Hey guys, loving my envy but i got two questions.
1. after reinstalling a fresh copy of windows 7 how do i know when beats in on or off? i kinda dont hear the difference but im curious if theres any way to know it actually is switching.
2. How do i manage the 2 gpu card switching settings?
3. My screen sometimes comes up black after it comes out of sleep. How do i fix this issue, its kind of annoying. i think im on bios f13? or something along that name, i forgot the version number.
EDIT: thats actually three questions xD I blame it on my vape
-
1. Beats is the red icon in the task tray. I think it is on all the time if you have the driver installed, you may need to install the HP tone control from your SwSetup folder. You can play with the EQ or use the Beats Tour preset.
2. Right click your desktop select configure switchable graphics and then choose the graphics card when the window comes up to switch cards. (You have to have all applications closed to switch.)
3. I don't know, maybe update the graphics drivers. Other users in the forum have reported this, but I have not experienced it. -
I've seen some discussions about the keyboard, and I have great news, it's now available in lots of languages, through Europarts.
The serial number of the service manual is wrong, the right one is 612058-0XX where XX is the "number" of your country. Have a look there : EUROPARTS.
I've bought my AZERTY keyboard there and it fits exactly like the original one (which was a German QWERTZ keyboard), and better: the whole keyboard flex issue is now gone !!!
You just have to be EXTRA carefull when you open up your computer, and then it's just fine.
edit : I think this has to go first page, I've been struggling a lot to find this reference. -
Those are all very good questions which no one hear can answer for certain. You need to ask HP directly and, if it were me, I would ask them to confirm their answers via email BEFORE you send it to them.

3. my graphics drivers are all up to date. Right now i was just on my envy 14 and the screeen just shut down, it sort of randomly went into sleepmode. :0 hopefully i dont have to send it back because of this. -
hi guys,
i just got a hp envy beats, however i realised that the screen is just abit off the top, its like a small part of my screen got cut off. desktop monitor i can set the vertical scrolling right, this is like i set the vertical scrolling abit off the top. how do i set it right in laptop?
another thing is when i open the box, i found that the chrome part have a coat of grease, is that grease suppose to keep the chrome part from rusting??? -
When the screen doesn't come on when coming out of sleep, some users have reshut and reopened the lid and gotten it to come back on. I agree, hopefully you don't have to return it.
-
Not sure about that. Are you saying your screen is off centered? If it's off centered you're going to have to send it back for a replacement/fix or fix it yourself.
Not sure what chrome part you are talking about, but some users have reported some kind of yellow stuff that can be removed by scraping it off. -
omg r u serious!? damn.. wondering should i spend my time to go down the service centre.. although its just a very small portion.. ARGHHHHH
the SD/MMC card slot, the usb, rj45 port the whole chrome part.
mine is the hp envy beats... maybe its diff? -
Nah, you mean the edge of the laptop, no it's not supposed to have grease on it. They must have over applied something or gotten it on there by accident. If it will wipe off you can just wipe it off, hopefully it will wipe off.
Have you tried playing with the resolutions on the screen? It could just be the resolution the screen is at, but it sounds like it's off centered if that doesn't fix it. Other users have had the off centered screen too... -

Hmm do you think these issues can be resolved with driver updates or is it an actual physical hardware issue?
Lately i haventg been able to reproduce these issues anymore, but mainly cause i havent really been putting it into sleep, but my problems seem to be
1. laptop randomly gos into sleep mode (screen goes black and wont turn on until i hit the power button once)
2.laptop doesnt awake from sleep mode, screen stays black until i close and open the laptop again. One time i had to restart the whole thing to get the screen to start up.
Im hoping these are driver issues that are resolved quick. -
What processor do you have in the computer? i7's have had sleep issues, but if it is an i5/i3 then I don't know, could be a hardware issue, it could also be a program issue. You could try running powercfg -energy from an administrative command prompt to see if anything could be causing problems. It will give you a report of power problems and may help figuring out the problem. There have been reports of sleep issues with all sorts of computers on the internet, desktops and laptops. I would be extensive with my testing before sending it in to HP, they seem to have a bad track record in repairing computers. You may want to check and disable hybrid sleep if it is enabled in advanced power options, it's a long shot, but it has been known to cause issues too.

