lol someone really does need to write a review. i feel like all my questions would be answered since not one review exists on the internet. even the reviews on the hp site for the dv3t were rating only -_- . oh well i'm waiting to buy one anyway. hopefully it doesnt disappear like the dv3z did all of a sudden o.o

Mine was supposed to be:
*Espresso Black
*Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
*Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P7450 (2.13GHz)
I got just right on the "P" series for its 25watts power consumption.
*4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
*320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
*512MB NVIDIA GeForce G 105M
*13.3" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP LED BrightView Infinity Widescreen Display..its small so I'd rather make it as beautiful as can be.
*LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
*[For BrightView Infinity Display] Webcam Only..because i don't want to pay $25 for fingerprint reader just for convenience on quite an easy task on writing username and password.
*Wireless-G Card with Bluetooth...got this one because it's not merely for convenience sake unlike fingerprint reader...IMO
*6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery...i always have with me the charger so no problem.
TOTAL = $1004.99 LESS 30% $704.99 after using the 30% coupon
Unfortunately, I was not happy with the shipping company that i contacted to. I canceled it after they told me that HP.com does not have a code bar wherein which to enter the coupon code (??).
They are to charge me as if no coupon can be use, offered me to buy on Bestbuy (laptop that cost $899). Later, I insisted that they enter it and purportedly called HP (at 11:30 close midnight) after less than 5 minutes they were told that the coupon cannot be used (even before it has expired and before 2,500 redeemers, cause if it had HP's website should have notes rejecting upon entering the coupon) instead HP customer service will give me a discount commemorating US Memorial Day on Saturday March 16, 2009(??). At first they gave me $822 telling me that they can now use the CODE (Have they just called HP and were told that it can no longer be used?) , including sales tax on New Jersey (for which they told me that New Jersey does not charge sales tax on them, yes quite inconsistent).
I asked the Shipping company what is the end price when using the code and told me that it is just $45 more than the price i told them which is $704.99 ,hence, $749.99 exempting me from sales tax. I canceled it because i don't want to believe them (the verified shipping co.'s agent). I don't know if they are telling me the truth but i just can't trust them after all their inconsistencies.
I wanted to know the base price because they are charging me 10% off the laptop payable price. not including another 10% on the agent i was talking to.
Nevertheless i'll wait for another coupon. I was planning to write a review for you guys but got *%*^. LOL -
. as you can see i circled the resolution in red. and by the way to avoid any confusions the screen itself is NOT an LED screen per se, it is a TFT (i think) screen that is backlit with an LED array. the actual pixels themselves are not LED, this might be one of the reasons the screen has such a small viewing angle.
....
nu_D already posted a link to what the laptop would like with a 9 cell battery but here is a photo of just the battery from the HP accessory site.
....
the integrated chip should handle non-gaming tasks such as browsing, HD video playback, windows aero etc pretty well so you should be fine. the only thing to worry about would be GPU intensive tasks such as gaming.
yes, you will get a boost in battery life but i do not think it is going to be significant maybe like 25 min to 30min extra. on a high capacity 6 cell.
.....
i checked the HP parts store and the backlit keyboard option is missing for the dv3t but it is there for the dv3z but it is listed as out of stock which leads me to believe that there is indeed a shortage of parts.
.....
nu_D, i am not sure if you meant the dv3z is thinner than the dv3t but i have been to bestbuy and compared both and they are same size and i must say the dv3t is way nicer.
.....
i totally agree with you on the integrated graphics vs nvidia but i must say that if you combine the G105M with the P series processor (I dont know about T-series), there is little to no heat produced from the dv3t and i use this laptop on a bed and a rug which block the vents. with my old laptop this produced extreme heat (almost scalding) but now i am just amazed at how there is almost no heat. the better hard drive also helps.
.....
again i totally agree with you about the P-series cpu, its the best decision, i have ever made.
i wanted to write a review but since the benchmarks dont work i dont think it will make any sense to but if anyone can help me in getting them running i will appreciate it 'cos i have never run a benchmark before lol. -
does the dv3t have the lan line thing?????, where it connects to the internet.. cuz i ususaly plug the cord into my laptop cuz its faster.

I was going to order this or the DV2z. According to the HP site shipping is 'FREE' Prices are dropping and Costco is running neck to neck with HP but Costco has the 2 year warranty.
-
hey guys. my notebook got in last night. here are some first impressions.
first off, the build quality on this is great, much better than expected. also, the 9 cell battery is much smaller than the one in the pics on this thread. i'll post pics when i get a chance.
Also, this laptop comes with a 2-year warranty according to the literature included in the box. One more thing hp's website messed up.
the one thing which has me about to pull my hair out though is the bloatware. i've NEVER seen so much bloatware on a pc. it was so bad that out of the box it wouldn't connect to windows update and i eventually got a bsod. after going through the recovery partition i got it working but it wasn't easy. i wish i had access to a vista disk and i'd just reinstall. -
-
So is anyone researching XP on the DV3T ?
