If I do a clean install vista/win7 on dv3t, will I need special drivers for webcam and keyboard backlights?
-
No drivers are needed for the keyboard backlight. The keyboard backlight functions independently of any OS or software so it can be turned on or off at anytime your machine is on. Turning the backlight on and off is done by pressing FN + Spacebar. -
-
OK, it arrived today.
A nice set of supporting documents came with. The set up is pretty easy compared to some other notebooks I've had. It did search for for and find the all the latest updates to Vista. It also found and installed IE 8. There was a lot of HP specific animation that I was happy to watch, but others might get impatient.
I was surprised at how very difficult it was to avoid using Norton. I much prefer Avast, and Norton did everything it could to prevent me loading Avast, and still more to keep me from removing Norton. But I prevailed.
So far I am very pleased. The only major downside is, as others have said, the case and touchpad collect fingerprints, but I carry a microfiber cloth all the time for my glasses, and it isn't a terrible chore to wipe everything down.
The fan is quiet and so far the case has not gotten overly warm. The infinity screen is a bit reflective, but quite tolerable for me, and it is easy to change the position of the screen.
The a,b,g,n wireless was a little strange to set up. It is running at a respectible 71mbps, but this is slower than my netgear N network with a WN111 usb adapter, so I'll probably stick the adapter in a free usb port on the DV3T and see if I get the 270 to 300 mbps I have gotten used to on my ASUS desktop.
All in all I am very happy with this purchase. Unless some major problem develops, the DV3T is going with me on all my trips and will be my main computer at the office.
Of course, now that I have the machine set up and the novelty is starting to wear off, I guess I'll have to actually start using my new HP to get some work done. -
hey, i am in the processing a ordering my dv3t. which processor should i order:
Intel(R) Pentium(R) Processor T4200 Included in price or should I pay an extra $50 dollars for the Duo Processor. -

I got my Lappy today ahead of schedule thanx to FedEx. Ok first off this thing flys I am amazed by this laptops speed. I have to say that this laptop runs very cool I have had this thing installing vista service pack 2 and ms office 2007 creating the recovery disks and I have to say that so far this thing stays cool the only place that gets warm and I mean Luke warm is where the hard drive is located at and. over all I love this laptop and how small and light it is. This laptop is a feather compared to my hp dv8000t it weights over 8 pounds. But I cannot talk bad about that lappy it has provided me with over 3 years service and still runs strong. And I hope that hp has put the same quality into this dv3t as they did the dv8000t. you were right dynamius so far I love this lappy. I will post another posting once I have had it for a little while

does any one know if this laptops card reader supports SDHC?
-
Of course, you're going to need a copy of the Vista installation disc (which HP doesn't provide but should). Just make sure it's an SP1 or SP2 disc and not the original since I've had some hardware/software issues with it that didn't occur when I used an SP2 disc.

helpp!!
i just got my dv3t earlier this week and have been tinkering with it a bit... its been a few days but im still not able to maximize the resolution on the laptop to anything higher than 1366x768
my laptop has the nvidia geforce g105m and the geforce website says the max resolution is 2560x1600
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_g105m_us.html
can anyone help with this? thx!! -
Well, thats if you have your DV3 connected to an external display that has a higher resolution. The display on your DV3 is a 1366x768 which means that it can't show a higher resolution. For example: when i connect my DV3550 to my full HD LCD it's in the resolution 1920x1080 since thats the native resolution of the LCD monitor.

