Same. I'll buy the base model SB Envy now and just wait for the next big thing a few years.

that indeed looks like it. Im doing the I told you so dance right now, its going to be 6630m.

There was no way that a more powerful card would be put there, since the 6630m is the direct replacement of the underclocked 5650m that was in the envy 14

Yeah, no, that information was for the Beats edition, which never had radiance in the first place (?), so I guess for those of us who want the regular Envy, that question is still not answered.. *sighs* :)

Definitely disappointed in you, HP. First not giving us a 6750 in the dv4t and now putting a 6630 in the Envy 14.

Just curious, how does the 6630 compare to the nvida 525m in the Dell 15z? I'm contemplating switch to that right now... I know it's dell, but i'll take my chances.

Well, there's still hope for the screen, no? This is a preconfigured model (considering the i7 processor), so there might be other options, right? And please don't tell me that the base model has an i7 and there's no choice for i5s. =_=

Ya this, I was hopeful but I think we all knew HP was ganna screw this one up. And especially with a totally new redone Envy they really could not stick anything better in.

The specs I linked to was for the Beats Edition.. it has never had a better screen like Radiance, anyway, so the lack of Radiance there was no surprise anyhow. And the Beats Edition basically came in one version (atleast in my country), with i7. The regular Envy have more options.. and the hopes for a better screen, if there are any hopes left, is in the regular model

The 6630 isnt bad but it hardly an improvement over the 5650.

So now the m14x is officially the most powerful sub 15" laptop. Too bad its look doesnt appeal to a lot of people (me included).

Yeah.. the m14x might be the most powerful 14"... but it is also ugly enough for it to almost be hilarious. :p I think few people would consider both the m14x and the Envy 14, one is a beast and the other is a beauty. My choice is on the beauty, even though it might be somewhat less powerful than the beast. The Envy is still a great laptop, and that is without looking like a spaceship toy from the early 2000s.

Got me so excited, no I am sad and want to kill you.

Yep you got it spot on, it is powerful but ugly and nerdy/unprofessional looking.

Although with 6630 and no high res display I will not be getting the envy so lets hope they got 1 of the 2 right at the very least.

That Malaysian Beats version seems to be a tabletop edition for sales at stores, and is not representative of the custom configs we normally see on HP's US website.

But assuming that the 6630M is going to be the only graphics card, its benchmarks are basically identical to the Nvidia 525M in the XPS 15z. Except the XPS has a nicer screen... but, again, we don't know for sure until the US website is updated.

If this is the final config, I'm either going to buy an XPS 15z or a refurbished MacBook Pro 15.

Yea but the the problem is I can't get the dv6tqe in the country I am in so I would have to import it from the US and then HP won't ship internationally.

Its ok I will turn my attention to the new Sony Z hope they dont screw it up like HP have :)

That type of design is a thing of the past. More and more will be thinner and lighter. Especially after Ivy Bridge is introduced next year. They can appeal to a much broader audience, including females with a nice design and increased portability.

I'm just saving for the new sony z. Hp generated a lot of interest with the original radiance, and promptly lost it all. Even the new elitebooks fail at this size.

I was planning an upgrade if the graphics card is at least a 6750. The 14x don't appeal to me but I can live with it vs an Envy with crap screen and gpu and I do think the 14x is hideous but I need a backlit keyboard.

I have the 15" MBP 1680x1050 HD Matte, i7-2820, 8Gig 1600Mhz ran, ATI-6750m running windows. It's fast but. $3k usd when all was said and done.

The envy was just a smarter buy at the time. I was really hoping for a refresh that would bridge the gap and pull a lot of people from the mbp camp.

Ah well. guess I'll be luking different forums and "Customize"ing other models in my hunt for the perfect laptop.

@m14x. It's not professional looking, as stated before, and honestly the stock 555m is on par with the 6750m found in the MBP due to the gddr3 found in it. (This can be changed by overclocking).

XPS 15z is nice, but just can't play games as well as I want either.

Well, enough of my rant, Cya all later!

It's been said a thousand times but man HP really screwed up on this Envy 14 refresh. They had a radiance supplier at one time, and is it really that hard to line up another, considering they are HP? Also refreshing with 6630M graphics (which is likely to happen) for a laptop of it's size is a mistake, and consumers will realize that.

I think the new Web OS will be cool, but that doesn't mean HP should drop everything else to launch a mobile OS in an already crowded market. When I think of HP, I imagine computers first, so HP if you are reading this, here is my suggestion. Make a great consumer laptop, don't halve it, and sit back while sales records are set. I know running a successful business is complicated, but in the long run, is it really?

Assuming that your computing needs now can be met with what you have now, then absolutely I would wait. I'd expect Ivy bridge laptops to be available before fall semester 2012. Whether Ivy bridge appears in a 14" HP laptop is anyones guess! But Ivy bridge will bring a performance increase, heat improvements, and maybe even DX11 support on chip

How about this? I'm an incoming freshman who just recently purchased the HP Dv6t quad editon, with a 2GB 6770 graphics card, 8 GB of Ram, blu-ray player, 1080p anti-glare with a 30% coupon, so the price I got all this for is nothing short of amazing. Would it be worth returning it, buying a cheap laptop for this year, and buying an Ivy Bridge later.

I know technology gets better every year, at a faster rate, but you guys are making it seem like Ivy Bridge is this huge jump.

the jump from Sandy Bridge to Ivy bridge is expected to be big, yes. bigger than the jump we just made to Sandy bridge.

I can't answer your question directly, but consider that you got an amazing deal on a great laptop, which you might as well enjoy for what it is. Returning your dv6t now and buying a "lesser" laptop might not net you the savings you need to purchase an Ivy7 bridge next year. In fact, you might not want the first Ivy bridge off the line anyway -- your DV6 gives you the capability to time your Ivy bridge purchase, waiting for even the 2nd gen Ivy bridge in 2013.

    Keep it.
Ivy bridge is just another tik, in intel's line none the less it will be better than SB though but that is no reason to return your laptop just with any next gen proccesor it is better.

I disagree. The update is exactly what was expected.

As far as the Radiance, from what I understand there are huge shortages of LCD panels in certain sizes and only a few companies that make them (ie Samsung and LG). So it's understandable if they couldn't get the proper panel. And I'm perfectly content with the resolution and brightness.

A laptop is about more than just one or two components. It's the sum of the parts, the look, the experience, and the support. So it might be a little lacking in GPU and display, but I feel it's more than made up for in the other areas.

Anyone know what the battery life difference between the i5 and i7s will be? Tried searching for any threads on SB battery life difference in the dv6, couldn't find anything.
