@Llano Xfire: Whoa! That IS awesome, especially considering that most high-end computers these days tend to be GPU-bound during intensive tasking rather than CPU-bound.
-
I think HP wants to get rid of all the old i7 before releasing the new ones.
-
That is good news, hopefully and fingers crossed the specs are different and meet or get close to what most seem to want on here
-
Ya, but don't think it will if its coming out on Friday. The Llano HP line is coming out June 27 for the business models and sometime in July for the consumer line dv6....etc.
Just saw some videos in SB vs Llano..seems pretty amazing, the integrated GPU is pretty powerful. -
It has been on the Malaysian site for like a week now. As for 2001 that is probably the "silver/normal model' and the 2000 is the beats edition.
Lets hope it comes out first lol as it has been up on the Malaysian site only so that is not news ^_^ -
Definitely and to be honest I feel kind of bad for the suckers who are buying right now at 999. Hopefully they can clear stock and people can use the coupon for 25% off or whatever they have right now.
-
How much do you guys think the new SB envy 14 will be going for? (say a starting price)
-
Should be 999 as the ones they are selling now are definitely not worth 999.
-
ive waited more than 4 months for SNB and now i dont want to wait for Llano or anything else for another 4 months
maybe i must go for a vaio sb or sa or ca....
but i love envy .... -
Yes I know what you mean the envy looks great I was also waiting for the new Envy but if it fails on the specs im not in such a rush to replace my current laptop so I will wait for the llano in July on the dv6 maybe.
-
yes if i receive a press release saying that instead we have to wait for the AMD i will go with the DV6T quad. maxed out with a 33% voucher i can get for 1.7k, which is GREAT =D
(saves bout 868 ) -
On the Singapore side, HP is selling BEATS Edition ENVY 14-2006TX. The product specs seems to indicate that there is no eSATA port. 16GB RAM supported.
i7-2630QM
8GB RAM
750GB 7200RPM
1 USB3.0, 2 USB2.0
6630M 1GB DDR3
RED Backlit
Coolsense -
You took this completely out of context. Did you even READ the article on AnandTech? So far hybrid crossfire is a mess.
It is extremely buggy and it only works for dx10 and dx11 games otherwise it actually makes them run even worse.

It is already working well with many games, the next or second upcoming Catalayst will fix the problem completely and you can enjoy the Crossfire even under DirectX 9 games too.
-
Something is happening, thats for sure.. the price for the current-gen Envy 14 where I live, is over 200 USD lower today than it was yesterday. And since its not part of any sale, it indicates that a new version is just around the corner
I just feel sorry for those who buy the current-gen Envy now.. even though I get that the store/HP want to get rid of the old version. On one of the most reliable stores here, its possible to see approx. how many Envies they have left in stock, and several people have ordered after the price drop.. aw.
-
Where do you live that its dropped in price?
-
It's ok. Those people are either (a) clueless and will be happy with their high end computer for years to come; or (b) enthusiasts who feel as though they're picking up a great computer at a great price. Neither group needs your sympathy.
-

Those problems are easily fixed with better drivers, though. And as more games move away from DX9 and towards DX11, you will see it work better and better. The 3dMark11 score is indicative of the potential of hybrid crossfire -

It appears once they sell out their remaining Envys they'll switch over to the Sandy Bridge. Of course, I hate being behind Singapore.
-
The store I talked about is Komplett.com, a group of Scandinavian online stores. Don't get me wrong though, it still costs like 1700 USD or something, but a 200 USD price drop (when its not a sale) in one day still is significant, and this store always does that once they are expecting a newer model. And, like they always do, they'll keep dropping the price regularly now as the new model approaches. They are very reliable when it comes to things like this
Yeah, well, I guess my sympathy was for the first group, but maybe you're right. I just know I would have felt a little stupid if I bought the current gen now, only to find commercials for an improved version in a little while..

