headphone/mic/mic jack/built in speakers atm. Are there any problems in the hardware manager?
I'm currently using Cats 7.8. -
Great! Glad to know.
Reading up on the forum..
Is there any solution for the potential BSODs from XPP?.
I'm more familiar with the Home edition. I don't think Vista is an option for me and I'm not too comfortable with trying to reformat/install XP Home without clear instructions. -
My screen blanks out randomly for no reason at all. After this, the LEDs are still on, but nothing will respond to bring the screen back to life. I don't think it's a power management issue. This may also this kill whatever I'm doing, but not 100% sure because it's a random occurrence and I have to do a hard shut off and restart.
I just did a clean install and it still does this with stock drivers and with the drivers on the recovery DVD. This happens when the battery is connected or isn't connected. Anyone else get this problem? -

Futuremark is aware of the problem and is going to post a patch later.
BTW, you need to do that with ALL versions of 3Dmark for EACH time you install them, so install all the ones you're going to run, and then delete that dll or rename it.
Still can't post the st00pid results though since it sees the drivers as unregistered, and recognized the VPU as 'generic VGA'.
I'm getting 3536 bungholiomarks in 3Dmk06 with a T7300 both 1.5GB and 1GB RAM (3533) w/ 5400Rpm Fujitsu HDD w/ 1GB Robson.
Having a heck of a time now with dedicated OGL benchmarks though like Vulpine, and OZone's Fur though keep getting OGL errors (doesn't even detect the card for FUR). -
Can someone plz sum up the 8510p's Pros/Cons? Like Build quality and Screen quality? Any issues?
Cause i got a really good deal: 1300$ (specs: 2,2GHz, 2GB Ram, 2600HD, 120GB HDD, Vista Buisness, 3 years warranty)...it just seems more than fair for these specs.. -
-
Thanks Ackeron. I guess I could still upgrade in the future if I wanted to.
I've heard HP's laptops lack OS CDs for a Clean Install and only come with the Recovery ones. Is this true?. I've seen the bloatware and definitely want to clean it out right off the bat.
.. However, checking the guides for reference, most say HP does not ship with the OS CD.
Would calling them and requesting the OS CD do any good?. My Dell desktop came with the full OS. I don't see how HP doesn't. (This will be my personal first HP experience)
Edit: The guides seem to focus on the Pavilions more. Is HP's SMB line laptops any different?. I contacted a sales representative just to ask if they shipped with OS and driver CDs and they said yes -- but I'm still not sure if they mean the Recovery ones or the actual OS that would enable me to do a clean install.
Also forgot to ask -- would doing any of this void my warranty?. -
Just ordered,
- T7800 2.6GHz
- 4GB RAM
- Blu-Ray
- 1680x1050
Can't wait to try it (upgrading from Compaq Evo N800V, 1.7GHz Pentium4M, 512MB) -
Project Neptun
There will also be a product show with "experts" from HP...i'll defently be there and take a closer look at the 8510p! -
.
