With all this confusion I started looking at Dells. Can anyone tell me how the 2gb 7690m (assuming that's what I get in my dv7t quad) compares to the NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M 3GB graphics with Optimus offered in the XPS 17 from Dell? The 3GB is really throwing me. Some have suggested that it's really only 1GB dedicated and 2GB shared, but I haven't been able to get confirmation on that. Is it really going to matter either way if I have 8GB of system RAM in both builds?
-
They should perform similarly. And I'm pretty sure the 3gb is all VRAM, not shared.

HP DV7 confirmed to carry 7470M 1GB option as well, proof: http://forum.notebookreview.com/what-notebook-should-i-buy/634589-buying-dv7-atm-help-2.html
-
Seems like HP has decided to downgrade their discrete graphics options for most of us? -
This graphics card confusion is eerily similar to what happened with the new Envies.
Those ended up being the 7690m and 7690m XT, which are basically 6750 and 6770.
I initially assumed that would be the same here, but is that still not really fully known yet?
The quad edition seems like a great deal with the 1080p screen and coupons, but I'm still hesitant to pick one of these gpus without a definitive answer. Why does HP keep doing this?
I also don't know if this was mentioned here already, but for the dv6tqe there are now not 4 or 3 options, but only 2.
I saw a decrease from 4 options to 3 mentioned earlier but now sure how recent it changed to 2 -
I am very VERY happy today. My laptop came a couple days early and today I finally had the time to get it up and running. I ran the GPU-Z tool and I found out I have the 7690M XT and it's the 1GB version. I guess I didn't get screwed over. I'll try and answer any questions that y'all may have, but at this point it just seems like a crap shoot IF you ordered between the different 1GB options when they were available.
-
-
Congrats Freestylehaven! Just going to quote your earlier post for reference. The option was the second type of 1GB Radeon for DV6T Select Edition at the time when they had 4 things to chose from. So now we know that all people that selected the better 1GB option out of the two most likely ended up with a good graphics card.

Glad things workout for you man!

I'd like to sincerely thank all of you. This board has been simply phenomenal with support for choosing a laptop and with spreading information about this odd situation. I'd love to contribute what I can:
Pictures from GPU-Z
This was a dv6t Select Edition with the SECOND 1GB Radeon option. I believe the price was an extra $75. I ordered it on December 21st and received it on January 4th.
Good luck to everyone who has ordered from HP during this change!
I do believe these are the same GPU's they put in the Envy line a couple weeks back. I remember reading HP's blog post about it, although it didn't say they would be putting these into the dv6/7 lines -
Well that's odd. The 7690m XT isn't supposed tohave 800 shaders, it should have 480, the same core as the 6770m.
The 7690m and 7690m XT in the envies have 480 shaders, so that's either a glitch in GPU-z or they are doing some REALLY shady stuff with calling multiple GPUs the same thing. -
Freestyle, can you test yours with 3dMark06 /3dMark11? (make sure that the dedicated card is on)
-
your pic didn't work. also, its the 17 that has the XT, the 15 only has the regular 7690m. Same core though, just different clock speeds.
-
is it just me or most of the scores in that 7690m picture are wrong ?
shaders is supposed to b 480 not 800 (pipeline)
bus width is supposed to b 128 not 32
i don't know maybe i'm wrong, but i think there is something not right here......u should do a test with 3dmark06/ average is 10284 and with 3dmark11/ average 1332.6, just to get some straight numbers .... please post pics.. -
I get this from my local forum. DV6-6c19TX
-
They have no number for the standard clock built in so they don't know what to put there. All they can report is the current clock speed, which when sitting at the desktop doing nothing, downclocks to 100 MHz. -
an online PC company in my country just updated their laptop specs list
The 2GB option is indeed the HD 7690M XT -
So if I am seeing the performance specs on the 7690M-XT correctly, it is a downgrade from the 6770M... right?
I thought that newer models of the same notebook usually performed better than the one it replaced? -
Hrm, it seems 3dMark keeps using the integrated graphics card. I'm trying to figure out how to fix that, so I'll post the results when I can. If anyone has a solution to this problem, let me know! I have updated any drivers I could obtain from the HP website.

-
Whoops, I'm a dope. Figured it out finally.
Per your request, Ellatan:
My 3D Mark Vantage Results

As you can see, they do not recognize my card or drivers (although when I went into the 3D Mark application, it did show it was using my 7690) -
Awesome score, you got the real thing with good performance. Congratulations again