Hi Lads and Ladettes,
I'm about to pounce upon a dv3-2105tu in Australia, which has the P7350, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, X4500 graphics and have a few Q's.
1. How loud is the DVD unit when in operation?
2. What's the build quality like (plastics and keyboard)?
3. Average Battery Life on the 6-cell? (is 4+ hrs the usual?)
4. What's reliability like on the Intel 5100 AGNs?
5. Free Upgrade to Windows 7?
6. Good idea to purchase considering HP released their latest line up last week?
Read, almost the whole thread and have decided against the 105M graphics as gaming isn't my thing. Also didn't feel i need blu-ray or faster CPU for university work and movie watching. -
2. The build quality is very good the laptop feels very sturdy in my hands moving it around. The keyboard has a very solid feel to it.
3. I have read that it is possible for it to get 4.5 hrs on the battery I have not tested my 6 cell battery yet but with the 9 cell I can get well over 7 hours almost 8 and I have the nvidia 105m card. So you should be able to get about 4 hours out of it.
4. The Intel 5100AGN card for me has worked very well. And from past experience with other Intel wifi cards they offer very good reliability I cannot speak much of the 5100 yet as I have only had my laptop about a week but so far it works great. I dont know about the wireless n part because I do not have a wireless n router.
5. Windows 7 so far is very good windows build from my experience and working with the beta and RC version it is very nice to work with and it is very similar to vista so it wont be a major change up if you do install it.
6. As with all technology as soon as you buy something it never fails something new comes out. Personally I love my DV3t it is everything that I wanted and I have no buyer remorse. The best piece of advice I can give you is to see if there are any retail stores around you that stock this laptop and have a display model. And go try it out mess around with the laptop and see if it would be the right one for you. -
Thanks for the reply Zacharyh687.
I found a place that stocked the P7350, X4500 version of the dv3t and it felt ok.
The keys are relatively sturdy and tactile but not backlit. The touchpad is ok. One thing i was particularly worried about was the build quality and general fan noise. Build was ok, though the DVD drive and surrounding areas were a little plasticky, and when i put my ear next to the fan (top right), there was a noticeably whirring noisee... and a loud one. Reading back on some of the other posts, i thought this was only for those with the G105M, but maybe not? I looked into the BIOS and it had the F.06 Firmware on it. Not sure I could deal with the fan noise in a lecture/uni environment.
Reason i'm asking is I'm still unsure whether to wait for either the dm3 or probook which are thinner and possibly similar specs (though have to wait another month), or go with this dv3t. Also I can get the dv3t at $500 under what everyone else is paying in Australia. -
ya I know your issue do I wait or should I buy ??? All I can say is the dv3t is a great laptop and offers a lot of power. I have had 2 hp laptops and I have to say my last hp was an awesome laptop and it is 3 years old and still runs like new. Either way you go I think HP's are great products and either one would be a good choice. -
Question: my harddrive temperature used to be 36.0 degrees celsius but now its always 40.0 celsius. could there be something wrong with the sensor or is this a bad rise in temperature? what's the range of temperature when it becomes bad for the hdd?

anybody bought the invisbleshield yet???? does it fit onto the dv3t cuz on their website...
http://www.zagg.com/
...doesnt list dv3t but dv3 -
The physical dimensions of the dv3-1000 series:

There's a page where you can request them to make one for a suggested model. If there is enough demand, they'll make it and email you once it becomes available. -

has anyone made a huge undervolt on your notebook? i used rmclock to go from 1.15v to the lowest possible, which is 0.925v.
however, i'm still having problems with temps like many people do. you can see that my idle is already 47C with the fan spinning at about medium. my relevant hardware is with a T6500 processor and 4500mdh graphics. i'm still getting high temps and this is not even with the dedicated nvidia graphics.
do these temps seem high? is there any other way to lower my temps and fan noise? i'm thinking about even opening the notebook up to replace the TIM between the CPU and cooler