-
I just tried to use the 30% off coupon and it said it has already expired
It had it listed as lasting until the 23rd so I wasn't overly worrying about being speedy in my decision. Anyone else been able to use it lately?
-
Does the dv3t come with a remote?
-
fyi: did anyone here know that you can't just put 'yes' as an answer? forums say each response has to be 10+ characters -
Must be to limit the spam messages.
I ordered one of these this morning, however HP's lovely turnaround time puts delivery in early June.
Also, are the ts tray loading or slot loading dvd drives? -
-
Well, besides the defective Nvidia GPUs, they really have a pretty decent record as far as I know, and even those you really can't blame on HP.
They actually make quality laptops as far as I am concerned. They do have issues with heat but after spending sometime on the Dell forums, I can tell you they have the same problems. Heat seems to be an issue with all laptops, well, at least most.
If your Nvidia GPU doesn't fail, you can expect to get a quality laptop that should last you a decent while...
Concerning the Nvidia GPUs, I would think the geniuses figured out how to make chips that don't self-destruct. Or, you could do what I plan on doing and getting a 4500MHD, since I don't game anyway, it's a win-win. -
I just ordered myself a dv3t, but I must say I was a little worried when I couldn't find any reviews yet. I originally opted for the 2 year HP extended service plan, but I am going to cancel it now that I hear that it is being bundled with a 2 year warranty. Even if it's just 1 year, I don't know if the extended warranty is truly worth that price tag.
Does anyone know anything about the Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P7450 (2.13GHz)? I decided to upgrade to that because I hear the P series is much better than the lesser models.
Finally, does anyone have any videos of what the dv3t looks like? I can really only find closeups of dv3zs. Any unboxing videos? -
Tray or Slot loading disc drive?
-
Great call on the P series.
Check out the HP website, you can zoom in on the DV3. Check YouTube for unboxing videos.
Tray. -
Anyone know how long it realistically takes hp to place and ship an order? I heard that it is often well before the estimated ship date. I can't wait to get mine! -
thanks a lot nu.
-
I ordered one on the 11th and it is still in production! The anticipation is killing me!
-
I don't know where the 2 year rumor started but the web site says:
-
Is the P7450 processor worth the extra money ?
-
Depends on what you wanna do... Just get 4 gigs ram with 64 bit os and it'll be worth more than a couple hundred Mhz. Even with the 2.0 Ghz base processor, should be more than enough for most tasks on such a laptop. Unless your doing CFD simulations or intense image processing...
-
IMO, it's well worth the money. It's really not about the performance boost as much as it's about the greater battery life and lower heat output. P-series CPUs have a 25watt TDP compared with 35watts for the T-series chips.
You can always upgrade your memory later, but the CPU you're stuck with for the life of your laptop. Heat + battery life in a laptop IMO are of paramount importance.
So, yes, the P-series is well worth the extra money, if longer battery life and a cooler running laptop are of importance to you, not to mention the boost in performance. -
When I bought it there was no option for an extended warranty, and I know I didn't buy an extended warranty, so I don't know what's up. But since I have the papers I assume it's real. Maybe they extended the warranties for the first xxx number of people that bought it. -
wow the coupon expires tomorrow... so can anyone confirm, are the graphics switchable (can the dedicated graphics card be turned off and the integrated used) without restarting (or with). And what is a rough estimate of the battery life (9 cell). Thanks, wish the deal was longer, with such short notice I may go for something else.
-
-
o and by the way it is a tray loading drive
uhm the 9 cell should last at least 5hrs with max screen brightness, wifi on -
So does anyone think I should op for the nvidia option if i reallly reaaaally wanna play left4dead. lol im a ps3 owner sooo im looking at the PC alternative
. can anyone with the nvidia tell me if the dv3t still runs cool and quiet? after my last two laptops sounding like jet engine turbines, cool and quiet is kind of high on my priority list lol
-
i think the nvidia g105 will blow away any console (ps or xbox).
also, i have one question. is there a way to install win 7 on the dv3t without formatting the vista partition. i just ordered mine with the following specs but i can't wait to try out win7rc. also what is the resolution of the webcam? i hope it is 2mp.

