    Ya, Built NY.

The material inside the sleeve is very soft... I never got any scratches whatsoever from it. Even the zipper is sort of on the outside of the opening itself so there's no chance for the laptop to be scratched when pulling it out, it's really a very well designed sleeve. The zipper opens on the short end, so it's very easy to slide in and out. It works perfectly in a backpack as you just open the zipper and slide out the laptop without having to take the whole thing out of your bag.

    Question!

Just got my DV3T yesterday, fantastic system runs fast and sturdy and LED is beautiful! only one problem. The fan is always running near full speed ! Cpu is cool video card is cool but when I'm doing intensive stuff, hard drive can go up to 55c and palm rest was super hot which is very strange for a 5400rpm HD. But the main problem is no matter the HD is cool (if u call 45c idle cool) or running hot full on, the fan is always on, constantly and very much noticeable.

    Any suggestions?

    4GB ram
    3200gb 5400rpm HD (samsung spinpoint)

    Love this new laptop
    Having 2 issues:

    1. The touchpad multitouch function (shrink and enlarge) is quite poor and unreliable. My fingers can "skid" across the tpad and website get so big that you can only see a few letters. Its then tough to resize it. Anyone know how to turn this fxn off?

    2. The DVD player is quite noisy. It may be due to teh quality of DVDs Blockbuster online sends out, but i'll try some others. Anyone else have similar experiences?

Regarding the fan, check the BIOS for an "always on" fan option and turn it off.
I know it's there for the DV4 so I am assuming it'll probably be there for the DV3.

    Ravora:

Go to the mouse option that can be found in your Control Panel and dig around there, there should be something for it there.

I can't comment about the DVD drive... but try cleaning the DVDs or try other media to see if it's the DVDs themselves or the DVD drive.

Yeah, tried that. Unfortunately the thing is still spinning pretty fast. I think it may be the fan for the nVidia GPU... maybe the integrated graphics chipset won't sound like a hair dryer?

    1) the bios setting was there and I turned the ALWAYS ON off.

    2) Fan still spinning as fast as before and loud as before.

    3) Pam rest is hot as usual....

    4) I have a vision that my DV 3t is going back to its maker....

What do you guys think of the picture on this computer when you watch DVDs? Mine looks grainy and during dark scenes very pixilated. Also, the colors are dull. I'm wondering if that is just with my screen?

My fan makes a lot of noise too but the computer hardly generates any heat, even when I've been playing the Sims 2 for a couple hours (it isn't a very demanding game though).

Hey folks..I have an unproven theory....I know the HD is on the right side, and now the vent is on the right side as well which can only mean that the video card is also near the vent. Now with HD + 512mb video card both on the same size, perhaps HP programmed the fan to be on all the time to suppress the heat before it gets bad?

My new DV3 has never even been close to hot! I ran it for 1hr with Solidworks and the high RPM fan never even came on. Dead silent. I'm almost worried that it might be overheating since the fan isnt on but It isn't that warm to the touch. Absolutely NO warmth to the palm wrests ever.

I have a small theory about why my DV3t runs very hot sometimes. I've noticed that when it does feel hot in the bottom right corner, it's usually when I am in a stuffy room that has a room temp above ~73 degrees. Anytime I am a room that is not well ventilated, it seems that the computer gets hot very quickly and takes a while to cool down. Since we are beginning to experience the dog days of summer (or should I say those of us who live in the U.S.), keep in mind that it is going to be a lot more difficult for your pc to run cool without a well ventilated and cool environment. Best of luck!

After 3week of using, in my opinion
    PROS:
    • Attractive design
    • Solid build quality
    • Nice LED screen
    • Good port variety
    • Good performance for daily use
    • Good sound

    CONS:
    • Fan works continually
    • Getting fingerprints
    • A little bit heavy (for 13" notebook)

i think the temp of room & size of notebook is really effect full in fan working( as i mentioned mine worked without fan problem for first days, so it has the capacity of working silent) i am going to test it in place with air condition, then i can say the result.

Guys...got the fedex label and shipped the DV3T back It is a fine and fast machine but I'm OCD and noise just drive me bunkers. I love windows also and not fanboy of any particular brand.

Just bought the new 13.3 inches macbook pro w/7 hours battery. This thing is absolutely silent, not one fan sound is audible even when under load. With screen 50% brightness and surfing and doing office work, battery meter which is continuously updated shows over 7 hours. I got the $1199 model and get 100 off with student discount. I also spent 60 bucks to upgrade 2 to 4 gb DDR 3 ram which took about 10 mins tops.

Once again, I'm NOT an apple fanboy but just want to give those reading and trying to decide an alternative

    macbookpro = 1199 - 100 student discount = 1099
get an ipod touch 229.99 plus tax then get 229.99 back from apple rebate
keep the 229 rebate and SELL the ipod touch.

This machine would come out around $1050 out of door for me. Not expensive at all!!

I like the iPod Touch discount... go back to school, pick up a mac, and a free iPod. Smart.

It is a superior machine, I will give them that. Specs sorta suck though, esp the HDD. So in-store the memory upgrade only costs $60? On the site they are charging $100...

