I managed to squeeze 675/1600/575 out of mine. later on in every category I start to get these flashes... Me r happy. By the way mine idles at 52 degrees Celsius on these settings. And when I play Crysis for an hour it gets to 75. My fan isn't working the whole time also. Its pretty silent while playing...

Im not using a notebook cooler. I just have two huge grills under my laptop lolzor.

Hey guys, I just got my results, I had to change my clocks though cause my computer was dieing everytime I tried doing it. I had it set at 665/1650/565. First I tested the stock settings and got 4513... then I did the overclock and got 5987! ALMOST IN THE 6000s! If I could take pics I would but I don't know how to... I know Im a nubcake :( .

BTW I wonder If I had gotten the 2.53ghz and the 6mb cache... I probably would have gotten into the 6000s cause my cpu test were horrible, I kept getting 0-2 fps in that...

use the snipping tool (in the vista start menu type snip) or u can use Function+print screen aka Fn+prt sc, then copy and paste it into paint and save it. btw thats about a 30% increase in performance :)

How can you clock the shader at 1650? 1600 is the max isn't it.

Not sure how you get such high scores (not that 3dmark really matters). I get 54-5500 at 660/1650/575, which is 100% stable for me in games. Pushing clocks just a little higher will cause a crash for me.

Its normal 2 get 0-2 fps in cpu tests because in that all the render work is done by cpu and not gpu. A t9400 for gaming only would be an utter waste.

Yea, I was confused for a sec also! But thats cool with me. I got the 1280x800 cuz I thought I would not be able to play 1440x900 on High in Crysis or whatever the resolutions are... My favorite settings now for Crysis on my laptop is everything on High except for Shaders on Ultra High and Shadows on Medium. I love how nice Crysis looks on this laptop! I don't know how to measure fps on DX10 or else I would tell you my average. Its really playable and feels like it gets down to 20 fps sometimes.

But 1280*800 is too much for it to handle...anyway the settings what I have posted make the game look great!(apart from a few native res gamers who wont like it)

I find that the card doesn't overclock at all if "force constant performance mode" is disabled.

If it is enabled my laptop battery goes down extremely quick. I'm trying to have it so i can switch (manually or auto) between OC'd for games and just back to normal (with the powermizer downclocking) when on battery, without a restart.

    Any advice?

    Thanks

Make two profiles one with clocks 169.338.100 and other with ur overclocked clocks. thn set the default settings to start windows with at 169.338.100. So now whn u start windows ur clocks will be 169.338.100 and whn u want to play any game just go and choose ur OC profile. Whn finished playing game, go back and choose ur DC profile.

just go to poweruser tab, then RivaTuner->Overclocking->Global and set MaxClockLimit to 100 and MinClockLimit to 1. ;)

One more thing, I've been reading on this forum that downclocking doesn't reduce battery power. So isn't this unnecessary?

    WOW!!!!

Found this thread when I found GTA IV was running like crap on my DV5-1055TX.

Followed all the instructions here and bang! See the results for yourself.

    DV5-1055TX 1280x800 resolution
    T9400 2.53ghz C2D
    4gb 800mhz DDR2 Ram
    Nvidia 9600M GT 512mb DDR2
    250gb 5400RPM HD
Vista Ultimate 64bit from the factory.

    Before overclock. 500/1250/400

    After overclock. 640/1280/570

Temps were 51 degrees celcius idle. 72 degrees max point during 36mark06

Will keep testing and run a few games to make sure everythings ok and probably keep increasing until I find a comfortable overclock/temp combo

Thanks to all of you who have made this as easy as it is.

But @dv5-1055tx,the 3dmark06 scores that you have got are actually quite low! What resolution did you run 3dmark06 at? Have you purchased it? Because the basic version is locked at 1280*800..I got somwhere around 4400 without overclock also keeping in mind that i have a P7350 as opposed to your T9400..

can someone please tell me if underclocking with rivatuner actually saves battery power. It has been said that it doesn't because it is still using the same amount of power....

Well I ran the premium version that I got a couple of years ago with my 8800GTS. It defaulted to native resolution of 1280x800. I didn't update it or anything so that could be why. I think it was version 1.0.2. I couldn't even upload the score it said this version is not supported. For some reason I couldn't update it as well so I just thought stuff it this will do. Honestly though I couldn't care less what my 3dmark score is I'm just happy with the extra few fps in GTA IV. Still a fair bit of testing to do so I'll keep squeezing all the performance I can get.

Your base score was low, what drivers were you using? Your CPU score is a lot higher than mine but your first two vid scores were lower (the first especially). After OC'ing with a T5800/2.0 ghz and at 650/1600/486 I got 5317, before I was around 4300.

I would recommend trying this yourself.

Hmm I used the drivers that were recommended here the DOX's 180.70's. I Did the powermizer thing as well. Could it be the fact I'm on Ultimate 64-bit?

Anywho I'll play around with it a bit and see what happens. I'm pretty happy with the current score anyway. It's a significant boost as it is. I'll update ya'll later today.

I get 5567 now at 1280 x 1024, I'm sure I could get close to 6k at 1280x800. This is with my current completely stable clock =p

As for games, well I've settled on Fallout on high/ultra settings 1280 x 720 4x AA 4x AF. WaW runs at 1366 x 768 maxed out in SP, 4x AF but no AA. Crysis Warhead I took Ultimarage's CCC level 4 and tweaked shaders to medium, and it runs like butter (for crysis) at 1366 x 768.

Just ran 2 runs of 3dmark06 this time though with the basic edition 1.10

    First run 640/1380/570

Second run 640/1450/570 (just wanted to see if the shader clock makes much difference).

    happy with those figures. :D :D :D :D

I found the best fix for stuttering in Fallout 3. Use FPS limiter to create a 30 FPS shortcut, and use rivatuner's D3Doverrider to force triple buffering for DX9 (instead of only open gl).

    http://rapidshare.com/files/160642187/FPS_Limiter_0.2.rar

    http://downloads.guru3d.com/RivaTuner-v2.21-download-163.html

FPS limiter will make a shortcut for you to run fallout with it on. D3Doverrider is "hidden" in the tool section of Rivatuner's program folder. Simply run the exe to make it work. To make sure FPS limiter is working, use FRAPS.

Im gonna build a desktop soon here, planning to use core 2 duo even though i7 looks awesome :(. Anyway Im happy, getting 2 ATI 4870. And a 3.00ghz 1333fsb 6mb cache. Gonna overclock the gpus. I don't know y people OC the processors. Seems to me to be pointless... Idk, I'll find out later I guess. BTW I think that there is a difference between having the HDX16 and a dv5t besides the looks of things. I think the HDX16 would break the 6000 3d mark if it had the same screen as I do... Wish me luck on my first build guys! :D

well after about about 4 hrs of gta IV last night i didn't have any issues at all. 100% stable at 640/1450/570.

Fps jumped substantially from 15.67 before overclock to 26.07 after. Much more playable. Still finding this overclock incredible. That's around an 80% jump in performance!

(set gta IV to auto configure and ran benchmark)

Now for Rockstar to fix all the bugs and give the game a performance boost of their own.