I have to add myself to the list of happy-but-not-completely-happy Envy 14 owners, as my "o" key is slightly dysfunctional. It works the same as every other key if I tap it dead centre. If however I tap it off centre, it doesn't register a keystroke. Odd. There's no problem with any other key.
Anyway, the Envy is only a week or two old, I am wondering if anyone can point me to the HP warranty procedure here in Australia? I have bad memories of trying to get warranty help so I am hoping this one might be more painless.
It's a bit disappointing how many people are having build quality issues isn't it?
Anyway, otherwise good. I chose it for the screen and that is pretty much what I hoped it would be.
Jason -
Yes, it is disappointing that these companies don't take any more pride in their products than this. Build issues, software issues, BIOS and recovery disc issues. There should be very few issues with the computers. The corporate structure is really starting to take it's toll on the quality of the products I am afraid. Not really sure how difficult or easy warranty service is in Australia. Maybe you should contact the Australia tech support, they should have information about getting warranty service.

I also had a keyboard issue, my r and t keys were discolored. I also had an issue with "grease" on the seam between the touchpad and the edge, I thought it was a larger seam in one area than the rest, but I proceeded to scratch at the black area and it came off, so it was just some sort of grease. But I also had an issue with one corner having a small imperfection, if you were to run your hand down the left edge, you could get cut from the small raised metal imperfection.
After 4 rma's I've just given up on HP, sent back the envy and went and bought a macbook pro. I got so used to the solid quality of the envys that I went to look at other PCs and nothing compared, so I am biting the bullet to learn a new O/S altogether. Thank You HP! -

I had the grease thing on the side of my envy 14, but it just scratched right off. (im assuming your talking about this black guck that was stuck on the side of my laptop, it wasnt much though.)
I also havea small imperfection on the hinge, it seems that some of the paint rubbed off, but i can only see it at a certain angle, im not too worried about it.
I have a i3 in my envy. :/ I am REALLY hoping its not a hardware issue, i reallyu dont wanna mail it in. Ill try some of your suggestions next time it happens. I need to see how many times this issue is repeatable and when. -
OSX isn't very hard to learn, plus it's a lot more snappy than Win7 in my opinion. Which Macbook Pro did you get?
-
Considering the HUGE price difference, I bought the 13.3" 2.4 Ghz 320 GB HD MBP. The specs don't even come close to the Envy (5400 rpm vs 7200 rpm, 256 MB Graphics vs 1 GB switchable, Core 2 Duo vs, i5), but the battery life should be about double the Envy!
-
ya tried with other reso, still the same.
so only solution is service center? -
I'm running the recovery cd's on a new harddrive.
The cd's them selves copied over perfectly, however after I removed disk #2 it does a load up thing where it says "facroty image recovery preparations and it is stuck on "12%" anyone know what thats all about? It's been about 30 minutes now and it's still on 12% and it says "please wait".
I'm confused, has anyone done this? -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Posted this a day or two ago in Paradise Lost, but no dice there yet, so I'm copying it over here:
I've got issues with sound diverting from the audio port to the speakers. The biggest culprits I've found have been IM clients - Skype's chat, Google Talk, QQ... When I get a message in those clients, the sound diverts to the Envy speakers to alert me, whether I'm watching a movie on VLC, playing a game, listening to music via Media Player, or whatever else. Is there any way to tell the IDT drivers to ball up and send all the audio to the audio jack, or am I going to be dealing with this until I buy a new computer?
Actually, this is at its worst when I play Burnout: Paradise - EA makes me log into their servers before I can get into the game proper (even though I only play offline), and the moment it logs in, the sound gets stuck on the internal speakers, even though it plays through the audio jack until it logs in. That's probably a game-specific fix, but it might bear mentioning anyway. -
Afraid so, unless you can take apart the display yourself to realign the screen. Some steps before sending it in would be to take pictures of the computer before you send it (particularly the off centered display), and get HP to send an email saying who is responsible if it gets broken or messed up during the repair. Hopefully they will be able to fix it without problem, but it never hurts to have a backup plan if things do go sour.

