    no.

I mean "fix dumb issues that sometimes happen with keyboard lights"

that's all that does. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and instead you need to uninstall and reinstall the drivers for that thing (audio, wifi, whatever)

Oh. Cool. Ill do that in a few minutes then.

EDIT: That didn't work...damn. Anyone know what drivers control the mute light? :I

Which wireless adapter do you have? I would think if it's the Intel WiFi adapter, it would be something Intel in Msconfig. If you have the WWAN, whatever broadband wireless device they had that you could add on, then I believe you will have to update the BIOS in order to get it to work properly as that was a specific thing mentioned in the f.23 release notes.

lemme try that game out. It just may be super intensive if there's like fifty billion guys on the screen at once.

Thanks Magnus I tried that too but it still doesn't start on its own. The light on the keyboard is red on startup and I have to press Fn+F10 to enable it to white light..

The weird thing is, I have not yet updated any BIOS since day 1 and it used to work until a or two ago..

yeah. the thing gets weird sometimes.

the bios update may fix it. otherwise reinstalling drivers may fix it.

otherwise I dunno. this stuff is finicky and prone to random fits of "why are you messing up"

as for SC2 Mineralzsu/whatever. Yeah I get around 28 fps or something (go up to round 4) at one point my fps did do that drop to like 10 or so for a moment.

It's just the custom game. You need a stronger computer to run it fluently due to how much stuff is going on (tons and tons of zerg)

Just purchased an Envy 14 beats and I just noticed it says battery one 50% and battery 2 not present. If I remove the power cord it just shuts off. What do I need to do? I've tried reseating the battery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Zman thanks. Yup I have Intel Wifi adapter. In fact i just had an update from HP today on it but that still didn't seem to fix it. Hmm updating the BIOS may potentially (if not surely) break the recovery discs and for someone like me who is lazy to scan my files before opening them, that can be rather detrimental! lol.. Guess I'll try to wait a while and see if any updates come up. For now, I'll try to live with it! Thanks! :)

Hi, I've looked through the table of contents page and I can't find a solution, so I'm posting this here.

I have an HP Envy 14, i5 M450 CPU, 4 GB RAM, running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional. The first thing I did out of the box was a fresh reformat to get rid of all the HP junkware, and I've installed all the drivers as well as 3RVX.

The issue I'm having is that my sound is terribly loud when I plug in my headphones. It's so loud that I can only go about 5-10% using 3RVX until the sound's too loud. I'm using these earphones:

Amazon.com: Sony Mdr-E10Lp/Pblu Headphones - Fashion Earbuds (Blue): Electronics

I've tested this with other earphones as well, and it's the same.

That's probably because the output is supposed to be more powerful.

It might also be that you have some sort of EQ preset that makes things louder.

in general the headphone jacks are very very very strong.

depending on your pair of headphones you have to have the volume at from 5-15 or 20%

that's the beat's audio at work (well part of it anyway)

    YES!

HP finally fixed my laptop, the fan's working fine now.

HP ended up spending more money shipping the laptop twice than replacing the fan, though

edit: though, did you just clean install again/did they reinstall the OS? My computer has higher temps than normal for the first week or so due to hdd indexing and stuff.

then again I'm also not on an i7 so..*shrugs*

They just replaced the heatsink assembly. The CPU heatsink mount used to be painted over with black. Now it's shiny chrome

    enjoy your i5 heatsink assembly.

...nah they probably use the same one for both processors. Put new goop on it since they probably did a poor job

Hmm, the new heatsink is worse at keeping idle temps in the low 50's, but better at keeping gaming temps in the low 70's.

    Weird o.o

I have an i7-720qm envy and was hoping to downgrade to an i5 for longer battery life and less heat. i7 is overkill for my needs. Is this possible? They both use the same socket, so this should be possible...

You know, I'm actually not too sure.

My i7 motherboard is labeled as an "Arrandale" board. (BTW, arrandale's the i5. Clarksfield is the i7)

I would at least attempt it if whoever you're buying the CPU from accepts open box CPU returns (newegg does)

I can hardly play Metro 2033 and Cryostasis on Low... but I play those on my desktop.

My favorite games, Killing Floor and Left 4 Dead, run perfectly on it in medium.

    pretty much.

The sleeve has a spot above the computer that will fit a mouse and the AC Adapter (headphones..yeah no way in hell without bending them the wrong way/too much unless you have some behind ear sony headphones or something. The ones for jogging).

did you upgrade to the newer ATI drivers? I noticed going from stock 10.8 to 11.2 that my games would craw on the same settings that I was using with stock drivers.

Reverting back to the ones that came with my Envy 14 fixed the problem.. so weird

Ok so I'm having this problem with my GPU, i suppose. On battery, although I know it'll destroy it's life, gaming is slowed to a crawl. Even on high performance. On my friend's computer he can play games on battery without any lag as if he was connected to DC, but when i do it on my i7 envy 14, its jagged and lags like crazy. any help? is it drivers of the BIOS?
I have it on high performance, Power Play off, Active cooling, Fan always on in BIOS, but aero turned off from batterybar.

    huh.

I don't get that lag on my 5650. Or at least I don't when I tried it out with portal 2 yesterday for someone in the gaming topic.

'course I leave powerplay on (set on max performance)

I also made a note to go into the power options and turn off pci-express link state power savings while on battery along with moving cooling from passive to active.

I'm also in AMD 11.5 and BIOS F23

Hey, I'm trying to reinstall windows 7 on my envy14 and for some reason in the bios, there is an exclamation mark next to the option for booting from a usb drive. I have the windows installation thing installed on a usb drive and I've done it before (last summer when I first got my envy) but now for some reason I don't have that option. I placed the option for booting from a usb diskette (whatever that is) first and that also didn't work. could anyone advise me on what I should do? I'd really appreciate it- thanks

How did you create your USB Windows install?
Why don't you just use a Windows 7 DVD?