Microsoft(R) Works 9.0 -
It is now past my estimated build date and still "in production"
... It's a 1.3 MP webcam. I think you can go to administrative tools - computer managment - storage - disk managment - right click on the drive you want to partition and make a new partition (or shrink one to get the space). http://lifehacker.com/5126781/how-to-dual-boot-windows-7-with-xp-or-vista
-
i think HP got it right this time
yes you can install win7RC without formatting, what you need to do is right click on my computer -> select manage. this should open up computer management, in the left pane click on disk management which should be under storage. once you do that, in the right pane it will show you all the hard drives attached to your computer and how much space is in use for each one.
you should have something that looks like the screen shot below but in your case you will probably see only one or two partitions. i already formatted mine to my preferences
at the bottom where it says Disk 0 you wanna right click on the C: drive and select shrink volume. the computer will take a moment to calculate how much space is available for it to shrink down by
the highlighted space is how much space you can get out of your C: drive but you do not want to use that whole amount for Windows 7RC, so what you do is calculate how much space you need for Win7. For example if you need 20GB you multiply 20 by 1024 and so you would enter 20480 and the computer would slice 20GB off and give you a new partition with 20GB available.
you need to multiply by 1024 because 1GB is not exactly 1000MB it is actually 1024MB, this is why most hard drives do not show up on the computer as the exact size e.g 250GB shows up as 232.88GB.
O and no the webcam is not 2MP it is only 1.3MP -
So if I follow this guide I won't need any program for the dual boot thing? Will my computer automatically ask me on start up which windows to boot; Win7 or Win Vista?
Thanks!
//R
EDIT: I forgot some questions!
Will I be able to use my current C: as storing space as I am right now with Vista? Will I have to reinstall MS Office in Win7 or can I use the same as I am i Vista? -
@kloves2fly:
thanks for your great mini-tutorial. but actually i knew this method. the problem is that on my current laptop, it shows 'space available to shrink=0'. i don't know why. i hope it doesn't do that on my new dv3t. i got a build date of june 1.
also, consoles like ps3 and xbox 360 can barely manage 720p, whereas any low end pc will happily give you 1080p. keep in mind that the dv3t will play crysis at 20-40fps at low settings, whereas they did not port it to ps3 and xbox because their capabilities were insufficient even to handle low settings.
can you check and tell me if there is a free so-dimm slot or all are used up. i have 2gb lying around. it would be great if i upgrade the lappy to 6gb! -
@slick:
yes, on bootup, you will get an option for windows 7 and windows vista.
yes, you can use any drive you want for storage.
yes, you will have to reinstall all programs on win7, including ms office. -
But anyway back on point does anyone think the next higher up P-processor will be released? -
Has anyone recently received their dv3t (last couple days?). If so, when did you order it? Does HP normally go past their estimated build day?
-
-
yes you can still use your current C: as storing space as long you have enough space left after shrinking. i have a separate space for storage in mine just because i hate to lose all my files if the operating system crashes and i can't recover. with my set up if i have a crash all i do is just reinstall and boom i still have my files. i also use acronis true image to make an image of my drive so if my drive crashes i just recover the image to a new drive.
-
@kloves2fly:
yes i got 64bit vista because it was free upgrade and i have heard that you get better performance than 32bit.
@cereal_jeff and yayitsthatkid:
i searched around a bit and came to know that some games for xbox360/ps3 are available at native 1080p whereas most games run at 720p but are upscaled to 1080p if your tv supports true hd. so yes, consoles do support 720p and sometimes 1080p. i am sorry if i seemed flamebait. i spoke before finding out. -
hey guys,
So i layed my eyes on an hp dv3t 2005ee (model available in lebanon), and i have some questions:
we don't have the P series here, only the T6400, should i go for it? or wait for the arrival of the P ? i don't want to be stuck with a notebook that it hotttt like my old dv2000t
second: is anyone having a problem with the trackpad (mouse) of his dv3t? i tried one and it seems it's not accurate and acts a little bit crazy! -
Thanks!!
//R -
Hey guys, I am thinking about renaming this to the "Official DV3T Owners Lounge" since it's basically become one...
What do you think?
Do I need special permission to make it "Official" or..... ? -
-
any official reviews yet?
-
-
I got my dv3t on monday and have been tinkering a bit for the last few days.
I can definitely say heat is NOT a problem. I got a P series processor (2.4GHz) and the dedicated GPU but my system never runs hot. Even during gaming the fan never becomes obnoxiously loud, nor do I feel any heat on my lap. Definitely worth getting the P series.
I got a 9 cell battery for the extra life, and it barely sticks at all. It's actually rather nice to have the keyboard tipped up a bit while typing. My battery life estimates on balanced profile are upwards of 5 hours! On power saver I bet I could crank out around 6 or 7.
There is one problem however. Starting yesterday the computer will show me the "Window's Has Unexpectedly Shut Down and is in Safe Mode to Protect your Files" occationally on startup. It then asks if I wan't to start in secure mode blah blah blah. If I skip through the protocols there seems to be nothing wrong and the only errors I get are for "Unexpected Shut Down". There haven't been any unexpected shut downs so I'm not sure of the problem. I'm going to call HP today or tomorrow and see if I can get this figured out.
-Box -
. i hope you get your problem fixed. Glad to hear that it runs cool and quiet
-
Does anybody know if the notebook is already out in Europe?
Besides that I can't find any reviews...