So I loaded Windows 7 32-bit professional on my DV3t (i had win 7 RC before) and everything works well, but for some reason standby is finicky. When I have any USB devices plugged in it wont let me standby. When i pull them out it'll finally go down. thoughts? I already disabled "USB selective suspend setting." didn't help. i didnt have this issue on RC.
-
well i know there is a windows update patch for microsoft keyboards and mice that will not let the computer go to standby hibernate or even let the screen saver come on. this is just a thought
-
Just got my DV3 2 days ago...Very happy so far...
I got 'n' wireless option but it is only connecting at 54mbps, so I am assuming it is set at 'g'...where are the settings to change this to 'n'?
thanks.. -
Ah.... try going to your device manager, network adapters... then click on the advanced tab, should be something there about the mode/channel or something it connects with.
You need to have an N router too... and that has to be setup to transmit too ya.... -
if it helps anyone else, I changed my router from WPA to WPA2-PSK and that did the trick...
Doesn't make sense though because my Asus netbook connected easily at 150mpbs downstairs on the WPA setting... -
Hmm DV3 isn't on HP website anymore. Did they replace it with DM3T?
-
dm3 series is a totally different line of HP notebooks
its equipped with ultra low voltage processors -
BUT the new dm3 does'nt seem to have all the features we were able to get. For example I am currently typing away on my backlit keyboard which was a requiirement I had for my next laptop. My machine still looks, acts and feels new. It has a processor that runs all my video editing softwar on a high speed 500GB hard drive. I'm still getting my money's worth. -
-
i aggree i love my dv3t and would not give it up for any thing no regrets here either... i have had mine for allmost 2 months... the dm3 looks like a dv3t looks like the only diff is the keyboard and it uses the ulv processors and does not have an optical so it is a more powerfull and bigger and more expensive netbook... that is why i got the dv3t because i did not think i would be happy with a netbook especially because they have no dvd drive and lack of power. thats my 2 cents
-
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
excellent point. when you fully configure a mini, it's only like $150 or $200 cheaper than a lower end laptop... might as well go that extra $150 and get something far more functional in many ways.
im in no way dissing mini's - they're tiny as hell and you can take them anywhere. but im a cheap and i want to streach my dollar as far as it can go, and i think that is the case when buying a cheap ultra-portable laptop vs a mini. -
ya the minis are cool but just not for me i wanted a full featured laptop and i priced the minis with the nvidia ion video card and they where as much as a base model dv3 and you still had to get a dvd drive if you wanted to burn or play dvds on the go.. thats what made my mind up on getting the dv3t insted of a mini. plus the power of the C2D processors. need more power LOL
-
i ordered 2 of the dv3t on 25 percent off bing oct 18....then hp discontinued them on the windows 7 launch date...i couldnt resist the prices....75 bucks for the g105 card...t6500 for free.free 4 gig ram.and a lower starting price .489 for one and 545 for the other after bing cashback.i figured they were discontinuing them when i seen the low prices and the new dm3 and dmt newly listed on the site.. ..one has the 4500gma for me...great battery life...and got my son the g105 for some throttled down gaming.but that one runs down the battery pretty quick...we didnt want netbooks because of no dvd drive and weaker specs..wanted an ultraportable.......dv3t has the perfect screen size and plenty of processer power to do whatever we need..i had 8 screens open yesterday..streaming stocks and sling boxin too..ran great....love that backlit keyboard too...not gonna find that on a netbook..at least not yet.. only minor issue we had was the zoom kept making the web pages smaller and bigger but after we turned off pinch it was fine...waiting for my windows 7 upgrade disc to be shipped now..glad i grabbed them just in time..dont think ill find another deal like this one for a long time..

