    Great news !

Yep the 6770 is easily 40-60% better.

Solo beats one's are pretty bad lol, studio or the earphone ones be good otherwise I would rather the overall price be cheaper.

Hi guys, I just joined this forum. Really good info here.

I was about to buy the hp envy 14-1260SE beats edition for $850, but then I found out newegg isn't doing the free xbox 360 promo. Luckily I did a little more research and thanks to you guys, found out the 14-2050se is coming out.

I know from reading a bunch of threads that it won't be coming out on June 26, but do you guys know if it will come out soon after. And will the price be $1050 like amazon is displaying right now? I really don't want to wait to long, and need it before school starts in September. Thanks!

Well, the HP rep on facebook said june 26 for regular envy earlier today, and now he mentioned july 7th for the beats version.. so its getting close, yay :D

Yeah, I was the guy that got annoyed and ask them which day the Beats edition would be out. Nice of him to respond to me, I honestly expected them to ignore it.

If you're a student, you can get significant discounts, like $100 off. Plus you get a free Xbox 360. This assumes you're ordering through HP by calling their student number.

    That's great!

I was debating to get from amazon or through hp. I will save tax and shipping from amazon and still get a free xbox 360, but no student discount. I think the tax alone will be more than $100 so amazon will be the better option.

Aren't people waiting for hp.com to sell them so they can apply the coupon? Or will the $100/$200 coupon be offset by the tax? Also, does buying it from amazon count towards the free xbox 360?

Yes the Xbox deal is available through Amazon

I would expect HP won't release them on their site until their coupon code expires.

I'm not a gamer so the base processor was fine for me. I was just waiting for the Base model of the sandy bridge refresh to become available, which is exactly what is available on Amazon right now. That and the base level beats edition.

Ya, which is the lowest or one of the lowest SB i5s.

Quoted the wrong person. But man this is a disappointment, I thought they would have incorporated some sort of upgrade in the US version. Guess now?

Although I realize many readers of this forum would rather wait to be able to customize to a higher processor

If you configure the envy to have an i7 processor (when it gets released on hp.com), will it still be switchable graphics or no? I want the battery life to still be decent.

All mobile SB chips have integrated graphics, so it'll be switchable

On the other hand, 95% of games will be GPU-bottlenecked anyway, so unless you're planning on doing video editing or other CPU intensive tasks, this one should be fine for most users.

Just bought my Beats edition off Amazon. Did the one day shipping so it should be here Friday. Their specs are still screwed up on the site. I'm a bit nervous about what I'm gonna get but I could always return and order from HP on the 26th if I need to. I didn't get HP's student discount, but didn't have to pay tax either...

They do if you lie about why you return it. But if say they were to ship me a previous generation Envy 14 when it was advertised as the newer model, they shouldn't charge me.

i ordered it :D i realized i not only could not wait until june 26th, but also, i wouldnt have been able to wait the time it would have taken HP to custom build me an envy with a better processor than the i5 2410. on the site now, if you try customizing your order, it says that the estimated build date is july 11 :\

i'm cross shopping Envy 14 with Dell XPS 15. i only wish Envy 14 would have an option for Blu-Ray drive, so far it's a deal breaker for me. i still haven't decided whether to go with XPS's features and bulky looks or Envy 14's look, built quality but lack of some features.

oh and a perk about amazon: if your an amazon student, not only do you get the free xbox 360, but you also get $3.99 one day shipping on everything. i ordered the new envy 14 and a $20 case to get to my house tomorrow, and i only paid $7.38 s&h :)

Seeing as the envy14 is a bit of a disappointment (at least IMO), what do people think? Get the Evny14 or the dell 15z(with the i7,1080p panel and 2gb GT525M)?

Also how does the 6630m compare with 2gb GT525m in terms of gaming performance?

15z build quality sucks. Lots of people are having issues with chrome trim breaking, LCD screen getting unglued and scuff mark on the aluminum...I would stay away.

I have read the reviews on the dell website and am aware of some of these issues but ignoring build quality, in terms of sheer performance, which is better the envy14 or 15z?

Whilst reading another thread on notbook review someone said they were overclocking the gt525 to gt540 speeds using EVGA prescision without any heat problems. If that's the case then why wouldnt they just stick a 540 in there?

Amazon student benefits of buying Envy 14:
    Available now
Free 2 day shipping, $3.99 one day shipping
will give you credit for buying the xbox 360
don't have to pay tax (probably $80-$100)

HP benefits of buying Envy 14
    student discount
    free xbox 360
    free ground shipping
will have more models and customization (on June 26th)

So it appears Amazon Student wins about a hair. Just make sure you have an Amazon Student account. It's Amazon Prime, but free when you're a student. And it rocks, I buy so much off Amazon since the shipping on almost everything is free for 2 day or $3.99 for one day.

The student discount is a flat 10% from HP though so it will be at least $100 for the base priced envy. When I built an old gen envy yesterday I believe the taxes were between $50-$60. You can still get free 5-7 day shipping through HP so shipping costs aren't that big of a deal considering I have never had 5-7 day shipping take more than 3 days. On top of the student discount you will also get the free xbox assuming they do not release it past the promotion date which all signs are pointing towards that not being the case. If you think about it, you can get the base envy with the i5 and 6gb of ram for $899 + 50-60 for taxes and get a free xbox with it.

The whole thing will be less than $1000. That is my plan at least. The taxes suck compared to Amazon but you can customize it and save even more which is definitely a positive. Both are great deals on a great laptop though. It might not be perfect but I really don't think you will be able to beat it for the price.

Pretty sure manufacture's warranty is the same regardless of where you buy so long as its an authorized dealer. Return policy differences would be more of a concern when deciding whether to buy through HP or Amazon.

Amazon would give you hp standard 1 year warranty or whatever that you get when you buy any notebook plus like the amazon 30 or whatever warranty.

If you want to "customize" your laptop for a better proccesor/screen/gpu/ram etc. although gpu and screen im dreaming about most likely wont happen and you got the time to wait, then wait for HP to release.

Otherwiseand if you cannot wait then get it off amazon as its a great deal if you got a amazon student account as you don't have to pay tax and 2 day shipping is free and you get a free xbox 360.

Thanks everyone for all the info they have posted--it has been very helpful. Am I the only one that is colossally disappointed with the specs I am seeing? I have waited all this time only to see an ordinary screen and a video card that offers no real bump in performance. Aside from the Sandy Bridge chip, this "update" is actually a step DOWN compared to the initial Envy 14, correcting for time. Am I missing something here? What is the impetus to get this laptop with a 6630M GPU and mediocre screen? Is there any chance these will be upgrade options? I really wanted this laptop, but with these specs I am thinking more and more about the MBP...

I'm in the same mind thought too. You'd think with Cool Sense or whatever they'd be able to put a better GPU in. I'm just buying an older i5 for the battery life and putting a radiance on it to hold me over until the next release. My radiance screen came in today!!

The other reasons to buy it would be the touchpad, CoolSense 2.0, awesome looks, and red backlight. Yeah the GPU and screen are disappointing but there are other reasons than that to consider it. It's not for everyone, but for some of us there's enough reasons to like it.
