    sorry camera's broke or i'd have pics. 9-cell is literally half the size of the one in the pics and it extends down the bottom instead of out the back.

    I should have mine this sunday, and I still have dv3z so I will do a little comparison, fan/temp/battery. After that dv3z goes back to costco :)

    I'm running Windows 7 on my DV3T. Can someone tell me what I need to install to get this unknown device to be known. I already did the fingerprint deal which was one of them.

    Could always go to the drivers page for the Dv3t and start installing the things your not sure about! I'm a newbie though, may not be a good idea to listen to me!

    Well if you look on the site there's nothing much it can be. Windows 7 covers all drivers pretty much. I installed everything under "Driver - Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices". No one else using Win 7 has this? Everyone works though, just that the device manager shows an unknown.

    All the controls on the top of the keyboard work? The touch volume bar, etc? Maybe you discovered a bug in windows 7!..

    I don't have a dv3 or windows 7, but does the dv3 have the hp protect smart thing for the hard drives (my dv4 and dv5 do)? Cause that requires a driver.

    The DV3T i available i Sweden so it should be out in the whole Europe and if not now, then very soon! Don't think there's any review out yet. I haven't found one and non of them has been posted here in thins thread.

    Good thought! I was thinking the same. The DV3T does have the protect smart. But then I remembered that as far as I know it's an improvement to the hd to make your files more secured in case of dropping the notebook and not a feature you have to use.

    Yeah. That's something we already know (at least I do), but the question was if that's what's causing the conflict about the unknown device in the device manager. Look at the picture at the previous page.

    @slick:
    yes i have seen the screenshot. the smart protect thing is not detected automatically by win7, so it shows up as unknown. when you manually install the driver, the unknown thing disappears.
    @nivekk:
    why do you want 32 bit? 64 bit is always better. 32 bit software will run on it too. earlier 64 bit was a problem because drivers were not available. but now its better to get 64 bit.

    Can anyone run GPU-Z and check the number of shader cores on the GT105m please? I keep hearing it's an overclocked 9300GS however nvidia's site lists it as a 8 core chip whereas the 9300GS i have is a 16 core chip. I'm really curious as this would have a major impact on performance. Thank you very much.

    the missing driver is most probably the HP protectsmart driver, look for it in the drivers folder in your swsetup folder. you are looking for a folder that says ProtSHD, install that. for some reason protectsmart does not work for me in windows 7 RC 64bit, not too sure why as it says hardware not detected.\

    if thats not the missing device then its most probably the infrared

    that's exactly what it was! thanks! Went into swsetup/drivers/protshd and installed it. Rebooted and it's not recognized.

    awesome. I'm running Win 7 RC 32-bit, maybe that's why it worked or whatever.

    Anyone with the dv3t know if the dv3t come with a led screen? Kloves2fly said that it didn't come with one but he seemed unsure of it.

    yeah there is one it is on the front of the laptop right by the microphone port. i should be posting up some photos and a video soon.

    i never said that. what i said was that the screen itself is not technically LED, the screen is LED backlit as in the lighting behind the screen is LED instead of CCFL. the real LED screen is OLED as in the pixels themselves emit the light so there is no backlight making them the best kind of screens for power saving. their only flaw is their life span. they have a short life span because of the blue OLED's which don't last very long (5yrs) but i think scientists are coming out with a breakthrough soon which should help make OLED's widespread.

    Does anyone know how easy it is to upgrade memory (RAM)? and what exactly does it do aside from let you run multiple programs at once? 8 GB of ram looks like overkill but if I could get a coupon to get the price down cheaper or the cost of adding that part goes down then I was wondering if it would be worth it?

    @yayitsthatkid:
    its fairly easy to replace ram. you have to open a couple of philips screws and slide out the modules. but it would be good to have someone show it to you first or there may be a risk of breaking something.
    8gb is overkill if you just have to browse, play occasional games, listen music, watch hd video. but if you run vista or win7, most of it will be used to cache your frequently used programs. so when you click on the firefox icon in the morning, it will pop up instantly. just remember to always put your pc to sleep, never shutdown unless required by some windows update.

    You don't need more than 4GB unless you're planning the next NASA mission to invade Mars. Clicking the icon on Firefox or any other icon for that matter won't make a difference whether you have 4GB or 19GB of memory. You're doing nothing but wasting your money.

    If you want to see an actual performance boost, buy yourself an SSD, you WILL notice the performance impact as launching programs will be near instantaneous.

    @nu_d:
    no, 8gb ram is easily used if you edit video from you hd handycam. not for small edits. but if you want to create a meaningful clip in high def, you need 6-8gb ram, otherwise it will be very slow and very hard on your hdd, and even harder on an ssd.

    Editing lots of HD movie content? Well, ya, that's why I said unless you're planning the next NASA invasion of Mars...

    Save for that, it's useless.

    I read a review of this laptop on HP's website. Overall pretty positive, but he did have this to say. Do you guys agree with this or is this guy kind of anal?

    "the material used for the touchpad creates a lot of friction, making the touch pad slightly difficult to use... the sensitivity on the scroll side of the touch pad is slightly delayed, so that's very annoying, it's like a unpolished touch screen, slow, irresponsive, and innacurate...

    at times, when i was viewing a webpage, i would accidently touch the scroll bar, and the size of my text would either become extremely small or large (ideally when you use ctrl+scroll on a mouse), and i was unable to return my page to normal without entering the menus..."

    Hi

    A question about shrink the volyme C:, When iäm about to do it as described a few pages back it says that "Space available to shrink: 13820 MB". Why is that? I was planning to shrink it by 25 GB for installation of Win7 64-bit. Can anyone tell me whats going to happen if i shrink it more than it say that i can do, cause i can type what numbers i want in the box that is showing up.

    Hello fellow gurus,

    In portugal I can buy the following models:

    http://h20195.www2.hp.com/PDF/c01629090.pdf -> dv3650ep

    or the

    http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/2810/hp_dv3_2050ep.pdf -> dv3 2050ep

    Now, my questions, which one should I choose?

    a) dv3650ep has a smaller weight
    b) 9300M GS and G105M are pratically the same, though benchmarks top the G105M
    c) the dv3650ep has a better CPU (P8600)

    Now, my gut tells me I'm better off with a dv3650ep (lighter, better cpu) but the dv3-2050ep is in fact more recent. Is there any reason to pick one for the other?

    Also, do any of these laptops suport that hybrid GPU thingy (2 graphic cards, dedicated and integrated, alternating). And how do they versus battery-wise?

    Thank you in advance for all (i expect) great answers ;)

    Hi pippopippo, I'm also from Portugal [Lisbon] :)

    Have u seen the latest dv3t model already being sold somewhere?

    And like u, I was almost going to buy dv3650ep [heard and read so many good reviews] when I heard about the release of these new models... also interested in the comparison before buying one of these two...

    cheers,
    T

    Well I was playing around with...I believe it was a dv3z at bestbuy (which is not available on hp's website anymore) and from what i can remember the touchpad is exactly like the tx2000 which is what my sister has...which is what I'm on right now. I'm used to sony vaios so the touchpad felt a little weird at first but i've never had a problem such as inaccuracy....sooo *shrug* just my experience.
