so your upgrade disc was sent by HP or do you mean you bought your own win7 upgrade version?
i installed win7 ulitmate on mine, and there's one slight problem. the LED lights don't change color when you press the touch sensitive buttons. it just stays on blue the whole time. which driver or software is responsible for this LED changing color?

For the touch controls, I believe you'll need to install the Quick Launch Buttons driver for your laptop. These can be found here:

That should get everything working right again. -
question about the upgrade discs
did you get both a x86 and a x64 bit CD or just one of the two
because whenever i input my information on HP Singapore's (this is where my discs will come from) it automatically puts in that little text box thingy that i have a 32 bit Vista HP, but i have a 64 bit one, and there is no drop down menu to change that.
i stil haven't ordered mine as i am afraid that i will end up getting the wrong install discs -
You will only receive the version that you are upgrading from. If your system had Vista 32-bit, you'll get the Windows 7 32-bit upgrade, if it had the 64-bit, then you'll get the 64-bit upgrade.
Unfortunately, HP contracts other companies to handle the upgrade process for them so every upgrade website differs from region to region. The US upgrade website let you download an applet that automatically detected the information needed straight from your system. I checked the Singaporean website and see what you mean. Did you install the 64-bit version by yourself? The upgrade process is only valid for the version of Windows that came with your computer. Based on what HP offers in singapore, there are only two dv3-2100 models available in Singapore both come with Windows Vista 32-bit, which is why you cannot select any other version. It doesn't look like they have any Customized To Order option, so it only qualifies for the 32-bit upgrade since it came with Vista 32-bit.
However, you can just go through with it and at least get the CD-key for Windows 7. You can then use from someone else or find your own copy of the version you need of a Windows 7 64-bit installation disc and use that same key to activate a 64-bit installation. The CD-keys don't differentiate between 32-bit and 64-bit, but only in the different versions of Windows 7 available. -

Unlike other regions, the upgrade is actually completely free as far as I know. I wasn't charged anything. At least in the US, HP covers the cost of shipping the discs to you, which is rather generous of them. -
I just did a clean install of windows 7 a few days ago and the only problem I am having is I can't get the screen to adjust brightness. I have tried using the function keys, windows mobility center, and the power options, but nothing works. When I unplug the computer the screen brightness slider moves, but the screen does not dim. I have updated the graphics card and even uninstalled and reinstalled it, but nothing works. Any help would be appreciated.

I just resolved the problem. For anyone else having this issue, it is with the driver on the HP website. You will need to uninstall that driver and go to directly to the Intel website. Install the driver from them and all is good now.

2 things are odd on my Windows 7:
Standby: I can't standby with any usb ports being used. It will power down and power back up a second later. This used to work fine on Win 7 RC. What gives???
Wifi: Sometimes the internet will cut out and I have to go into Networking and disable wireless internet and then re-enable. It won't work if I just tap the blue wireless button - won't reconnect with router. Argh!

After that i unistalled it and tried the one posted here and also on hp s website. But the camera still goes undetected. Can anyone with the same config as mine, post a link of their working driver. Also anyone who knows the make of the dv3t camera. I shall really appreciate it.

I just bought HP dv3t laptop recently and am very disappointed with its performance. Very annoying! First it was the Power button, second was Hard disk, third was Heatsink fan and now its LCD Screen vertical lines...hate this make! will never suggest anybody to buy such a crap!!!!

I have the DV3T and it's functioned fantastically with absolutely none of the issues you describe. Perhaps you simply got a faulty model. Have you contacted HP?

I recently installed win 7 and resized my recovery partition. I have the files there unlocked but my HP recovery manger got deleted. I installed it back from HP Website but now its not letting me create recovery drive. Any ideas?
Can i burn a bootable USB from the recovery folder files ? -
-
With Window 7, I would simply do away with the HP recovery partition completely. Windows 7 allows you to backup your entire computer with a system image that you can store either on discs, or another hard drive partition. Only issue would be that you'll need to keep a recovery disc around in order to boot off of it in case you need to restore to a previous image... unless there's a way to create a bootable virtual disc drive...

did they stop making this dv3t style?
-
did they stop making the dv3t beacuse i cant find it on the website?
-
its been replaced by dm3 i think , basically its dv3t without optical drive due to heat issues
-
I have connected an external webcam to make sure the software itself is working, and it is. I am at a loss for ideas. -
Have anyone experience overheating issues with this laptop? My laptop (HP DV3T with NVidia graphics) would over heat and shut off after playing games in about less than 30min. CPU/GPU temps would reach 80 to 90 degrees C and eventually shutting off at 105. In past does run warm on playing games, but it haven't been shutting off until recently.
Any suggestions? -