It looks like the "ENVY" should be envious of the DV3T. The 13 inch model is an underpowered, overpriced (though pretty slick looking) laptop that seems to mimic the thin Apple powerbooks. But I was agast to see that HP wants $1,699 for a basic setup of 3 gigs of RAM (expandable to a whopping 5gb) and 250GB hard drive. You can pay upwards of $2,500 and still not get more than 5 gigs of ram and a 250GB hard drive. Granted, the chasis is all aluminum and magnesium alla the Apples, the machine is less than an inch thick, and seems to have a nice screen, but this would not come close to meeting my computing needs . And you don't even get an optical drive- you have to pay extra to get an external DVD drive!
Now to be fair, they do offer the "ENVY" in a 15 inch model that allows you to have a 500GB hard drive and up to 16 gigs of ram. But you still have to buy a separate external DVD drive and you are going to pay north or $3,300.
I remain very, very happy with my DV3T. It converted me from the high end Sonys and kept me from going the Apple route. It was in the process of making me a believer in the HP brand. But if they mail me any more ads about junk like the "ENVY" I'm liable to quit considering HP as an appropriate vendor. -
Hi,
I have the DV3T and am not sure from HP's website what is the proper 9-cell extended battery for this laptop.
Is it the RT09 (NU090AA#ABB) or the CL09 (NB801AA)?
Thanks! -
There's a link in their battery product page that shows which battery goes with which model:
http://www.shopping.hp.com/shopping/pdf/HP_NB_Battery_Compatibility_Chart.pdf
So for the dv3t/dv3-2000, you'll want the HP 9-cell Extended-Life Battery for dv3-2000 Series (RT09) NU090AA#ABB.
On a side note, I noticed HP uses the high capacity cells in this 9-cell since it's rated at 83Wh (Standard 6-cell = 47Wh, High Capacity 6-cell = 55Wh), so you'll be getting close to 2x the battery life compared to the standard 6-cell even though it's only using 50% more cells. -
the only thing i hate about laptop, including most laptops in general, are the tons of bloatware they put during installation. and im not familiar with most of these software so i dont know what will happen if i remove them
-
you should look up the hp open box guide thread(ver. 1 unless you have win7) to get a list of all the bloatware btw.
The only thing that I dont like about my Dv3t is the HHD; its probably just because its 7200RPM, but it gets pretty hot, (49C when playing a game). Is there a way to drop the temperatures down a bit? -
open box? what is that, and can you link me to the guide please
about your hdd, i doubt you can do anything to lower its temperature, maybe a laptop cooler, since that worked with my old laptop, but other than that, i have no other solutions for you, sorry
or you can always buy a 4200 or 5400 rpm HD and use that 7200 as an external and put that esata to use -
this one http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=177289
yea thats what I was thinking too, but I was thinking more of a expansion port docking station type thing.
Oh and just making sure, the physX driver wont function on our 105m's? I heard that all geforce 8xxx and above are compatible, but then Nvidia says minimum 32 stream processors where the 105 has 8.
Thanks -
come on hp people who are buying these ENVYS are paying 1600+ just throw in a dvd drive heck it is most likely only costing them 30 or 40 bucks a peice if not less there cost..
as far as the mailings the should subside once they see you are not buying any thing from them -
It doesn't seem like many of us have this laptop--there are so few posts on it. I love mine and glad I bought it shortly before it was discontinued.
It's worked perfectly since purchase. Has anyone out there upgraded to Windows 7? How is that working with this model.
I just got my Windows 7 disks the other day--plan to install them over Thanksgiving. -
The dv3t has been available since April 22, so it has been a good while. I'd say all the people that got it has had it for a while now and are no longer here or talking about it. Afterall, there are over 800 posts in this thread alone, not including the official owner's lounge. I'm so glad I got it when I did since there hasn't been and still isn't (and seeing how everyone's going the optical drive-less direction, there probably never will be) an alternate option available that can match the configuration I got.
I received my upgrade discs about a week ago. I did a clean-installation using only the provided Windows 7 upgrade disc and completely ignored the drivers setup disc as it installs unwanted software such as the Wireless Assistant and the HP Support Assistant (the latter could be very useful for its battery health check, updates check, problems and solutions detection, etc.) However, unless you're an advanced user, I would probably recommend using the other disc since it looks like it makes the driver installation process pretty automated.
Everything works and runs perfectly for me. I've been running the Beta and Release Candidate versions since I got my laptop just to be sure everything functions correctly when Windows 7 was finally released. If you have any concerns about things not working, rest assured, everything will work just as it did before.
