    Uuuuuuuuuugggghhhhh

    asdljk;

I just turned my computer on and found two problems out of the blue.

#1: My dvd-drive isn't working. It has decided to also make windows not be able to start up for some reason (it gets to the "repair windows due to windows can't start screen and gets stuck there forever")

    #2: My touchpad has died.

I need a hdd enclosure to get stuff off the hard-drive.

    well.

The dvd drive is working again.

The touchpad is dead and dead. *sighs* Also windows 7 restored itself after 20 minutes of "repair windows due to startup failed"

still gotta send it off to replace the touchpad, but hey, I can get stuff off at least.

So for the past few days windows has been bombarding me with updates left and right, one of them being new Scrybe drivers or somthing. And now, everytime i three finger click to open somthing in a new tab while browsing the internet, i get the scryb gesture box. and it stays there for a good bit of seconds. And i cant for the life of me figure out how to change the mouse action settings to change this. Help?

you have to uninstall/turn off scrybe.

scrybe has it's own system tray icon

Quick question about HP in general

I recently checked my warranty status for my Envy 14, and it says "factory warranty," but I have accidental damage protection. Is that what it should say or is it an error on HP's part?

where can one find the latest audio driver
EDIT; found it/installed/uninstalled... gonna wait for a traktor patch or something

my Traktor 2 now recognizes soundcard as IDT WASAPI shared mode and doesnt work (this is also a bug in traktor 2 which I discovered googling)...

I'm trying to revert now to an earlier restore point cause Traktor 2 was working normally, as far as I can figure it out the only thing that happened in last few days was windows update an HP update

Did you register the warranty? You've got accidental damage protection no matter what the computer says if you paid for it. It's an error on HP's part. You should have gotten some documents from them about the warranty and activating it.

Here's the weirder part. When I input my warranty and product numbers online at HP's website, I get nothing. Website just tells me it doesn't recognize my numbers.

I'm hoping HP for some odd reason hasn't voided my warranty. I've had to get it sent in twice for repairs.

Anyone else have an issue with firefox when switching between ATI and integrated GPU? Firefox either crashes or I see black boxes when I switch. It started after one of the firefox updates a few months ago.

...or just update your HP graphics drivers to the latest. They fixed this issue which occurred while using the Intel GPU.

Well, when I read through my accidental plan I had on my older computer, I remember it saying something about replacing some things like once or something. Like 1 HDD replacement per year of the warranty. I'm not sure exactly what it was, maybe check the papers they send and see. Companies love fine print.

Ok, they must have enabled GPU acceleration in a more recent firefox version. It used to work just fine but started this behavior towards the end of the 3.x versions.

Well, the CPU fan on my Envy's gone bad. I've heard bearing rattle for the past few months, but I decided to wait until it got worse before I sent it in.

There's a loud buzzing sound coming from the fan right now, with some nice grinding in there, too.

Looks like this one's getting shipped off to HP

Is it that the fan is loose or does it sound like the motor itself is having problems? That sucks man i hope you get a 256g ssd for your pain and suffering ha. Let us know how it goes as i've wondered how long they take to fix something like that.

I've taken it apart to see, because at first it sounded like a loose screw rattling around. Even after I couldn't find any loose screws, I still thought there was a possibility it was something loose. Then it randomly started grinding today XD

Hi guys, I just bought an 180gb vertex 2 for my Envy14! So far it's super fast, but after doing a clean install, everything works except for the wireless adapter...

I downloaded and installed the "Intel wireless adapter driver" from HP's website andinstalled the "HPQL" package but it won't work, it doesn't show up in my device manager, I only have bluthoot and ethernet under "network".

However, "Network Controller" and "PCI Simple Communications controller" show up under "Other devices" with a yellow exclamation mark, could the Intel adapter be one of them?

Windows 7 was able to succesfully install my WiFi USB dongle, I'm accessing the internet that way at the moment.

    Can anyone help me? :)

Does the light appear white, but you don't get any connections? I ran into this problem too when I tried a clean install. Couldn't get any drivers to work, but try these stock drivers:

could be you somehow disabled the wireless through the hp wireless assistant before clean installing (which would leave the wifi turned off until you turn it back on again with that program)

..I mean usually it's the other way around (people shut off the bluetooth and don't realize that change stays with you through reformatting the computer)

you have to wait til someone posts a direct link to the drivers since amd detects you have intel switchable graphics and the downloader won't grab them for you.

Is there any way to disable the slot drive from checking for a disc every time the machine boots? My fix at the moment is to leave a disc in there to stop the stupid noise of the drive checking for a disc every time it turns on.

    Thanks lol

Is there any way to transmit the on-screen image to a TV (no HDMI, just A/V)?

    hdmi or minidisplay port mainly

    there's mini-display to DVI and/or VGA converters I think.

    not positive though.

I can't remember if minidisplay is like hdmi where you can't go to vga without a lot of work

as long as you find the right adapter, that is very possible. I remember they sell one of those adapter that plug into your USB and convert it to AV signal which connect to your TV. However, considering the TV price these days...I would rather get a new TV that have HDMI.

you just turned off the gpu firefox was using to render webpages.

    so yeah, that'll crash it.

It'd be like playing a game and swapping gpus mid game.

I just received my beats edition envy yesterday. As per the quick start guide I plugged it in to charge. I had it plugged in for 2 hours before I had to leave. I then unplugged it because I wasn't sure when I'd return. I plugged it back in after I got home, where it remained plugged in until this morning -- when I woke and see that the indicator was still blinking I unplugged it again because I thought that it should have been charged and didn't want to damage the battery. I then called HP and was told that the initial charge could take 24 hours -- so I plugged it back in -- it has yet to complete charging.

I say all that so I can ask this, How long did your initial charges take? Any suggestions?

    Thank you for your time.

I really didn't bother with the inital charge beyond the first couple hours.

IMO it didn't really matter (and for some reason I thought it blinking meant it WAS charged...then again maybe not. I never even notice the battery indicator)

You don't need to follow the initial charge, but disconnect the battery and then reconnect it. It should solve the blinking problem

I've been having an occasional audio issue with my E14; wonder if you guys can help me figure it out.

Occasionally, after the computer has had external speakers plugged in for a while, it tells me (in the Beats control panel) that the speakers are unplugged. It seems to be switching their focus to the "independent headphones" device, and I can get them to sound with the independent headphones "test speakers" button, but everything else runs its audio through the computer speakers.

So, you guys have any idea, short of restarting every time this happens, on how I can get the audio to play through the speakers. Unplugging them and plugging them back in, or switching jacks, doesn't seem to work, and incidentally, they're plugged into the front jack with the image of a pair of headphones, not the one with a headset.

just found this forum and thread and had a quick question.

i bought a beats edition envy 14 this past december with an i5 processor. recently, i've noticed that the screen is always on. i have my power settings on so that even when i close the laptop it won't go to sleep, hibernate, etc, but on all my other laptops the display will at least shut off when i close the lid. is there something wrong with this one?