User manual download link is down, Can anyone re-upload?
-
so....what's the scoop on the new bios? should i try to update?
and is there true fix or another psuedo fix for the cpu whine? i'm sorta getting tired of running the command prompt with the "hoooaaahhh" thing. i keep leaving it on when it's on battery, making it die in about two hours. -
I updated, and everything seems exactly the same.
I'm using the microphone fix, where you turn on the listen function for one of your mics and then mute it. It works, to a certain extent. I still get the whine sometimes. Not sure what the impact on my battery life is, I get 2 hours normal usage on an i7, which seems in line with other people. -
thanks for the advices... guess have to spend sometime going down damn..
anyway i realise theres a sim card slot when i remove the batt, can i insert my 3g sim card so i can use wireless without the need of my dongle -
its just the sim reader . you can see a vacant min pci-e slot under the harddisk
-
so can i use the sim reader as the 3g connection? (dunno the exact name)
-
not unless you install a 3g mobile broadband card . it may or may not work . i have asked this a no. of times ...may be you a bios upgrade is required
-
ohhh so i can say that the sim slot is kinda useless in the 3g sense?
-
Try my SSD tweaks from this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...-intel-series-4-5-965-chipsets-jjb-tweak.html
It has been reported to eliminate CPU whine in most cases or at least reduce the volume significantly, all with no impact on battery life or performance.
Edit: Has been used with success on HDD systems and in some cases even improved HDD R/W speeds. To date no negative reports on these tweaks (with HDD's) have been reported... -
For me, JJB's tweaks toned it down a few notches. It's not gone, but it's tolerable.
-
IS THE CPU WHINE AUDIBLE WHEN U PLACE YOUR EARS NEAR dg KEYS
-
Upgrading to the new BIOS (from F.03 I think) has made my system fans cycle on and off a lot more than they previously did, even when I'm just surfing the web or doing other non-CPU/GPU intense tasks. It's very annoying. I wish that they would just stay on at a constant speed.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
leave the fan to always on valismp?
I've never had it do the cycle on-off forever thing ('course I never turned fan always on off so..yeah) -
Envy 14 is now claiming 6 hour battery life, did they change the battery?
-
No I think not, but the 3.75 hours they stated before was to low.
These battery life numbers are usually determined by just letting the laptop idle with everything turned of, that's how most manufacturers do it.
The 3.75 hours of battery life that was stated before can easily be achieved with some use, browsing etc. I still get 4 - 4,5 hours out of it with some constant light use (IM, browsing, mail, Youtube). Therefore I think 5 -6 hours should be able with wifi of, aero glass of and just letting it idle and the 6 hours they stated is very reasonable for a manufacturer. -
Hello everyone,
I seem to be having some strange problems with my touchpad.
Twice now, just out of the blue, scrolling has stopped working, Three-Finger Flick has stopped working, all of my Envy's fans have seemed to start going full-throttle all at once, and when I tried, I have been unable to open the "Mouse" settings.
The first time this happened I think that I just waited and eventually the fans calmed down, the "Mouse" settings window finally opened, and the functionality returned, except that my settings were no longer what I had set them on. They had all returned to default.
I just got done experiencing the second iteration of this phenomenon and this time I think I may have made some deductions (albeit bizarre if accurate). I was fed up with waiting for whatever the issue was to resolve itself and was in the process of preparing to shutdown when something unexpected happened: Immediately after I closed Internet Explorer the fans stopped blazing, the "Mouse" settings window popped up, and all of the functionality was back to how I had set it. Coincidence?
I tried to do a search for posts about similar strangeness but came up empty. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
For what its worth I am using the latest Synaptics drivers (15.0.24.0) on a clean version of Windows 7 and have experienced no other weird issues whatsoever.
As an added peculiarity I think that both times this happened it may have been during the same time of day and I may have been searching for a decent 1600x900 wallpaper image.
Sorry for all of the weird speculation. I would be very surprised if anything (but perhaps the IE connection) was related! -
i am not able to install the display drivers after following the instructions on the main page . minimized recovery and full recovery has also stopped working

Woohoo, got my Envy 14 and been using it for a week now. No fan cycling problem. Fan is slightly louder on dedicated card but then for normal usage I put it on integrated and the laptop is very very quiet. There's a slight sound of air rushing out but that's about it.
No CPU whine either but this touch pad is horrible! any suggestions? -
I'm using that, and it has doubled my 4k r/w speeds on my SSD. However it seems to have worsened the whine. Strange. I get the whine when my cpu is under full load as well, I have no idea what's going on.
-
i have this weird thing happen to my envy, when i let it sleep all night, and go to start it up in the morning, it will look like its loading...after the "restarting windows" screen, it goes black and just hangs.
anybody else have this problem? -
get a wireless mouse
-
i am having problems with ATI driver .whenever i restart on intel integrated i get no display on the next reboot . i have to disable it using safe mode to get the graphics again
-
That happens to me sometimes. In my case, closing the lid to go into sleep mode, then re-opening it gives me the screen back. I'm not even running the ATI graphics most of the time. I've set it to run the Intel graphics all the time and turned off the switching, so I think the problem is actually with the Intel driver not the ATI driver.
-
is the beats.exe thing supposed to consume 25% of my cpu and cause really loud fan noise?
-
There's a lot of useful info and hints to improve the trackpad usability in the E14 Trackpad thread
*** NOTE TO MODERATORS *** It would be helpful if we could have a link to the E14 : Trackpad Discussion Only thread in the ANCILLARY ENVY 14 THREADS section *** -
Does anyone know where the HP sata drivers are? I think mine are corrupted or something so i'll need to reinstall. I'm also using an SSD if that matters. It should be in Swsetup right?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
the sata drivers are the intel rapid storage stuff.
it's in the misc1-misc4 drivers I think.