You probably have 7470M which is renamed 6490M. Since it is still not technically released card, some software might get confused. Your stock GPU scores are 2089 in Vantage and 592 in 3DMark11, which is absolutely consistent with 6490M GPU. 6470M would have scored 1500 and 530.
That's a really nice overclock by the way +20% performance, wonder what 1GB 7690M is capable of. -
This is honestly quite ridiculous:
01/07/2012 12:40:23PM Adam: "I'm looking to buy a dv6t Special Edition laptop with 1GB video card option"
01/07/2012 12:40:32PM Adam: "and I want to confirm exactly what card will be in there"
01/07/2012 12:41:07PM Adam: "There are reports of 6490 and 7690 which are hugely different"
01/07/2012 12:43:04PM Agent (Angela G.): "Thank you for this information."
01/07/2012 12:44:21PM Agent (Angela G.): "The video card option that we have for now with our dv6tse, are the following:"
01/07/2012 12:44:41PM Agent (Angela G.): "2GB - is Duo 6770."
01/07/2012 12:44:57PM Agent (Angela G.): "1GB - is Duo 7690."
01/07/2012 12:45:16PM Agent (Angela G.): "1GB - is Duo 7470."
01/07/2012 12:46:00PM Adam: "Which is the 1GB? There are two different numbers there."
01/07/2012 12:47:05PM Agent (Angela G.): "Regarding the 1GB, that depends on the available graphics card installed at our factory."
01/07/2012 12:48:06PM Adam: "Hmm. This is frustrating since the laptop is really good with the 7690 and really bad with the 7470. I wish HP would just tell me which card I'm going to get."
01/07/2012 12:48:59PM Agent (Angela G.): "We would love to tell you that, unfortunately, we still do not receive any updates from the factory, Adam."
01/07/2012 12:49:26PM Adam: "Ok, well thank you for the help" -
Tell me about it, I'm not sure whether to take my chances and order one tonight hoping for the best or wait for them to possibly update the site options tomorrow night and take the chance of having to pay more for a comparable card.
-
I know how frustrating this is, I spoke to 5 different HP Agents & still I was told if I order the 1gb they could not guarantee the 7690.
I was also told the HP website will be updated on Jan. 8th with the graphics card model numbers, who even knows if that will happen.
The reason I ordered my dv7 now is because the coupon code supposedly expires 1/7/12. Some internet sites has the same coupon expiring 1/10/12. NBW4973 = 30% off, offer excludes HP Folio 13 and dm4t Beats laptops. Offer limited to the first 900 coupons redeemed -
I just placed my order and ill see if the site is updated tomorrow or not. If it is ill call in and have them change my order for me.

the site now properly lists all the graphic card upgrade options.
EDIt: the 1GB 7690M is only available on the dv6z... the dv6/7t's needs to upgrade to the 2GB version. LOL -
-
do you think they'll put out another 30% coupon in the next coming weeks? -
I guess they updated the graphics cards on the Pavilion & Envy series.
This is for the dv7tqe:
1GB AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7470M GDDR5 Discrete Graphics
2GB AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7690M GDDR5 Discrete Graphics +$75.00
I'm not sure if they increased the base price from $899 to $999. I remember the price at $899.
Funny thing is that even the Envy 17 shows 7690m, but I know customers received the 7690xt, so I hope that's true for the dv6 & dv7 series. -
I'm not sure what laptop you were planning to buy, here is a coupon for the dv7tqe.
$450 off HP Pavilion dv7t Quad Edition Laptops Coupon Code: NBJ4867 -
Here are the new coupon codes: Damn it, should have waited & would have saved $50.00
NEW! $415 off HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition Laptops
Coupon Code: NBL9438
(Does not combine with instant discounts)
NEW! 33% off Customized HP Pavilion Laptops $999+
Coupon Code: NBJ7558
Remember to use Fatwallet & save extra 3%, I don't think they've updated their website with the lastest coupons yet.
Only bad new is that there is no more free shipping! -
I did the same exact config that I ordered last night for $891.70 after taxes today with the "better" coupon and the total comes out to be $915.68 (no free shipping). -
UPDATE: See below for first part of the story. Today I got the callback, I am returning my other machine and ordered a new one and they gave me an upgrade to a 2gig card, that was after I said I would prefer something other than a $40 refund. The difference in the two cards is pretty significant (see link below), so I figured why not. I bet they won't make the mistake of not posting the model of their video cards again...but then again...maybe they would.
(initial background, from a different forum)
Not sure if this should be in the Dv7t forums, but has to do with gaming.
Interesting story here, I wanted to get a mid range laptop to replace my old desktop. Something that could handle middle range games, nothing too crazy. Maybe Skyrim on lower-medium settings I called HP to check on the card model number before I bought. (it only says 1GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics AMD Radeon). The sales rep said it was a 7690m, which I figured would be decent.
Laptop arrived (about 1 week turnaround, not bad), several days later I decided I should check the card just in case...yep, it says 7470m. I checked out the differences here:
Mobile Graphics Cards - Benchmark List - Notebookcheck.net Tech
Figured it was enough of a difference to call and see what was up. The first couple of minutes on the phone a sales rep told me again the card should be a 7690m, then I told him that is not what I got. 50 minutes later the tech lady couldn't get any help from some other tech ladies (they seemed fairly clueless), so she is going to call me tomorrow and see what is up.
Is this standard with HP stuff? Any other advice? Ask for a discount? hehe. Either way I am guessing I will need to send it back and get the better card installed.
Thanks for your help. I have used these forums often in the past and really value the help! -
-
Some of you may or may not know, but if you are still within your 21 day return period and the price for the same exact configuration is less (even with use of a coupon), you can ask to be credited for the difference. I ordered my dv6t QE on the 31st of Dec and it's arriving on the 13th of Jan. Just saw that the price was now lower with a coupon and received a credit for $81 bills.
Btw, I ordered mine with the 2gb option (configuration unspecified). Receive it Friday, I'll confirm the card # then. -
How did you do it? I tried doing it via live chat last night but they said they couldn't do anything, but the funny thing is my exact config is about the same as it was when I ordered it a couple days ago:

Since the dv7tqe is still in production they will process the credit when it ships. And my wifes Envy 17 has already shipped so they processed it right away.
So on the dv7tqe = savings of $51.00
Wifes Envy 17 = savings of $28.00
Pretty cool. Thanks again to Biys75 -

I will call and ask but shipping was free for all of my estimates.
Thanks.

Good to hear then! I was on yesterday and shipping was $29.00 for standard 5-7 days. It's really hard to beat HP's deals.