"Aakriti At Hp: I will post the day the upgrade is available...so if you can wait a couple weeks, you should be good to go. Just be sure to keep checking back to our page
"
per HP for Students - US facebook page in reference to SB update for Envy 14 -
Kind of ironic how the free xbox 360 deal is for students yet it ends in a couple weeks! I guess they just want people to buy the soon to be "old" ENVY 14s and are punishing those who want to wait it out.
-
I just chatted with yet another of the infinitely knowledgeable HP reps and she said that there were only "tentative release dates as of now" of June 26 for the regular envy 14 and July 7 for the beats edition.
I am not sure whether to believe this or whether I want to believe this. -
I see that pretty sad.
http://www.hp.com/united-states/personal_again/press/notebooks_pr.pdf
Link them there own press release lol.
Pretty pathetic screw up release date and possible the product to, oh well giving time for sony and LG to release better products. -
You sound so sure. Source?
Of course it will get better with drivers, but that doesn't mean that all issues can be solved on a software level. Also, games are highly unlikely to move away from dx9 until new consoles come out that can utilize the new API.
In either case, waiting for Trinity will undoubtably be the safer route. Plus I am not really excited about the architecture of these chips. Trinity will be utilizing Bulldozer-based cores and a Cayman-based GPU. Next year we'll have Southern Islands to pair it with. Also it will be awhile before there is a good selection of notebooks that utilize this platform, let alone "premium" offerings that everyone in this thread is interested in. IMO, wait for things to mature first and Trinity will likely offer what we're all hoping for. -
Agree 100% with you would not buy alano until trinity plus next refresh the gpu's will be insane aswell as the trinity cpu.
-
abaddon4180 Notebook Virtuoso
Trinity definitely looks promising but it is at least 8 months away, possibly a year. Waiting on tech that far away is a never-ending game because by the time it is out, Intel and AMD will have announced the next big step and then you will wait for that.
-
funny you should say that...
I just read this article the other day
Apple Provides Fans With Religious Experience, Brain Scans Reveal | News & Opinion | PCMag.com -
Except I'm not looking forward to Trinity because it's the next thing on the Horizon, I'm looking forward to it because this new AMD APU technology hopefully will have matured enough, still keeping an eye on Llano.
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
In the end, it's basically the same thing - you're keeping an eye on something that hasn't come out yet (on the horizon) because of the improvements it promises (the next big thing sic).
There's nothing inherently wrong with that. The only thing is that people will keep telling you that there will always be something better on the way because everyone likes dispensing sage advice. -
IVY BRIDGE anyone?
-
Well the bottom line is I like the idea of Llano but I'm not particularly thrilled by the old architectures it is based on. So it may perform as well in games as the current Envy 14, which is pretty impressive for a single chip, especially considering it will likely be an even cheaper solution. And with some tweaking of hybrid crossfire it may perform nearly as well as an m14x in some games which is even more impressive. But it's nothing revolutionary until we see some more improvements to make Llano the #1 mobile gaming platform to own on a budget.
But personally I won't actually NEED a new laptop until 2012 so it just makes sense for me to wait. You all can buy what you like, but don't go complaining when there are a lot of shortcomings when this thing first launches. Don't go ranting next year that you should have waited when Trinity+SI has a stronger launch and much more gaming performance than has ever been seen in a thin and light notebook, or that next year's "premium" notebooks are much better. These things are already very predictable given the information and trends you see before you. -
Now THAT seems really exciting to me, especially if I just decided to just go and buy myself a nice 15" gaming machine with powerful discrete graphics, or even if I wanted a macbook air competitor:
http://techreport.com/discussions.x/21025 -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
OH YEAH! still for widespread adoption of thunderbolt, that would make up for gaming needs, coupled with a quad for my VMs and coding needs!
thats why next year is when I buy a new laptop -
Yep if only I could wait that long need to get a laptop by august and do not feel like getting a crappy one while I wait.
Plus nvidia next gen graphics cards will be insane hopefully in the mobile space. Kepler 28nm 3-4 times performance of fermi based cards 2012 will be a good year. -
Where did you see this? I know about Kepler, but I've never read about them claiming to gain 3-4 times performance. They made claims about DP GFLOPS per Watt, but that's not the same thing as raw performance.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
not going to bet my money on it, and since AMD is doing the same die shrink, its a wait and see game. However I need linux, so, unless bumblebee starts to work properly, nvidia is out of the game.
more so that the idea to get thunderbolt is to get a desktop gpu in there, so that I have gaming, more proper gaming might I add -
So does anyone have an idea when we would be seeing the refresh on the machine, i have to pull the trigger soon and i really don't want to buy an envy14 today and hours later see an update
-
Buy something else. HP doesn't deserve your cash at this point. I recommend this one as it has similar specs and you could get the free xbox 360 right now before the deal runs out.
Samsung - Laptop / Intel® Core i7 Processor / 15.6" Display / 6GB Memory / 750GB Hard Drive - Black/Graphite - RC512-S02 -
Apart from the Samsung posted above, what other laptops can people recommend (similar size, power etc...) if the envy ends up sucking?
-
Auxilio_ab_alto Notebook Consultant
Most likely next week, they're probably just selling out their old inventory.
The Envy 14 was never a sure thing to release on the 15th. Their press releases said it was an expected release date. -
I am looking at Alienware M14x, Clevo P151HM (Sager NP8130), or the Envy14 Beats...
-
abaddon4180 Notebook Virtuoso
I wouldn't consider that a very good competitor. It has the same resolution on a 15.6'' screen, which is going to look much worse, the same graphics power and much worse battery life for $100 more than the base Envy. Not to mention the Envy is one of the sexiest notebooks on the market, that Samsung is meh at best -
i need a macbook quality notebok that run windows...
seems that its very hard these days to find one...
only if the pavillion had a better battery life... -
I agree, I really don't understand how it can be so difficult to produce a laptop that is less than 1 inch thick and as powerful as a macbook pro. It's not like Apple have snapped up all the engineers capable of producing a laptop of this type and standard. The xps15z is the closest I can find to a macbook pro, but aside from the poor graphics cards and lack of a quad core i7, the build quality appears to be rubbish. Just reading the reviews of the 15z on the dell website makes me very uneasy, and the screen doesnt appear all that good despite having a very high pixel count.
I thought I would never get an apple computer (I will never run apple OS) but now I'd buy one in a heartbeat if it weren't for some missing bootcamp drivers and the massive price tag. -
abaddon4180 Notebook Virtuoso
Other companies could build MBP like laptops with similar battery life and size but to do so would require more time and effort from engineers and builders and higher quality parts, which would drive the price up to MBP levels
-
but thats the thing. there are people that wouldnt care if the price went to those levels. thats what they want.
after the last 2 months of going nuts comparing specs on dells and hps and samsungs and whatever elses ive decided the MBP absolutely is worth it and not overpriced at all, and as has been said ad nauseam, if bootcamp allowed switchable graphics under win7 i'd splash out ~2100 in cash for the higher res matt screen MBP 15 in the next minute. -
I was just giving a suggestion for something else to buy, of course envy fanboys will find fault with everything else out there.
As it stands, without the refresh that is a much better deal, but whatever.