I held one and man, I've never seen anything so well built.

My only question is with software.... games....and OSX itself.

Why can't these moron vendors just straight up copy that design. Take it apart and just make an exact copy... and change the apple to a bloody pear... whatever. We're still sitting here talking about fan noise and heat... ffs.

    P8400 2.26 ghz
    2GB DDR3 1066 mhz ram (i spent $60 to upgrade to 4 GB)
    160gb 5400rpm HD
Nvidia 9400M integrated video card w/256mb shared ram
    LED display
    backlit keyboard
    bluetooth
    unibody aluminum
    SD card slot

super silent, makes absolutely ZERO noise.

i've been only using this laptop for 2 days!!!

My Spec (pull it out of my head)
have graphic, p7550, 3xx gb, litesribe dvd(the lowest dvd drive they offer)...

    Problems
    1. The fans pretty loud when i play starcraft? is that normal?

    2. When i turn off the comp it squeaks "ekk" for like 1 second. Do u guys know what makes tat sound? i think its the fan but i hear it on the left side of the comp.

    3. The BACKSPACE button squeaks whenever i type it. Sometime it doesn't but most of the time it does? i believe tat the backspace key wasn't placed correctly.

    4. Under the dvd drive(between the button and the 'dvd multi recorder') , when i pick it up, the plastic bent in a bit and it rubs against something that makes a clicking sound.

Does anybody have the same problem as me?????

If ya please post because i don't want to feel that i am the only one that has these problem

Also if i want an exchange do i have to pay for the shipping and handling?

I have some bad news. I have had my DV3T since the end of May and have had NO complaints since day 1. But something happened over the weekend. I was using the computer as I normally do, I think I was checking my e-mail. I was running the PC on my 9cell battery and moving it around the house as I needed. When I went to return to my bedroom, I put the computer on my bed. As it made contact with the bed, a squeak sound came from the computer and the screen turned completely white. I leaned in closer to the computer and smelled some odd fume. I figured maybe the screen just froze so I turned it off and back on, but before a boot screen could be displayed the screen went completely white again. I knew something was wrong. I called HP's customer service, and they had no resolution (they really didnt even understand what I was complaining about, they would give me instructions as if they hadn't listened to a word I said). I am now waiting for a box to be shipped to me so I can send it in to be serviced :(. Very surprised, and very annoyed! Anyone have any ideas what happened?

Perhaps one hell of a static shock? Or could it have hit something hard and maybe a hard drive wafer broke or something like that. Odd in either case.

you may be right about the static shock, although my instincts tell me it has something to do with the hard drive. still not sure why the screen turned white, though.

    Well I ordered again :)

    No cancelling this time.

Bumped up the price above 1099 to 1103, applied 30% and still free shipping and doubling of RAM. Note: the current 30% and $200 off are *not* combinable (or "stackable") with the $150 instant savings…I bumped up the processor to get the 30% off, it was a better deal (772 plus tax).

HP Pavilion Entertainment dv3t customizable Notebook PC
    • Espresso Black
    • Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    • Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P7550 (2.26GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)

I also returned the Auto/Air adapter, that thing weighed a ton.

Fatwallet also is doing their 6.0% off the HP store right now, I think until August 10.

If anyone here is planning to perform a clean install on the HP dv3t or just trying to keep drivers up-to-date, I just want to let everyone know that I now have a dedicated driver thread up for this series. This will make it easy for owners of this series to upgrade and/or reinstall device drivers.

Ok, I really really love the DV3, just went to bestbuy to play with the lower end model again. Also apparently lots of you guys have the fan noise but none just died yet...and there is a 30% off coupon out again for HP. So I placed another order and hope I have better luck with this one than previous.

    P8700, 4 GB ram 320gb 5400rpm HD, G 105M ( I can't live w/o a video card) LED, WIreless N 9 cell battery, Backlit keyboard. vista 64 bits Plus 2 days shipping (39.99) yea.. I can't wait...

1037.26, estimate built date Aug 12,
Hopefully I'lll have better luck with this one. If it's still loud like last one, Ill just keep it as it is. For me, convenience and power pro outweight the con of noise. I looked everywhere, there is not another laptop of this power and size at this price....

Howard, didn't you opt for the Mac?

16433... sweet deal. See how long you can keep this one. :p
I am really interested in knowing your temps with the 4500MHD. If you could when you get your laptop post some temps that would be great!

Actually, Howard if you could post some temps too. That way we can see how much the GPU affects temps...

I sure did, 13 in macbook pro is beside me, but the more I use it the more I miss windows or at least windows 7. I have lots of HD videos and the only way to mutually transfer file between PC and MAC is FAT32 format which takes no more than 4 gb at a time which is a pain. ALso I transfer file with my friend via MSN a lot. MSN on mac file transfer rate is super slow, it has to go thru apple server, so a 5 MB song often take 1 hour to transfer whereas MS lets peer 2 peer transfer on MSN and take like 1-2 mins to transfer such files. Most of all, I use windows 7 on my desktop now and I just love it way more than OSX...So I'm gonna give DV3 another shot and eat the 10% restocking fee from apple...
